(CNN) –- Actor and sustainable housing advocate Brad Pitt brought his pitch to the nation’s capital Thursday, meeting with President Obama at the White House and Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Capitol Hill.

Watch: Brad Pitt visits Capitol Hill

After a brief stop by the executive mansion to meet with the president and his climate czar, Pitt met with Pelosi in her Capitol office to share details of his charity housing efforts in New Orleans.

One thing’s for sure: policy conferences on the Hill don’t usually pull out a crowd like this.

A throng of giggling fans, mostly female, gathered to catch a glimpse of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" star as he posed for pictures following their meeting.

Pelosi hailed Pitt’s work for the city of New Orleans as a “model for the nation.”

“It really is an honor to have him here and I know for some of my staff, and for bragging rights for my children and grandchildren, a real treat for me as well,” she said.

Pelosi, posing with Pitt and South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn at the congressional photo-op following their meeting, said the actor had been telling her about how the homes his foundation has built built to a "green standard," with utility bills of less than $10 a month.

"It's possible," said Pitt.

The actor’s foundation, "Make it Right," works to construct sustainable housing for low-income residents in New Orleans who lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina. Launched in 2007, Pitt's project focuses on NOLA's Lower Ninth Ward, a region ravaged by the 2005 hurricane. Pitt shares a home in the French Quarter with his girlfriend, actress Angelina Jolie.

“I just want to say thank you to the Speaker for opening up the doors for us to come in and discuss the rebuilding efforts, the current rebuilding efforts going on in New Orleans, and to how we can expand this idea of affordability and sustainability which we think we have a model that works," Pitt said, amid a flurry of camera flashes.

Pitt’s companion Angelina Jolie was also in Washington Thursday, shooting scenes for her upcoming film, “Salt.”

I have nothing but respect for Brad Pitt's efforts to help rebuild my hometown of New Orleans. It is one of the largest rebuilding efforts in the city. To date they have 6 homes built. SIX HOMES IN ALMOSTf FOUR YEARS!!! That is 6 more homes than would have been rebuilt without Mr. Pitt. I do not say this to denigrate him at all, but to let Americans know this is what this country has become. An American city is almost completely wiped off the face of the Earth, and NO HOMES are rebuilt by government, 150 homes are rebuilt by Habitat for Humanity, 200 homes are rebuilt by the St. Bernard Project, and 6 homes by the Make it Right Foundation. That is it folks. 200,000 homes lost and that is the best this country can do to help. New Orleans has rebuilt by the fortitude of the people that love her, but government... forget about it. Know that if the unbelievable hits your community, you are on your own. Don't believe any promises the government tells you because they will never materialize.

Wow, doesn't get more shallow and stupid than this. Just another example of how easily americans are seduced by celebrity. Is pitt a good actor? Yes. Does his opinion mean anything more than mine or your own? No. But he certainly wants to capitalize on others suffering to increase his stature in the world (a billionaire building a few "sustainable" homes and then proclaiming, and promoting himself in the process, some type of radical breakthrough is anything but -sounds a lot like our self absorbed celebrity potus). Anyone who can't see through this insincerity probably didn't see through Obama's silky smooth (not to mention annoyingly condescending) but ultimately meaningless and empty rhetoric.
______________________________________________________

Are you sure it doesn't get any more stupid? Please explain to me how helping people is shallow or stupid and how he is trying to capitalize on that? It is a sad day when you have people saying something negative when someone is trying to help others. I mean he is Brad Pitt who is with Angelina Jolie I'm pretty sure they don't need to do anything for publicity. If he had all the money in the world and chose to do this for people it wouldn't matter, what matters is that he is helping. Heaven help you if for some reason you may find your self needing help and othesr considered it stupid or shallow to do so. Be blessed!!!!!

Now is the time..   March 5th, 2009 10:52 pm ET

Way to go Brad!! You rock!! Many actors are off partying and spending money like drunken soldiers.. and you're actually contributing something worthwhile to society.. how many are doing that? So yes, we reward good behavior. Thank you for being a good citizen (albeit very talented & wealthy actor). :)

I live about an hour from N.O. it is a beautiful but troubled place. Years of DEMOCRATIC CONTROL have driven it down. Most of the people had been hearing "this is the big one" for years. Each time they would pack up and sit in grid lock on bridges getting out. After so many false alarms many people began CHOOSING to ride it out. Sadly, they were not prepared when it finally was the big one.

Not to mention we had an inept Democratic Gov. This past round of hurricanes with Gov. Jindal in charge it was a better story. As he said after the Presidents address ...it was when govt got involved & stopped citizens from going to the rescue of their fellow makind due to "red tape" that people stopped getting rescued.

We need to look to local & state govts not the federal politicos in DC. Tax dollars should stay in communities.

Most of the posters here (some from New Orleans) have no idea what happened in N.O. except what you probably saw in some "documentary" from Spike Lee. Democrats failed the city and they keep voting for thiefs like Cold Cash Jefferson.

Chris W,   March 5th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Brad and Angelina need to build a house for the Octuplets mom, a very very big house. She was only trying to be like Ms. Jolie, you know, "Mother Nature".
Put these two families together and you could fill the lower ninth ward.....

nadinewi   March 5th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

I'm glad to see Brad Pitt bringing attention to New Orleans. The Bush administration really dropped the ball on helping these people. If it takes a famous person to get the much needed help to the people of New Orleans, then so be it. President Obama is sending more money to help rebuild homes. I'd much rather read about people receiving help in New Orleans then about Gov. Bobby Jindal's bad speech.

For Jim, Burlington NC – This is for you if CNN is willing to post it.

Definition of Socialism:

1. Any of various theories or systems of social organization where the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
2. The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, where collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not been successfully achieved yet.

Nicole   March 5th, 2009 10:30 pm ET

Umm...12,000 students and community members congregated on DC this past weekend to lobby our government in making a climate treaty to show at Copenhagen. It's nice that actors are involved too, but it seems like we pay more attention to one actor visiting DC than 12,000 people who voted in the past election based on environmental issues and physically lobbied our government this Monday, which was the largest lobby day on energy and climate issues in history.

JB   March 5th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

You have to admit, Obama is the exact opposite of Clinton. He is not working. He is publicly galavanting around with celebrities, going to basketball games, and never leaving Washington, all the while, our economy is crumbling. Just a prediction (and I am no economist), and I will say I told you so, when it happens. Tomorrow, our stock market will go down because of the job numbers. Then, on Monday. . . another black monday (all crashes occur on a monday). We will see 5000 on Monday. And the next 4 years will be spent in a DEPRESSION. Obama, who I voted for continues to do what is wrong for the economy while pandering to the blue collar people of this country who made dumb decisions, too interested in IPODs and 60,000 dollar cars. These people in addition to dumb decisions by Obama will be the downfall of this country. And then, dems will balme Bush. This will not be Bush's fault, but, dems will say it is so. Just a prediction. I hope I am wrong.

Debi   March 5th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

Pitt, who has no political gain here, has done more for the people of New Orleans than the elected officials..... including Jindal.

So, complain all you want about Pitt just wanting to show off...... he is a private citizen that just decided to do good with his popularity.

At least someone has finally done something for the people of New Orleans. I did not see any of these rich CEOs coming out of their mansions to help. Bush and family with their many houses, did NOTHING for these people.

Vincent   March 5th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

...and yet another actor positioning himself for office. Do we Americans really take these people serious? I'm not sure who has the most googley eyes – congress or the easily dooped public. Yes, he has done something nice, cudos or cookies Mr. Pitt?

andre   March 5th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

I cant believe the amount of negativity here! The guy is trying to contribute to the community – let him do it!! He really did not have to care. I doubt if he is making money through these charities...in fact he could make more by spending time in Hollywood. His actions do not warrant such nasty remarks really. I hope he continues to do what he is doing. Which is helping those in need. I am not gay, but if I were, he will be the only guy I would make out with :-)

Scotish Mama of Missouri   March 5th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

WOW~some VERY VERY ignorant repukes on here! Brad Pitt has given MILLIONS to homeless, and is building homes!!!!!!!!!!!!! How DARE you morons judge him. Atleast he is not a millionaire that is buying mansions and cars and screwing the American people. He is doing nothing but good, and bringing awarness to many many things. You people get more sick by the day, and thank GOD we have people like him, and not like BUSH and his millions doing NOTHING FOR ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brad Pitt deserves ALL the attention he is getting, and tell me what has your fat cow pill popin God rush limpball done???? HUH???? NOTHING! You give him the mic, worship him make him millions, and he DOES NOTHING!!!! What the HELL makes rush worthy of anything??? Because he hates America you love him! Shame on all you people on the right!!!!!!!

brandi   March 5th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

why dont they ever give help or aide to the areas really effected by hurricanes? New Orleans is not the only city affected by natural disasters, this was just their first taste, but they got all the money? why about the entire cities wiped out in Mississippi? can some one help them? and has congress turned into Hollywood? i think the answer is yes. this is just silly, students like me everyday volunteer to help the suffering but we dont get government or media fame for it. Helping others: Its called being a human being, its called being a proud, patriotic American.

CCrellin   March 5th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

While I am a supporter of Obama, having some lame celebrity show up and make a comment is a joke.

Actors act, that doesn't mean they have a lick of knowledge of anything else.

We should end this buddy-buddy nonsense with so-called celebrities, what do they know more than you or me?

Lilly Rose   March 5th, 2009 10:11 pm ET

Brad Pitt is amazing. He does not even have to care, but he does. The Repiglicans should take a page from his book. And all of you fools who insist that President Obama is making the stock market fall, well it went up when he announced his house plan IT WENT UP. I didn't see a word about that. If you don't have anything to add to helping the country, why not STFU. The Republicans way of doing things didn't work for if it had, we would not be in this mess. Things would be fine and we can't wait for the 'market to correct itself'. I am not nearly as afraid of socialism as I am of the Republican idea of 'leave it alone, it will correct itself."

My daughter is in 11th grade. Her teacher just loves Obama, everything wrong in the world is due to the Republicans and only the Democrats can fix it. If you happen to be one of those students that agree with a liberal teacher, well, you're bright and will go far. If you don't agree with the liberal teacher, well, just sit down and shut because no one wants to hear from anyway.
Yep, I just love those liberals because they are warm, non insulting, caring, and just give me that warm fuzzy feeling.

Brad Pitt for Governor of Louisiana and get rid of Jingal. Jingal is more interested in pleasing the Republicans instead of the people of Louisiana.

I think it is wonderful Brad has been interested in the rebuilding of NO. The ninth ward especially needs rebuilding, as thr residents are poor.

Kim   March 5th, 2009 9:51 pm ET

For all you people that think Hollywood is just showing up, let's me know that you need to come out of the caves you live in and get in touch with the world. Brad, Angelina, Oprah and others are not just now showing cause, they were there in New Orleans right after Katrina hit. Working, pulling they're resources and money together to help those that got no help from your beloved President at the time....shut up and learn how to help those that are less fortunate than yourselves....some people are so selfish and shallow.....

Jan Illinois   March 5th, 2009 9:50 pm ET

Brad Pitt is for sure a fine actor but today you better look at him as a very fine person and American to the bone. He has done a tremendous service for New Orleans when the rest of the United States looks the other way , which is something to be ashamed. He is to be commended for doing something for people in his OWN country. Others make their livings here and do all they can to support other countries, that is good as well , but when the United States is in such need, It should be the Pitt way, Country first.

Brad's got a brain and a soul. It appears that both are in pretty good shape and directed by a person who values other human beings. Good on ya, Brad

Jen   March 5th, 2009 9:45 pm ET

Pelosi's face says it all. I truly wish we had leaders during this difficult time who do not glorify celebrities and their own egos. Give me someone who puts America's well being first (literally instead of figuratively). Celebrities are no more enlightened than any of us. They are creating the world they want us to live in, except they will never have to live in it with us. Their money and fame lets them live above it. We, the people, need to seriously wake up and demand better.

Other Jean   March 5th, 2009 9:44 pm ET

Reading comments on news sites is so discouraging. Maybe humanity really is doomed. The unthinking cruelty, the ignorant jibes, the destructive and constant carping, the wish to tear down and spew hatred without ever stopping to think. It kills the spirit. I keep coming back thinking, maybe an actual discussion will have started. Maybe people will be exchanging ideas. The generations that worked and fought to give everyone a voice must have expected better.

Terry, TX   March 5th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

Brad Pitt needs to come to Texas and pick up his New Orleans refugees.

They are in Houston, Austin, Dallas & Lubbock ...come and pick up your welfare, free housing, free food refugees.... that are still here. How many years do we have to keep and support them. We have enough problems with illegal aliens.

Nikki   March 5th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

Independent   March 5th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

I love all the condescending remarks from dems claiming the moral high ground as all the republicans are "haters" and "have no ideas" etc, etc. That is certainly the pot calling the kettle black. Seems to me all i ever hear from dems is anger, hate, and vitriol. Whether you are in power or not. Now that you are in power you want to silence those who disagree with you while at the same time championing free speech for those who agree with you. Can't have it both ways kids. Just ignore the Republicans like they did to you when they were in power. Save you some energy you can use to go build a sustainable home for someone.

YBM   March 5th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

Nothing against Brad Pitt, I like some of his movies. I also aplaude that he and his wife are charitable. But I think the people of New Orleans are taking advantage. At least the ones with their hands still out after almost 4 years.

My question is what have the people that still have their hands out, done for themselves?? It seems to me they are pretty lazy. Expecting the government (or someone like Brad) to take care of them because they are too lazy to take care of themselves. Seems like they are deadbeat bums.

Before you all start jumping on me give a read, my brother lived down in Biloxi and lost everything he owned. He packed up what was left, moved to another state, used 2 WEEKS of FIMA help with a hotel, got another job and moved on with his life. In less than 2 months he was working on getting back on his feet.

There are people still with their hands out after almost 4 years!!! I have trouble feeling sorry for them.

Really???   March 5th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

Really??? Why can't anyone without any expertise in an area walk right in and talk to the President of the United States?

This is ridiculous and clearly is only a result of Obama's pop star status.

You would have never let us get into this mess, right? Mmmhmm. Well, here we are, and it's been Dems and Reps alike on the pathway here. So stop being lame, and TELL US WHAT YOU'D DO TO FIX THINGS. Kthx.

While it is not generally a good thing to suck up to celebrities, this case may be OK since in fact the nation's building codes and housing codes are severely retarded and should be scrapped in favor of a brand new set of rules and requirements. The vast majority of our homes are sub-standard dwellings, built like third-world tin can and cardboard dwellings, with an outward appearance of "beauty" and inward rot. No new development of homes should be allowed to proceed without a thorough review of the plans. We need, for example, to eliminate flush toilets in favor of composting toilets, thus radically changing the sewer and waste management services provided by towns and municipalities; we need to cut down on water use; increase insulation values and designs to lower energy needs; and we need to build to last. Hopefully, when health care and a few other issues have been taken care of, the government will take up building codes.

How come no one ever tells me about the idiot Nancy Pelosi. Someone needs to get rid of her and start our goverment over again with minds. If you want to be a congressman/woman or senator you need to be active and away from lobbyists. Maybe the start ought to be with getting rid of Wall Street and GM and put those monies toward our kids and their education. Futures need to be gone also. I do not see so much happening with the stimulus with Obama. I still will give him time because he cannot do any worse then Bush. I agree with KC, she is fulll of it and needs to be taken out of the picture. Actors need to stay out of the picture. They also make too much monies. Why don't these people adopt American kids? As someone who spent a year with AmeriCorps doing Gulf Coast recovery work and other community service around the country during the Bush years, it is frustrating for me to see celebrities coming out en masse pontificating about the importance of service. Where were they the past eight years?

To me, it looks like they're only willing to work with DC and back causes as long as they approve of who is filling the chair in the Oval Office.

Scotish Mama of Missouri March 5th, 2009 7:30 pm ET

I have a question for Brad, How are you greening up the houses?

The homes are LEED certified for building materials that both cause minimal environmental impact, are make from recycled material, and give off no volatile organic compounds. The homes are oriented for and installed with solar panels to provide energy that doesn't come from the local electrical grid. The houses are raised up above the worst of the flood plane for the next inevitable hurricane.

Is Gov. Jingl fixing the levi correctly now? No, they're still vulnerable.
Was that part of the Gov. Stimulus proposal? No, it's Pitt's private money.
Was it part of his pork money? No.

Having worked as a volunteer in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward, I am thrilled that Brad Pitt is continuing his efforts to literally "make it right" down there. Despite the fact that I appreciate his efforts there, however, I really can't stand how stars are coming out en masse with all of their varying causes NOW.

To me, it's frustrating because all of these causes could have been helped by them for the last couple of years, but they wouldnt work with DC because they didn't approve of the president. Now that they do, they care about causes enough to be seen on Capitol Hill. What happens to these people and these causes if Hollywood doesn't agree with the next president?

Particularly irritating to me is Tobey Maguire, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher and their community service soapbox. Some of us were doing it all along, whether we agreed with the politics in DC or not. Now is not the time for pontificating, its a time to get out and do something.

(I leave Brad Pitt out of this because he does his work under the radar scope no matter who's in office)

It's funny how republicans can somehow ignore those facts when dogging celebrities.

Who cares about this fluff? A washed-up pretty boy philanderer and a bunch of fat cats talking about what? The real deal is that the Obama administration in cahoots with the Congress and Senate including Republicans are leading this country to one world economy by deliberately adopting policies designed to kill off personal wealth. They destroyed the real estate and financial markets and are targeting tax havens. Now you poor slobs may think that it's all well and good to hate the rich, but they are your employers dimwits! Say your prayers fools and stop guzzling the kool-aid.

Brad Pitt needs to stay out of politics. His family is a disgrace to the nation. Why not adopt kids from your own country that need help? We have starving children too ya know. Don't forgot, Angelina is such a great role model though, I mean, look at Octo-mom.

Joey: Brad and Angelina can adopt children from wherever in the world they choose to do so. Although some of their children are from foreign lands, they represent the changing face of America. It's called diversity.

Brad is doing an admirable job and it's great to see people with resources working towards goals that make differences in other people's live.

Disclaimers aside, I felt like throwing up at the thought of our highest levels of politicians wasting time being enamored by Benajmin Button. What in the hell makes them think that NOW is a good time to waste time entertaining celebrities for "bragging rights"?

Don't they have a damned "to-do" list?

What about Republican haters, constitution haters, personal-responsibility haters, success haters, Joe 6-pack haters, Bush haters, man haters, white haters...can you get the sarcasm? I'm trying to lay it on pretty thick so you'll get it. Point is, there is hate on both sides of the isle. I am also picking up on the racist undertones of your diatribe. I would suggest some counseling could do you good Sir. :)

Unlike some of those who write here and complain, some, like Jimmy Carter, Brad Pitt, and others are getting things done without fanfare. Or being asked to

So instead of the mocking of those who want to help improve the lives of those whose needs are great, why not offer whatever skills you have, get out there and do something...There's plenty to do. And who knows you might feel better about yourself.

However, Texas who have a larger coast and gets hit more times than the puny coast of Louisiana....

Again I think we had 60 deaths....very low....why .....because when a storm hits we pick up our relatives and don't let them drown in their homes.....whey because they will die...., we board our houses....our mayors and counties coordinate the evacuations.... not the federal government....our people are the first after the storm with the feds coming behind them.... then we are own volunteers.

If we had that moron Louisiana Mayor.... we would have shot him......what does Louisiana do......they re-elect him. I wouldn't give Louisiana a dime.....

Why is it those on the right have no solutions; but have plenty to say about others who do care? That’s the problem those on the right only think about themselves first. Party first, Country Last.

Typical, for those on the right to moan and groan about others not doing enough, and yet they sit back, and do nothing, but complain about what others do, by making an effort to do something.

It sure beats doing nothing, talk is cheap and actions speak louder, than meaningless words with no action, to back them up.

James in CA.   March 5th, 2009 8:06 pm ET

Kudos to Brad for using some of the many millions he's made off movies to actually do some good in our country. Maybe some of the rich republicans should take a lesson from him.

Benjamin   March 5th, 2009 8:05 pm ET

This is refreshing news, probably one of the best contributions that have come from private citizens to aid the victims of katrina. Brads program doesn't help the lower income residents of New Orleans. To buy his homes you need upper middle class salaries. However, he did satisfy a need for that area and I applaud him for that. If the Bush administration had not withdrawn the millions that was earmarked for levy repair, maybe the effects of katrina would have had different results. Good sensible Americans, regardless of party affilliation want this administration to succeed. They know it's good for the country. Job-loss, foreclosures, and the stress that accompanies this, has no preference for Republican or Democratic, black or white. However there are those who trumpet failure, without a clue to what the ramifications would be to our society. Think about what Brad Pitt has done, he's doing his part to help this country. What are you doing, shouting failure or supporting the USA??

Fritz   March 5th, 2009 8:05 pm ET

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I'll sleep better knowing Brad Pitt stopped by the White House. What's next: a Led Zeppelin Reunion tour kicks -off in the Oval Office and rock's the House?

James in CA.   March 5th, 2009 8:03 pm ET

Those on the right always have a lot to say about nothing. Yet are the first to complain when others make an effort to do something.

Maybe those on the right should put more action into their meaningless complaints about others, who actually do put their words into action.

Typical complain, with no action to show for it.

Talk is cheap, action is priceless.

New Orleans Native   March 5th, 2009 8:02 pm ET

I am native New Orleanian, Katrina survivor and I proudly still call NEW ORLEANS home. New Orleanians commend Brad Pitt for the work he has done here. His Makeitright Foundation has built many homes in the Lower 9th Ward. He has also bought a home here and supports our city. He has not forgotten about us, as many in this nation have done. Over 100,000 homes have been destroyed here from Federal levee breaches due to Katrina's wrath. Our REBUILD is a Marathon, not a sprint! I hope none of you have to suffer through a natural disaster the magnitude of Katrina. She was the greatest natural disaster to hit this country and I am deeply offended by some of the posts in this forum. It saddens me to know my fellow countrymen feel this way about one of the oldest and most beloved cities in the United States.

Additionally, I am also a proud registered DEMOCRAT. Louisiana may be a Red state. But, New Orleans is a BLUE city, so please educate yourselves. We have voted Democrat for many, many years in Presidential elections, including the last two! Lastly, I don't care for our governor, but his name is JINDAL..not Jingl.

abc   March 5th, 2009 8:02 pm ET

i agree with Indy on this city's flooding environment. maybe the federal government should examine to find better solutions for this location which is geographically challenged by hurricanes. like Holland, they developed new technology for flood prevention. if we have similar ability, we may even subcontract to other cities around the world that are in same situation. rebuilding NO is a tricky project. the new FEMA staffs with Homeland Security Secretary were there today and promised to rebuild with more effort. i say maybe relocating the people to higher ground and rebuild the "danger zone" with a different theme.
politically, Mr. Jindal should start contributing more to rebuild than making funny speeches so he may have a better shot in when 2012 comes around, or the federal government will have the credit if they move faster than his team. action over words, time is ticking.

wyzgirl   March 5th, 2009 7:59 pm ET

I don't think building in an area that has the potential to flood again (the city was built below sea level afterall) is a great idea. New Orleans flooding was always a possibility, no matter what party was in the White House.

I'm sorry but I don't know what is going on with society whatever happened to if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything. It aggravates me when people try to dictate what others do with their life, this man doesn't have to do what he is doing to help anyone but he is doing it which is more than I can say for the Fema trailers, then I read someone commenting on their adopted children unless u have adopted some children from here or anywhere else in this world what gives you the right to say what they are doing is wrong they don't ask for no help to raise those kids so what would ones' beef be with what they are doing to make a difference and help innocent children regardless of where they are from.

Why does this guy get the publicity? Because he's involved in housing??? Why isn't the media focusing on the average Joe who volunteers his/her time for similar projects.

It's good to see a "Hollywood Wacko" using his millions to help people that he could completely ignore. Brad Pitt is the kind of person this country needs more of. He's helping others for no other reason than it's the right thing to do. This isn't socialism. It isn't some nefarious (for you Republican conservatives, that means "sneaky") plot to overthrow Rush Limbaugh's view of the world. It's simply being a good person. Wow! What a concept! Now where is the head of the Republican Party... doesn't Rushy Boy have some outrageous thing to say about this happening? Seriously.... he is such a sicko.... I can't hardly stand to see him on the news... and NEVER listen to him on the radio! The man is a nut case! :)

Virginia   March 5th, 2009 7:22 pm ET

I continue to thank Brad Pitt for what's he has been doing in New Orleans. He put $5 million of his own money into the Make it Right and they've been building homes for a while now.

Have you?

cord   March 5th, 2009 7:20 pm ET

Nothing against Pitt. I guess he's doing something better than getting botox or something.

But Pelosi is pretty pathetic - she actually admits to having "bragging rights" with her kids/grandkids about meeting Pitt. Please, Nancy, just try and live up to your promise that there will be "zero" earmarks in the stimulus legislation packages . . . Leave the vain photo opps for another day . . .

Mike   March 5th, 2009 7:17 pm ET

If George Bush was so dumb, he sure pulled a lot over on you liberal whiners. As for this article, who gives a rats rear that Brad Pitt visited the WH. Don't you folks have anything better to look into like what your so called leader is doing?

Jim   March 5th, 2009 7:17 pm ET

For all you whiners and hate mongers posting here, there are actually many people serving America and helping their fellow human beings by actually doing something. Quit whinning and start making a real contribution in some meaningful way please!!!!!!!!!

No Respect   March 5th, 2009 7:13 pm ET

Brad Pitt owes the US Government more respect that to meet with them looking as he did. Loosened tie, a shaven mess, a casual stance. Having an opportunity to meet with the Speaker is an honor, and should be treated like one.

I have one thing to say about people who complain about movie stars. They are so quick to condemn them, but you hardly ever hear when they are doing stuff like Pitt is doing.

And look at President Carter and his wife and Habitat for Humanity. I sure as heck don't see any republican movie stars or ex president helping the public. All they are doing is sitting back and trying to make more money for THEMSELVES. But then that's republicans for you their gods are greed and selfishness.

Keep the Change   March 5th, 2009 7:08 pm ET

Tell Pitt to go make a movie and leave politics alone. The Hollywood left has done quite enought damage that conservatives will have to repair in the years to come.

Brad P is doing something great... and he doesn't HAVE to do anything at all. Wish more people would be positive and DO something to help others. My mother is 74 and helps deliver meals on meals with a few other ladies from her retirement community on Long Island once a week and she is the driver... my sister is a companion 1 day a week for a elderly lady who has dementia. (These are extra activities for mom and sister...done for free) I work many extra hours at the public school where I teach in NYC and plan to work for free –afterschool when necessary if funding is cut to our afterschool programs in the Bronx. Others plan on doing the same to ensure our students will still have essential afterschool programming– all around the city, many are doing some type of service.

To the haters... give it a rest. Get up off your lazy asses and do something to help in your community... really... while you're at it, put down the chips & turn off the TV and read a book. What about dragging your nasty-mean spirited UnAmerican fat ass to the gym? Do some service... Be kind and help out instead of being part of the problem. That's the American way.

The cost of going GREEN, will run you on a 30 year mortgage beyond belief! If you dont mind paying interest on the extra 200 per power bill you have for 30 years, instead of basically paying it as principle as the difference. I guess your economics and understanding are way better than mine. Besides people more money in your pocket means you will buy more toys which you dont need at all! No disipline in the world today, the work ethic is shot to heck and everyone wants 300 bucks an hour to cut ya hair. The generation of positive work ethics is gone, no one realizes that farmers spend their entire life to support Americans and end up broke and mortgaged to the hill.....Who bails them out! Independant Oil producers, yeah THOUSANDS of them, who pads their pockets when its a dry hole that cost over 2 mill to drill and frac? You people dont get it, Banks are in the problem they are because of FRADULENTLY SUBMITTING income or "Making it work" applications for a BONUS, then when it all bellyflops you want to cry wolf and bail out... Its called BUSINESS! You didnt manage you failed , sell out and go get in the stamp line!

No mercy, tell it like it is and dont hide. Get some gumption.

Good for Brad – his heart's in the right place and I'm sure the people living in those new homes are very grateful for what he's doing. I wish I was financially well enough off to do the same.

It's time for our politicians to put aside their differences and come together to help each other rebuild this great country with new ideas new inspiration and get involved individualy to get things done, rather than just talking the talk but not walking the walk. The time is now to follow leaders like Brad Pitt who could have just lived his life as a famous actor but he choose a different path,he is the voice of millions of victims out there in New Orleans who lost everything and was left for dead. There is a light at the end of the tunnel because of people like BRAD PITT and BARACK OBAMA who understands the dignity and freedom that each and everyone of us deserves despite our differences. The time is now to light up a candle for each and every fallen soldiers of this country who did not have a second thought when they went in harmes way to protect our very freedom here in the USA which most of us take it for granted.

WOW, a rich white man helping poor African-Americans. How dare he! He is a socialist, a communist and Anti-American. How dare his wife adopt starving children from other countries? she is Anti-American; she should have adopted American kids.

OK, but you GOPers, what have you done for America? Just because he is a rich white man it doesn't mean his is a criminal, a drug dealer, a political puppet; come on, not everyone is is DICK, RUSH and Georgie Porgie. Oh by the way, how many kids have DICK, and John McCain, and Georgie adopted? How about you tell Sarah P. to stop pumping them out and adopt one of the thousands of orphaned or abandoned Alaskan boys and girls.

Man, so what if he met with them. They are trying to make the world a better place HOW DARE THEY. I guess if everyone decided to help somewhere, somehow, maybe we would be a better country. My wife (who is white, but not rich) gave over 10 years of service to this country and still volunteers at schools and with the Salvation Army HOW DARE SHE, I guess. Stop adoring the Rush way of life and start loving your country.

What souless creatures are you? Just because you've lived selfish depressing lives, don't judge those who trying to be selfless in helping others.

I think the replublicans are very ANGRY!! that a black is president. Their behavior is non other than that and the fact that none of them could actuall say they do not want Obama do failis because they really do want him to feel. Not because they feel his plan will not work they are prejedice replubicans who think that intelligent African Americans can not see the hate that stands out against this black president. We may not write into you blogs and voice it on the media , but we understand clearly why they opposed this mans ideas so strongly and grudgently
