Obama touts job creation from stimulus plan

President Obama says his stimulus plan will spur job creation.

President Obama says his stimulus plan will spur job creation.

(CNN) - President Obama on Friday touted the benefits of his economic recovery plan at a police cadet graduation made possible as a result of the recently passed $787 billion stimulus package.

"We've got big challenges ahead of us," Obama said at the ceremony for 25 new Columbus, Ohio police officers.

But the stimulus plan would facilitate an economic recovery, he said, in part by helping support workers in law enforcement, teaching and other public sector professions.

"Because of this plan, stories like the one we're celebrating here in Columbus will soon take place all across this nation," the president said as he announced the distribution of $2 billion in new law enforcement grants from the stimulus package.

The graduating cadets were informed at the end of January that they would be laid off because of a shortfall in the city's budget, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman said.

Fire houses in some areas of NYC have had to shut down at certain times because of Bush. NYC, you know, the place with W's hole? The one he promised to fill with hope. If Obama can start jobs in the public service sector, God bless him. We need more police and fire fighters. Next we need to pay them and soldiers what their worth to society.

President Obama delivers just like he said he would. Cable TV shows, especially Morning Joe, are spreading gloom and doom about our country.
The President has been spreading doom and gloom.....even Clinton said he needs to get more positive.

  12. Nathan,

    This is for "still hoping"

You bumbling moron. You set around for 8 years while that incompetent Bush ruined a surplus and created the biggest deficits this country had ever seen. Whats the difference between tax and spend and borrow and spend if your issue is deficits. If that idiot Bush with the backing of uneducated nuts like you had nor squandered the surplus Clinton left us we would not have to spend as much to get out of this economic downturn. If we had saved the surplus instead of alowing Bush to give it away to the wealthy wiht his stupid tax cuts which didn't produce anything but increased million dolar home sales and luxury we would have had something to fall back on.

I am sick of you conservative republican morons acting as if the last 8 years didn't happen. If anyone is an idiot its the likes of you and everyone else who can't see that the unregulated business coupled with greed and a lack of caring for all Americans is what got us into this mess.

Jon, if he is the President and you are jobless who is the losser? Bush damage is yet to be arrested. These next few months of Job loss will be the work of the W. 25 jobs in 30 days is more then Bush created in his last 365. Even Rush thinks Obama is The One.

At this rate, Obama will have created 1,200 jobs by the end of his first term. Yeah, Libs are such over achievers.

Negativity negativity negativity. in this year of hope, i would have expected more patience out of the American people. this man is not a messiah, he isn't a genie that will just snap his fingers and create jobs. all the people out there labeling this man an idiot, and attempting to cast blame are no different than the Karl Rove's of the world. This man has put smart people into his cabinet, he has added a daily economic briefing to his already packed schedule (** side note ** Bush never had an economic briefing during his 8 year term. Maybe he should have paid more attention.) He is obviously giving his best efforts with respect to vast array of issues that no president before him has had to deal with all at once. give it time... the past 8 years did happen, and it may take 8 to get back to par. let's not judge this man on 45 days. Good luck President Obama...

Scoffing at 25 jobs or even one is pretty arrogant, David. I'm guessing that you are still employed. I took 8 years for the GOP to bring us to this point. It's likely to take longer than 6 weeks to restore economic stability but 25 jobs is at least a move in the right direction.

People are still losing jobs. Every job that is saved is pretty important. When I was a kid, nobody in our house scoffed at beans and cornbread. We were grateful to have a meal because we were aware that some people didn't. Shame on the arrogance and shame on the effort to undermine the new president. Our problems are too big for that luxury so my advice is: grow up.

Still hoping.....for goodness sakes, been there, done that. Buisnesses have recorded nice profits during that time, yet salaries have remained stagnant. Which is a part of the problem. Everything has risen in the past decade except salaries. All the while, CEO's are clearing 10 million plus in salaries and bonuses.

Now, I'm all for everyone making their money, but at what point do we say enough? At what point do we continue to give tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas, that hire illegals, that do everything except look out for their employees?

BTW, you do know that in Obama's plan, companies that keep jobs here will get a tax break, right? You also know that by following other incentives, they can relieve that burdensome tax rate they are getting right? And you know all of this because you actually paid attention when he said this and thru the various plans on the table, right?

    Of course not.....

Those February job losses were due to the policies of George W. Bush and Republicans. Had nothing to do with Obama. His policies weren't even started yet.

Jon in CA – He is doing better than W did. Please check into what W did in his first 30 days.

It must be true that all Republicans want our President and OUR COUNTRY to fail. Why else would anyone complain about putting more police officers to work protecting Americans?!?!

I would like to see ONE person that knows the solution to this problem, JUST ONE!!!!! There are NONE, people are just pointing fingers at the people they dont like. Good luck with trying to get Iraqis to get along, we cant event get along here in the USA, a bunch of finger pointing cry babies is what our so called leaders have become with no solutions but to blame the other guy. How exactly do we get out of this mess???? Kudos to the people that step up to take ownership of something broken and trying to fix it. If you dont like the way the country is being run, then, run for office yourself and I bet your tune will change QUICKLY!!! If you are not willing to run for office then STOP running your MOUTH!!!!!!
