WASHINGTON (CNN) - Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said Tuesday he has spoken with Rush Limbaugh about his comments regarding the conservative radio talk show host.

"We had a nice conversation last night," Steele said in a statement sent to CNN. "We are all good."

RNC officials described the call as private and did not elaborate on the details of the conversation between the two men.

Michael Steele is pitiful... ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!! Did someone threaten to remove him from the chairmanship if he DIDN'T apologize?

Bosco   March 3rd, 2009 3:43 pm ET

"We had a nice conversation last night," Steele said in a statement sent to CNN. "We are all good."

Then Michael "Token" Steele performed his best "step-n-fetch it" routine. Just WHO is running this Dog and Pony show?

What ARE they afraid of?

America will never be as intelligent as their asian counterparts that is proof seen with W the messiah's 2 terms. For people who still use socialism as a scare tactic against our biracial prez, you people are uneducated and close-minded, we know you do not approve of his biracial background and his muslim name so you fabricate stories about Obama being socialist. Socialism is nothing like what you people think. I guess those who cry "socialism" are really rich or really stupid or really racist.

LImbaugh and his supporters, GOP party want a theocracy headed by white christian conservs. So stop calling Obama a socialist he is not the one who started social security or made sure your local taxes go to elementary schools when I dont even have a child yet.

Theocracy all the way, we are becoming IRAN

This is GREAT!! I hope they keep it up and show just how out of touch the Republican party really is. I REALLY hope that the Republican party ticket for 2012 is Limbaugh/Palin. A dream come true . . .

karen   March 3rd, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Look, you liberal ignoramouses and moderates(one and the same), Rush is a conservative. Conservatives stand for certain principles. The conservatives are sick and tired of the RINOS in the party who do not represent us. If a so-called "moderate"(again Democrat) wants to join our party and our beliefs, fine, but we are not going to change what we believe to accomodate you. None of you even know enough about Limbaugh to even discuss him because you don't listen to him, and what you say about him shows your ignorance. The White House is going after Rush because they fear him, but Obama is out of his league taking on Rush. Rush is not an entertainer – he is entertaining as he takes on liberals and exposes them for the destructive lamebrains they are.

Grimm   March 3rd, 2009 2:28 pm ET

I don't think that what GOP Chairman Steele said about Rush Limbaugh was an insult. It was the truth. Some people, I'm among them, feel that Rush Limbaugh is an incendiary media persona. Last I checked, the leader of the GOP was ELECTED to said position. Again, GOP Chairman Steele was simply being truthful when he stated that he, not Rush Limbaugh, is the leader of the GOP. I am disappointed that GOP Chairman Steele opted to bow down to Rush Limbaugh instead of stand his ground. I find it hard to believe that the GOP faithful would sooner rally around a radio talk show host instead of one of their ELECTED party leaders. But then I'm not a Republican so maybe it's just not for me to understand.

Maggie from Virginia   March 3rd, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Nothing surprises me about the GOP anymore. This is the same party that sought political advice from Joe the Plumber. What a freaking joke they have become.

tom epstein   March 3rd, 2009 2:26 pm ET

let's see eric cantor disagrees with rush and rush has nothing to say, then the token party leader disagrees with rush and he openly calls the guy out. then steele gives an aplology to rush. more evidence steele is a token there was obviously behind the scene pressure for steele to not fight rush publicly.

Rush Libaugh's recent convention conduct, and tactics intimidating Michael Steele, are very similiar to Senator Joe McCarthy's methods in threathening to label anyone opposing him a communist. How is McCarthy remembered today?

Matty:
"Guess those of you who mention Rush's drug use have selective memories about our current president."

Not at all; the issue isn't the drug use by the self-appointed GOP leader, but rather his hypocracy concerning how drug users and addicts don't deserve second chances and should be punished with the full extent of the law but then wanting all of his sycophant followers to overlook his addiction and utter lack of punishment.

He could have vanished after getting busted; he didn't.

He could have recanted his claims, even becoming an icon of recovery; he didn't.

He just produced a pathetic excuse, much like Haggard, Craig, Swaggart, and every other "family values" mouthpiece caught with his pants down, and went right on spewing the hate and ignorance he's built his career on.

Richard, OH   March 3rd, 2009 1:52 pm ET

Rush is a boob. I think the dems have the perfect strategy here: paint Rush as the leader of the new boob party.

If the media says Rush is bad he must be bad. I never heard him myself but I heard he is bad. He is against illegal immigration and affirmative action so he must be racist. He is a pro-life guy so he must be a kook. I like choices and porn and drugs and Hollywood and adultery and gay-lesbian-bisexual-transsexual rights and atheism and socialism and abortion and free love and a welfare state and big central government and at least us Dems are willing to fight for your choices!!! (Unless you choose life or religion or capitalism or hard work)

oh...white man whipped the black boy in place...Steele honey you are up there for show...soon you will learn they are using you all the way. While the GOP hides behind their racist, bigot, lying, stealing and criminal behavior they place a black man to take the blame. You did not learn from Colin Powell. You deserve what you are going to get from the GOP....the south was Democrat until LBJ ran on civil rights and giving black people rights to vote and the south automatically became republican in support of white supremacy. Know your history. GOP = KKK white supremacy.

Paul H   March 3rd, 2009 1:13 pm ET

Rush Limbaugh is not Republican per say. He stands for conservatism.
He railed against the Bush administration when they started spending money like the Democrats. He also had a lot of issues with John McCain.
If there was an independent that had Conservative values he would prop that person up, or simply a Conservative movement of some sort Rush would be all over it.
These things are known by media, but they prefer to slant the headlines, to show turmoil inside the Republican party.
Conservatives stand out, even away from the Republican party, but Liberalism, and Socialism does not stand out from whats taking place in the white house right now.

abc   March 3rd, 2009 1:12 pm ET

wow... and WOW! i thought the GOP was focusing on winning the indepedents/moderates like myself for the coming years. stand for what you speak or don't speak at all. that's right, TAX CUT! the only words GOP leaders can use.
and i want to say it again, Limbaugh has not lived a conservative life but a lavish, substance dependent life, yes. so it's ok for this mouth piece to have train wreck and still be worship as a holy conservative figure?
i personally feel, the more weak GOP becomes the stronger and welcome Limbaugh will be. the last president he endorse as "small government" wire tapped people PRIVATE conversation, killed innocents (not the terrorists) and had his own Petroleum stimulus. and this is call liberty? it's conservative? no, it's fascism, dictatorship with a tad of republic-communist and racist! my conservative doesn't include all these inhumane practices.

Republican or Democrat. It is absolutely pathetic that the head of the RNC is groveling to Limbaugh. This is a joke!! The guys an uneducated, ignorant talking head and the Republicans hang on his every word! Limbaugh is destroying the Republican Party! Moderate Republicans are turned off by Limbaughs extremities! This is why Obama has such overwhelming approval ratings. The only way your little Conservative party is ever going to succeed is to steer clear of this kook Limbaugh.

Frank   March 3rd, 2009 1:07 pm ET

There is no arguing that Rush Limbaugh is the leader of the republican party. Any republican, including the chairman Michael Steele himself, think that they must apologize to Rush if they insult or make a negative comment about him. The republicans are big wimps, and if they can't stand up to Rush Limbaugh, they will never be able to stand up to the Democrats!

I must really be uneducated because I really had a hard time understanding your writing. By the way, when you wake up from the transe Obama and your liberal friend have you in, you might want to look at a DOW chart covering the last two years of the Clinton years and the 6 years of Bush years prior to Liberal Pelosi and Reid taking over the congress. ------When you do that you will find that the downward trend in the Market started the last two years of Clinton and went even further down after A (not Bush) disaster of 9-11-01. Your dreaded Bush took the market from 8000 points to 14000 points before Pelosi & Reid started tearing it down to 8500 in the two years they starts ripping up America. Now Obama has taken it from 8500 points to 6800 and falling. Quit drinking the Kool-aid please.

Not to say that we don't have our fair share of not too bright people. The difference is that these idiots that are complaining bout socialism would probably benefit from it. They probably don't even make enough to be taxed at a higher rate and could probably use their dirt road streets paved and an interenet connection set out to their backwoods shack. Ok, that last part was kinda uncalled for, but so what? I get tired of stupid remarks that have about as much merit as Lush Limpballs getting a honorary degree in health sciences.

There's your wealth redistribution. There's your trickle-down fallacy. There's the widening of the wealth gap a la the GOP's failed economic policies. There's the GOP's grand plan for a United States of Hypocrisy.

i can firmly see the racist rants continue. Let me get this straight, any black man who fails to bow down at the alter is a token or uncle tom? Wonder why we can't progess as a people? We kill lthose (thru our words) who disagree with us! I hope your proud! What you fail to remember is the GOP is changing just like the Dems changed in the 60s and 70s. It was the dems who mostly voted against the Civil Rights Act of 64! Yet they are widely embraced by blacks. So don't fault the GOP for changing as well. But you will because it doesn't fit your liberal/socalist agendas!
-------------------

To Steve: we are not talking about 1964, we are talking about TODAY. the right wing of the Republican party holds racist viewsTODAY. Steele is a token, trotted out by the GOP to give the impression that they are inclusive. Saying that the GOP is inclusive is like saying that Fox news is "fair and balanced". Steeve, ask yourself why 4 out of 5 Klansmen and neo nazis support the republican party.

Bachman was wrong. Mike Steele don't "be da man"

John   March 3rd, 2009 12:24 pm ET

We all knew this was going to happen, I don’t think it had anything to do with Steele being black. Rush did the same thing to 2 white Congressmen from the south about 3 weeks ago and they backed down just like Steele did.

And I think it’s going too far to say he (Rush) is the head of the GOP, I will say that he is the lead voice of the conservative party and if you wish to stay in POWER in the GOP you must not upset the almighty RUSH.

It’s sad and down right frightful when you listen to the GOP’ers speak, the garbage they spew is hateful UNAMERICAN and they try to justify it but pulling the wool over the eyes of the conservatives by using FEAR TACTICS and big scary words like SOCIALISM, BIG GOVT., and the really scary thing is people believe them.

They do not fear that a black man is in office, what they fear the most is that he won over 60% of the American vote and WHITE people voted for him and they fear the loss of POWER so they send out the lynch mob / kkk…only today the lynch mob / kkk is RUSH / Hannity and Colmes…Oh yes I can’t forget my buddy O’riley.

I have hope and I think the past 8 years opened the eyes of the American people, you will never have another President run roughshod over this country with fear tactics, talking about the economy and telling you the truth about how bad it is not a fear tactic IT’S THE TRUTH that we as one nation face.

Proud American   March 3rd, 2009 12:24 pm ET

You are correct in the sense that the south (both parties rejected this act). Overall, it was still democrats who had a difficult time with this acts a whole. My main point is blacks gave the dems the time to change and are now embraced by approx 95-97% of blacks. Yet they are unwiilling to do the same for the GOP.

Socialism, huh? Well, maybe we should privatize the fire dept. Those who pay for the gold membership get quicker response time. How about the public library. No one's making any money letting people borrow those books for free. How about roads and bridges. We could pay a toll for every bridge we drive across. What about the police dept.? Social security? The military (oh wait, we already did that, see Blackwater). How about the sewers? everybody could have pay toilets in their house. How about the national parks? We could auction them off to the highest bidder. They're not doing anything just standing there empty.

Unbelievable   March 3rd, 2009 12:22 pm ET

The Mike In Houstons of the world don't need much evidence to form their opionions; the litmus test is whether or not a statement agrees with those things they already want to beleive in. That is, by definition, "the truth."

After all, you barely hear the rare broadcast from poor, victimized Rush Limbaugh anymore these days, right, Mike in Houston?

C W   March 3rd, 2009 12:22 pm ET

Steele is not an Uncle Tom; black people, like all people, hold a variety of political, philosophical, religious, etc., etc., views. It's a matter of character, not race or other identity.

ronnie   March 3rd, 2009 12:19 pm ET

The head of the GOP is Rush. The heart and soul of a dysfunctional, egocentrical party of the "we are entitled". Who use the word Captialism as a badge of honor which essentially means to them "screw the people". That's right Rush...give em heck good ole boy. Don't let some uppity Obama wannabe tell YOU! You're a good ole boy and all is well in your world. Because if you and people like Sarah Palin are what the GOP wants as leadership now the GOP will soon cease to exist. Wake up Eric Cantor and Tim Pawlenty. You are both intelligent and have established yourselves as true leadership material. I am an independent thinker. Come correct or stay at home. The GOP is in jeopardy. Sounds like Rush is about to rush ya'll out of business.

Sharon - NC   March 3rd, 2009 12:18 pm ET

Rush Limbaugh is like Dick Cheney, except his location is not undisclosed and he doesn't care to be behind the scenes. He doesn't realize that most of his 22 million listeners tune in just to see what this trainwreck of a human dares to say next. It's a shame that Mr. Steele has sold out his principles just to keep a position that he, unfortunately, was put in just for effect instead of because of his talents (just like Palin – you think they'd learn). Even as a democrat, I thought that Mr. Jindal held such promise for the American people . . . until he gave the party line speech and interviews and said what Rush Limbaugh told him to say. In this day and age, how can Rush Limbaugh be relevant at all. Hopefully, very soon, he'll be a trivia question in the 'before Americans took back their country' category.

KLK   March 3rd, 2009 12:17 pm ET

Mike Steele has officially rendered himself irrelevant with that apology.

Dan   March 3rd, 2009 12:17 pm ET

For those of you who blindly hate Limbaugh, here is an excerpt from the opening of his CPAC Speech:

"Let me tell you who we conservatives are: We love people. When we look out over the United States of America, when we are anywhere, when we see a group of people, such as this or anywhere, we see Americans. We see human beings. We don't see groups. We don't see victims. We don't see people we want to exploit. What we see - what we see is potential. We do not look out across the country and see the average American, the person that makes this country work. We do not see that person with contempt. We don't think that person doesn't have what it takes. We believe that person can be the best he or she wants to be if certain things are just removed from their path like onerous taxes, regulations and too much government."

richard miller   March 3rd, 2009 12:16 pm ET

Lmurad   March 3rd, 2009 12:11 pm ET

What does it say about the Republican Party that it allows a bloated, former oxycodone addict and social bully to set the agenda for its platform? Limbaugh is visually and verbally a metaphor for what the Republican party is... a waste. It has quickly become very clear and laughable as to why the Republicans hurridly raised Steele as their new face. Like Bush, Steele is a puppet for the nasty man behind the current, first Rove, then Cheney, and now Limbaugh....how much lower can the Republicans sink? It seems they are putting all of their efforts into becoming the poster child for the planet's lowest form of life. Shame on Steele for backing down and shame on the Republicans for accepting the stench that is Limbaugh.

Tina   March 3rd, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Republicans you need ONE person in your party who will stand up to Rush and not back down. Until you can find that the independents will NEVER EVER vote for a party that allows such a bafoon to speak for them. Not only speak for them, but heaven forbid you disagree. Sad, truly sad.

Chipster   March 3rd, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Mike in Houston:

"Dont' worry America. Obama is going to restrict free speach..."

What basis do you have for that statement? Obama has done nothing to stifle free speech. The greatest threat to our liberty in recent history has been the Bush Administration's disregard for constitutional due process, equal protection, and judicial warrants for violating our privacy. You're barking up the wrong tree.

Unbelievable   March 3rd, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Well, that pretty much sums up Rush's place as the mouth of the GOP and as far as he/they are concerned, failure IS an option.

Of course they'll label their knee-jerk opposition to anything coming from Obama as "opposition to socialism," "protecting liberty" or some other nonsense designed to make their general lack of values a more palatable product for the general public, but most people see it for what it is.

I hope the GOP keeps Rush forever ... every extra dollar he earns pushes the GOP another foot into the wilderness of irrelevance. I love it. ,

Nancy, CA   March 3rd, 2009 12:10 pm ET

John E   March 3rd, 2009 11:42 am ET

I've seen countless Republicans throw around this "socialism" thing, but not seen one of them explain what it means or how they came to that conclusion. It's typical GOP politics, sling mud and hope it sticks. I bet 90% of them don't even know what socialism means. They're just repeating what their radio host told them to go forth and repeat.

Socialism is the new "commie" insult, and the people using it have no idea what it even means.

Sniffit   March 3rd, 2009 11:42 am ET

WHEN IS THE WEDDING? I bet the Stormin' Mormon will give Steele away at the altar. Palin can be the flower girl. McCain will preside and, by the powers invested in him by Reagan and the state of enraged confusion, he will pronouce the GOP firmly wed to the hateful rhetoric of the bloviating blowhard. You may now screw America.

Steve@11:24...

I hope for their sake the Republicans are changing but I read an interview with Michael Steele during the Republican convention where he was angry at the omission of minorities at the convention. So, any change so far is cosmetic. Let's see if there is real change.

By the way, to say it was mostly Democrats who were against civil rights is misleading, at best. it was Southerners who did not want to give up their traditions. Guys like Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms. Interesting that they then jumped to the Republican party.

The IDEAL of our FOUNDING FATHERS was NOT **CAPITALISM**...it was DEMOCRACY!! CAPITALISM running this nation is called an *OLIGARCHY*! Oligarchy (Greek Ὀλιγαρχία, Oligarkhía) is a form of government where power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society distinguished by royalty, WEALTH / CORPORATIONS, family, military influence or spiritual hegemony.

If there was ever any doubt as to who controls the Republican party, that doubt has vanished. It is indeed controlled by the ignorant, hate mongers, and they have so much control that Mr. Steele is forced to crawl back to them on his belly and beg for forgiveness. These people clearly represent the new Nazi-like threat of this century. Bigotry, hatred and demagoguery combined with jaw-dropping ignorance – be afraid, America – be very afraid.

If Rush and Steel can work together the GOP can again start being the party of the American people and put an end to the Democrat party and their socialism agenda!

I need rich people to get tax cuts so they can give me a job. I don't need the bridge I drive over to be fixed, I need rich people to get tax cuts so I can get a job. We don't need to get off oil because then rich people might not get tax cuts and I won't get a job. I don't need an end to the war in Iraq cuz thats the only thing hirring right now is the army, so at least my boys will have jobs killing terrorists. I know that Saddam was behind 911 and that Iraq was planning a full on invasion of our great god fearing nation. Thank you Rush I have learned everything I need to know about anything.

Machiavelli, Baton Rouge, LA   March 3rd, 2009 11:16 am ET

Not since Reconstruction has the Republican party taken the Black vote seriously, and that is why Michael Steele was chosen as the face of the Party, to attract the minority vote. However, the plan has miserably failed up to now. Blacks will turn out again in record numbers in '12, but it will be to re-elect Barack Obama and diminish Republican influence in Congress.

flavoter   March 3rd, 2009 11:16 am ET

I hear the republican talking heads saying the Dems are weak on basically everything. Yet the current Republican leadership are all bowing down to a drug addict (no such thing as a cured addict, just an addict that's not currently using) and also he's an entertainer.

And micheal Steele is a major disappointment with his tough talk on the DL Huhgley's show to ( YEA SA Boss, CAN YA'LL FORGIVE ME) mentality talk about a weak party and a major set back for people of any color. How does he think he can attract people to the Good ole' boy environment. When he's being reigned in by a radio show host ( FRICK' IN FUNNY, just like the comedian aslo I live in 772 so I know how Rush is seen on the ground around here ) Micheal Steele just bent over a picked up the soap.

Rush has been allowed to put Steele in the stereotypical " his place" Rush stated Steele is not in charge of the Republican Party just the RNC and threaten the RNC's possible donation drives. RNC being extorted by one of there own.

Steele promised to keep his mouth about Rush plus he gives him a lifetime supply of Oxycodin, Vicodin and Viagra

That last one baffles me and makes me think about why someone who loves himself so much would need Viagra; oh now I see it, no wonder Rush is never there to lend a helping hand, it's always busy.

You go Rush, you be the voice of the GOP and the moderates will keep voting Democrat.

worriedmom   March 3rd, 2009 11:11 am ET

Dave & Gorefan What you don't understand is that a lot of Republican conservatives feel the same way that Rush does. And as usual what you morons don't understand is that Rush said he wants Obama to FAIL if it means taking away our Liberties! Now if you are fine with your President, taking away your freedom of speech and you are fine with saluting his picture each morning then so be it. Your "One" is causing havoc. He is trying to divert attention away from this failing economy. I would rather have Rush leading our party then your Queen Pelosi and King Harry. If things keep going the way they are, all of a sudden you will be hearing a bunch of you that voted for your One crying when all your LIberties are taken away from your Precious one. the problem with you Libs is that you cannot see anyone else's side, you feel your thoughts are gospel. I at least try to see both sides but I do not want my freedom or my children's freedom taken away.

Rush Limbaugh is an egotistical, narcisistic, hate monger. Just because he is educated does not mean he knows anything. Ignorance can be educated but stupid can't be fixed, it is forever. Poor Rush is stuck with it forever.
I have tried to listen to him and tried to understand his point of view. I try to always hear all sides of a subject and then make up my mind. Rush has only 1 point of view, HIS. "Nothing shall so much keep a man in everlasting ignorance, as contempt, prior to investigation". I pray I never get to that pitiful state of mind.

Indoctrination for the GOPers begins in their leathery shells and once they hatch, they begin eating the others in their clutch in their neverending quest for advantage and superiority. That poor 14 year old kid never had a chance. It's unfortunate, because most of the policies these guys espouse hurt the vast majority of their constituents as much as they hurt everyone else...they just don't see it. But hey, there's a reason that 1% of people in the country earn 22% of the total national income...up from about 12% in 1980. The reason? One-issue fundamentalist voters.

If Rush and the rest of the GOP continue with the delusion that their message is good for America, I think they need to be hospitalized. Look where we are after 8 years of GOP leadership (6 years in Congress)? How can anyone blame the deficit on the Democrats? How can anyone say that we just need more of the Republican ideology? We're choking on the mess that the Republican ideology made. And the Republicans are still listening to Rush? He reminds me of a little unpopular kid in school who just hates everyone else. Why would we want to listen to them at all anymore? They've proven that they're wrong, wrong, wrong.

Karen S Crow   March 3rd, 2009 10:59 am ET

Umm .. how about considering this ... They both are pragmatic and realize an all out battle royale would benefit no one but the Dems/Libs. Just a thought.

Financial crisis that we are in today is a crisis for "All Americans". Why doesn't anyone have the cajones to stand up and say Rush Limbaugh is not the leader of the Republican Party? Yes he is an important voice for the base. Yes he exhibits (for the most part) core conservative ideology. But his tone is negative and negativity detracts from our message and the possibility of getting Democrats and more importantly Independents to subscribe to the Republican philosophy.

Stop saying that hes a "great leader" because hes not.
Stop turning around and apologizing to him when you disagree with him. Because usually he's wrong.

Lush Limprick is the HEAD of the Republican NAZI Committee   March 3rd, 2009 10:57 am ET

So, it would appear Emanual is a prophet! He was spot on this development! Steele had to get the kneepads and worship at the alter of the real RNC head, in humiliation on Monday, one day after Emanual's prophecy. Of course, in most voters mind this, has emasculated Steele who is now an impotent token with no credibility until he checks with Lush first. Toss in the Georgia congressman who had to butt snorkel for forgiveness and when Cantor’s explanation of how his comments about not wanting failure for Obama were taken “out of context “ the score will be Rush 3 and RNC 0.

Jindal and Steele, you boys of color better toe the line and remember you two are only in this repub gig to fill the roles of "step" and "fetch it" and only as long as Jabba the Hut enjoys the worship service. Otherwise, he will cut you loose for the price of a shopped script for Vicodin!

As if we needed any further confirmation that the mainstream Republican Party is utterly cowed by the wingnuts – and thus marching further into the abyss – now there's the spectacle of the party's titular head groveling before a loudmouthed bully. Steele's half of the party needs to grow a spine, while Rush's half needs to grow a brain. The absence of either one is lethal.

meaning no disrespect for Mr Steele – I see his placement in the top spot as a token.. everyone is either putting a female or a black in positions so it appears they are as balanced as the Democrates..

sorry Mr Steele – I don't see you as a leader.. you sound like Palin – which turns people off and you act like a 'talking head' which just strengthens the decision for the first reason even stronger...

nope – I don't mind having a difference of opinion – I do mind the nasty comments that seems to fill nearly every press release coming from the RNC and the party in general... and for Rush to have the bxxxx to stand up and say – I want Obama to fail – is a sad message for our country considering how things are... you can disagree with policy, you can disagree with methods – but you don't wish the country ill travels thru the mess the Republican party leadership for the past 8 yrs left us in... and to have Karl Rove out speaking for you – is even sadder..

Michigan   March 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

Don't even try to say who is really in charge...Rush is definitely in charge with everyone apologizing to the bully after "disagreement".....

I'm surprised there isn't a story between Cantor and Limbaugh...Cantor said on a Sunday political program, that he definitely doesn't want the President to fail...you have redeemed yourself in my eyes Eric Cantor!

Good Repubs need to stand their ground against Limbaugh rhetoric if they are ever again to regain respect with enough people to win an election....Limbaugh is a fringe radical extremist of which this country does NOT need....we all need to work together regardless of party affiliation....if they were as smart as they THINK they are, they would make a louder sound asking all good repubs to work with our new President with the seriousness of our problems....not rocket science!

Justin   March 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

Michael Steele is a figurehead, installed to pander to minorities. What a pathetic group of posers the GOP is. What self-respecting person would still be a registered Republican?

Stacy from Leesburg, VA   March 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

I beg you, listen to Rush! His plans are the future of the GOP! I want you to become a marginalized regional party.

Ben in San Diego   March 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

The more Rush consolidated his power and control over the Republican party, the nearer and more certain becomes its death.

montag   March 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

So Steele went on his knees to Rushbo begging for forgiveness, eh? Typical GOP slime – both of them.

Matthew, Detroit   March 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

EVERYONE quotes Rush WRONG.

What he said is he wants Barack to fail "IF that means he changes

the american way of life or the ideal of CAPITALISM"

That is what he has said. The full quote is needed.

The stock market agrees.

The policies Barack is for and the 17 year old girl with her dads credit

card policy are not good for the economy.

He is stopping the RECOVERY of the economy. Team OBAMA is

causing more confusion and not letting the market solve itself.

The ECONOMIST have all turned against him

Hah   March 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

Well, now we know who wears the pants in this relationship.

Todd   March 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

A token put in his place by the REAL leader of the GOP.
VERY SAD!
I wonder what Mr. Steel must be thinking.

chelle   March 3rd, 2009 10:54 am ET

Well there went my brief admiration for the man.....thought he had enough honour and hutzpa to stand up to the far right in his party but NO!!!

Sam   March 3rd, 2009 10:54 am ET

It's a sad state of affairs when a political party is held hostage by a radio commentator and the man pulling that commentator's strings, presumably Roger Ailes.

Perhaps one day Republican politicians will be able to speak for themselves. Until that day, all hail Rush Limbaugh. Pathetic.

Anonymous   March 3rd, 2009 10:54 am ET

Re: Steele crawling to Limbaugh-
They split a pill and chased it down with some MD-20 20.

Re: Piyush Jindal's speech:
Aside from not being as good of a speaker as our beloved President:
He lied about his Katrina experience.
He tried to equate Bush incompetence with government intervention.
His message was out of touch with the people – including the thousands out of work in his own welfare state.
He looks like a skinned possum and he sounds like he's not sure if he wants to be Gomer Pyle or Forrest Gump.

He is way out of his league and can't hold a candle to President Obama's intelligence, wit, grace and dignity. Word to your mother.

maria casler   March 3rd, 2009 10:54 am ET

I'm glad that Steele and Limbaugh had a good talk. When I saw Limbaugh talking I got scared. I'm from Europe and once there was a talker like Limbaugh. I think he is very scary and the republicans should be very carefull with whom they have as theyr friend.
Its amazing to me that somebody can say that he wants his president to fail. That doesn't sound very patriottic to me. Limbaugh should realize that some respect is at his place for the president and other people. Who does he think he is? GOD??????

Mark C   March 3rd, 2009 10:52 am ET

Steele has to meet meet with Limbaugh periodically to get his instructions. It's in his contract as GOP figurehead.

Had It   March 3rd, 2009 10:52 am ET

I found it rather ironic that the "King of Hate" himself (RL) accused the Dems of stirring up fear and hate.

What a joke the GOP has chosen for it's IDOL.

Matthew from Texas   March 3rd, 2009 10:52 am ET

As much as I wish I could say this surprises me, it doesn't. I find it absolutely abhorrent that the party of professionals is taking their orders from a college dropout with no political experience or responsibility on any level be it city, county, state, or federal other than to sit in front of a microphone.

What figure head and chump. You can fool us RNC. This Steele person just a Sarah Palin type sideshow orchestrated by you leader el rushbag. When he got out of lind his chain/noose was given a stiff yank!

cruiserGT   March 3rd, 2009 10:52 am ET

Rush is policing conservative political leaders and forcing them to answer to their constituents. Bully for him!

I would love to see Michael and the balance of the Republican party step up and lead in the advancement of a conservative agenda that will get our country back on track. Socialism and government run private sector is not good for America.

Open Your 3rd Eye   March 3rd, 2009 10:52 am ET

RUSH HAS LOW SELF ESTEEM AND NEEDS ATTENTION TO FEEL LIKE HE MATTERS.

Dieter Zerressen, Denver, CO   March 3rd, 2009 10:52 am ET

There little boat is taking on water and sinking. At first they blamed each other, now Steele is using Limbaugh as a floatation device. Ha, ha, ha.

Wil, Fort Lauderdale, FL   March 3rd, 2009 10:51 am ET

I KNEW Steele would cave! This is the "NEW" face of the Republican party? Oh, Puhleeeeze!!! Steele and Limbaugh are in bed with each other for sure! Somebody please, for the love of God—PUT BOTH OF THESE PIGS IN A PEN WHERE THEY BELONG!!!! OINK, OINK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gorefan   March 3rd, 2009 10:51 am ET

Why are Repulicans such craven cowards? Had anyone else made these comments, they would have been denounced as un-American.
Limbaugh's hope that Obama fails certainly puts him in with some interesting company, I'm sure Bin Laden also hopes that Obama fails. But the Reublicans seem to be embracing these comments. The fact that they come from a drug addict, who sent his housekeeper out to buy his drugs (an act of incredible cowardice), only shows how marginalized the Republicans are becoming.

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   March 3rd, 2009 10:51 am ET

This Steele guy seems like a real jerk. He and fascist Limbaugh should hit it off quite well!!

chris   March 3rd, 2009 10:51 am ET

Steele, how can you claim hip-hop street cred and then bow down to Limbaugh. Michael Steele is a BUSTER!

He basically told you "back down boy...you getting to big for your shorts....and you LISTENED". Come on!

Ryan   March 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

Is Rush a comedian?

JOHN WHITE   March 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

michael your a disgrace, rush your a racist biggot. why cant we just focus on america getting better?

Whatz up   March 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

Geee..... talk about a party to "eats their own" right before our eyes.....

For Micheal Steele to cowardly bend over and lick Rush's butt with his sappy apology was unbelievable. The token black puppet man proves his incompetency yet again. Every time Micheal Steele opens his mouth, he puts his foot in it big time. It's NO wonder why he lost his senate race, he also sucked at being Lt. Governor, no one gave him any attention what-so-ever.

Rush is truly the LEADER of both the RNC and the GOP. LOL.
There is NO one else with the balls to stand by their own statements, they have consistently become nothing but "drag queens" when it comes to Rush. Soon we will be hearing Rush lecture his own party on how to talk, walk and bend over! LOL. This is hilarious, too good to be true!

alvino   March 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

Rush made me realize how strong skin really is, by being able to hold him together.

Kimberly in Azizona   March 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

both are losers, and ignorant. I love them though, they are securing the future of Democrats, and sealing the fate of the gop. They have lost their minds, and are getting worse every day. This morning I seen some 14 year old talking about conservatives. HAHAHA, they have a 14 year old, a pill poping college drop out, a community college grad(palin)(2 year school that took her 4 years to graduate from), mr rogers, (jindal), and this idiot, mr hip hop. What a complete JOKE this party is.

TOMMY PERKINS   March 3rd, 2009 10:49 am ET

This party cannot even stand up to a radio talk show host. 1 by 1 they make a comment the the might rush knocks em back down. A party of spineless individuals.

Angela   March 3rd, 2009 10:49 am ET

Is Rush really that powerful. Steele, you didn't have to fight with him but you could have at least man up to Rush.

Jerry   March 3rd, 2009 10:49 am ET

It is amazing the the RNC and Rush fell right into the trap that the Democrats are setting them up for. By fighting amongst themselves and by putting a highly polarizing figure like Limbaugh at the masthead of the party they are playing right into the strategy of the DNC. The republicans used to be better at this political stuff.

jaye   March 3rd, 2009 10:48 am ET

these republicans are pathethic.

Annie   March 3rd, 2009 10:48 am ET

It's now official, Rush Limbaugh, an unelected college drop out, 3-time divorced drug addict is the head of the Republican party. Fitting, very fitting; Rush sums up the current official Republican stance on just about everything, America for the rich, screw everybody else.

Carrie   March 3rd, 2009 10:47 am ET

That's code for "I kissed his butt."

Cromwell   March 3rd, 2009 10:47 am ET

Apparently, when Michael Steele was appointed Chairman of the RNC, he took it seriously. He actually thought that he was the leader of the GOP. He didn't realize that he was just a token.

Steele made the mistake of publicly questioning the role of Rush Limbaugh as the Boss of Bosses of the Party.

Der Fuhrer quickly put Steele in his place.
Steele has been castigated and publicly humiliated.

Michael Steele now knows his place in the Republican heirarchy.
He is a token, nothing more. And he better not forget it.

Turnabout is Fair Play   March 3rd, 2009 10:47 am ET

We all know now who the Alpha dog is.. the oxymoron.. popping pills and hate.. everywhere else in the world we call this a Gang or Hate group.. But in this case it's just the Republicans.

Johnny Cash wore Black for a reason..– he wore black for the poor and the beaten down, the prisoner who has long paid for his crime, for those who never read or listened to the words that Jesus said. For the sick and lonely, in mournin' for the lives that could have been. For the thousands who have died, believen' that the Lord was on their side. I'd love to wear a rainbow every day, and tell the world that everything's OK, but I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back, Til things are brighter, I'm the Man in Black.

You wear black for HATE

Brian Crooks   March 3rd, 2009 10:46 am ET

Surprise surprise...Michael Steele only took two days to pay a trip to The Godfadda and kiss the rings. Tell me he's not the voice of the party...

Sylvia   March 3rd, 2009 10:46 am ET

CNN where is this story: Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has more than $75 million worth of earmarks in the omnibus spending bill. CNN prints and reports foolish stories like Meaghan McCain's love life, etc, etc. Print and report some real news on your website and network for a change.

Hall for Obama   March 3rd, 2009 10:46 am ET

Steele did not have to call Rush. Rush knows he is the boss of the Republican Party.

Kim   March 3rd, 2009 10:45 am ET

Rush doesn't speak for the GOP, yet every time, they run back apologizing to him.

This is so pathetic.

THIS IS LIKE TRYING TO MIX OIL AND WATER. RUSH LIMBAUGH IS THE LEADER OF THE GOP AND THE FACTS SPEAK VERY CLEARLY. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE MR STEELE HANDS IN HIS RESIGNATION. THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS GONE TO A NEW LOW AND HAS BECOME THE DOOR-MAT FOR MOST AMERICANS.

uv777bk   March 3rd, 2009 10:45 am ET

How utterly, utterly pathetic. Limbaugh is a maniac.
Maybe he should run as RNC chair and Presidential candidate.
Bush only managed to partially subvert the constitution. I'm sure Limbaugh could do far 'better'.

jdp   March 3rd, 2009 10:43 am ET

The fact that Steele actually felt it necessary to speak with Limbaugh just proves who really wears the pants in the Republican family. I'm all for it... let Limbaugh keep dictating terms to the party, and make them even more insignificant than they already are.

TD   March 3rd, 2009 10:42 am ET

Rush is no different to the Republican party than Oprah, Michael Moore, or Sean Penn is to the Democratic party. They are ALL entertainment personalities who also have major influence. I never heard the media or the republicans suggest who the real "leader" of the democratic machine was. Why is the White House wasting time & energy & trying so hard to go after Rush? Seems to me, the White House is pushing for even more divide in this country, which is sad. This last election left many feeling like the U.S. is no longer one nation....so sad.

sf   March 3rd, 2009 10:42 am ET

Wow...

Wes   March 3rd, 2009 10:42 am ET

Rush Bimbaugh....King of the Good Bushies!

One cross word against the king and immediate apology MUST be issued. Check is out they all repent in tears after anti-Rush speak.

(and nice black, silk greaser outfit Rush! Heck you look the roll of a drug addict now.)

Going from selling used cars to making $30,000,000 per year selling Good Busheism. I guess Rush is the smart on when you really think about it.

Linda   March 3rd, 2009 10:42 am ET

Yes, you should be all good after Limbaugh put you back in your place. He told you to go BEHIND the scene and work. In other words, you need to get out of sight. You know the RNC only hired you as their token to go up against President Obama.

windfall   March 3rd, 2009 10:42 am ET

this is just sad. Limbaugh's job is to bring in listeners because it translates to money.

he never has to listen, negotiate, or be responsible for the people he represents.

the GOP has officially crashed and burned.

King Rush   March 3rd, 2009 10:41 am ET

Cleaning up after W   March 3rd, 2009 10:41 am ET

Well, I'm certainly glad the jello-spined Steele and the Rushberry Doughboy are back on speaking terms.

Steele is a joke, along with the rest of the GOP. It is truly pathetic that they take their marching orders from an hypocritical drug-popping entertainer. The party of Lincoln is officially dead. They are a party of the lunatic fringe, now. With their talk about bringing down the government and hoping it fails, they are nothing more than economic jihadists.

Bill Williams   March 3rd, 2009 10:41 am ET

A fat drug addict who goes overseas to have sex with young people! Way to go Repubs!

Ha! This is the face of the Republican Party! What a joke.

OBAMA NATION RULES!

I'm so happy the American people made the right choice in November. I can only imagine how much worse things could get with these right-wing facists running the show beyond the 8 years they had.

Rush Limbaugh is a big, fat Wall Street lover!

HAHAHA!!!! Welcome to the GOP Circus

The Bu   March 3rd, 2009 10:39 am ET

Am I the only person that thinks this Rush Limbaugh and the Republican Party thing is getting out of hand. Since when do elected officials have to apologize to a radio talk show host? I understand that their constituents may be "conservative" but has it really come to this? WOW! So, "conservatives" are no longer calling themselves Republicans anymore? Does the "conservative" agenda no longer fit within the Republican platform? Hhhhmmm!!! So, how long can the Republicans survive without the "conservative" movement?

Teddy   March 3rd, 2009 10:37 am ET

What a butt kisser!!! Michael Steele as well be Rush’s woman. The fact that he and everyone who has said anything against Rush "drug addicted hypocrite" Limbaugh proves who is in charge.
