Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin have split.
Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin have split.

(PEOPLE) - Standing outside his family home in Wasilla, Alaska, Wednesday, the 19-year-old Levi Johnston confirmed that the end of his engagement to Bristol Palin was mutual and decided "a while ago." But, he also told the Associated Press that the rumors on the Internet of why and how were inaccurate.

Meanwhile, Palin, the 18-year-old daughter of Gov. Sarah Palin, issued a statement through her mother's political action committee, saying, "Unfortunately, my family has seen many people say and do many things to 'cash in' on the Palin name. Sometimes that greed clouds good judgment and the truth."

To danielle – I love how you people want to call the Palin family "trash" and yet neglect the fact that Obama's mother had the same problems.

No hun, the difference is President Obama's Mom didn't parade around spouting Christian family values. I don't think people have a problem with Bristol Palin being an unmarried woman with a child. That's very common and sadly, happens to MANY families. The problem is Sarah Palin's obvious lack of concern for her daughter's privacy and the willingness to share their family "drama".

How you respect a woman like Sarah Palin? Personally, I never did and have even less respect for her now. The whole Levi/Bristol wedding was a complete sham.

My heart goes out to Bristol. She appears to be a sweet girl, who got herself into a very adult situation. I hope she can move forward and raise her son and be happy. As far as Levi...or whomever the father is...I hope that he's a part of the baby's life and does what he needs to do.

jallen   March 12th, 2009 10:54 am ET

Good, why would she marry such trash anyway?

Farrell, Houston, Tx   March 12th, 2009 10:53 am ET

A black guy says the baby is his and the Palins know this.

gary gpp   March 12th, 2009 10:52 am ET

I heard that the baby may not be his and is of a different race. That I don't have a problem with. What I have a problem with is that Republican Family Values b.s. that they spew. Oops, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

K   March 12th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Ok, so they issue a statement about a teen BREAKUP through the "Political Action Committee"??

Run Levi...run far and fast.

JT   March 12th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Levi Johnston, America's longest held political prisoner, has been set free. Good, the proliferation of Sarah Palin's genes should be halted at any cost. Run, Levi, run!

Rachelraye49 - MD   March 12th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Come on everyone we knew this wasn't going to happen. It was all a ploy to make it sound better for the (moral party). They are young and really just starting out in life. They will probably find their way back to each other. After all, they do have a son together. I wish them the best life has to offer.

Chad   March 12th, 2009 10:52 am ET

My sister got pregnant, and broke up with her boyfriend after the birth of her child. Their story never made it on the Political Ticker and neither should this one. Sad to read some of the comments, alot of angry liberals on this website.

SIMON, CANADA   March 12th, 2009 10:51 am ET

I don't blame CNN. Look at the number of Post on this article and tell me why they should stop following any news about the Palins. CNN is in the news business to have an audience plus some engagement and if the Palins do it for them, so be it.

bill   March 12th, 2009 10:50 am ET

Excuse me...but wasn't it Sarah Palin's PAC committee that issued the statement...which means her mother is the one trying to keep this newsowrthy....cuz otherwise...who gives a rat's azz?.....there are teen girls everyday having babies and no "baby daddy" around to help out. Sarah Palin herself has "cashed in" on this...and so has Bristol...cuz selling photos of the infant is what she did...so..they need to quit finger pointing...read a few books on etiquette and quit trying to blame the rest of the world for their lunacy!...the Palin family is very dysfunctional. Levi might wanna consider moving to the lower 48 to escape these nuts...

Scott, Tucson   March 12th, 2009 10:50 am ET

At least the baby know who his/her father is, can't say that for many of the inner city kids.

maya   March 12th, 2009 10:49 am ET

no surprise.
if your girlfriend is pregnant you dont get engage, you marry right away if that's what you want to do. specially if you are in a oh so-conservative family .

Jeff Davis in Pittsburgh   March 12th, 2009 10:49 am ET

This is news. Really....this is the best news we have to report. There is nothing else going on right now that this is making news. At what point is this entity 'CNN' ever going to realize that at the end of the day....NO ONE CARES ABOUT SARAH PALIN OR HER FAMILY! Hasn't that ship sailed. By the way, feel free to drop the Bush-hating stance. It rings hollow now. Should you be concentrating on your new president? If you and MSNBC dedicated as much time to Obama's presidency that you did to Bush's presidency well then my former point would be made.

Connie   March 12th, 2009 10:48 am ET

Best of luck to Bristol, Levi and Baby.

Shame on Palin for letting the whole world know her daughter's personal business. If she didn't parade them across the stage at the RNC and strong arm Levi into showing up, this wouldn't be news now.

I feel sorry for them and what their parents have done to them.

SC   March 12th, 2009 10:48 am ET

I think she is qualified for welfare. Why not? There is nothing that would make her unqualified. No education! No job!

Concerned citizen   March 12th, 2009 10:48 am ET

Are we shocked? Her whole platform was lies and a joke.
To think there are still supporters for her to run in 2012!Tells you alot about why the country is in the shape it is in and where it is going ..fast!

Ohio Man   March 12th, 2009 10:48 am ET

@ stevecarrick March 12th, 2009 9:53 am ET

This is a tragedy for all Americans. The Palins are "America's Family" and the media is out to destroy them.
............................................................................................................................

Are you serious?... and you need to get back in ur high chair and leave Daddy's and Mommy computer alone before you get in trouble again.. and put ur bibe back on before you spill ur apple sauce on ur blues clues shirt

Todd   March 12th, 2009 10:47 am ET

Wow, talk about hypocrits!!! Every one of you LIBs out there go off the deep end when Obama is questioned about anything – much less his family.

So, it's OK to put over 200 comments on the board about a young girl who's engagement is breaking off?? Wow, let's hope neither of the Obama girls get a "C" in school.....I'll post 200 comments on that myself!!!!!!!!!!!

Right Trash   March 12th, 2009 10:47 am ET

I needed a good laugh today, thanks.

bmicore   March 12th, 2009 10:47 am ET

Do the right thing as long as it is politically beneficial. If anyone thought this relationship had future should know past actions do not make future relationships last.

blogulet   March 12th, 2009 10:47 am ET

"cash in on the palin name?" haha what a joke . more like run away from the crazies.
poor kid good thing he got out of this mess. theywere only getting married so her mother looked good for the elections and for conservatives. thank god they didn't ruin the lives of three people with a fake loveless marriage.

Where Are You?   March 12th, 2009 10:47 am ET

You know, I'm really surprised that the Religious Right has not come to the aid of Nadia Sulemen .... the OCTOMOM .

She claimed she had all 6 invitro fertilized eggs implanted because she couldn't "destroy" life. I don't consider fertilized eggs "life" in this sense but they do.

I would have thought their fervent ant-abortion stance would have caused them to support this woman and yet we hear how she is having to struggle finanically and lacks helping hands to care for those premature babies.

Anyone besides me see the hipocracy in this as compared to what the Moral Majority, Family Council, Religious Right types have said before?

Is it because she has middle eastern lineage? Is it because she has black hair instead of blond hair & blue eyes? Is it because she has a Muslim sounding name? Is it because she is from California .... land of the wacos?

WHY?

TRUTH   March 12th, 2009 10:46 am ET

How is this any different from all of the Kennedy family divorces? Give me a break Liberals.

Kim   March 12th, 2009 10:45 am ET

C'mon, we could see this coming a million miles away. I wish Bristol the best, but I'm angry that the Republican party really thought people would buy into this apple-pie, All American cutesy family. Sush hypocracy. And has anyone else noticed that Sarah doesn't wear her Blue Star pin anymore now that she lost?????

mac   March 12th, 2009 10:44 am ET

Once mother-in-law to be lost the election, he knew he was off the hook.

Joseph   March 12th, 2009 10:43 am ET

they are not Kids they are old enough to fight and die in iraq or afghanistan, if they are kids then why do we send kids to war??? any pro war republican that refers to them as kids want to clarify this for me?

Linda from Minnesota   March 12th, 2009 10:43 am ET

These kids never should have been engaged, they are too young and if they had been forced to marry, it would have been a disaster. How many kids their age know anything about what they want to do for a career, what kind of person they want to marry? This break-up is for the better.

My first "love" was a bad boy much like Levi. First loves are always the one you remember and they are special. That said, I run into my first love from time to time and shudder to think that at one time he was the one I wanted. Now that I am older I realize what a mistake it would have been and how mismatched we really were. Sounds like both Levi and Bristol dodged a bullet.

And why don't we just leave these two alone? They are kids for pete's sake.

JW   March 12th, 2009 10:43 am ET

cnn turn into tabloid magazine, the Enquirer. It is not newsworthy at all. We have seen this every day in life. Just leave them alone.

Greg in AR   March 12th, 2009 10:42 am ET

WHAT???
The old man couldn't find his shotgun to enforce the GOP "Family Values"???
I am shocked!!!

shom   March 12th, 2009 10:42 am ET

did anyone think these two were getting married? it was a joke from the beggining! more drama from the republicans!
first mccain, then came palin, then jindal and finally bristol palin!
obama 2008/2012

JimBob   March 12th, 2009 10:42 am ET

i don't think levi will have to write a book to be paid. I think he was paid up front to agree to say he was the Dad. I guess the real story is "Just who is the dad or do they have any idea?"

carmen   March 12th, 2009 10:42 am ET

Pre-marital sex, children out of wedlock, exploitation of family for polical purposes, hypocrisy, and moose hunting - conservative values to the core. Never mind how the Palins live, it's what they preach that matters.

rlm   March 12th, 2009 10:41 am ET

What is she talking about? Using the Palin name, like that is used in 'vain' or something ! To cash in on what ? This family has delusions of grandeaur. I'm so glad that 10% of the Republicans think that Sarah is still a viable candidate. The next elections will soooo easy ! Let's just not talk about this dysfuntional family anymore.

kathy   March 12th, 2009 10:41 am ET

I think Sarah Palin herself has "cashed in" on her daughter's plight and tried to use her whole family for political gain. Bristol Palin isn't any different than the rest of the teenagers in America...unfortunately it was her own mother and her holier than thou attitude that put bristol/levi front and center. The great state of alaska has been duped by Sarah Palin and she needs to be impeached. It's unfortunate that this article has even been posted on the political ticker...i'm sure Sarah Palin looks at it as another way of keeping her name out there....she stood on her soap box and decried "family values"...yet it's obvious she didn't ahve any of her own...and if she did she didn't practise at home what she was preachin' on the campaign trail. I'd appreciate it if CNN would focus on the real news and issues and leave the trashy gossip for the tabloids.........how else is Palin going to continue cashing in??????????????

amf   March 12th, 2009 10:41 am ET

I agree....someone needs to explain how this is a political topic? It really should have been in Entertainment or "offbeat" news

Josh   March 12th, 2009 10:40 am ET

No comment – Just leave the young Lady alone.

J S Ragman   March 12th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Bristol is right about one thing, people have been trying to cash in on the Palin name. Those people are named Palin.

joann   March 12th, 2009 10:38 am ET

did I stumble on Entertainment Tonight's site by mistake? Let's leave the Palin kids alone unless they do something truly newsworthy, OK?

David   March 12th, 2009 10:38 am ET

Just one question: who gets the trailer?

Kathy S   March 12th, 2009 10:37 am ET

Who is surprised by this???? Not me.

Oski   March 12th, 2009 10:37 am ET

Hopefully Levi remains a father in the infant's life...

...And child custody/support arrangements, that's gonna be interesting.

chuck   March 12th, 2009 10:37 am ET

I guess Wolf Blitzer will be going to Alaska to do an interview with Sarah and Bristol Palin. I lost all creditablity for Wolf when he went all the way to Florida to do an interview with this idiot--Sarah Palin. Keep goingWolf!!!! going going gone.

Grace   March 12th, 2009 10:37 am ET

I just want to know is Fox news going to start refering to Levi as the "Baby Daddy". Fox called Michelle Obama a baby mama serveral times. It never matter that Michelle is a 2-time ivy league graduate who waited 5yrs after her marriage to have her 1st child by her 2-time Ivy league degree having husband. It's so funny how the right wingers feel this should be a personal issue but they KNOW they would call the Obama girls ghetto trash if the shoe was on the other foot.

Pot Meet Kettle   March 12th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Can you imagine if it were one of Obama's girls, or any Democrat's daughter for that matter? My Lord...the neo-cons would've thrown the Earth of its axis!

Just wondering...   March 12th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Why is the news? I caught the headline and had to leave a comment. I don't care that they split. With everything going on I'm guite sure there is plenty to write about other than this.

Sharon   March 12th, 2009 10:36 am ET

This was an obvious situation way back when her mother was the running mate for the vice presidency. The young couple appeared uncomfortable with each other and it seemed like a political ploy to validate her mothers right to life and marriage stance. Blah Blah Blah

KLK   March 12th, 2009 10:35 am ET

They definantly shouldn't marry because of the child. They did the right thing. Saw this coming a mile away though.

Frantastic   March 12th, 2009 10:35 am ET

No it isn't really news worthy, yeah I think we all had it pegged. this was for the adults to save face. No judgement. It's just nice to be right about something every now and then.

alreadytiredofit   March 12th, 2009 10:35 am ET

Shocking!

LAME   March 12th, 2009 10:35 am ET

Who cares? Is the Palin child K-fed an brittany all of a sudden? Let this girl live her life, she got enough to deal with being a teenage mother. Seriously.....aren't there enough REAL new stories??

Kim, Charlotte, NC   March 12th, 2009 10:35 am ET

karen-Phoenix   March 12th, 2009 10:34 am ET

OMG! And these people could have been in the White House. Thank you GOD for President Obama, his wonderful family values and VP Biden and his wonderful family values!!!! Radical right wing, wake up and see who truely is the "family value" party!!!

Mel   March 12th, 2009 10:34 am ET

They are children. Of course it didn't last. They've both already shown exactly how immature they are.

amber   March 12th, 2009 10:34 am ET

accidental pregnancy is never a good reason for a marriage. hopefully, levi will continue to be involved in his child's life even though things didn't work out with bristol.

SIMP   March 12th, 2009 10:33 am ET

@ danielle

what same problems did President Obama's mother have? If you are going to try to trash the Pressidents family elaborate on it don't just run you mouth if you don't have a legitmate story to tell. President Obama is not trashing this family it's idiots like you that's doing that.
What a CLOWN!!!

CNN i get sick and tired of you not posting my blogs, what's up with that?

itbeme   March 12th, 2009 10:33 am ET

@satevecarrick....

steve, if the failins are your idea of America's family, America is in worse shape than we thought. Or you need to get out more.....

The media didn't have to 'do' anything except report on the half baked alaskan.....she didn't need any help in destroying her family.

Pete   March 12th, 2009 10:33 am ET

It's very good that Bristol has an extremely wealthy and politically connected family. Normally, teenage single moms without a high school education and an absent father end up on welfare in permanent poverty.

crownsy   March 12th, 2009 10:33 am ET

why if i didn't know better, i'd say the whole engagment was a scam to fend off those pesky reporters pointing out the hypocracy of selling sarah's great family life with a soon to be unwed teenage daughter she neglacted doncha' know?

lol, what a women. pimped her daughter out in a fake engagment for polotics. and this is the person the GOP wants as the face of its party?

kennydarter   March 12th, 2009 10:33 am ET

Forget Levi's book deal...Bristol's kid will have a book deal by the time he's 12. "Growing Up Palin" will be a NYT best seller for ten years - documenting the trials and tribulations of a little boy forced to hunt wolves and Russians...http://hateonme.com

ATR   March 12th, 2009 10:33 am ET

Sarah Palin brought on this scrutiny when trotted out her pregnant teenage daughter with her "finance" for the world to see. Bristol cashed in on when she sold her baby's pictures to magazines for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not sure why people are so indignant about this being reported. Is the media only supposed to report stories that the Palins approve of and that portray them in the most positive light? Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

Too bad, So sad   March 12th, 2009 10:33 am ET

Can't say we didn't see that coming, but really – who cares? Maybe now conservative "family values" will become a "private matter" instead of a divisive wedge issue.

flybyshoeing   March 12th, 2009 10:31 am ET

Can someone explain why this story is on the Political Ticker?

Phil   March 12th, 2009 10:31 am ET

With all that's happening in the world (i.e. crumbling economy, new era of world leadership), why would anyone care about two kids who are breaking up after their kid was born? Is it really news to anyone? Let the families deal with it and the media stay out of it.

Axl in Iowa   March 12th, 2009 10:31 am ET

I could care less about Palin or Levi. Their personal live are n business of mine.
Obama, selling our country down the river, is my business and I think if Madoff needs to go to jail, so does Obama and the rest of Congress.

Greg Pottstown, Pa.   March 12th, 2009 10:31 am ET

We are now reporting gossip in the political column.

I love that you act like this is the first person to try to raise a kid on her own. Obama was raised in a single mother home but i don't see any of you attacking his mother.

mbranca   March 12th, 2009 10:30 am ET

Surprise, surprise......

Mac   March 12th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Wow! both look much older.

Soccer Nana   March 12th, 2009 10:29 am ET

What does President Obama have to do with this? This is a Palin Family issue, not President Obama.

Just because many bloggers are saying what they feel about this situation does not mean they are supporters of President Obama. Those are their personal opinions and feelings; and believe me, they are "religious" peoples thoughts.

Now, my personal thought is that Levi was not the first person this young lady had sex with and he simply just not feel obligated to pretend to have true feelings for her. He probably really loves his son, but he is simply not committed to Bristol.

zaphod2000   March 12th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Is this really news? We ALL knew they would never get married. They had to be together during the campaign to make nice to the governor and mccain.
But really, who cares? This happens every day to a lot of teenagers and high school dropouts.

Shawn   March 12th, 2009 10:28 am ET

I believe the Palin family matters should be private. What ever happend between Ms. Bristol and Mr. Levy is personal and we have no business in their affairs. They are young and I hope they can work something out for their best interest. My advice to all folks please give it a rest and not politicize every aspect of peoples lives.

WhoCares?   March 12th, 2009 10:28 am ET

I'm glad these two aren't being forced to Marry due to the political pressure her Mother put on them.

It will be better for all in the end.

Megan   March 12th, 2009 10:28 am ET

as if nobody could not have seen this coming. They were planning to get married when she was 17. Are you kidding me!!!! We knew this was a ploy from the parents to make it look good. He dropped out of school for goodness sake. Who really thought marriage was going to happen. Many of teens have finished H.S. and had children. he is no excuse!

August   March 12th, 2009 10:27 am ET

Oh brother! Please, she will not be the first or last person to have a baby out of wedlock and break-up with the father. People are making a news story out of something like this?? Give her a break, she deserves her privacy!

Cromwell   March 12th, 2009 10:27 am ET

I don't see why Bristol Palin's break-up is newsworthy.

The MSM should take the high road and leave the tawdry gossip and cheapshots to Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh, etc.

Susan   March 12th, 2009 10:27 am ET

She caved to either "If you really love me you'll have sex with me" or "Don't worry, baby, I love you and I'll always love you and be there for you," had unprotected underage sex, an now she's claiming to be a victim of exploitation of her mother's political career?!? (Of course, it's obvious that she didn't write that posting - it has her mom's "blame anyone but me" fingerprints all over it. Next we'll hear it's all part of the vast media conspiracy, which apparently set up a horny high-school dropout to knock up the governor's daughter solely to allow them to have a field day with it. Riiiiight.

John   March 12th, 2009 10:27 am ET

Is this news? Yes, this became news when Sarah paraded her pregnate daughter out in front of the media, world, RNC convention to promote her abortion beliefs. Seems as if the chickens have come home to roast.

LT   March 12th, 2009 10:26 am ET

as if nobody could not have seen this coming. They were planning to get married when she was 17. Are you kidding me!!!! We knew this was a ploy from the parents to make it look good. He dropped out of school for goodness sake. Who really thought marriage was going to happen. Many of teens have finished H.S. and had children. he is no excuse!

Willie   March 12th, 2009 10:26 am ET

Could we please put to rest the ridiculous amount of media interest and coverage that goes into this family? I don't care or want to know when they go to the bathroom, or change schools, or decide which cereal brand is best in the morning.

The media's obsession with Palin and the entire family just needs to stop. It is uninteresting, very un-newsworthy, and just plain pathetic.

Sanrina   March 12th, 2009 10:26 am ET

She is a "kid"! Could you please leave them alone?! Who cares about their lives?

maggie   March 12th, 2009 10:26 am ET

Oh no. Gasp. I'm so surprised.
Now we have still another uneducated, unemployed single teenage mother.
Guess it's the American way, eh Sarah?

Former Army   March 12th, 2009 10:26 am ET

Bristol could have had an abortion and america's gossips (hateful idiots) would have nothing to post here – if Sarah and her family were hypocrites (democrats).

Tired   March 12th, 2009 10:26 am ET

Why is this on here? This isn't news. This is barely gossip. With so much going on in the world why are we still paying attention to some 17 year-old's love life??

John   March 12th, 2009 10:26 am ET

Why do you libs hate these two young adults so much? They didn't run for VP, they are just trying to make it in this world. How is this a blow to conservatives again?

mag   March 12th, 2009 10:25 am ET

Sarah Palin is the cause of all these – she was never at home to care for Bristol.
When would she take her role as a strong mother as her first task, before running for president?

Dorothy Franks   March 12th, 2009 10:25 am ET

Come on, we knew from the beginning of the announced pregnancy that marriage was never going to take place ... Sarah Parlin just dragged the intended husband around on the campaign to make things seem all well and good. So much for her ideas on teenage pregnancy and lack of education in the schools.

Chad   March 12th, 2009 10:25 am ET

The only reason they got "engaged" in the first place was because the far right wouldn't accept a VP candidate with a daughter who got prego out of wedlock...and we all know it! I would have loved to been a fly on the wall of that meeting with Levi...Palin and her aides sitting the boy down to tell him "what has to happen." This is news because the US public was fed a bunch of crap during the campaign about this "engagment" and anybody with an ounce of smarts can see that this happened long enough after the last election but too far away from the next for much eye brow raising to be done. Sarah Palin is a terrrible human being...forcing a relationship for your political gain is terrible, not to mention it didn't work. I pray for the party of values!

John doe   March 12th, 2009 10:25 am ET

Palin was the one going arround exposing her kids even the poor little one with specialcare and braguing about being a Pro-life and the real consercative.
Should she left the kids home, nobody would have worried about her teenage daughter relationship.
Anyway I'm tired and sick of hearing about somebody else problem. let the readers of people magazine cover this. We have serious economical problems and CNN should be covering this instead of this bull***.

Tina   March 12th, 2009 10:25 am ET

To everyone who says leave them alone and the media is out to destroy this family, needs to read the article that clearly states "the 18-year-old daughter of Gov. Sarah Palin, issued a statement through her mother's political action committee..."

Yes, she ISSUED A STATEMENT about her personal life . . . which means, she alerted the media to this "news," as if it's real news. Here's the deal, Sarah Palin invited the public into her life and the lives of her family the moment she accepted the nomination and paraded her family on stage. That's how it works – for everyone. No complaints after the fact.

Although, I could seriously live my life very happily if I never heard from these people again.

Bmore Girl   March 12th, 2009 10:25 am ET

This wouldn't be a story if Sarah Palin didn't push her holier-than-thou conservative BS while running for VP. All those "family values" folks would have been screaming if this story was about the Obamas, but since it involved one of their own, they really rallied around her and tried to pretend everything was okay. Of course Levi and Bristol split. They're teenagers. They were never going to get married, and they shouldn't. They are far too young. Hopefully now Bristol has decided to ignore the conservative party and will use birth control in the future. I wish her and her baby the best of luck, because they are really going to need it. Single motherhood is hard enough when you're an adult, and even harder when you're a kid.

Brenda   March 12th, 2009 10:24 am ET

I agree with Samantha. Teenagers all over America get pregnant – have babies and the fathers don't stick around (20 somethings for that matter too). But for Bristol and Levi to have their lives put in front of the media because of Sarah's aspirations, I feel bad for them. I also feel bad because this child could have been adopted out – instead of being raised by a single teenage mom.

ConsiderThis, FL   March 12th, 2009 10:24 am ET

Sarah Palin is a disgrace for manipulating her daughter's pregnancy out of wedlock for her personal political gain. What kind of mother would flush her own daughter down the drain of personal ambition as has Sarah Palin. She is a disgrace. And to be a republican with the nerve of espousing "family values", what a total hypocrite and joke. And to think that she and totally incompetent John McCain received 40 million votes in the last election is a frightening reality for America. This whole situation is like trying to wash fieces with calogne.

CJ   March 12th, 2009 10:24 am ET

I love it. Die hard Palin supporters telling us to leave them alone. Yet, if this were a democrat who had this happen, suddenly, they would be pointing fingers, shouting "Lack of family values destroying the nation." Hypocrisy, thy name is GOP.

And to all of you "this isn't newsworthy" morons, its not like this is the only article out there. You read it. If you wanted to find out about the state of the economy, or tragedies facing the world, there are a host of articles you could turn to instead. It's only news because PALIN pushed her "family values" as if she had some sort of moral superiority. Her backwards thinking and inability to actually look at issues causes her "private life" to be even more exposed. And just the act of getting into politics itself allows people to be exposed.

Obama 2.0   March 12th, 2009 10:24 am ET

Their business, leave them alone.

Sniffit   March 12th, 2009 10:24 am ET

Cash in? If she had a brain in her head (which, admittedly, is unlikely given the evidence and her genetic makeup), she'd be scrambling to marry the kid so she could get rid of the name. It's like having a scarlet "S" for stupid branded on your forehead.

laughing in Texas   March 12th, 2009 10:24 am ET

why is anyone surprised about this? the Palins are trailer trash. Where are all the "family values" Sarah spewed during the election? Now she has a daughter who can barely vote with a child and no daddy! If this scenario of baby-daddy splitting had occured to a Latino girl in San Antonio or Eas LA or an African American girl in Detriot or Chicago, nobody on this thread would be saying "they're just kids, leave them alone". NO!!! You would be saying stuff like "there they go on Welfare"

Saboth   March 12th, 2009 10:24 am ET

Lol, so they hold them together for the election, then split afterwards, just for "looks". We all know the repugnicans talk big about morals and values and religion, but they are just like the rest of us in the end. The reason they are failing so hard right now is that is the ONLY thing they have to run on, and it is false. I don't go to government for my morals and values. I want less taxes, less intrusive government, and more freedom. Unfortunately, the current republican party is the exact opposite of all the above. So, despite being against welfare states, I am currently voting dem.

AD   March 12th, 2009 10:24 am ET

@ stevecarrick: I hope that was a joke. The Palins are NOT Americas family. They are in no was representative of the rest of us. The media is not out to destroy them. You might recall that the elder Palin was the one who paraded her entire flock all over the country (on RNC donor money and without invitation most of the time) during her sad VP campaign. She was the one forcing them into the spotlight. You can't claim certain issues are a private family matter all the while dragging the whole family onto the public stage with you. It doesn't work that way.

Politically incorrect   March 12th, 2009 10:24 am ET

People taking political advantage of this private family matter?
I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you.

brad in austin   March 12th, 2009 10:23 am ET

I hope no one ever shoves their "values" down my throat again. 10 years in a same sex relationship, but a knocked up breeder has a better set of values than I do. Absolutely disgusting, and we want her Mother to be the leader of this country...I don't think so!

Lefty Lucy   March 12th, 2009 10:23 am ET

How long before Levi sells his story to the Enquirer about what REALLY goes in the Palin household, what REALLY happened on the campaign trail etc..... Maybe he'll luck out like Edwards mistress and get a payoff to keep quiet.

chuck   March 12th, 2009 10:23 am ET

I guess Bristo will do a book deal through her mother's contacts to tell the whole story. A tell all,who knows??????

minnesota badger   March 12th, 2009 10:22 am ET

They are just like alot of kids who made a mistake. While it is unfortuate for them that their mother saw fit to drag them into the national lime light - everyone should try to leave them alone.

TM in CO   March 12th, 2009 10:22 am ET

Dave   March 12th, 2009 10:22 am ET

The real "white trash" is posting in this forum, just as they do everytime CNN gives them their 15 seconds of fame. This sort of situation doesn't deserve to be mentioned in public, it's a private matter and what really needs to be examined is why, when people have the opportunity to make an impression here, they insist on being total imbeciles, perfect examples of the population that lowers a civilization.

Joanne   March 12th, 2009 10:22 am ET

I am overwhelmed with NOT suprise...This couple is smarter than I thought. Marrying in your teens is not going to do anyone any favours, least of all the baby. Hopefully they can remain on a friendly enough basis to effectively co-parent their child.

Good for those two! Too much nonsense equateing sex to marriage.

SHIRLEY "60"   March 12th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Levi and Bristol are doing the best thing. They are both way too young and immature to compound their errors in judgement with marriage. Frankly, I feel Levi is being very smart not join the Palins in Sarah's quest to become president, just look back at the circus she created before, and will probably do again in 2012. Many may find her exciting, but I find that her type of ambition is scary and distrubing. She was really not qualified to run for vice president, possibly becoming president, and should have blinked before accepting old McCain's offer.

Franky   March 12th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Candace   March 12th, 2009 10:20 am ET

Gosh! Why don't you people get off of Bristol and the Palins! Bristol made a mistake...what if it were your daughter...what would you do? That doesn't make this family trash! They are good people! Why don't you worry about the people that are truly trashing this country!!!! Obama, Pelosi, Reid to name a few! That is what you should be screaming about! Of course, most of you on here don't have a clue what's going on in our country!!! You just like to use these posts as a way of showing your ignorance!

P. D.   March 12th, 2009 10:20 am ET

The hypocrisy of this is stunning. When my daughter had an unplanned pregancy and decided to keep her baby, my mothers religious friends were aghast. But when Sarah Palin's daughter admitted her pregnacy, How virtuous she became. What a crock.

Lucas Leverett - Nashville TN   March 12th, 2009 10:20 am ET

Anyone shocked?

Anyone?

.... anybody?

..... Bueller? Bueller?

Ravi   March 12th, 2009 10:20 am ET

Talk about a double standard. If Bristol and Levi were Black, they would have been demonized by the media beyond belief. But since they are not, their behavior is written off as being young kids.

Gracie   March 12th, 2009 10:20 am ET

Wow..... Governor Sarah Palin is unbelievable. She touted the so-called "perfect union" marriage of Bristol and Levi during the campaign, knowing full well these two young kids were starting off on the wrong footing with a baby as the "unifier".

Sarah Palin and her "First Dude" played the sham game during the campaign when it came to their PREGNANT TEENAGE DAUGHTER.

Sarah Palin is GOOD and HIDING and LYING about her own pregnancy, even having lied to her own family, so WHY should Americans be so shocked here?

A baby does NOT solve all the problems in a relationship and being YOUNG and IGNORANT about the REAL WORLD really just ads to the fire. Just look at the statistics. These KIDS don't have a clue, they are still learning how to wipe their behinds, and have NO concept of what reality is.

NOW....Governor Palin can add her own daughter to the high rising statistics of UN-WED mothers in this country. Bristol is NO different than all the other Jane and Sarah's of the world.

The fact that Governor Palin herself cut funding to programs design to help unwed mothers in her state, just proves how so-called Christian Conservatives are the biggest hypocrites. They point their "holier than thou bibles" at everyone else until BAM....., the tables are turned on their OWN family or their children, and then all of a sudden their lies and shame is OKAY, they find ways to "justify and make excuses their own sins." This "it's never my fault because I'm a Christian" mentality has been played out decades ago. Americans are not buying this garbage anymore.

How much you wanna bet the Palin Chain Gang is going to do everything in their power to prevent Daddy Levi from seeing his son. HOW much you wanna bet? Sarah and her First Dude are going to claim the father is a "threat, or made threats or is Unfit" to raise or care for his own son. You just watch and see.

Unbelievable.

Big John   March 12th, 2009 10:20 am ET

I wonder if it had anything to do with Levi's Mom being arrested for drug dealing...and pressure from the Governess. How pathetic, but I'm thankful the American people saw through her Sarahs stupidity.

Marnie   March 12th, 2009 10:20 am ET

Who cares, why not give the baby to a family who really wants a baby so that this girl can get on with her life without any baggage.

LIP   March 12th, 2009 10:19 am ET

Time for more Palin bashing by the Liberal far left.
"Let ye who is without sin cast the first stone lefty"

Timmy   March 12th, 2009 10:19 am ET

HA! The Palins...what a joke!

Lauren   March 12th, 2009 10:19 am ET

I'm glad to hear it, only because it sounded like she had no choice except to marry him. It's nice to know that now the pressure is off she doesn't have to. Some people do find love that young, but getting married because of a baby has led to so many unhappy marriages. Better not to get married now–if they're meant to be together, they'll figure it out.

I also admired her for saying that abstinence-only education is "unrealistic." That's something her mom should have learned from this.

Now that that's settled, I'd like her off my news. :)

Jakob   March 12th, 2009 10:19 am ET

family values....the core of the Republican party!
Tina Fey impersonated with the best "marriage should be something between two unconsenting teenagers"

Leah from FL   March 12th, 2009 10:19 am ET

By the way they interacted during the campaign – this is no shock.
I can't help but wonder how the media would have reacted if it had been an Obama girl – wait a minute – I know how -he and his kids would have been crucified!! Those Republicans – gosh darn it, wink wink.... actions do not follow words

jim Cal   March 12th, 2009 10:19 am ET

Palins are good people, I hope the best for them. I seems the obama people are really showing their TRUE colors by wishing bad or saying "I told you so" attitude. It's sad to pick apart a family because they stood up for and expressed what they belive in. Meanwhile their choice just keeps breaking promises, and spending.

Di   March 12th, 2009 10:19 am ET

Let we didn't see that one coming. It was evident from the beginning that the engagement was to satisfy the conservatives and keep them behind Sarah Palin. Next story!

nicolesuza   March 12th, 2009 10:18 am ET

Such lovely people. Here is what this looks like to me (could be wrong):

First, they use Levi to neatly tie together Bristol's pregnancy story. They trot him out and make the two teenagers, clearly uncomfortable, hold hands and lie about their impending marriage.

Now, they throw Levi under the bus, implying that somehow he was using them for their money and fame by sticking close to Bristol.

By the way, judging by Bristol's recent on-air interview, I don't believe for a second that this fairly articulate quote really came from her.

vinylrage   March 12th, 2009 10:18 am ET

don't agree with sarah palin on much, but i do wish her children ( and grand grand child) only the best. maybe this would be a good time for the public to give bristol et al at little privacy.

Joe   March 12th, 2009 10:18 am ET

Is Sarah Palin going to blame the sexist media for her daughter having an out of wedlock child ? This was so so predictable.

Randy Henrick   March 12th, 2009 10:18 am ET

The Alaska white trash show continues. How anyone could consider Sarah Palin as a legitimate national leader is beyond me. Her hypocrisy on pre-marital sex (both she and her daughter got knocked up before marriage) and censorship of books reflect not only her hillbilly values but her desire to follow Dick Cheney in ripping up the Constitution. This is not American Idol. She belongs nowhere on the national scene unless she wants to make porn movies like Nailin' Palin. As a leader, she is stupid (doesn't believe in evolution?), hypocritical, and an inciter of the worst emotions in people. If the Republicans let her anywhere near the nominating process in 2012, they are crazy.

EVOLVE   March 12th, 2009 10:18 am ET

Palin fan...NOT   March 12th, 2009 10:18 am ET

This can't be Republicans doing this. This has to be Democrats. Do you Repugs behave this way?

Simmy   March 12th, 2009 10:18 am ET

Sorry that it didn't work. All things work together for good.... Mrs. Palin should know this, since she professes to be a Christian. She should also know that you reap what you sow. When you sow seeds of gossip and innuendos, they come back to you. Stuff happens when one thrusts herself into the spotlight.

walleye   March 12th, 2009 10:18 am ET

You could almost predict this was coming. A 19 year old with raging hormones gets a girl pregnant, and did you really expect them to get married? So much for the GOP preaching about family values. How about getting your own house in order.

LB from FLA   March 12th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Anyone with a brain could see during the campaign that the "marriage to be" was never going to happen. Even Levi said after they paraded the two at the convention, he did not want to marry Bristol. Saying they were going to get married was a lie to cover Silly Sarah's a$$ and avoid the blatant hypocrisy criticism that is now inevitable. While I wish Bristol and the baby well, I hope this serves as a reminder to teenagers across this country that abstinence is not birth control. Bristol herself admitted this in her interview wtih Greta VanSustren, which further proves Silly Sarah is wrong and a hypocrit. How this women is considered a front runner for the GOP in 2012 is beyond me.

Tulsa L   March 12th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Never did believe in their engagment.......if they were serious they would have married before the child was born making him legitamate instead of illegitamate.........they could have still worked on their education being married........they were engaged to cover their far right conservative christian beliefs so it would look good for the poor excuse of a mother (Sarah Palin) while she ran for VP.......

Edward Blake   March 12th, 2009 10:17 am ET

This is continued proof of the failure of abstinence-only education. If these kids had just used a condom, then this wouldn't be an issue.

Samantha   March 12th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Even though i'm not a fan of Sarah Palin, I feel sorry for Bristol this child was thrust into this position by her Mothers polical aspiration that took front seat to the welfare of her family. I never thought they would get married they are too young.

EBJ   March 12th, 2009 10:16 am ET

when it was announced that Bristol Palin was pregnant the far right and religious right "Focus on the Family" bunch came out and circled the wagons of protection around her. As they well should have, but the problem I had with it is they NEVER did that for any other unwed mother that I saw. They always condemned them, calling the parents irresponsible and the mothers possible future welfare queens. Now perhaps they can see it's not only left wing and/or minority families that this happens to. Ms. Palins' child will be well cared for regardless which is more than you can say for many others in her position. Gov. Palin should never had put these kids in the spotlight as she did, Now they are fodder for the tabloids. I would bet right now somebody is out there ready to off er Levi BIG BUCKS to spill the beans on the Palins. They better hope he nor his mom will accept the offer.

MICK in MESA   March 12th, 2009 10:16 am ET

"Sometimes that greed (or lust for political power) clouds good judgment and the truth". Talking about your Mom here little girl?

Cathie   March 12th, 2009 10:16 am ET

This is really none of our business and really should not be news. There are so many people out there that have either had sex at her age or babies at her age that really most of you shouldn't even have commented on this. I had a baby at 18 and he is now 33 years old and his father and I are still together.

Most of you should stop and think before you react. Probably the majority of you have children in this position or a relative. Does that really make you white trash?

Caroline   March 12th, 2009 10:16 am ET

As a black woman, I am just grateful that Bristol Palin isn't black. Or from a liberal Democratic family.

danielle   March 12th, 2009 10:15 am ET

Hypocrite.

Beverly, NYC   March 12th, 2009 10:14 am ET

Stacy from Leesburg, VA? How is he a deadbeat dad? I didn't reazlie that short two articles told us he never sees this child or that he's not paying child support or doing whatever he can at this stage in life. I didn't realize that the ending of this relationship had evrything to do with him and nothing to do with her.

I don't care for either one of them, but think it's rediculous to dish out all this blame on him without knowing all the facts.

Nancy, CA   March 12th, 2009 10:14 am ET

I knew this would happen. It was a farce to begin with. The entire "engagement" was staged to cover Sarah Palin's behind. It was easy to tell these two young people were forced into the situation even at the Republican convention. I"m just glad these two found some courage and called an end to the whole fiasco before their lives were ruined even more by Sarah Palin's political ambitions.

Speaking as a liberal and dedicated disliker of Sarah Palin, I'd say it's time to leave these kids alone. If you want to find reasons that Palin shouldn't have higher office, her stands on the issues and dodges of the truth suffice. Forget the justifications, and leave the kids alone.

That relationship had no chance but the GOP in the name of politics helped perpetuate the myth.

Welcome Alaska to all of us rednecks..........Sarah should be ashamed for trying to be something she is not.

They are quite possibly the typical dysfunctional American family, but I could not be more thankful to know I have no relation to those people. They have mental problems that are probably contributed to bad genes. This is what happens when cousins marry, or perhaps when dumb marries dumber!

Blake   March 12th, 2009 10:07 am ET

Ha. This makes perfect sense. When there was a campaign going that hinged on her mother's appeal to conservative Christians, her unwed pregnant daughter HAD to at least be engaged to the father of her unborn child. Funny once the spotlight fell off the family, this sham of an engagement was dropped. Her daughter's statement also was invalid. How was anyone 'cashing in' on the Palin name by breaking off a phony engagement?! The Palin's are so self absorbed it is hard to see reality from so high up on their pedestal. I hope people see how they were willing to manipulate others to gain a political advantage.

RW   March 12th, 2009 10:06 am ET

Who cares.

Nat   March 12th, 2009 10:06 am ET

Who are they sleeping with now? When will we have a tell-all book deal.......bloody hypocrites!

At least Barack will try...   March 12th, 2009 10:06 am ET

WHO CARES!

It was bound to happen...Did anyone really believe they would marry? That was only for show for the McFalin campaign. Sad how this couple were unsuccessfully used as pawns.

Baby does not equal marriage...it's crazy to think it does.

david   March 12th, 2009 10:05 am ET

One has to wonder why the Old Media in the U.S. is not too interested in these stories of how Obama is dissing the Brits? Could it be that President Obama is not living up to the campaign promise that he’d “fix” our international relations and that truth does not appeal to the delicate sensibilities of the U.S. media?

NC Girl 07   March 12th, 2009 10:05 am ET

First of all, these two kids were probably not even together. It was just another GOP sceme to boost publicity of this Wonderful Family from Alaska, whom are like many American familys who live in trailor parks. This was BS from the start. This girl probably was pregnant for one of her Father's fisher friends, if not her Father!

Wally   March 12th, 2009 10:05 am ET

Is this CNN or People?

Doug Fisher   March 12th, 2009 10:05 am ET

If Sarah Palin can't teach abstinence and family values to her own children, she's going to have a hard time selling it to the American public in 2012.

GL with that notion Palin cultists. You may want to consider backing a candidate that actually stands a chance in 2012. (If any of those still exist in the republican party)

Doug from OH   March 12th, 2009 10:04 am ET

Who is Paris Hilton dating these days? She is more famous than this pair, she deserves more coverage.

Jim   March 12th, 2009 10:04 am ET

Shocker! Who could ever have foreseen that one coming?

Except maybe everyone in their right mind, I mean.

I feel sorry for the baby, though. Better to be raised by a pack of wolves...

Time for Term Limits   March 12th, 2009 10:04 am ET

This should not even be on the news. They are children.

drahcir61   March 12th, 2009 10:04 am ET

It's one thing to preach family values & another thing to actually live by them. The hyprocrisy of Sarah Palin & her family is astounding.

Gene   March 12th, 2009 10:02 am ET

Good luck to Bristol and Levi. In time I hope you two can wed and raise your child together, without the media.

Mark   March 12th, 2009 10:02 am ET

Pelosi and Obama are about to bankrupt the country and this is what cnn wants to talk about?

Kevin   March 12th, 2009 10:02 am ET

White trash. And, we were going to put these hypocritical hillbillies in the White House?

Proud Yankee   March 12th, 2009 10:02 am ET

Not news.

Baze   March 12th, 2009 10:02 am ET

ppppppwwwwwwwww!!!!! Those are some fine Christians, you bet'cha!!!

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   March 12th, 2009 10:02 am ET

no surprise and it probably happened long ago despite the summer marriage stories... what a PATHETIC LAUGH these Palins are.....

Sniffit   March 12th, 2009 10:01 am ET

@ Stacy from Leesburg, VA

That was sexist. You don't know the reason. If anything, it's probably more likely that the Palins decided his family wasn't worthy of a union with their daughter given his own family's troubles...not to mention the fact that Sarah has it in her empty little head to run in 2012 and it would be politically expedient to get this out of the way sooner rather than later.

Ron Foyee   March 12th, 2009 10:01 am ET

Young upstarts and brats of insignifcant fools that run for Vice Prez. of this country are only flashes in the pan during their lives of stupidity and boredom. If these insignificant dumb entities are all this country can turn up for newz, mabye Chuck Norris has a good point in Texas seceding from this Union. If that state does it, I am sure others will follow very quickly. The United States will then become the shortest country to have called itself a major world force yet blew it so very soon...only 233 years old is not much of a time span for a major country, eh?

Looloo   March 12th, 2009 10:01 am ET

Leave them alone.

ijoe   March 12th, 2009 10:01 am ET

to stevecarrick.."this is a tragedy for all americans.the palins are"america's family" and the media is out to destroy them !! dude i need some of what your sm**king lol.that's funny lol.

chuck   March 12th, 2009 10:00 am ET

We can now see the light to this break-up.This break-up had to take place if Sarah Palin wanted to be in the running for Presidency in 2012. Because Levi's mom was arrested on drugs charges the accusation of Sarah Palin palling around with a drug dealer was lingering out there, the best gift that Bristol Palin could give to her mother was a break-up with levi and this is what happened. Since the drug charges Sarah Palin was looking for a way out of this and this is sad for what she is doing. Using politics to break up a family will forever linger with the Palin's family. Sarah !!!You're not smart enough.

Mike from Ohio   March 12th, 2009 10:00 am ET

I think this demonstrates the level of fraud the McCain Campaign was willing to turn to in order to win an election. I saw right through this. The engagement was forced. They were never going to marry..or finish high school.

New Day   March 12th, 2009 10:00 am ET

Really? No one would know or care about this if the good Gov. hadn't made such a huge deal of her supposed moral superiority to us Northeast liberal elites.

Ever wonder why some people, who are hard-nosed conservatives, tend to mellow in their old age? I think it's because they start out thinking they know everything and they feel like they are better than everyone not like them. In the end though, life has a way of beating us all down and making us eat more than our share of humble pie.

Let's hope that Gov Palin learns this lesson... ...oh, and let's hope she picks up a book or a news paper once in a while, too. :)

I wish Bristol and, more importantly, her child the best of luck.

Gene   March 12th, 2009 10:00 am ET

Good luck to Sarah and Levi. In time I hope you two can wed and raise your child together, without the media.

Scott, Tucson   March 12th, 2009 10:00 am ET

I guess this is what CNN consider to be hard investigating news. How about digging into the causes of this financial crisis and demanding full senante hearings to find the culprits?

MAD   March 12th, 2009 9:59 am ET

Wow, imagine that. Wonder how many time this kind of thing happens every 30 seconds in the world...

A little sad   March 12th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Poor Bristol (no sarcasm intended). She, Levi and the baby really did not deserve to have their private life spread all over like this.

However, rather than blaming people "cashing in" on the Palin name, she should look to her mother.

Her mother chose to put the spotlight on herself, which inevitably spill over to the rest of the family.

Not satisifed with that spotlight, Ms Palin chose to drag her family around with her and push them front and center. She did not need to do that, she chose to do so.

I wish these kids the best. Bristol seems pretty normal and nice, Levi probably is too, although what little I've seen of him seemed more "deer-in-the-headlight" than any indication of what he'd be in person and relaxed.

And there is a baby involved – I wish him as normal a childhood as possible.

Lori   March 12th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Well, well, well. I guess the Palin supporters who are so much more morally responsible and holier than Democrats are eating their words now. Palin is a 'BABY MAMA!!! If Obama's alleged 'socialism' is a societal evil than so is single parenthood (at least according to the Republicans). Rush, Coulter, and the 'moral right', are you listening?

Thank goodness the Palin's aren't in the White House. Can you say 'white trash'? Can you imagine what kind of message they'd be sending to teenage girls in this country???

Stacy from Leesburg, VA   March 12th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Nothing worse than a boy running away from his responsibility. Any boy can make a baby, but it is a man that stays and raises it. I am certainly no fan of Sarah Palin, but I feel for her daughter on this. It appears that Levi is just another "deadbeat dad". Another sad story in our great country.

Accountability   March 12th, 2009 9:58 am ET

Wowe! I'm Shocked! So much for Family Values.......

Tony in Maine   March 12th, 2009 9:57 am ET

Why is this newsworthy?

I detest Sarah and all she stands for, but dragging a teen romance onto the front pages to titillate (no pun intended) a bunch of gossips is a waste of paper, airtime and bandwidth to say nothing of being cruel.

Betsy Cannon   March 12th, 2009 9:57 am ET

Well, there you go. Can this be a lesson to young girls about what they think of as "love" when they are so young. Young Miss Palin's earlier published statement about teenagers maintaining virginity being unrealistic–well, I'll just bet she could choke on that now. Young women, wait until you have the law (marriage) beside you before you give in to that urge to show your "love". What love is, in actuality, is caring for a person all your life even in bad times, and until you can do that, it is not "love". Miss Palin is now left with a lifetime reminder of what young girls should not do, even though I'm sure she loves her now-fatherless son.

TCM   March 12th, 2009 9:56 am ET

ok, NATIONAL ENQUIRER...I mean CNN, we're saturated with this young couple's challenges...

Let's have a good gossip story about Obama's relationship with Ayers or Biden's inability to function as a human being.....post the stories about those running our country that matter, not about two teenagers that don't need it...

Sniffit   March 12th, 2009 9:56 am ET

Who cares? This happens to thousands and thousands of teenagers who get pregos, jump to the conclusion that they should get married, then come to their senses sometime later. Then they and the baby become a burden on the household of their parents and on society because they were not prepared mentally, physically and financially to raise one yet. But hey, keep pushing that abstinence nonsense GOPers...we all know you want it to keep happening to the inner cities where the incidence rate is highest. Wouldn't want anyone getting all "uppity" after successful reproductive and family planning, now would we?

Eye-opener   March 12th, 2009 9:56 am ET

So, is Bristol saying that Levi was trying to cash in on the Palin name?

The fact that he was being forced into marriage by McCain's campaign in the first place really speaks of morals gone wrong on the conservative side.

well folks, we could've had an unwed mother in the White House-
but do you feel that's better than having the wholesome but black Huxtable first family we have now?

I know some of you do.

robin   March 12th, 2009 9:56 am ET

These kids have been put under a microscope. Many American families would not fare well under these conditions. Let them work out their lives in private. Many have been eagar to insert their views on something they know nothing about. Good luck to both young people and most of all the new child.

Adrian Veidt   March 12th, 2009 9:53 am ET

Will the li'l workin' man be paying child support?

Wood   March 12th, 2009 9:53 am ET

I think we all saw this coming from a mile away.

Kentucky Democrat for Obama   March 12th, 2009 9:53 am ET

And this is news how.???? I mean, things like this happen in the world everyday and..........oh right. I forgot. We have to keep talking about Sarah Palin because there is clearly nothing else important in the world. A bomb goes off in a city square somewhere, no biggie. Bristol Palin breaks up with her boyfriend..........STOP THE PRESSES!!! THIS IS NEWS!!!!!!!1

PLEASE REPORT ACTUAL NEWS!!!! I WANT TO READ THINGS LIKE THIS, I WILL WATCH DAYS OF OUR LIVES!!!!!!!

stevecarrick   March 12th, 2009 9:53 am ET

This is a tragedy for all Americans. The Palins are "America's Family" and the media is out to destroy them.

Nick the Photographer   March 12th, 2009 9:51 am ET

"Abstinence" and "Family Values" = EPIC FAIL!

Muz K   March 12th, 2009 9:50 am ET

Tell me something I don't know!

Larry from RI   March 12th, 2009 9:50 am ET

Hey, now there's a surprise!
Who didn't see this coming?
It lasted just long enough to get Sarah through the last campaign and thoughtfully far enough away from the next one.

windfall   March 12th, 2009 9:48 am ET

oh please. she's blaming her mother's career for having sex? when will republicans learn to take responsibility? they are constantly finger-pointing.
