Obama touts job creation from stimulus plan

President Obama says his stimulus plan will spur job creation.
President Obama says his stimulus plan will spur job creation.

(CNN) - President Obama on Friday touted the benefits of his economic recovery plan at a police cadet graduation made possible as a result of the recently passed $787 billion stimulus package.

"We've got big challenges ahead of us," Obama said at the ceremony for 25 new Columbus, Ohio police officers.

But the stimulus plan would facilitate an economic recovery, he said, in part by helping support workers in law enforcement, teaching and other public sector professions.

"Because of this plan, stories like the one we're celebrating here in Columbus will soon take place all across this nation," the president said as he announced the distribution of $2 billion in new law enforcement grants from the stimulus package.

The graduating cadets were informed at the end of January that they would be laid off because of a shortfall in the city's budget, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman said.

If by bold action he means taxing, spending ($Trillion) and socialism, he can stick all those bold actions in a dark place on his anatomy.

obama is nothing but a left wing redical socialist who is bankrupting my grandchildren and they are not even born yet.

I am furious at our government

The Dems are going to clean up your mess…

Yep, the Dems will clean their sidewalk and dump the mess on everyone else. That is their idea of cleaning it up.

This teleprompter president has no clue. Yes, other presidents have used a teleprompter but only for major speeches. Obama can't even announce a nominee for a cabinet position without a teleprompter. He can't go to question and answer session without an earpiece so his advisors can give him an answer.

I'd just like to know how many jobs were "unsaved" by the cost of flying the "private jet" from DC to Columbus, Ohio.

I think we are now in the 2nd term of the Carter Administation. It's going to be a very long 4 years. All of a sudden GWB doesn't look so inept.

This crisis is not Obama's fault and it won't be stopped overnight. Give the man a break. Give his plan time to work. My God he just signed the bill a few weeks ago. Wall Street was crashing when Bush was in office and it's going to take time to level out. These job losses are not a result of President Obama, HE'S ONLY BEEN IN OFFICE SINCE JAN 20TH. THAT'S NOT EVEN 2 MONTHS! Lighten up, at least we have a President who is trying to do something. Not a lame duck like Bush was.

To answer your question: yes I do complain and yes my family does volunteer and have for many years.

However, we do the volunteering at animal shelters. Those four legged critters are so much more grateful than those two legged critters (humans in case you didn't get) An example would be the Katrina victims that came here to Houston.

So, just because we complain and don't care for Obama does in no way mean we don't care for our community. Not a good thing to lump everyone together just because they don't agree with you.

Ummm, maybe you guys missed the part about any stimulus spending must be temporary. In other words, putting 25 cops on the street for a year, and hopefully some of this mess will be turned around enough for them to pay the cops outta their own pockets.

By you guys' own twisted logic, giving tax breaks for a year means that any jobs created by that tax break will have to be sustained indefinately, or some company won't be able to pay that new employee after the 1st year. So why then give tax breaks again?

Highest unemployment in 25 years, fastest drop on Wall Street in our history. Spends taxpayer money faster than a speeding bullet and the only other thing he does is ride in Air Force 1. CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN. What a waste as the supposed to be commander in chief.

Funny all the folks complaining...this path was set starting with St. Reagan and his mythical "trickle down economics". Job creating was high under clinton and cratered during the bush years. You whiners expect President Obama to dig us out of the deepest hole we've been in in over 40 years in 6 weeks. Get real. bush facillitated this whole mess – and it took him 8 years to screw us this badly. It's certainly going to take more than 6 weeks to dig us out.

Let's not forget about the approximately 6,000 new construction jobs created by shovel ready infrastructure jobs that have been funded by the stimulus. Did you expect him to go to each of those job sites and make a speech? No, he chose a graduation ceremony for some very important jobs, police officers.

A lot of you really need to read the book 'Tear Down This Myth' and find out about the truth behind the Reagan years. After giving a lot of tax cuts to the rich and corporations, the very next year he had to reverse those because the economy started to tank . . . hmm, that sounds familiar . . . give the rich and corporations tax cuts and watch the economy tank. At least Reagan was smart enough to recognize a mistake and correct it, unlike shrub and the Republicans over the last 8 years. They just figured that they hadn't given them enough so they gave them more and look where that got us.

For the amount of money it cost for Pres Obama to take his "nifty ride" to this graduation, we could have hired a few more people. He will do anything to tout his plan. This is insane!

Too bad the stimulus 1 part stimulus 5 parts advancing a social agenda. The stock market has Obama pegged for the socialist liar he is. "I'll go through the budget line by line and cut out the wasteful spending" He must have meant he will increase wasteful spending line by line.

The good news about Barry's spending priorities is the he will be out in 4 years.

Yes, I am out there helping those who are less fortunate. My family and I have been doing it for years. I am a conservative, but that doesn't mean I'm heartless. I just don't want my tax money being wasted by a bunch o f politicians who do nothing but waste vast amounts of money on stupid ideas that don't work.

Ok, for all of you nitwits out there, you can create a whole lot of government jobs, but you have to have people in the private sector that creates wealth to pay these people. It is as simple as that.

Obama will one day have to conclude that socialism will not nor does not work. He is a radical that needs to be removed from office before the country is totally destroyed.

Do he ever not? Matthew, you need a teleprompter! What type of English is that? Are you Black or just Southern? Anyway, as a tax payer I am glad I can help the people of Ohio keep their police force going, and in a year when the economy is stronger because the cops have been paying taxes what looks like a short term fix will be seen as a job saver.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

Also, if you are so against this scary scary socialism and you live in a town with a population less than 5,000 then NEVER USE ELECTRICITY AGAIN.

The ONLY reason why you have AN ELECTRICAL GRID in RURAL AREAS is because of SOCIALISM.

Blue States are forced to pay WAY more in than we get out so that some company in a Red State can put up 100 miles of power lines between your hovels and the next hamlet.

Be THANKFUL for socialism and FDR otherwise you'd still be living like a 3rd world peasant.
