McCain laughed off his daughter's complaints about her love life.
McCain laughed off his daughter's complaints about her love life.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sen. John McCain is laughing off daughter Meghan’s claim that his presidential campaign has taken a toll on her love life.

"I have to say I have a beautiful daughter and I have bright prospects for her professionally and socially," he said on Fox News Sunday.

"I'm proud of all my children. Sometimes they say things that I would not do or say - that's what young people are all about."

In a recent blog post on the Daily Beast, Meghan McCain listed the exclusion of “obsessive supporters of my dad" as one of the campaign-related developments that had reduced her romantic prospects.

that's news/worthy? he made it clear in the past that he thinks only of himself! no surprise there.

Justin from New Haven, CT   March 8th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Huh huh huh....that's not change we can believe in!

-McCain on basically everything.

worriedmom   March 8th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

What's a parent to do. he handled it right, I have a daughter about the same age, and gosh knows some of the things she says but then again I remember when I was her age and the shudders i gave my Mom. So think back to your youth before you judge.

Jerry   March 8th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

You better believe it old man. Your daughter has a life outside of your arena. Glad she was able to tell the world.

Rich   March 8th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

Some of you people are incredible! All week long; all we have heard about is how to have great arms like Michelle Obama – And you attack the daughter of a war hero and true patriot of this country.

Franky   March 8th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

You see what you've done Senator?? Is because of you and your campaign, your daughter can't find her man. You should be ashame Senator! How dare you live the life of a politician and how dare you not have supporters who share her views?? Is wrong Senator, wrong!!

Good lord, now I'm sounding like the Hogans, LOL!!

Jeremy   March 8th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

"I'm proud of all my children. Sometimes they say things that I would not do or say — that's what young people are all about."

i know a young person, named John McCain, that has said some things that i would not do or say– that's what politicians are all about.

"Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran..."

Brilliant move, Bucko.

Satan   March 8th, 2009 12:20 pm ET

I have it on good authority that John McCain did not sell his soul.

Texan   March 8th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

JUST LIKE AMERICANS LAUGHED HIM OFF AS PRESIDENT..

Alfred E Neumann   March 8th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

This is the "news" that CNN chooses to air?

Too bad they didn't choose to air the Jeremiah Wright CD's before
Super Tuesday last year.

CNN = Bias and Bull!

C W   March 8th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

Apparently, the only news the GOP has to offer is the tabloid kind:

- Bloated, drug-addicted radio host rants again.
- Former VP candidate under investigation for fraudulent use of State funds.
- Party chairman under attack by his own members after less than 30 days.
- Senator's daughter whines in public about her lovelife – and her father takes time to grant interviews in response (beats the heck out of putting "Country First").

Steve   March 8th, 2009 11:56 am ET

I'd be happy to date Meghan. Of course, I voted for Obama, and contributed as much as I could to his campaigns. I'm sure it wouldn't be long before I wasn't allowed in the McCain house. But then again, I'm not allowed in there now, so it's no loss. Give me a call Meghan! I'm sure with love and support I can bring you over to the right side of hte political argument, which of course, is on the left.....

Mike in Montana   March 8th, 2009 11:54 am ET

Meghan McCain.., I will be 'glad' to date you. Your beautiful and intelligent. I love reading whats on your mind. Keep telling it like it is. Go girl !

TONY G.   March 8th, 2009 11:50 am ET

ME AS A FATHER I UNDERSTAND MY CHILDREN (I DO HAVE A BOY AND A GIRL) BUT SOMETIMES MY CHILDREN THEY ARE MUCH, MUCH BETTER THAN ME AND WHEN I COMPARE MY SELF TO MY OWN CHILDREN I DO REALIZE THAT ME FOR THEM OR THEM FOR ME WILL DO ANYTHING POSSIBLE. GOD BLESS MY CHILDREN AND I WISH THE SAME FOR YOURS TOO, MR. JOHN McCAIN.

For those demanding to be told why this is news... It's news because YOU read the article and because YOU responded to the article here. See how that works? They get hits on the article and that means people are interested.

The only way to prevent this from being news is to make a decision to not click on the link.

Ken in NC   March 8th, 2009 11:42 am ET

Senator John McCain, you should have told your daughter that "The Fundamentals Of Her Love Life Are Sound".

lovable liberal   March 8th, 2009 11:39 am ET

Our media, focused on the really, really important things 'n' stuff.

Clint, Wa.   March 8th, 2009 11:35 am ET

Don't worry Meghan, there are lots of desperate Republicans out there.

Ambrose Smith, Borrego Springs, California   March 8th, 2009 11:31 am ET

Aw c'mon John. Get a sense of humor! Laugh it up!

Cheryl   March 8th, 2009 11:30 am ET

But I guess Michele's dress, or the girl's playhouse or dog, or Obama's hoops is news? Please!

altapres   March 8th, 2009 11:29 am ET

Why don't u join the show "The Bachelor" and u might win the guy's heart.

T.J.   March 8th, 2009 11:25 am ET

"In a recent blog post on the Daily Beast, Meghan McCain listed the exclusion of “obsessive supporters of my dad" as one of the campaign-related developments that had reduced her romantic prospects."

I suspect that this statement has more to do with the fact that many teenage/young adult women in general go through a phase where they rebel against their father and want to act in rebelious ways. So, the quickest way to turn them off is to talk about how great their father is. I don't understand this phenomena myself, but I've seen it many times. And Meghan McCain seems to be particularly rebelious. She's one of this chicks who loves "bad boys". She said so in an interview herself where she said something to the effect of "don't even talk to me if you're like a suit-wearing Wall Street, I like a bad boy, like a biker with tatoos and stuff". Oh yea, those biker gang bangers are the way to go. Little did Meghan know, that maybe those Wall Street guys are the baddest boys of them all!

Truth Bomb Thrower   March 8th, 2009 11:25 am ET

So the Sturgis-Biker-Chick-Wannabe is having problems with her love life. Imagine that.

Why are we still hearing and reading about this disfunctional family. It's bad enough we still have to hear and read about her dad, the worst Republican presidential candidate in modern history. It's because of John McCain's high-jacking of the Republican nomination and his dismal, pathetic campaign that we are stuck with four years of Obama (the worst Democratic candidate in modern history).

ENOUGH ABOUT THE MCCAINS!!!

OJFL   March 8th, 2009 11:25 am ET

I am amazed by all the hatred shown here. Senator McCain lost the election but not the right to be on TV. And Miss McCain's post she did not single out supporters of the father but also supporters of president Obama. I guess the story has more effect if they pit daughter against father...

Devin   March 8th, 2009 11:23 am ET

Why is this news? McCain, love him or hate him lost the election, life goes on. Why is his daughter's love life an event with worth CNN's attention? I hope the American people aren't taking time away from the xbox and the refrigerator just to read this nonsense.

Mike O   March 8th, 2009 11:20 am ET

Hard-hitting political coverage you've got going on here; much more important than, say 15,000 showing up in a single event of many to protest government bailout strategies.

Pat F   March 8th, 2009 11:20 am ET

This is silly story – so was the original one. Talk about who cares.

ED Fl   March 8th, 2009 11:18 am ET

that old coot does not know what is going on in the real world outside of The GOP hatemongering, Spiteful venom they spew against anyone outside of their own little vicious world. Hopefully some one might take him back to Arizona andleave him there.

Doh   March 8th, 2009 11:18 am ET

I think John McCain sold his sole during the campaign. While his service to this country is something to be admired, there were many more individuals who served this country better than he has. What ever credibility he has had was all gone, at least with me, when he decided to put up a banner saying country first and then go onto select that retard Palin as the running mate. Not one thought about what this country would become had John became the president and through some calamity Palin became the president.

I'm no fan of John McCain. Nor do I think he would make a good president. Not even close. That being said, I think some of you people are attacking his daughter unfairly. Some of the comments are below the belt. People need to rise above this childish jabs.

Brian Jones   March 8th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Why are we talking about this and not A)The Spending Bill B) Nationalized Health Care C) The Nationalization of our Banking System D)Obama's plan to reconcile with the Taliban E)Iraq F)The failure of American Auto Companies G)Certain States using the 10th Amendment against the spending bill

Wow CNN you've amazed me. Stop wasting your time and cover things that citizens need to know.

Jero   March 8th, 2009 11:13 am ET

Why is this news.......CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN! IS THIS BREAKING NEWS? OR WHAT! GET A LIFE PEOPLE! REPORT IMPORTANT NEWS! NOT THIS USELESS STUFF!

chuck   March 8th, 2009 11:13 am ET

A CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK." SOMETIMES THEY SAY THINGS THAT I WILL NOT DO OR SAY." I HAVE NEVER TRUSTED A TWO FACED MAN. JOHN MCCAIN IS ONE OF THEM.

Kat   March 8th, 2009 11:13 am ET

You people are exactly the ones Michelle Obama spoke of when she said Americans are mean people. All of you disgust me.

Sam   March 8th, 2009 11:12 am ET

I love how a spoiled, spoon-fed "political aristocrat" complains about how her love life is suffering because of her ridiculously wealthy father's presidential campaign. Meanwhile, 600,000 people were laid off in February...this girl is a joke

Concerned citizen   March 8th, 2009 11:10 am ET

Well John laughs at pretty much everything now a days!Shouldn't be any suprise to anyone.
After his choice of Sarah I thought it was common knowledge the man lost his mind!

KO   March 8th, 2009 11:10 am ET

Please tell us why this is news.

George   March 8th, 2009 11:06 am ET

Noooo blogging about EVERYTHING that you do in your love life is killing your love life. Keep your personal issues off of the web and you'll get what you want , but if someone has to worry about you putting their business out there beyond just the paparazzi you'll never get a date

Laughing   March 8th, 2009 11:04 am ET

being a parent...

might be the one thing he did right.. to bad it didn't work for Palin

Niki Birdsflight   March 8th, 2009 11:03 am ET

Ha...ha....ha....the girl shows real brains. If she thinks her father's role messed up her love life, she needs to re-group such as tell the world that maybe she voted for Obama. Also why did she stand there like a broom stick next to her mother when the old guy made a speech? Was she manipulated and told to be there otherwise money would dry up? Likely. They were determined to show a "pretty" family picture. Who cares? These family members were just props and poor ones at that. Fakes!

nick   March 8th, 2009 11:02 am ET

She has no one to blame but herself. If her father's political future dictates her love life, then she need to get some psychological help. Thank God he didn't get elected President, because she'd find something to complain about then as well.

kathy   March 8th, 2009 11:01 am ET

Ah, a good McCain.....whatever it is, it is someone else's fault.

John G   March 8th, 2009 10:59 am ET

Meghan is a beautiful, intelligent, talented young woman and she should be allowed to live her life as she see's fit. It's unfortunate that fanatics from the right would try to use her to get close to her father and even more unfortunate that fanatics from the left feel the need to judge her based on her last name alone.

WILLthey EVERlearn?   March 8th, 2009 10:55 am ET

I'm glad he is laughing, just like the (majority) of us, laughing at him not winning the P spot.

Andy   March 8th, 2009 10:54 am ET

Being in the public eye would kill just about anybody's love life, I would think. Forget WHY you're in the public eye... any reason will do. I'm certain that nothing kills the libido quite like dodging the paparazzi....

Walter   March 8th, 2009 10:53 am ET

Why don't you put your chihuahua in your purse and go to the mall.

Jake   March 8th, 2009 10:47 am ET

Stick with the mavericks Meghan, you'll be just fine. (those on the fringes... well... they're on the fringe for a reason)

So.... How *YOU* doin'...

J. Dean   March 8th, 2009 10:44 am ET

OLD MAN JOHN McCAIN, YOU DON'T GET IT. YOUR OLD, VERY OLD AGE WILL NOT AND CANNOT MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND THE 21ST CENTURY MENTALITY OF YOUNG AMERICANS, INCLUDING YOUR DAUGHTER. DID YOU LEARN HOW TO USE A COMPUTER YET ? IF NOT TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY AND LEARN SOMETHING. YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHAT'S IN MEGHAN'S MIND HEY !

johnrj08   March 8th, 2009 10:42 am ET

I guess John McCain, being the grown-up that he is, would never have said in the last six months that the economy is sound. That's what old people are all about. Right?

cnnnewser   March 8th, 2009 10:41 am ET

Does anyone really care about Megan McCains love life????
Give us a break.

Bruce Blasl   March 8th, 2009 10:37 am ET

And this is newsworthy? Who really cares about Meghan McCain's love life? Someone needs to get alife!

Craig, IL   March 8th, 2009 10:37 am ET

Yes, her love life is probably laughable.

Dexter Skagway   March 8th, 2009 10:37 am ET

Actually, I really admired her honesty for saying what is certainly true: listening to everyone prattle on about politics must be this horrible, endless annoyance.

Don't belittle your daughter, McCain! The bickering, self-centered world of politics that you have condemned her to is a nightmare for real human beings with hearts.

JonDie   March 8th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Sorry, Meghan, but electing your dad president would have literally KILLED our country, which is more important than a temporary bump in your love life.

maf   March 8th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Sometimes older people say things that I would not do or say!
John it's time to get out of politics, but I believe the people of Arizona will take care of that for you in 2010.

Can't wait to read more of your "twit"ter moments. Keep them coming!

Vic   March 8th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Gotta' love 'em!
