DNC gets 'overwhelming response' to Limbaugh billboard proposal

Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh received criticism from the DNC for his remarks that he hopes Obama fails.

Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh received criticism from the DNC for his remarks that he hopes Obama fails.

(CNN) – Citing an “overwhelming response” of tens of thousands of replies, the Democratic National Committee has narrowed down its top five messages from supporters to Rush Limbaugh.

With responses like, “We can fix America, just don’t Rush it,” the DNC is asking its online backers to vote for their favorite submission. The winning slogan will be placed on a billboard in Limbaugh’s hometown of West Palm Beach, Florida where the organization says he “can’t miss it.”

The responses purportedly poured in after the DNC sent an e-mail to its supporters last week urging Democrats to “talk back” to a right-wing radio personality.

“It's up to you to let Rush know that Americans reject his desire to see President Obama - and our country – fail,” DNC Executive Director Jen O’Malley Dillon wrote in the latest e-mail.

The DNC has not announced when it plans to put up the billboard.

Putting a billboard up regarding Limbaugh's statements is giving Limbaugh too much attention for his mean-spirited comments. He will just sit back and bask in the atttention. The better way to deal with this is ignore it. I read the finalist comments and they are not clever. But people will do what they want regardless of common sense so go ahead put the billboard up and now you can add another billboard when he makes another inappropriate comment. There could potentially be hundreds of billboards honoring Limbaugh's statements if this is how our society chooses to address/reward poor judgement.

I'm a strong Dem and am eager to see a turn in the direction this country is/has been heading. But I'm concerned that if the DNC gets baited into doing hugely partisan things such as this (and so openly acknowledging Rush's power in the Republican party) we are not at all supporting the vision Obama has for the country. This just fuels the fire. I think it's time we rise above it all. So, the only one i could support was the one that did not reference Rush at all.

    Think high road!

Rush is an ignorant pig. Why doesn't he go back to his sunny days of being an oxy contin drug addict. He was more amusing then.

The DNC attacking a private citizen? Amazing. What next, censorship and gulags?

"let Rush know that American reject his desire to see President Obama - and our country - fail"

Except the President isn't the country, and the failure of his policies means only the failure of the implementation of his views.

    Stop crying about it.

To better serve our country and the President, we should ignore Rush Limbaugh and his stupid antics. The more he "fist bump" and show his bare chest and stomp around like some "out-of-control" kid, the more people will see him for what he really is. He has back-peddled when he said "he wanted Obama to fail". He now says he wanted Obama's policy to fail. Rush's logic and his agenda is a threat to all Americans. I say this because anyone in their right mind would not want the President to fail, even his policies, because if he fails we all fail. Ignore Rush and his filth please we have to much to worry about right now.

I have no use for Rush Limbaugh but I really wish that the DNC wouldn't give him this kind of attention – it just fuels him on.

It's so odd for me to see Democrats actually fight back. We've spent most of the past 30 years getting beaten up and being too scared of what the right wing will say about us to say anything about it. I think that a lot of this is because of the internet. Republicans have always been a lot better than Democrats at hammering home a message in a few words (think "Drill, baby, drill). But now that fact checking is so easy and more and more people are turning to the internet to get a grasp on politics, the Democrats have started to find their voice. And not a moment too late.

Any truth to the claim that billboards are illegal in West Palm Beach?

Anyhow, every stupid attempt like this to defame Rush has usually backfired.

    Harry Reid sure remembers...

Rush wants America to fail just to use Obama as the escape goat on the mistakes made by Bush and his cronies. Let's make RUSH fail. Stop using the products that advertise on his show; call; write to all the sponsors and STOP buying and I guarantee it will hurt were it should, right in the pocket. Rush is the worst enemy of this country and I consider him in this hard times in America a terrorist worst than the taliban.

I am so glad that Republicans didn't stoop to these childish antics back in 2006 when a Newsweek poll reported that 51% of Democrats wanted George Bush to fail. This is so ridiculous. Very much beneath the Democrats. Meanwhile, Rush's ratings are sky high. Nice work!

So this is what has become of the Democratic party? They waste their time and effort on attacking Rush.

Hey, what about the economy? What about the war? What about the homeless?

I am embarassed by what they're doing, and I hope they note, I always vote. If they keep this up, it won't be for them next time. This is what I came to expect from the GOP, but it seems the Dems are no better now. Shame on all of them!
