Congressional Dems have 'heated' meeting over spending bill

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Senate and House Democratic leaders had what two sources describe as an extremely heated meeting Thursday night about the spending bill.

Once Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid figured out he did not have the votes to pass it, he and Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin went to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office to propose passing a five day resolution to keep the government running, and come back to the $410 billion spending bill next week.

The two Democratic sources say Pelosi reacted with “anger,” arguing that Democrats should instead adopt a “scorched earth” strategy and simply fund the government at last year’s levels through the end of the year. Her point, according to the sources, was that even though Republicans have been slamming the bill as wasteful spending, many of them really have an interest in seeing it passed. This would call their bluff.

One of the sources says Reid and Durbin pushed back, saying the bill increases funding for a lot of Democratic priorities slashed by President Bush, and that it was worth another try. At the end of the tense meeting, Senate Democrats prevailed.

This meeting was first reported by the Politico.

Amazing, isn't it, actually a historical milestone, that we have elevated a mentally retarded woman to Speaker of the House.

Unfortunately, we're doomed with the type of leaders we have running our country. I wish they'd be American's first and Politicans second.

I'm surprised that Empress Pelosi had time to speak to a mere Senator.

Even Palpatine would be afraid of her.

This is great. Nancy is protecting the hard working, informed people, and the uninformed people, from the unwise democratic elected government officials, that were elected into office by the, again, uninformed, uneducated majority that overwhelmingly voted for Democrats for the Senate and Presidency last November, which everyone knows love to waste money, because that is the foundation of a Democratic Party, to spend. In a bad economy, none the less. What have you done, oh uninformed arm chair politicians we call citizens? This is not a football game, the coolest person isn't always right.

You go Pelosi. Give em hell and call their bluff. We won't be in any worse shape if it goes through. Besides, the republicans need to start offering ideas rather that simply whining and playing politics.

CALL THIER BLUFF! YES YES YES!

It is time to grab the wheel, put the foot on the gas and start getting the work of the people done. Voters will let you know in 2, 4, and 8 years if they approve, but until then quit being intimidated by a weak and obstructionist minority and GET ON WITH IT.

I really wish they could get rid of Pelosi as well as Reid. I have never seen such hypocrits in my life! Pelosi is a VERY irresponsible woman and acts as if she is Queen of America. She started it all out insisting she have a big private jet and then she spends money like water on special interests...some of which she and hers profit from and Reid is no better. I think if their is a way to dischair her they should for the sake of this country.

Pelosi needs to quit getting mad at everyone and learn how to work together esp. with her own fellow democrats.

Nancy, Reid is a committed invertabrate. He has never called/will never call a Republican bluff. Unfortunately, his weakness provides more adversirty than support.

Look If these spendomaniacs want to keep wasting money they need to open up the coffers of their own money. I'm sick of financing everyones pet agendas. My god when is it goona stop. How can the Oboma and congress think that it is the will of the people? I'll have eveyone know that Oboma lost the popular vote. I think that congress should be stripped of their personal finances and live like the rest of the nation for awhile to see what life is like at the bottom of the pile. Do we import these people from another planet or what. They just think we are stupid and will buy every lie thats thrown at us. Read my lips stop spending.

Why is the federal government the only entity in America that does not have to operate under the parameters of being able to spend only that which is available.
