In 2007, Annette Nazareth was serving at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - A leading contender to serve as the top deputy to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is no longer under consideration for the post, as 17 top jobs at the department remain unfilled in the middle of the financial crisis.

Annette Nazareth, a former top official at the Securities and Exchange Commission, was being considered for the prestigious post of Deputy Treasury Secretary but is no longer in the running, according to an official familiar with the matter.

While Nazareth was never formally nominated for the job, she did have interviews for the post and a background search was being conducted. But the official stressed that this "was not a vetting issue," such as the tax matters that tripped up nominees such as Tom Daschle and Nancy Killefer.

Nevertheless, the development could be a blow to Geithner as he struggles to deal with the financial crisis at a time when 17 top jobs beneath him remain unfilled at the mammoth agency.

More than likely does not pay her taxes – it will be sad, but fun to watch the BO Adm to go down the tubes by fall.

"as 17 top jobs at the department remain unfilled in the middle of the financial crisis." How does the rate of filling jobs in this Administration comapre with what Bush did? Is it misleading to imply that Obama has been slow to do this? Six weeks!!!

Good lord, this broad has "crazy eyes."

It is my esteemed opinion (thank you Owl of the Hundred Acre Wood), than anyone with too large a proportion of pupil to iris is certifiably batsh!t crazy and someone away from whom one should likely steer a very wide path. Very wide. And God forbid you should date them... think "boiling bunny."

No matter how much this President's leadership declines we the people must stick together not let things fall apart.

They should pluck a few Blue Dog members of congress out of the House and put them in those post. Or better yet select from the World Bank and go international on the GOP. All of this while the GOP is trying to figure out who is in charge. Operation Chaos is going swimmingly!

This is just great. While Obama is running around the country bragging about a few new low paying government and construction jobs, the unempolyment rate continues to go up. He is ignoring the private sector business world where the majority of us work. And his major point man in getting the business world fixed can't even seem the fully staff the help he needs. This economy won't recover until the private business sector is helped. There is no stimulus or leadership for the business world comming from Obama, just more government.

WASHINGTON, March 4 (Reuters) – U.S. oil and natural gas producing companies should not receive federal subsidies in the form of tax breaks because their businesses contribute to global warming, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told Congress on Wednesday.

It was one of the sharpest attacks yet on the oil and gas industry by a top Obama administration official, reinforcing the White House stance that new U.S. energy policy will focus on promoting renewable energy sources like wind and solar power and rely less on traditional fossil fuels like oil as America tackles climate change.

“We don’t believe it makes sense to significantly subsidize the production and use of sources of energy (like oil and gas) that are dramatically going to add to our climate change (problem).”

Is anyone curious as to how we can be in depths of a serious financial crisis, but have 17 high-level positions in Treasury unfilled? Meanwhile, the president is looking to solve health care. Does anyone wonder why the market goes down every day? NO CONFIDENCE in the current adminstrations ability to resolve this mess. Mr. President and Mr. Treasury Secretary, please get your act together. Let's focus on the problem at hand.

LOL!!!! Even in this job market, they can't find enough Democrats to fill high government positions due to the fact that they are all crooks! Seems all they are good at is raising everyone else's taxes and spending everyone else's money and fawning over celebrities while not bothering to pay their own taxes. What a circus our government has become under the current Clown in Chief! I just wish he'd shut his dumb mouth before my IRA disappears altogether!

They can't fill the posts because there aren't enough honest, tax paying, liberals out there to fill them. It would be kind of funny, if it wasn't so serious.

    it would be illuminating to learn about the reason for this withdrawal. without specifics one can guess at a few possibilities;
    1. she wants nothing to do with geithner
    2. she want nothing to do with the administration
    3. something was actually discovered and she was asked to bow out to save the WH any more embarasment

with the work that needs to be done, more of these post need to be filled already.
