Chuck Norris for president … of Texas

If the State of Texas ever left the Union, Chuck Norris is interested in being president of the newly independent country.
If the State of Texas ever left the Union, Chuck Norris is interested in being president of the newly independent country.

(CNN) – Actor Chuck Norris has his eyes on the presidency, but not the White House. Norris wrote that he would be interested in becoming the president of Texas, if the state were ever to secede from the Union.

“I may run for president of Texas,” Norris wrote Monday in a column posted at WorldNetDaily. “That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.”

The actor claimed “thousands of cell groups will be united around the country in solidarity over the concerns for our nation” and said that if states decide to secede from the union, that Texas would lead the way.

“Anyone who has been around Texas for any length of time knows exactly what we'd do if the going got rough in America,” Norris wrote.

“Let there be no doubt about that.” Norris was a strong supporter of Mike Huckabee’s presidential bid, and he helped to draw attention to the former Arkansas governor’s campaign.

Hey Chuck, why don't you look up the Bushes while you are at it? I hear they are unemployed and looking for work . . .

Stick with acting, Mr. Norris . . . better yet, just keep hiding in the hole you crawled out of . . .

Yup, that's just the voice of reason we need, a right-wing actor talking about civil war. Really patriotic there, bucky.

Does Norris not belong to that patriotic group that gave us those wonderful bumper stickers: "America, Love It or Leave It" and "My Country RIGHT or WRONG!" So they have lost an election or two and their hypocritical ideals have been exposed and Mr. Norris's response is Texas secession or a god-inspired armed uprising by secret cells of "patriots" across the country...is this not treason???

Seriously, sounds like a terrorist threat. If he's not joking it sounds like he should be legally detained as a possible terrorist, held without any rights, and sent to one of those countries we send people to be interogated in.

If you guys are serious, then please, by all means, take Michele Bachmann with you. Tthe neo cons lose an election, so they'll just take their Texas and leave. Who knew, if we'd have just given them Texas...

I don't know whats worse, chuck norris saying this, or the posters saying they hope its true and texas does secede.

Although here in texas we do have the option to secede or to break up into smaller states the likely hood of that actually happening is minuscule. If texas had really wanted out, we would have broke off after the civil war or why not during the great depression? The idiocy of people continues to astound the senses.

To Arithmetic is Liberal: The South already looks like a cross between Honduras and Ethiopia. Remember, they have no water, severe droughts, immense poverty, education is a failure and there is a total lack of response to natural disasters.

Hey Accountability...Maybe you need to pick up the history book because Texas is the only state that can secede from the United States. It was written in when we joined the union and is the reason us Texans have the "attitude" we do about being from Texas. I got your back Chuck Norris.

Oh and just so ya'll know, it wouldn't be illegal if texas seceded, that option was left on the table and also the option of dividing into smaller states when we joined the u.s.

    To Accountability:

Secession is not illegal. It is actually a protected right in the consitution. Our four fathers "seceeded" from England. Any state has a legal write to seceed. The only thing the Civil War proved is that the country could be held together through military force.

The sad thing is that there are enough right wing terrorist cells to possibly secede a part of Texas. Some even have the capability to create a dirty bomb.

Clearly Mr. Norris has let his internet "celebrity" (actually lack thereof after the whole endorsing Huckabee incident) go to his head. Can we please start ignoring this moron? Seriously, as a member of the age group that popularized "Chuck Norris Jokes" I sincerely apologize for inflicting this idiot on the rest of the country.

I am a proud Texan, one that supports President Obama and I can tell you right now that Mr. Norris does NOT speak for me and if the crazy conservatives of my state decide to ever withdraw from the USA then I will definitely be moving out of the state.

The conservative republicans just keep getting crazier and crazier! Looks like we booted them out of the White House just in time!

Seems Texas' job is simply to pull the rest of the nation off balance – to be so far to the conservative right that the "center" is no longer truly in the center. I say, let 'em go and then we can all have a nice distraction from our economic woes by watching them try and form a viable nation. I'd sell tickets to that one. And then let the center get back to somewhere near the middle.
