Chuck Norris for president … of Texas

If the State of Texas ever left the Union, Chuck Norris is interested in being president of the newly independent country.
If the State of Texas ever left the Union, Chuck Norris is interested in being president of the newly independent country.

(CNN) – Actor Chuck Norris has his eyes on the presidency, but not the White House. Norris wrote that he would be interested in becoming the president of Texas, if the state were ever to secede from the Union.

“I may run for president of Texas,” Norris wrote Monday in a column posted at WorldNetDaily. “That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.”

The actor claimed “thousands of cell groups will be united around the country in solidarity over the concerns for our nation” and said that if states decide to secede from the union, that Texas would lead the way.

“Anyone who has been around Texas for any length of time knows exactly what we'd do if the going got rough in America,” Norris wrote.

“Let there be no doubt about that.” Norris was a strong supporter of Mike Huckabee’s presidential bid, and he helped to draw attention to the former Arkansas governor’s campaign.

Most everyone loves Chuck, including me, but this is preposterous. Texans are proud, but not always smart. Many of them are certainly hardheaded enough to try. I know many Aggies would fight for Texas–they certainly seem to put patriotism for Texas over that for the U.S. But how could they ever leave? Who would they have to play football against? It would be UT vs. A&M or Baylor for every game...boring! And who would take Mission Control? Like the U.S. would ever let that go. Let's get real.

Chuck better be careful. Talk of sleeper cells rings of home-grown terrorism.

If Texas ever did leave, though, I have to say, good riddance! Just make sure I'm gone before it happens!

If he was a liberal, he'd be crucified by now by the conservatives. When liberals scream they're moving to Canada the Right is all over them. At least they aren't trying to take part of the country with them. What a maroon. His acting career is in the tank (where is has always belonged) so I guess he's after the publiciity.

I am a born and raised Texan. I love Texas. Even with its challenges it is a great state. That being said, Chuck Norris is a dope.

Lets add one to those Chuck Norris sites:
When Chuck Norris speaks, stupid people collectively get smarter by default.

God bless Texas and the USA.

The GOP is out of its mind. Palin, Limbaugh, Steele, Norris, what else do they have in store? Maybe we could just give them the moon and let them set up their own little dysfunctional empire up there. Thank God Obama and the rest of the adults are in charge now.

It never gets old living in America. I have no words for how stupid people are. Hey, I hope we at least are going to have a trade agreement with Texas.

It is not sedition to suggest Texas could leave the Union. Texas is a republic and is allowed in its constitution the right to secede. The US should be united voluntarily not hrough coersion.

    Oh, great.....

That means long distance calls to my home state would become "international" calls. Thanks a lot, Chuck....

Just leave AUSTIN alone and let it be an autonomous collective. It's way too hip and trendy for your proposed "nation".

Maybe it can be a sovereign city-state .... like the Vatican but with no religion :)

Uh, Chuck? Do you realize that it was a guy FROM Texas who made things rough in America?

The new motto for the United State of Texas is "When the going gets tough, the Texans run away."

People everywhere should understand that if America was to break up and had individual states go their own way then where would that leave us? I tell you where we would be invaded from foreign countries. It is time for people to come together for the common good of man. We have the most flourished nation in the world yet we are destroying her because of petty indifferences and basic greed! Will we ever again join together as one? God, I only hope!
