DNC gets 'overwhelming response' to Limbaugh billboard proposal

Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh received criticism from the DNC for his remarks that he hopes Obama fails.
Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh received criticism from the DNC for his remarks that he hopes Obama fails.

(CNN) – Citing an “overwhelming response” of tens of thousands of replies, the Democratic National Committee has narrowed down its top five messages from supporters to Rush Limbaugh.

With responses like, “We can fix America, just don’t Rush it,” the DNC is asking its online backers to vote for their favorite submission. The winning slogan will be placed on a billboard in Limbaugh’s hometown of West Palm Beach, Florida where the organization says he “can’t miss it.”

The responses purportedly poured in after the DNC sent an e-mail to its supporters last week urging Democrats to “talk back” to a right-wing radio personality.

“It's up to you to let Rush know that Americans reject his desire to see President Obama - and our country – fail,” DNC Executive Director Jen O’Malley Dillon wrote in the latest e-mail.

The DNC has not announced when it plans to put up the billboard.

DNC you can't handle the truth and you don't want America to hear the truth and that is why you are trying to shut Rush up. It just makes DNC look pitiful. Its called Freedom of Speech but the liberals only want us to hear what they want us to and that is called communism. Lets see if CNN will print this.

He won't see it – he'll just send his housekeeper out to view it for him.

OK libs, if you want to cut up what people say into misleading soundbites then you need to stop your double standards and let us all do it. Therefore Obama thinks the constitution is flawed and needs to be re-written and he believes that we should be showing 5 year olds pornos. Oh yeah, he believes no white person in America is right and that we should change it from god bless America to god damn America.

What I just did is no different than what you are doing with what Rush said. Now, if you want to take on what Rush truly said then explain in detail how trying socialism in America now will have a different outcome than it has everywhere else it was tried.

That's right, Democrats. Adopt Rush's ways of blanketed, blind hatred towards your enemies and your journey to the dark side will be complete.

Gee republicans, Rush is your mouthpiece. Maybe you could honestly think for yourselves. If you want America to fail, you wish your kids failure too. Yep, keep listening to Rush, and America will not fail but you will; and Rush, your hero will still be rich and fat.
Think for yourselves republicans. Don't hide behind Rush and ball baby Boehner. Help don't pout!!!!

I don't think they can print my response on a public billboard but at least I don't get my "rush" from drugs.

How about a picture of Obama with the words: "O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast!", written underneath.

Bill Ayers, spokesman for the DNC, was a little surprised that only 51% of Democrats polled in August, 2006, wanted President Bush to fail.

So with everything going on in the country, Rush Limbaugh is the focus of the DNC? That sounds like change to me.

You people talk about how hateful, rude and childish Republicans are, well have you looked in the mirror? With all the serious stuff going on, this is all you can come up with??? Please why not spend more time on more serious matters, like helping a community instead of tearing it apart. It really shows that you can dish it out but you can't take it. Why don't you just ignore the situation like most people do.......... Gosh forbid if Republicans put up a billboard of your "Chosen One"

Our democratic leadership insist on playing radio boy while we fall into a depressoin.., as if the last two years have not been an economic disaster for America.

So every time someone says something the democrats don't like, they're going to put up a billboard? How undemocratic can you get! Rush is a private citizen, not a politician and the DNC should be fined for trying to stop free speech. What if the RNC told their followers to give them money so they could put a billboard up for Chris Matthews and Olberman saying shame on him for putting down republican politicians (oh god!). How ridiculous and immature!

This is riduculous! Does the DNC have nothing better to do? Isn't this being a little childish? It reminds me of young childrens games they play in school! I think time and energy needs to be on the economy and not on these silly games!!!!!!

Why not name it like it is: treason. Wanting a Pres. and thus the country to fail is a form of treason plain and simple. If a Dem. had said this, the Reps. would be howling, impeaching, shutting down the government. Yet their "leader" says it, and nobody blinks an eyelash. Hypocrites one and all.
