DNC gets 'overwhelming response' to Limbaugh billboard proposal

Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh received criticism from the DNC for his remarks that he hopes Obama fails.
Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh received criticism from the DNC for his remarks that he hopes Obama fails.

(CNN) – Citing an “overwhelming response” of tens of thousands of replies, the Democratic National Committee has narrowed down its top five messages from supporters to Rush Limbaugh.

With responses like, “We can fix America, just don’t Rush it,” the DNC is asking its online backers to vote for their favorite submission. The winning slogan will be placed on a billboard in Limbaugh’s hometown of West Palm Beach, Florida where the organization says he “can’t miss it.”

The responses purportedly poured in after the DNC sent an e-mail to its supporters last week urging Democrats to “talk back” to a right-wing radio personality.

“It's up to you to let Rush know that Americans reject his desire to see President Obama - and our country – fail,” DNC Executive Director Jen O’Malley Dillon wrote in the latest e-mail.

The DNC has not announced when it plans to put up the billboard.

from reading most polls and posts on websites (other than FoxNews) a majority of Americans do NOT support Rush so I agree that this is a waste of time and money. The Dems need to move on from this and let Mike Steele, Sarah Palin, Rush, Hannity Joe the Plumber and all the rest of that bunch just self emplode. So far they are doing a good job of it so why give them anymore attention.

Barack is down to 61% in the latest poll.

Poor little guy was at 68% 30 days ago.

Sounds like people are waking up and realizing he has no idea what

he is doing. He is proving each day how naive he is and how much he

    lacks any leadership skills.

His own Democratic party is folding on him. Democrat Senators are

stopping his spending bill NOT Republicans.

    The guy is a joke.

50% rating is soon to come. Good job barack.

5 Trillion in 8 years so big deal.
Nancy Pelosi is an old bag and she is hurting are boy barack.
    whine whine whine.

You people are such a joke that Dems are going after Rush because they can NOT fix anyting in the real world.

Baracks ratings have dropped to 61 and his confidence is plummeting

The guy is not working on the CREDIT, BANKING and MORTGAGE issue. He is wasting time on Education, HealthCare, Energy Credits..

Yep. The Dems are officially off message and not working on the Economy.

You guys need to get it together and stop chasing your tail(Rush).

you ever hear the old saying "you can't win an argument with a fool"? Well the same goes with "you can't insult an ignorant person because they are too ignorant to realize they have been insulted"! This is really a waste of time and money by the DNC. They are just helping to boost Rush's ratings and his ego.

it changed our LIberties and our Constitution.

YOU NEED TO ALL GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT.

Gotta chuckle. . . all the big buff Republicans are scared to dealth of Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. It took little Meaghan McCain to stand up to them. Notice she didn't offer an apology the next day.
The Republicans need to get a backbone and stand up to these idiots, if not, the Republican Party is a done deal.

Rush has the freedom to say anything he wants. And because the DNC believes in free speach they can say anything they want in rebuttal.
Personally I think the billboard is an idiotic idea but I'm getting tired of you idiot saying that if someone takes offense to whatever mindless blather comes out of so called conserfvatives mouths they are trying to take away your freedom of speach.
When I grew up I was told that I could say anything I wanted as long as I was willing to accept the consequences. Republicans don't seem to believe there should be consequenses when they do anything. Yet they keep trying to promote themselves as the party of responsibility.

  10. Divsional Change?

In 2006, most Democrats in the US wanted George Bush's policies to fail. How is that any different than this whole malestom brought on by Rushie-poo?

And for the record, I can't stand the idiot.

CNN, why don't you post my comments?

First, Rush Limbaugh is HARDLY a "Private Citizen." He's not a guy going to work every day and minding his own business. He has attached himself to the Republican party, to the point that people are starting to include him in their choices for Republican Presidential Candidate. So if you want to be in politics, then you're fair game, just like any other politician.

Second, Rush Limbaugh is a big fat joke – and the more people actually hear (and listen to) his ridiculous lies and statements, the more they will know what he is and what he stands for, and not just what their daddies or their fishin' and huntin' buddies told them.

I don't agree with much of what Rush says BUT

    big BUT here.....

A media personality is being attacked by the white house and the DNC.

WAKE UP CNN.!!!!! Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are being attacked.

Are you this blind to what is going on? Are you, as members of the media just going to roll over and let the DNC and white house stroke your belly as a master strokes a dogs belly.

Because you don't agree with what Rush says SHOULD MEAN NOTHING.

Its the bigger picture you are missing!

    Where are your journalistic standards?

What if Nixon would have tried this against the Woodward and Bernstein?

Have you no shame? Have you no sense of decency sirs?

I guess your focus on the person being attacked is preventing you form seeing the forest for the trees. ITS THE ATTACKING that is the story not the person who is being attacked.

Peoples hatred of Pres Bush have made the US loose their collective minds.

Many are stressing that the media has not emphasized what RL actually said, which was that he hoped Barack Obama would fail if it meant that socialism would fail, etc.

I think we are all aware of what was actually said by now (no thanks to the media); but, what most are ignoring is the real reason he said what he did. It wasn't so he could "expose Obama's socialist plans to he country." No, it was for the shock value and the publicity it would garner him. He knew that if he used the word "fail" in the manner in which he did, it would create a huge stir and his ratings and public exposure would go up (remember, no publicity is bad publicity). It's all about HIS MONEY – doesn't anyone get it?

Michael Steele.., 'get some backbone'.. Be a leader of the Republican Party.., not a 'patsy' to Rush Limbaugh. If the Republican Party thinks that Rush Limbaugh is the leader.., why doesn't Rush Limbaugh run for public office ? It sounds like, that is exactly what Rush Limbaugh is saying and doing. Rush.., run for office. Good luck.. Mike in Montana

    Rush, I be da man!!!
Rush, I'm king of the da world!!!
Rush, I'd apologize, if I were ever wrong.
Hush Rush and save the ozone.
Rush, the gift that keeps on giving.

he didn't say he wanted Obama to fail he said he wants obama socialist programs to fail but this is the problem with Americans they are stupid and ignorant and closed mind. Stupid Americans only rely on the liberals tv stations to tell them what to think and say. I can't wait until all the Stupid Americans start marching like the North koreans do, if Obama and his media tells you to march the Stupid Americans will. I won't and i don't want Obama to fail but i also don't want his socialist programs to win either.

What the democrats said was "IF Bush wants to enter an illegal war to kill our children, we hope he Fails! IF Bush tries to snuff our right to privacy via the patriot act...we hope he fails! IF Bush wants to destroy our economy, housing market, and unemployment rate by spending all our money on an illegal war...we HOPE he fails! IF Bush only supports the rich and screws the rest, we hope he fails! IF Bush supports cowardly torture tactics, we hope he fails! IF Bush turns us back 100 years to the stone age by ignorantly ignoring science, we hope he fails!"

PS: Rush has freedom of speech, and he exercises it. No foul. I personally don't find it a waste of time for democrats to exercise their freedom of speech by buying ad space. Put your big boy pants on and stop crying!

    @ Matthew, Detroit

Nobody's buying his fake caveat. The FACT is that whether Obama's policies change our Constitution and laws, etc., is precisely what the GOP wants everyone to think is the heart of the debate. As a point of both fact and law, Obama is not violating the Constitution in any way and he has yet to do anything whatsoever that has infringed on our civil liberties. Capitalism is not mandated by the Constitution. Nor is socialism banned by it. Moreover, there is serious question whether the GOP's nonsensical blabber about socialism and "comrade this, comrade that" should even be justified with a response in the first place. The FACT is, the subtext to what Rush said is that he believes Obama's policies do violate the Constitution and our civil liberties...or at least wants everyone out there to think they do...and therefore HE ABSOLUTELY DOES want Obama to fail. The majority of America puts great faith in Obama's plans. Therefore, Rush has stated he wants America to fail...and I can tell you, he and the GOP are doing everything they can to help make us suffer so they can later blame Obama.
