(CNN) - President Obama on Friday touted the benefits of his economic recovery plan at a police cadet graduation made possible as a result of the recently passed $787 billion stimulus package.
"We've got big challenges ahead of us," Obama said at the ceremony for 25 new Columbus, Ohio police officers.
But the stimulus plan would facilitate an economic recovery, he said, in part by helping support workers in law enforcement, teaching and other public sector professions.

"Because of this plan, stories like the one we're celebrating here in Columbus will soon take place all across this nation," the president said as he announced the distribution of $2 billion in new law enforcement grants from the stimulus package.
The graduating cadets were informed at the end of January that they would be laid off because of a shortfall in the city's budget, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman said.

Instead, stocks are tanking, people are hoarding what little cash they have left, and the Obama Depression grows more ominous each and every day.

Steve, let me explain to you how economics works – when people have jobs, they spend money and create tax revenue. Yes, this may only be 25 but when all of the infrastructure jobs created under this stimulus bill kick in (and the vast majority of economists say that the bill did not spend enough), more people working creates more spending which creates more tax revenue.

Great, he created 25 jobs for 1 year. then where does the money come from? This is really forward thinking. Instead of investing in businesses that can sustain jobs for the long term, his spending program pays for jobs for short term projects. What do we do next year, have another $1.75 trillion dollar deficit?

I hope that the stimulus package will help kick the economy in gear, but I have doubts that it can work. We need some basic rules changes on how all companies do business, and how trading is conducted.

Has anyone that hates the stimulus bill every researched the multiplier effect?
When these 25 officers start getting a paycheck they will spend it on housing, food etc. That, in turn, will cause other people to have jobs. It is not a hard concept to grasp, but when you are too busy listening to the talking heads you have no time to do your own research.
If unemployment is rising, is it really job creation?
