McCain's tweet not sitting well with one newspaper

WASHINGTON (CNN) – A South Carolina newspaper isn’t too happy with what John McCain’s been Twittering.

McCain has been using the microblogging site to post a near-daily list of the “10 Porkiest projects” in the omnibus spending bill. On Wednesday, the Arizona senator posted “#6. $950,000 for a Convention Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.”

The Myrtle Beach Sun News editorialized Friday that McCain is using the site “to make congressional earmarks a political wedge issue for the Republicans” by posting such earmarks without context.

The paper wrote that “readers of McCain's Convention Center tweet are now invited to think - without the inconvenience of critical reflection - that the Myrtle Beach Convention Center project has no value.”

The editorial argued instead that the convention center project has the potential to create long-term wealth and jobs in the coastal resort city.

“The irony in all this,” the paper wrote, is that the earmark was inserted into the spending bill by one of McCain’s closest friends: South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham.

The building of a convention center in a city that relies on tourism and conventions is not a pork barrel project. If McCain wants to point out true pork barrel projects then he needs to focus on some other projects, like blueberry research by Saxby Chambliss and that infamous bridge to nowhere.

What I really want to know is who is the staffer in his Senate office that is using Twitter, because we all know McCain isn't doing it.

    Big John,

That convention center will help the United States, because it will supply alot of jobs for the state of South Carolina which effects not only their overall job numbers, but the overall job numbers for the country as well. It's really no different than the State of Georgia potentially using its stimulus money to build the new international terminal at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. It will supply alot of jobs for the state of Georgia which in turn helps the country.

Once again Republicans send the message: We are only interested in working like upset schoolboys; we are not interested in working together. We want to make the other team look so bad before the game, that maybe we can win by default.

This is the problem.....The Repubs label something as pork before they even know what the project is....McCain thinks by running his mouth he is going to be thought of as the "watchdog" of the American people. Well, Sen McCain the American people told you what they thought of you in November............Maybe you should discuss a project in your buddy Lindsey's home state with him before you shoot off your mouth............

Good Job! McCain. Convention Centers and such like can wait for prosperity to return, then they won't need federal dollars.

McCain is a jerk. Just because you're a POW, doesn't automatically make you a good, honest and intelligent person. He was horrible to his first wife. He is a hypocrit and a mean spirited person. Thank God he isn't our president.

McCain is right this time, and I am an ardent Obama supporter. McCain and other Senators need to camp out, sleeping bags and all in front of the Capitol, set up a BBQ roast some hog meat and fight to kill the omnihog bill. Don't just vote NO, stand in front of this and stop it.

We have heard illustrious senators go on in front of cameras all week about the pork spending in the Omnibus Budget Bill (that they drafted in 08) and I haven't heard one of them step up and offer to line out their State's porky projects. If they are really serious, then why don't they all spend a day and line out their pork for their State. Then vote on the bill. That's where I was expecting to see real leadership - what are they willing to do but get in front of cameras and complain. I'm sure President Obama wouldn't mind a bit if the senators line off the pork before sending it over to the White House to sign.

As usual- Republicans throw around the evil word "pork" and never stop to aknowledge that most Pork is necessary projects for state and local governments. At first look, you think a convention center? But yes a convention center- that through its constructions puts people to work, and through its existent puts people to work, and brings money into the that particular area of the state.
People really need to stop nit picking all of this to no end and just stop and think about these things. Follow each project down the line in regards to the potential it gives to the area in which it effects.
Then think about Missouri- and that bridge collapse- if President Bush had not had slashed infrastructure funding and pushed all of our money into war and no bid contracts- maybe just maybe the money would have been given (via pork in a spending bill) to the state so that they could have fixed that bridge and prevented the tragedy all together.
Pork is NECESSARY , stop being narrowminded, arrogrant, self centered people and just THINK!

McCain is NO leader. Has NO character. And is only using his position to attempt to serve his self-centered wishes. Both he and his best bud, Lindsey Graham are totally irrelevant, and I think both Az and SC are tired of both of them.

@ Larry who said "Promoting Astrology in Hawaii earmark"
    ---

Typical Republican who doesnt read the actual bill.
    Its 'Astronomy' not 'Astrology"
    The difference:

Astronomy is a Science that encourages kids to become scientists, engineers, astronomers, pilots, astronauts and a future in space as well as detecting and protecting the earth from errant asteroids, etc

Astrology is something Nancy Reagan guided Ronnie with ;)
