Reid should place it to a vote and let the Republicans filibuster while the US Goverment stops paying its bills. The people will rise up against political obstructionism and throw the remaining GOP clowns out.

What a mess. How about a real 3rd party of the independents and moderates from Dems and Republicans? You know, the normal people - then let the fringe wings from the Dems and Republicans just stew in their own juices.

I’m afraid we’re in for a long and drawn out recession/depression. Our government has been doing whatever it takes to prevent a recession since Sept 11 and it’s been going on for too long. Periodic recessions are healthy in order to sustain continued economic growth. It’s similar to earthquakes, it’s better to have small tremors occasionally than none at all and finally having the big one.

Having said that, it’s my feeling that now that the democrats control both houses, they aren’t thinking about the real costs of the spending package. They only know that now that they have full control, they want to accomplish all they can. before they lose full control again. It’s a very selfish agenda putting their ideology before the economy and their country.

I think if Americans could recast their votes knowing what they know now, Obama would still be a Senator. I’m a republican but I voted for McCain as a vote against Obama. I hope and pray that Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich run for President in 2012. I would also like to see an equal balance of power of republicans and democrats in both houses the next time around.

It makes no sense to me that common sense is mysteriously absent. Instead, everything is ideologically driven, whether Republican or Democrat. We don't need misguided ideologies, we need solid business fundamentals. Strengthen the business community by lowering restrictions, tax burdens, and giving incentives to invest. We need a resumption of personal responsibility, and accountability, not depending on governement. This is a great nation, it should remain that way. This isn't the change we voted for. Let's see some campaign promises adhered to, not just from the president, but from all our elected officials. Protect and defend the constitution, defend liberty.

Why doesn't everybody take responsibility for what they do and live with the consequences of their decisions. Quit waiting for somone to bail you out. The only ones that should be getting government help but probably get the least of it is our service men and women who sacrifice so much for us so that we can moan and bicker about who is doing the right thing.

Why have so many of you forgotten one VERY IMPORTANT THING!
The democrats left us in the black with a good economy and NO war. The Republicans ran this country completely for 6 years and 2 more with BUSH. What did the do, let me see. Left our economy in a shambles, cost millions of Americans job less, invaded a country that had NOTHING to do with 911, allowed outsoucing, created so called fair trade (HA), no action on health, let the oil companies shaft us, made all CEO's super rich, Let Wall street run rampant, etc etc etc etc etc, Good God the list is endless. BUT now they want to run things because they know the best way. What we need is to let Obama do his thing because someone finally cares and throw out the Republicans who fight him and ALSO the Democrats who fight him because Congress has showed they are STUPID and GREEDY and only want more POWER to do more of NOTHING., Pelosi certainly should go also. Signed.............Independent for a third party. Why because neither current party can think in thirds.

Pelosi is nothing more than a vengeful political animal. Obama has no chance of bipartisanship with this egomaniac at the wheel. The satisfaction of righting the ship hasn't a chance when all she thinks about is paybacks.

The fraud in the White House, Pelosi, Reid - all of them are going to get their comeuppance within the next two years. Either this paraphlegic bill, certainly NOT stimulus is going to backfire and hurt the average citizen, or we will face, thanks to fraud's appeasement policies, a MAJOR terrorist attack on America, or both, and all hell is going to pay!

Does this really surprise anyone? Politicians are not focused on doing what is best for the country, they focus on getting what they want and which makes them look good. In other words think a small child that has learned if it kisses up to the parents most of the time, and then cry when it doesn't get its way, then it always gets its way.

As for the economy there are a number of issues. And while President Obama certainly is not only to blame he does share responsibility. He, and his administration, have taken a number of steps to emphasize the threats to the economy. Many of these statements are factually inaccurate or focus on the worst case scenario rather than facts which exist. As any good economist knows, a lot of market reaction is herd mentality. When you inspire fear or panic in consumers it is virtually certain markets will react negatively. Combine this with the fact that most of the "supportive" measures they have taken have been wholly lacking in substance (just look at Geither's press conference and the market reaction).

When consumers are told that the economy is in its darkest period ever, and there is no end in sight, a natural response is flight. In the larger market this includes reduced spending and more conservative economic actions. In turn businesses project this reduction out to approximate its impact on their operations and reduce accordingly, including layoffs. This ripple effect impacts all market factors and creates its own momentum. Thus while the economic crises was initially overseen by political individuals no longer in office, it has been strengthened and continued by the current administration.

I could go on for pages providing evidence and support, but really all that needs to be done is look at the trends related to government statements and markets (i.e. stock/consumer confidence/layoffs/etc.)

As for the truth of the President utilizing these factors to push a socialist agenda he would otherwise be unable to get through, I personally believe that but it is not material to this discussion.

Nazi Pelosi is missing more than a few marbles. But I agree (but not to call anyone's "bluff") that they should keep last years budget. This stuff is moving way to fast. Somebody needs to put on the brakes and talk this over. Pull out all pork and do the responsible thing for the country. Real change would be to put country before party. How long has it been since that has happened?

The way this country is going and the way Congress is acting is a sure formula for an American Revolution! With foolish ear marks being pushed down our throats, bailing out irresponsible self centered CEOs, while unemployment hits a 25 year high, and retirees losing value in their retirement funds I am beginning to think it will not be long before Americans say "ENOUGH" and walk on Washington. It isn't going to be pretty when the National Guard is called out to keep order while citizens are yelling to fire Congress and demand a new election!

Block the Bill, Prevent the Pork

I don't care what the Republicans did or did not do when Bush was the president. I don't care what they did when the held the senate or the house. I don't care what the Democrats did for for the past several years.

All I care is that the BS stop now! Our Senators and Congress need to stop wasting out money. We worked hard for the money that was taxed. Now I want them to spend our taxes wisely.

As an Independent I still think that at least one of the three branches needs to be from the opposite party so let's get the GOP in the house and we will be sure to knock Pelisi of her seat... Pelosi stop spending my money!!!!

I would be upset too like Ms. Pelosi. The 'pork' is both from the Dems and Repubs and this bill has slightly less earmarks than during the Bush administration. Let's move on and stop the bleeding.

I REALLY WISH THE REPUBLICANS WOULD STOP UNDERMINING THE PRESIDENT SO THAT WE CAN GET OUR COUNTRY BACK ON TRACK! NOTE TO THE REPUBLICANS: I, AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, DO NOT AND WILL NOT EVER FIND YOU TO BE THE SOLUTION ONLY THE PROBLEM! WE SUPPORT OUR PRESIDENT AND YOUR TACTICS WILL NOT WORK IN TRYING TO GET US TO HATE THE DEMOCRATS!!! YOU GOT US INTO THIS MESS. YOU HAVE NO SOLUTIONS! GET OUT OF AMERICA AND LET THE REST OF US REBUILD OUR GREAT COUNTRY!!!

A wise man once said...

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

“To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”

“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”

“My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.”

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

I thought the last 8 years were bad. President Obama and Speaker of the House Pelosi have done more to ruin our nation, domestically and internationally in the past month and a half than Bush did in his two terms.
Democrats should be just as ashamed as Republicans over what both parties have been sending to Washington. Yes, there are good people in both parties but the rotten apples are terrible.
Join the 25,000,000 people who have changed their vote on President Obama. If the elections were held today, President Obama would be somewhere below Ralph Nader. He took a bad situation and actually made it worse.

Right on, Sue. When do men who are angry get this kind of media treatment? Have we ever read that "he has quite the temper if things don't go his way"?

This is likely a republican-triggered psych-op media attack on Pelosi's public approval poll ratings. Yes, the current repigglium regime would stoop that low. Bush loyalists. They are the shrill echos of the last 8 failed years who have yet to face their own constituents for re-election in the Obama era. And they'll likely be replaced by republicans who want to play ball with Obama. Then maybe we can see some real change. Yes, we all can.

I hope we all look at the actions of congressional leaders like Nancy Pelosi and get them out of office. Even thought I am a Democrat, I think her partisan political style is a significant contributing factor to ineffective government. How did she end up as Speaker of the House?

When I have a disagreement with someone in the workplace, we discuss and try to find common ground for the good of the company so we can move forward - I wish she operated the same way.

To people who truly object to taxation of the rich. They really need to look at other countries and how they truly provide freedom for everyone, even with high taxes.

Just looking at education, if we taxed people who made over 500,000, and funded education in inner cities to the point where it was the best education in the world. You will eventually get your money back with less people going to prison, and less people relying on the wellfare system.

If you dont tax the wealthy, then more people will go to prison, more people will vulch off the system, and you will end up paying more in the future.

Its an investment for the future, there are millions of examples of this working, the trickle down effect never works.

Please, do not be short sighted, look to the future and let the democrats have a shot at doing long term investments.
