Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are political power players immortalized in the Female Force comic book series.

(CNN) -- Long gone are the days where comic books feature images of men in tights and women glorifying the female form. Bluewater Productions comics welcomes the pantsuit, and toned arms.

In a new series designed to examine influential women who are “making and shaping modern history,” Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are the first political power players immortalized in the comic book production house’s new Female Force series. The read follows the life of the two Washington femme fatales - in graphic novel form, of course.

First lady Michelle Obama and Caroline Kennedy are the upcoming women to be featured in the series. The covers depict Michelle Obama sporting a sleeveless number amidst a White House backdrop, and Caroline Kennedy sharing the spotlight with her father, President John F. Kennedy.

Watch: Clinton, Palin comic books

“These are very strong independent women that people want to know more about, and what better to teach younger kids about these role models than through comic books,” says Bluewater Productions Vice President Jason Shultz.

The graphic novels have already proven popular. Sarah Palin’s issue has sold out before its March 11 release date and is running a second printing.

But the Female Force series doesn’t limit itself to politics. Royal humanitarian and activist Princess Diana and media superstars Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Walters are set to grace covers.

I don't consider Palin a "roll-model" but she did come up on her own. Hillary is strong in character and took off on her own instead of staying in Bill's shadow. Carolyn was not even noticed until she came out and said she was for Obama. Michelle is an excellent role model for being a mother, housewife, career...in that order. But c'mon. There must be some strong Republicans out there who are coming up as strong women. And I'm saying this as a strong Democrat.

sherry   March 11th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Truth ........Sarah Palin did not get there on her own....the repubs pumped her up and she came to light and the majority of americans think she is a joke......Common sense and book smarts, she pales in comparison to the other three ladies hands down.

Kimberly in Arizona   March 11th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a JOKE, however, having said that, I think she deserves this spot because she is a strong politician, I oppose everything she stands for, but as a woman, I am glad to see her there, istead of another republican hack man that I dont agree with...Women should be ruling the world! Oh and Caroline Kennedy, yes a power house NO DOUBT, but should not be with political women, she should be in an issue dealing with strong women in law or something...

What a shame to include Sarah Palin as part of this group. She doesn't qualify on any level.

House Diva   March 11th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

a bunch of corrupt politicians are being made out to be comic book HEROES?

what is this world coming to??...anything to make a buck i suppose.

i think that it's about time that our children start learning to depend on, and look for heroes within THEMSELVES, because the adults have totally flipped their lids.

i'd rather my daughters look up to an honest; god fearing; law abiding homeless woman, who never sold her soul for Prada, and mansions on the hill, other than any of those criminals in that picture...especially Sarah Palin.

Dem in FL   March 11th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

I'm going pick up my Hillary comics today. :)

zone   March 11th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

I think too many people are missing the point...this is not about left wing or right wing opinions. Despite political leanings, you can't deny that each of the woman featured have had some degree of influence on America. Each one is an influential, independent woman. You don't have to be a politician to have influence and to be a strong female role model.

To those who say they wouldn't buy it based on a cover or that so and so is a poor choice, you weren't going to buy it anyway, so your opinions are meaningless. You prove the point the publishers were trying to make–that we are a society that lives on headlines and soundbites. The book is obviously directed at younger readers who don't read CNN.com and it simply tries to generate some understanding of why these women are successful.

To Deborah who said she wouldn't want her child reading this...why? Are you so jaded by your political beliefs that you would discount any of these women's achievements?

big papa   March 11th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Michelle and Caroline are the ONLY two STRONG women...

...who deserve to be on this cover...

...Palin is taking care of her snowmobiling freeloader hubby...

...Hillary is NO role model for self-sufficient independent women...

...how's that moderators?

gl, Pittsburgh   March 11th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

It seems that the whole world see Sara Palin as a cartoon that why is was a sell out. Everybody like a good cartoon and Sara Palin is sure a cartoon.

Kimberly in Arizona   March 11th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Newsucanuse~UM, do you live under a rock??? Hillary because of her hubby??? Hey in case you missed it, she was a senator, and now THE SEC. OF STATE!!!

TRUTH   March 11th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Sarah Palin is the only woman who has risen to political prominence on her own. The other 3 are only important or in their position because of their husbands or family name.

Machiavelli, Baton Rouge, LA   March 11th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Although I think this is the ideal concept, Bluewater can do away with the altruistic stance and admit that this is about making money–for Bluewater, of course. They discovered a niche in the market and they are exploiting it. Like I said, it is a good idea because it represents the change that has come, and more that is coming, to America. Women can now grace the covers of magazines a powerful figures, and not just figureheads.

Gabe Polson   March 11th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

I think this is very coo and they have chosen some exceptional women. I even respect the decision to add Sarah Palin, but explain to me once again why Caroline Kennedy is among these women. How has she changed the political landscape?

Shadysider   March 11th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

So is Palin "The Thing" or "The Abomination"?

I hope our little girls don't aspire to be like her. The duplicitous one, she smiles and says I'm one of you (though I disagree because she almost no knowledge of the world outside Alaska) and then is all Grand Wizard inciting McCarthy-like hatred of 'the other.' She makes me sick.

Boston Irish   March 11th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

Michelle Obama is not a Politician, nor Caroline Kennedy. Why are they on the cover?

Chut Pata   March 11th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

"Hillarious" Hillary and "Palling with Terrorist" Palin are cartoons alright and they are perfectly place on the sides of Michelle to offset her.

However Caroline is nobody and therefore misplaced here.

Independent-Fred   March 11th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

I certainly don't agree with the political views fo all those pictured Nonetheless ALL of these ladies are strong independent Women.

It seems some on these boards can't fathom that concept..

Things are getting ugly out there folks...

Pelosi she be added. She seems to be the powerhouse in the WH these days.

Who would have ever thought it would take a black President to begin the equal rights process for women??? When the white supremacists pound on their chests about white superiority it should be noted they never tried to elevate white ladies as our President has since day one!!! He has signed equal pay legislation, advanced the ladies causes in his administration and now created a new office for ladies issues so where have all the white boys been??? As a white boy myself, I am ashamed it took so long for my mother, sister, aunts, grandmothers, etc... to have finally begun to gain the equal rights they have earned. So how about it white boys, where've you been???

Jeff Davis   March 11th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

Washington as a whole is pretty much one big "comic book" story! But to put Sarah Palin in there as a supposed "political super hero" is a JOKE! What would her name be? Wonder Woman is already taken! How about Wondering Woman? That would be my pick. Cause she certainly leaves me "wondering" why anyone would see her as relevant at all! And what would her powers be? Able to violate state ethics laws in a single bound? Faster than a speeding contraceptive?

Moderate   March 11th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

I think the point of the comic book is not to show their political views, but rather show that women can succeed too. I think this is directed towards girls of younger ages to show them that they can be just like these women. I think that the message that it conveys to the younger generation of girls is more important than what political women are in the comic book itself. So regardless on your views of Palin, Clinton, Obama, or Kennedy, let the true message be conveyed to the younger generation of girls that they to can succeed in politics and do not let anything hold you back.

Nice to see that women in politics are finally being recognized as something other than whipping posts for their male peers. Of course, I note that despite the large number of female Republican politicians, it took the better-late-than never Democratic females to inspire a graphic novel. i guess we can only acknowledge female politicians only so long as the Democrats can be made to take credit for them.

Bill in California   March 11th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

Despite what the back alley cats have to screech about it Sarah Palin IS the epitomy of a strong, independent, yet feminine WOMAN. ANY MAN would be proud to have her as his partner through life. And young girls have a REAL role model in HER. The GREEN is showing and it's not even St. Patricks Day yet.

Curious   March 11th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

Allegedly this comic book doesn't set out to glorify the female form, however how is it our current First Lady is the only person in the group showing any skin (is that a mini-skirt she's wearing)? Also, her upper region does seem quite defined in relation to the other women in the shot. It could just be me, but it seems disrespectful to depict the First Lady in that light.

greg in jax   March 11th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

i think their are aspects of each of the women that make them good role models for young girls.. i , being a progressive democrat, understand that their is always more than one way to tell a story, so their political affliations make no difference when it comes to this type of product. i just hope that their market value is not 70 cents to the dollar , just like republicans think they are worth in comparrison to their male counterparts..

equal pay for equal work NOW!

girls need good role models of strong intelligent caring women, because pop culture is giving them rhiannon, who is dissappointingly telling little girls, that as long as you love the guy, its okay for him to hit you. :( ...THAT is never okay.

What exactly has Caroline Kennedy done? The first lady is not a politician either.

To all of you who say that Palin is the villain: Why? Just because she's of a different party? We're all about breaking down stereotypes and prejudice except when it comes to political groups. Political bigotry is just as bad as racism and sexism. It's what's really tearing this nation apart.

obama-mama   March 11th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

That's nice but I'm sure they were "female force" type women that could go on that cover instead of Palin, Bristol maybe?

Jackie in Dallas   March 11th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg is a tireless behind the scenes "politician". That because until recently, she did not court the limelight does not make her a bad choice. She has fought tirelessly for education in New York and raised millions of dollars for education programs, she is an active lawyer, and she works on countless boards of philanthropic organizations. She overcame the tragedy of losing her father at a very young age, her uncle not long after, not to mention her brother, with whom she was very close. Because she does not have the notoriety of Sarah Palin, she is not worthy?

Excuse me, but who knew anything about Palin until summer of last year other than the 600,000 residents of the entire state of Alaska? Now we can't get rid of her. What is Palin famous for? Being a nobody selected to run on a national ticket, with ethics violations, contraversial opinions on sex education, rape, the environment, and slaughtering animals from a helicopter? THIS makes HER a superwoman? Sorry...NOT.

JimS.   March 11th, 2009 1:18 pm ET
