(CNN) - Minnesota's high court has denied Democrat Al Franken's request to force the state to issue a certification of election results in the U.S. Senate race while the case continues to be appealed.
Franken currently holds a 225-vote lead over Republican Norm Coleman, who has filed suit over his allegation that some valid absentee ballots may not have been counted. The state’s governor, Republican Tim Pawlenty, and Democratic Secretary of State Mark Ritchie have both said that they will not sign a certification of that election that would make the current count official until that lawsuit is resolved.
The decision means the trial, now wrapping its sixth week of testimony, will continue uninterrupted.
In a statement, Coleman spokesman Ben Ginsberg called the ruling “a victory for Minnesota Law and Minnesotans.”
“This wise ruling will ensure that Harry Reid, Al Franken and Chuck Schumer cannot short-circuit Minnesota Law in their partisan power play,” Ginseberg added.
A spokeswoman for Franken did not immediately respond for a request for response.
Too Bad Franken You Crook.
The guy is a crook.
They need to have a new election in Minnesota.
Everyone who votes should be counted, must show ID, must be registered, and do as the do in IRAQ, they vote once and they
dip their left thumb in purple ink that lasts a week.
Crooks in Minnesota.
More people voted than are registered.
And they wont count the votes of Servicemen.
Crooks.
If Al Frankin would have just accepted the vote count on election night there wouldn't be a story here !
I am so sick of democrats saying bush lost the 2000 election and comparing this to that election. BUSH WON IN 2000 BECAUSE PRESIDENTS ARE ELECTED BY ELECTORAL VOTES, NOT POPULAR VOTE!!!!!! Got that you idiots??? As for Freaken Al, it just seems strange after Coleman winning the first time around and then the second time around very odd that so many votes came out of nowhere for Freaken Al. He is just another idiot that wants to join the idiot dems that are already in Washington. What a mess This country is going to be in. Sure didn't take Obama long to foul up. Al would fit right along with the mindset in Washington already.
Perfect example of Republican drive to steal elections! Really.. come on... this is too stupid!
This is riduculous Coleman end this thing. Please ! You lost!
Scott: It's not a "stupid tie!"
Geez, get out the calculator, buddy! At the end of Super Bowl XLIII, Pittsburgh was up by only 4 over Arizona.
Was that a tie?!?!?!?!?!?
People have given their lives for the right to vote ... next time, catch a clue before you start typing nonsense!
REPUBLICANS SUCK UP YOUR LOST LIKE GORE DID AND STOP USING UP THE TAXPAYERS MONEY!
Funny how all those liberal crybabies went on and on about hanging chads and making sure every vote counted some years back.... now I guess the point is that in only certain circumstances should every vote count. Yikes.... look how fast this country is falling apart now that osama has taken control... yeah, just what we need another liberal in the senate to ensure our downfall.
Did I read that right? Coleman just accused the Democrats of participating in a partisan power play? While I agree with that statement, it takes some chutzpah for Coleman and the Republicans to say that, considering that they are doing the exact same thing.
Hypocrites.
The next time a Republican stands up and say "
The next time a republican stands up and says "God Bless America"
somebody please knock him or her down. "Smack"" God does not
condone Sin.
It's the Republican way... if you can't win, take 'em to court. Happened in 2000 and look at where our country is now... and sorry as much as you right-wing nutjobs out there want to blame Democrats and Obama, between 2000 and now, 6 of those 8 years, Congress was controlled by Republicans and all 8 of those years, the Executive branch was controlled by Republicans. So before you folks start with the revisionist history about how the Democrats in Congress messed things up, etc... etc... 3/4 of the wonderful Bush years, Republicans had all the power, so put blame where it should go.
yes !!! keep this fool away and send him back to holly wood nuts jobs who will sell out this country out
why have a second senator from Minn.
give the other senator two votes and send both cry babies home
Can this thing finally end? Coleman lost in the recount, he needs to go home and stay there. Minnesota needs both Senators in Washington. The recount was required by law and completed under a panel of both Republican and Democrat judges. Coleman lost, enough!
And you thought the State of Illinois was stupid?
The absentee ballots that Coleman wants counted are the same ones Coleman said he didn't want counted until Al Franken pulled out ahead of him. These are absentee ballots that have been reviewed three times now. Each of these absentee ballots reviewed have been deemed illegal. Each of these absentee ballots will be illegal no matter how many times Coleman drags them into court insisting that they be counted. A re-vote won't accomplish anything. The ballots being contested are fradulent absentee ballots. Even with a re-vote, Coleman will still lose, especially now that Bachmann has found her voice again.
Dont worry Al,just keep giving them rope.Coleman is giving Senator Franken his vacation up front, how nice.
The Republicans are only delaying the inevitable, they LOST nationally and locally! This is politics at its worst.
As I tell my students daily - America is about fairness. Screw the Republicans and get a A!
