Democrats to Obama: Hurry up and fix the economy

Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-North Dakota, says there are big concerns over talk about a second stimulus package.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Some Democrats are increasingly concerned about President Obama's $787 billion financial fix for the ailing economy, and are demanding greater transparency on further spending.

With the White House seemingly comparing the nation's economy to a house on fire, some congressional Democrats are asking, where's the fire truck?

One New Hampshire congresswoman said as much to Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner on Capitol Hill recently.

"I said, hurry, please hurry, because people are waiting and they are hurting, and they need the help now," Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, D-New Hampshire, said.

She's one of a growing number of nervous Democrats on edge or at odds with some of the Obama's administration's plans on the economy. Some are taking aim at the president's budget proposals that would curb popular tax deductions for wealthier Americans.

"I don't think ultimately the criticism is surprising. That certainly happens and is all part of the process," said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

ijoe, I totally agree. HOW is President Obama supposed to miraculously FIX what took 8 years to create? The question I have is WHY are all of these expectations placed on his shoulders? Some may already know the answer to THAT question.

I believe President Obama is fully of aware of the current crisis. He has handled the economy with a sense of urgency. While we all want things to get better, what more can you expect? Its not a perfect world and compared to Bush, this guy is hands on and doesnt just hit the autopilot button as we encountered in the past.

FYI ijoe... This problem started more than 30 years ago... do you homework on the Community Redevelopment Act of 1977 before saying this started 8 years ago. God you Obama lovers are only gonna get more desperate in defending him... That is ridiculous!!!!

Marc in Virginia, you seem cynical and jaded. You must listen to Rush Limbaugh and Co way too much.

I am a Liberal. I am so disappointed in the Democratic Congress. They are worried, I guess, that they are going to lose a really cushy job. I was hoping that they were wise leaders who would look after the long term interests of the nation.

This country needs a responsible political party.

I think its pretty clear that our press and our gov't is fundamentally ill-suited for the type of deliberate and patient effort necessary to get us out of this mess.

The press couldn't even wait for the traditional 100 day mark (which is really short as it is) before it graded Obama. And politicians couldn't even wait until the federal gov't started making payments from the stimulus before demanding greater transparency.

They are a bunch of cowards...wouldn't tell Bush to hurry -up and make things right after he made the mess. Now let's tell President Obama to put a rush on things. The man has been in power for 50days, give him time to put things in order. President Obama do your thing your way, please don't let anyone tell you how to govern.

It's pretty simple: look where these Dems are from and whether they must run for re-election in 2010. 9 times out of 10 you'll find the answer. It's called hedging your bets.

Politicians should be required to have some sort of education. This is just stupidity at its finest. This is a world economic problem that will take a long, long time to solve. Closing your eyes and say "please go away", surprisingly will not work, but for the rest of us, it still may not be a bad idea to close our eyes so we don't have to see what idiots make up congress.

These people can keep sashaying around and spilling out 'cute' words of wisdom, but in the end --- "WHERE ARE THE PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS?" We cannot run this country on taxes and government jobs, government welfare. We have to get people off of welfare and either work or move on.

Democrats got to love them. They even want there leader to fix it over night. no wonder the Democrats never get anything done. All they do is talk about and shift the blame.

"do you homework on the Community Redevelopment Act of 1977 before saying this started 8 years ago."

Since 1977 there's been a combined 20 years of Republican presidents, compared to a combined 10 years of Democrat presidents. So you're saying Reagan was able to beat the Soviets but not able to scrap the CRA? W, in 8 years of presidency, and with his party controlled the entire government for 6 of those years, didn't bother to scrap the CRA. If it's the big bad boogeyman that Republicans looking for a scapegoat make it out to be, why didn't they ever do anything about it?

One could actually make the same argument with regards to the issue of abortion, of course.

If they want him to do that then they should ask him to do exactly opposite of what he has been doing.

The funny thing is that all the the whiners have brought nothing to the table as to how to fix the economy. All they can say is"fix it" and "tax cuts". Utter foolwangery......

BJ, go back to listening to Rush–at least Obama can pronounce words correctly.

President Obama is doing everything he can....These are stupid comments from stupid people...Yes it took eight years to create this mess, it will take years to fix it. Pres. Obama already told that to the people during his campaign.
It is getting ridiculous....These same stupid people should have been after Pres. Bush when he and his cronies were creating this mess!

Who voted for Bush anyway???? They should be blaming themselves for the whole economic/world crisis mess that we are in. I knew when he was "appointed" as president that he would bring the whole world down... Didn't anyone else see that coming???
