(CNN) –- Actor and sustainable housing advocate Brad Pitt brought his pitch to the nation’s capital Thursday, meeting with President Obama at the White House and Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Capitol Hill.

Watch: Brad Pitt visits Capitol Hill

After a brief stop by the executive mansion to meet with the president and his climate czar, Pitt met with Pelosi in her Capitol office to share details of his charity housing efforts in New Orleans.

One thing’s for sure: policy conferences on the Hill don’t usually pull out a crowd like this.

A throng of giggling fans, mostly female, gathered to catch a glimpse of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" star as he posed for pictures following their meeting.

Pelosi hailed Pitt’s work for the city of New Orleans as a “model for the nation.”

“It really is an honor to have him here and I know for some of my staff, and for bragging rights for my children and grandchildren, a real treat for me as well,” she said.

Pelosi, posing with Pitt and South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn at the congressional photo-op following their meeting, said the actor had been telling her about how the homes his foundation has built built to a "green standard," with utility bills of less than $10 a month.

"It's possible," said Pitt.

The actor’s foundation, "Make it Right," works to construct sustainable housing for low-income residents in New Orleans who lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina. Launched in 2007, Pitt's project focuses on NOLA's Lower Ninth Ward, a region ravaged by the 2005 hurricane. Pitt shares a home in the French Quarter with his girlfriend, actress Angelina Jolie.

“I just want to say thank you to the Speaker for opening up the doors for us to come in and discuss the rebuilding efforts, the current rebuilding efforts going on in New Orleans, and to how we can expand this idea of affordability and sustainability which we think we have a model that works," Pitt said, amid a flurry of camera flashes.

Pitt’s companion Angelina Jolie was also in Washington Thursday, shooting scenes for her upcoming film, “Salt.”

Are Obama and Pitts suppose to be distant cousins?

For all you right-wing christian republican naysayers critisizing about someone doing a good deed for their fellow man, i ask: What Would Jesus Do?

He'd do exactly what Brad Pitt is doing. So shut up.

All actors should pay 99% of their pay in taxes being as they do not really work

Listen up "Americans", where did all this hate come from? All I am reading is "Me", "Me", "Me". Don't you people know that "No Man is an Island", and "No Man Stands Alone". May God help you.

And this is what we get.

American voters should be ashamed of what they have done to the greatest country in world history. We are down the tubes when media stars drive public policy.

  8. Tax Cuts can increase that certain part of tha male body!

Repubs real mad on here right now. Want to know why? Because the only celebreties that they attract are wife beating rednecks and pill popping talk show hosts.

How many green homes has Rush built?

    What's the Republican recovery plan?

    Chirp chirp. Chirp chirp......

  9. Keep the Change

Tell Pitt to go make a movie and leave politics alone. The Hollywood left has done quite enought damage that conservatives will have to repair in the years to come.

I have one thing to say about people who complain about movie stars. They are so quick to condemn them, but you hardly ever hear when they are doing stuff like Pitt is doing.

And look at President Carter and his wife and Habitat for Humanity. I sure as heck don't see any republican movie stars or ex president helping the public. All they are doing is sitting back and trying to make more money for THEMSELVES. But then that's republicans for you their gods are greed and selfishness.

  12. No Respect

Brad Pitt owes the US Government more respect that to meet with them looking as he did. Loosened tie, a shaven mess, a casual stance. Having an opportunity to meet with the Speaker is an honor, and should be treated like one.

For all you whiners and hate mongers posting here, there are actually many people serving America and helping their fellow human beings by actually doing something. Quit whinning and start making a real contribution in some meaningful way please!!!!!!!!!

If George Bush was so dumb, he sure pulled a lot over on you liberal whiners. As for this article, who gives a rats rear that Brad Pitt visited the WH. Don't you folks have anything better to look into like what your so called leader is doing?

Nothing against Pitt. I guess he's doing something better than getting botox or something.

But Pelosi is pretty pathetic - she actually admits to having "bragging rights" with her kids/grandkids about meeting Pitt. Please, Nancy, just try and live up to your promise that there will be "zero" earmarks in the stimulus legislation packages . . . Leave the vain photo opps for another day . . .

I continue to thank Brad Pitt for what's he has been doing in New Orleans. He put $5 million of his own money into the Make it Right and they've been building homes for a while now.

    Have you?

Wow... as always, Brad Pitt is simply eye candy! *LOL* Way handsome... and to be such an advocate for the People! He and Angelina do so much good work.... It is thrilling to see that these so beautiful people are wanted to help... to give back! I love it....

Now where is the head of the Republican Party... doesn't Rushy Boy have some outrageous thing to say about this happening? Seriously.... he is such a sicko.... I can't hardly stand to see him on the news... and NEVER listen to him on the radio! The man is a nut case! :)

It's good to see a "Hollywood Wacko" using his millions to help people that he could completely ignore. Brad Pitt is the kind of person this country needs more of. He's helping others for no other reason than it's the right thing to do. This isn't socialism. It isn't some nefarious (for you Republican conservatives, that means "sneaky") plot to overthrow Rush Limbaugh's view of the world. It's simply being a good person. Wow! What a concept! Looking out for others. And still, there are fools out there that can fault with this kindness.

It must be tremendously sad for all the Haters – whether they be Democrat Haters, Obama Haters, Hollywood Haters, Women Haters, Minority Haters – that show up on this blog only to berate the efforts of someone in the position to help those in need. It must really, really suck to be you (and unfortunately your family as well)...

  21. Yeah for RICH celebrities - spread the wealth

Personally, don't really care what celebrities have to say, HOWEVER, will they still like Obama once they start paying that 39% tax increase that's coming - actually it will be more than that once you throw in the glorious Alternative Minimum Tax.

Why does this guy get the publicity? Because he's involved in housing??? Why isn't the media focusing on the average Joe who volunteers his/her time for similar projects.

DId Nancy get his autograph?? Maybe she can sell it on EBAY to help pay for some of her taxes that she'll eventually be getting from her thousands of dollars government retirement money!

    Hey jealous humps,
Only 1 question: What have any of you done for New Orleans? Crickets chirping. We are interested in Brad the humanitarian. Who has helped the people of St. Benard Co. What has Jingalman done?
Mike rather be helping than turning a 4 to 5 day Blind Bush eye.
Must we forget the TV coverage of American people dying the street and fema waiting till the proper forms are filled out. I guess having people begging for food and water was not enough insentive for the republican goverment.

Wow, a person donates millions of dollars of his own money to help rebuild part of America, and somehow he is a con-man, a toady and a bunch of other names. What rebuilding projects have Rush and Sean Hannity put millions of dollars into?
