(CNN) – The Obama girls still don't have a puppy, but they did receive another surprise when they arrived home from school Wednesday– a brand new swing set.
A spokeswoman for First Lady Michelle Obama says Malia and Sasha, ages 10 and 7, "squealed with delight" when they saw their surprise, playing on the swing set for almost an hour in the chilly weather.
The girls' parents arranged for the play set to be installed Wednesday at the White House grounds, within sight of the Oval Office, before Malia and Sasha arrived home from Sidwell Friends school.

Sweet. I wasn't a rich kid like the Obama girls, but my brother and I had a swing-seesaw set in our yard when we were kids and we had a great time with our friends. Have a great time girls!

Kids still play on swingsets? I thought they only camped in front of the television and video games. Ahhh well, it'll be good for show and tell, as well as family photo opportunities.
i'm glad to see the obama's making their daughters' lives as normal as possible under the circumstances. but i'm amazed that cnn considers this worthy of putting in the political ticker. the only reason i can see them doing it, is to stir up mindless criticism from people who will argue that he should be worried about the deficit and not spend taxpayer money on a swing set for his daughters. idiot ditto-heads

How nice. I am a father to small children, and my heart was filled with joy to read this. How fantastic that there is a swing set on the White House lawn. I can't fully explain my reaction to this, but it's just nice and cheery.
Why is this news? It's as uninteresting as the "great dog hunt".
This is a very sweet story, but I really don't need to hear about every step of these babies lives. Can we just let them grow without it being in a fish bowl. I think it's pretty hard enough having to share your Dad with a nation. That's more than enough right there.
At least some people aren't feeling the impacts of the economy.

We did the same thing for our kids when we moved into our new house in Clovis, CA, in 1985. Our daughter was 6 and our son was 4 at the time.
They enjoyed it until we moved to Danville, CA in 1989 – we sold it to a family around the corner from us before moving. In Danville we were in a HOA that wouldn't let us have one at home, but they had a bigger one to go to at the HOA park!

Children should always be allowed to be children and thank God these girls have parents that continue to allow them to enjoy the same things as all children. They too are Gods little precious angels.
They are great kids, who I'm sure by no choice of their own life as they knew it completely changed. I think it's great to award them with those type of pleasures. I believe that life in the white house for any president children has to feel like prison from time to time.
