Democrats to Obama: Hurry up and fix the economy

Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-North Dakota, says there are big concerns over talk about a second stimulus package.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Some Democrats are increasingly concerned about President Obama's $787 billion financial fix for the ailing economy, and are demanding greater transparency on further spending.

With the White House seemingly comparing the nation's economy to a house on fire, some congressional Democrats are asking, where's the fire truck?

One New Hampshire congresswoman said as much to Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner on Capitol Hill recently.

"I said, hurry, please hurry, because people are waiting and they are hurting, and they need the help now," Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, D-New Hampshire, said.

She's one of a growing number of nervous Democrats on edge or at odds with some of the Obama's administration's plans on the economy. Some are taking aim at the president's budget proposals that would curb popular tax deductions for wealthier Americans.

"I don't think ultimately the criticism is surprising. That certainly happens and is all part of the process," said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

Spending money will not fix the economy. Raising taxes will not fix the economy. Our tax cut that amounts to $13 per week will not fix the economy. Obama needs to go back to the Reagan years and follow how he fixed the economy after Carter ruined it.

Oh right. Hurry up and fix it.
In two months. Get a clue, people(politicians, especially)
Transparency is a good idea. But the fix will not be instantaneous

Obama is not the Messiah. These things take time. Took almost a decade for the economy to tank. Will take time to fix.

President Obama should have called congresses bluff and vetoed this bill. Nancy and Richard were banking on the fact that he didn't have the balls to use that veto power and he should have called their bluff and then they would have been in the proverbial corner with their constituents jumping up and down for an explanation. President Obama said he would not accept earmarks and now he has shown that he is weak and will now have to overcome this obstacle next time around.

Maybe now they'll realize what we've known for a very long time. That president teleprompter doesn't have a clue how to fix anything.

It's amazing how fickle people can be. I for one will reserve judgement till his first term is up and it's time to vote again.

Three things. First, in October/November of 2008 PE Obama requested that the congress that would convene on January 2, 2009, would have a stimulus bill ready for him to sign on inauguration day or the next day. Did they have it ready – no not for another 3 weeks. PE Obama asked the Senate to rush the stimulus bill because time is of the essence. Did they rush it through – no it took another week. PE Obama asked that earmarks be minimal and the stimulus bill be pasted as clean as possible. Did that happen – NO. Now that congress has acted with moderate speed they pressure our President to make up for their lost time. Its almost March 20th and had the stimulus bill been ready for his signature the day after inauguration maybe the result would have kicked in already. I suggest they all LOOK IN THE MIRROR.

Obama FIX the economy??? That has to be about one of the funniest things I've heard in a while. It'd get my top vote if it wasn't for the completely terrible after effects America will be suffering once Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and the rest of the Dem idiots are voted out of office.

The bank wants to return the money. I think Obama is doing something right here. Put some conditions, make it so unpalatable that they don't want to take the money. Heck, if we go the way Bush wanted – no strings attached, that money will just disappear.

They can't be serious! What do they mean "hurry up and fix it"? It took 8 years to create this mess and they expect the problems to be resolved overnight? Gimme a break!

It took 8+ years to get us where we are economically and any sensible person knows that.-- Old habits are hard to break . Let`s give Obama time. After all, its only been 51 days since this mess was dropped in his lap.

"Some are taking aim at the president's budget proposals that would curb popular tax deductions for wealthier Americans."

Yeah, never miss an opportunity to beat up one of those nasty rich guys and steal his money.

Democrats are a petty, envious, thieving, lot–unlike Republicans, who are a petty, bigoted, self-righteous, authoritarian lot.

These idiots in Congress should be tried for high treason. They scream "fix the economy" yet they add billions in earmarks to budgets. They bilk the taxpayers of this country out of billions and then talk about out-of-control spending. At this point, cancel the legislative branch. Round them up and take them to Gitmo. Add an amendment that deals with Congressional term limits and start over with new elections.

You're all a bunch of children who seriously need to GROW UP and let this process run it's course! What's Obama supposed to do wave a magic wand and make all you're dreams come true? What's "rediculous" is your atrocious spelling, ijoe. Obama was elected by the American people on the promise of a new way of governing in Washington, especially in regard to greater transparency. All we've had our rejected nominees, extra pork, and pessimistic speeches from "the One". He keeps saying things are looking bad, well then do something, dummy.

    wow . . .
obama has been president for less than 2 months & everybody, even his own party, is expecting him to undo decades of damage in less time than the NBA playoffs take . . . how ridiculous.
its not surprising, however, considering that americans today always expect instant gratification. hungry, go to mickey ds. overweight, take pills & get your stomach lipo'ed. don't want to read jurrasic park, see the movie. want a new lincoln navigator, take out a 75k loan. not everything can be done in the blink of an eye, people.

I am so sick of everybody, news meida especially. Everybody has their opinions on how to fix this and how to fix that. Where were all you big mouths during the last 8 years?

What do you expect him to do in two months? Democrats for one should shut their mouths and get behind the President like the republicans stick together. All the democrats are doing now is giving the republicans an "I told you so" storyline.

It is not fair to make it seem as if President Obama is not doing what needs to be done. Give it a chance folks!!!!!!!!!!
