Obama touts job creation from stimulus plan

President Obama says his stimulus plan will spur job creation.
President Obama says his stimulus plan will spur job creation.

(CNN) - President Obama on Friday touted the benefits of his economic recovery plan at a police cadet graduation made possible as a result of the recently passed $787 billion stimulus package.

"We've got big challenges ahead of us," Obama said at the ceremony for 25 new Columbus, Ohio police officers.

But the stimulus plan would facilitate an economic recovery, he said, in part by helping support workers in law enforcement, teaching and other public sector professions.

Watch: The politics behind the unemployment figures

"Because of this plan, stories like the one we're celebrating here in Columbus will soon take place all across this nation," the president said as he announced the distribution of $2 billion in new law enforcement grants from the stimulus package.

The graduating cadets were informed at the end of January that they would be laid off because of a shortfall in the city's budget, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman said.

    @Linda from Minnesota
so how many people on this blog went and volunteered or did not complain when GWB was president?

For 6 years under GWB he created jobs and not until the dimocrats took over congress did things go bad. And GWB inherited one of the biggest blunders of any president ever when clinton relaxed the requirements to get a loan and started this whole housing bubble that burst on us.

So where were you and others when GWB tried to put regulation into Fannie and Freddie to try and stop the housing bubble and was defeated mainly by the dimocratic vote?

Blame GWB for an il advised war, but if you have to blame anyone for the economy, look to clinton and now obama and Pelosi and Reid and a democratic congress.

I think that GOPers are smoking the wacky tobaccy.

It's the only way to explain their short term memory loss of the last 8 years.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.
The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage."
    – Alexander Tyler (emphasis added)

So that's why obama got elected.

Get this straight democrats...you, yourselves, called Bush a "lame duck" throughout 2007 and 2008 as the economy was under the total control of Pelosi and Reed. Bush probably should have vetoed everything they sent ot him, but he didnt. That's his only error in judgment. Pelosi and Reed created this mess which was even further fueled by the Obama campaign's ceaseless vendetta against Bush and "change we can believe in".

Well, folks, he's here now, and yes, we are certainly seeing change like we've never seen before. This is 100% a democrat mess. But to fix it, all they need do is pay attention to the lessons of history and implement strategies similar to Reagan's which gave government (and wealth) BACK to Americans who could fuel the economy. The so called "rich" that you democrats hate so much are everyday Americans, those whose 401k's are disappearing before their eyes. They are hoarding what remains of any liquidity they might still have because the future appears bleak at best.

Socialism is NOT the answer.... unless you want to give up every shred of freedom we've ever had.

Since the market takes a dump everytime BHO speaks in public maybe he should try an entire week without a public appearance. If the market goes up then we know BHO was not the change we can believe in but spare change.

It is amazing to watch Obama sit back and watch the markets crater in total rejection of his policies and he is out politicking.

That's the problem with idiots like you Petey.
You are so foolish as to believe that the recent downturn is Obama's fault.
It's the continuing spiral of the Nazi Bushleague.
It's China changing their minds about their own stimulus package.
It's the global state of affairs and the fact that our president will NOT play ball with the Wall street cronies on their terms.
When Obama's policies DO start to earn dividends you'll change your tune fast enough.

    Letter from the Boss,

As the CFO of this business that employs 140 people, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barrack Obama is our President, and that our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way. To compensate for these increases, I figure that the Clients will have to see an increase in our fees to them of about 8% but since we cannot increase our fees right now due to the dismal state of our economy, we will have to lay off six of our employees instead. This has really been eating at me for a while, as we believe we are family here and I didn't know how to choose who will have to go.

So, this is what I did: I strolled through our parking lot and found 8 Obama bumper stickers on our employees' cars and have decided these folks will be the first to be laid off. I can't think of a more fair way to approach this problem. These folks wanted change; I gave it to them. If you have a better idea, let me know.

    Sincerely,
    The Boss

The stimulus bill had 300 billion in tax cuts. But, government spending has to be part of any stimulus. With consumers and businesses not spending- a mutually reinforcing process– and the worldwide nature of the recession/depression ensuring that we won't have an export-driven recovery, government participation in the economy is the only way to break the downward spiral. Since we are using all of our monetary tools in combating the financial crisis, we have to use government fiscal policy. The alternative will be far worse than a large budget deficit.

This is some of the most shameless, divisive, demogogary I have seen from ANY politician. First off Obama takes money from federal tax payers and funds a local police department. Then he pats himself on the back for "creating" jobs. Then he goes on to cite this as proof that his $8 billion porkulous plan is a success. Then he implies anyone who disagreed with his $8 billion porkulous plan hates police officers (and small children of course).

This is shameful stuff from someone looking to demonize anyone with a legit argument against his reckless spending.
Hey Obama, maybe local government should pay for local programs? I know our founding fathers mulled that topic over.
Hey Obama, maybe there is more than just law and order funding that people take issue with in your porkulous package, like that elevated train to Harry Reid's backyard?
Hey Obama, maybe these wonderful public sector jobs you "created" will be offset by private sector job losses, due to the higher taxes that businesses will face in the future?
Hey Obama, maybe we don't want to live in a society where jobs are doled out by you and your cabal to particular groups that happen to kiss your ring?

I don't know what is worse. The fact that some people buy into this rhetoric or the fact that Obama thinks American's are stupid enough to buy into it.

For those of you that are talking about Obama's teleprompter, there is an article in the Orlando Sentinel today. It says that Obama uses a teleprompter more than any president has, Is this surprising when he has absoulutely no experience? He is given what to read and told what to say. Wake up people we tried to tell you this before you voted for him. The sheeple would not listen. Pelosi and Reid are running this country. Obama is a permanent campaigner. He just keeps fooling you people.

The only problem with THIS job stimulus for these guys is that they will be unemployed in 2010 because Columbus doesn't have th money to PAY them.

    Stop complaining!
Here is the only question that matters:
What can "I" do to make the something I can influence better today? Depending on your circumstances, that may not appear to be much, but together it would make a huge difference.
How can I bless someone today?
