Sales of Coulter's latest book appear to be far lower than her others.
Sales of Coulter's latest book appear to be far lower than her others.

(CNN) - Is Ann Coulter losing her mojo when it comes to selling books?

The conservative commentator, whose previous tomes have flown of the bookshelves, isn't having quite as good luck with her latest hardback, "Guilty: Liberal 'Victims' and Their Assault on America."

According to Portfolio Magazine, just over 100,000 copies of the book have sold during its two months on the market. While that number far surpasses most politically themed books, its sales to date rank far below those of other Coulter polemics.

Portfolio reports 2006's "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," sold 279,100 copies in hardcover, 2003's "Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terror," sold 396,600 hardcover copies, and 2002's "Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right," sold 333,100 copies and an additional 108,300 in paperback.

The comparatively low book sales come even as Coulter has mounted a high-profile publicity tour in recent weeks, including widely watched and heated appearances on "The Today Show" and "The View."

Coulter and Limbaugh are ACTORS creating characters, they have different real legal names just like any other hollywood entertainer.

The funny thing is, both of them probably voted for President Obama.

Why would someone pay to hear a right wing nut snivel, moan, and complain when you can hear them do it here for free?

Barbara, FL   March 13th, 2009 5:24 pm ET

I can hardly believe anyone bought her other books, seems like a goodly portion were publisher buy backs to inflate sales!

Nini   March 13th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

Nice try CNN.

You failed to mention that this book came out on the worst economic conditions in over 30 years.

Small point that was missed, I am sure it was an oversight since you claim to have the best political team and Oh you are not bias at all.

Point well taken. You are right. That was insensitive of me.

I just think something bad happened to them for them to have this much hate. That's why I don't get upset at them – rather feel truly sorry for them.

This woman is seriously demented. Her cruel comments about the 9/11 widows "enjoying their husbands' deaths" was beyond the pale.
She and that helium-filled blowhard Rush Limbaugh should just shut the hell up.

Ula Nejad Sacramento, Ca   March 13th, 2009 5:13 pm ET

The reason why America is in the dumps. She understands how culture and beliefs are entwined with politics and does a good job of knit picking what other doormats in the new White House women council are afraid to tread on. They rather attend special political occasion half naked to get attention. Ann is rare political genius. Shame there are few that is outspoken like she is even if it hurts at their left rib or whatever. She knows who she is and proud of the color of her skin.

Anti-Coultergeist   March 13th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

She's still selling a lot of books, but the big dip is clearly a reflection of the mood of the country – the number of people who want to read her angry, bitter, hateful polemics is dwindling.

Please do NOT be upset with Ann Coulter. Do not waste your energy on getting mad at her. Instead, thank God that you were not sexually molested when you were a child. Thank God that your parents did not hit you, slap you, yell at you when you were a kid. Cause if so, you would also have the same volcano of hatred in you as in Coulter, Limbaugh, O' Reilly and Shawn Hannity.

Please make sure you protect your children from any sexual molestation so they do not grow hatred of the above.

Not cool, 'republicans hate America'. That's not what we want to say.
Conservatives are real and true Americans too, and no matter how much they questioned our patriotism in the last 8 years, no matter how close liberals actually came to being silenced forever under Bush's Patriot Act and circumvention of the Constitution because of people like Ann Coulter, NEVER FORGET that conservatives are as much victims of fascist chicanery as anyone else, the only difference between us and them is that they fell for what the neocons were selling.

These are people who represent the poorest and least economically relevant wing of European descended Americans who believe that their destiny is to lie back and accept serfdom. THESE are the people our policies and beliefs will benefit FIRST, and outright contempt for them will not win hearts and minds, but only drive them away to accepting serfdom via their demagogues in the media.

Sorry to hear about sales. I better go buy a few more copies to give as presents to my liberal friends who need to be reading more and voting less. So glad we live in a free society where "dissenters" like Ann can still write books. If we followed current liberal thinking (used by some writers on this thread) people like Ann would be jailed for hate speech. So much for open-mindedness and adherence to democratic values, such as freedom of speech
-----------------------------

I am so happy to hear that you think Ann can write. I am happy to wish her success. The more she writes the less she infuences. Hate speech hopefully is on the wane. Disagree ,yes, by all means, but her brand of writing is down right mean and often pointless. But if the GOP continues to support her and others like her more power to them. They are writing a one way ticket to their ultimate dimise. God Bless America. All of us. RED and BLUE and Yes Even YOU!

"Funny Liberals," like Coulter, Limbaugh and other ultra-conservatives simply make up their own truths to suit their own bigoted, hate-filled beliefs. So far we've had more honesty and common sense from the current adminstration in 60 days than we got in all 8 years of Bush-Cheney.

The really sad thing for Republicans is that they're now even eating their own. (Limbaugh vs. Steele, Blackwell vs. Steele, etc..) They haven't the slighest clue that their "values" and beliefs no longer resonate with the majority of Americans and that's why they lost BIGTIME in the last election. The GOP is the "Party of NO."

Lee in Michigan   March 13th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Ann Coulter is one of the most hate-filled people I've ever heard. What could have happened to her to make her so mean-spirited? Maybe she would be more physically attractive if she wasn't such a nasty person.

Regular People   March 13th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

I love her books. They never have a single foot-note. Not a single reference or any research... ever. No proof that she's done any homework other than stew in her own hateful oozings for a while.

Nothing.

This makes every word she writes super-easy to refute with a bare whiff of research, reason, and common sense.

It really isn't that difficult for even a credulous person to check around and find out that she makes it all up... Unless one is so crippled with emotional insecurity that they need to believe this rubbish.

Claude,Calgary AB   March 13th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

EBJ   March 13th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

Lee in TN   March 13th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

Americans are beginning to realize a few things about "neo-cons" :
1) They claim to have the high road on ethics and morality, but don't travel on it. 2) they prey on people's fears to get elected, yet have put America in more peril with their international arrogance. 3) they rail on sensitive issues such as abortion to get elected, yet do nothing about it. 4) their de-regulation policies and faith in big business to always do the right things, have gotten America into the current mess we are in. And last but not least, America is realizing that folks like Coulter and Limbaugh are good at bashing and tearing down folks who are doing trying to fix things, but have no plan themselves.

Comedian Ann Coulter just isn't funny anymore is all. Like Andrew Dice Clay, Ru Paul and Neal Bortz she has joined the list of outrageous comedians about whom people finally have to themselves "We laughed at THAT?"

The pitiful thing is that there are people that ACTUALLY THOUGHT SHE WAS SERIOUS! I know it is hard to believe, but looking at some of the posts on this thread, it is sadly true.

It is rumored that some people actually think Rush Limbaugh is for real. I don't believe it though. No one could be that stupid.

The Ann Coulters of the world make the best-seller list because right-wing organizations buy their books in bulk to prop up their sales and make them look popular.

I have found at least three right-wing websites that are offering Ann's book as a "free gift" if you subscribe to their newsletter or donate money to their cause.

Ann Coulter is irrelevant.

Jill   March 13th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

Scott   March 13th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

The problem is that her books are all the same. It is as if she rephrases her entire book, and publishes it as something original. As a moderate Republican, this is good news to me. Pragmatic, moderates need to regain control of the party from dogmatic, ideological, right-wingers such as Coulter, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity; the latter two's claim to authority must be their high school diploma.

geecee   March 13th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

Glad you haven't closed your "comments" yet to this item. She is just plain hateful and her distorted views are detrimental to the stability of this country. She is divisive and polarizing (means the same thing anyway). Nevertheless, I would have liked to see her and Bill Maher on the same stage together! Heard they were traveling this week. I cannot imagine he would even be within 1000 yards of her. It must have been something to see these two sparring. Anyhow, I hope she drops off the face of the Earth really soon. Sort of like Jerome Corsi did.

Democrats and "liberals" don't have an equivalent to Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, or Sean Hannity because *we* don't accept that kind of hate speech. "Conservatives", the supposed Christians, do accept and revel in hate. Liberals are inclusive and uplifting, trying to actually help people. They may be spending too much money, but they are trying to help. Not one Republican has made any overtures or given any idea how to help the economy, Coulter included. All they do is criticize the other party, and not once offering any solutions.

Ricky   March 13th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

I imagine her first books didn't do much better at this stage either. I bet most of her sales come from conservative outlets that buy up these books and then sell them for a $1. I ordered a book from one of these conservative outlets a while back and have since been inundated with offers for a huge slate of conservative books that I can buy for $1. Unfortunately they aren't even worth that, especially Coulter's lies and hyperbole.

Joanna   March 13th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

Ann is clearly an idiot. She claims we are anti God. We but love all, not just the people that fit into boxes they deem acceptable. We do not hate gays, or single mothers, we believe in government staying out of our personal choices. We understand that at times we need to help others and not be selfish or greedy.
Come out of the closet and join us Ann, you will be so much happier inside.

Perusing-through   March 13th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

NO SURPRISE . . . hatred thrives in dark minds but falters under the light of day. Like a dope-pusher, Ann has been pushing her addictive concoction of hate & venom for too long; and finally the light of HOPE and CHANGE are confronting her infestation of germ carrying GOP cockroaches.

I am soooooooo tired of the Rev. Wright diatribe from the right. Yes the man made some inflammatory speeches....however he has also made some truly inspiring and brilliant ones!! Yet we never hear of those or see clips of those. Only the 20 seconds of railing at America. Well I would hazard a guess that many people of colour of his generation feel the same way – I certainly would. Ann Coulter has yet to say anything inspiring and she outright lies – being a liberal means being a traitor??? Oh really??? JFK could hardly be called a traitor – or does Profiles in Courage not ring a bell?

Are they actually comparing two months worth of sales versus two months worth of sales or with a year or two years of sales? And does the collapsing economy really have NOTHING to do with the drop in sales? This is ridiculous. There's no analysis or critical thought behind this story – it's just a way to attack Coulter, which is really quite pathetic for a news organization to be doing. That's not to say that I like Coulter or would ever be caught even flipping through her books, but this type of reporting is deceitful and irresponsible and has no place in this arena.

Doug from OH   March 13th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

Harry is right. All the personally hateful talk usually spews for the liberals. Just look at Stewart, Olberman "worst person in the world", I could go on and on.

Willy G   March 13th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

Ann Coulter's days are numbered.

After Rush gets done with Michael Steele he will go after Ann.

There can only be one spokesman, one leader of the socially conservative Republican Party and that is something Rush Limbaugh will share with no one.

Don   March 13th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

It is people like Ann Coulter, Rush Windbag and Sean Hannity who are killing the republican party with their constant spewing of hate filled half-truths and distortions. She cannot really expect people to believe all of our problems were caused by liberals, when liberals only make up a small portion of our population. It also is hard to give her much credibility when conservative republicans have occupied the white house for the past eight years and also controlled congress from 1995 until 2006. If her conservative ideas are so great, why are we now in economic predicament we now find ourselves.
I was a republican for 40 years, but can no longer support this party of right wing dialogues. We need to pull together as a nation, not work to divide the nation like Coulter and her friends are trying to do.

Joanna   March 13th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

The woman is clearly an idiot. She may be a lot happier with self if she just came out of the closet.

hobart   March 13th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

Her books sell between 1 and 4 hundred thousand per title? That's it?! Let's see, there are 306 million people in the USA, 169 million registered voters in the 2008 Presidential election, and McCain got 58 million votes. If we divide how many copies of her last book sold by how many voted for McCain, that's only barely 2 out of every 1000 Republican voters who actually bought her book. Although I can appreciate that those numbers can make a bit of money for an author,the vast majority of us simply don't read her stuff.

Puddytat   March 13th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

When people are taking jobs that pay less or losing jobs ... AND SO MANY ARE ... books at the cost of $30. a po is not something people choose over grocery items .

Kathleen   March 13th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

I think that Ms. Coulter–like Mr. Limbaugh–figured out a while ago that being a controversial extremist is profitable. It's not having controversial and extremist IDEAS–that would take thought and reasoning–it is BEING controversial ane extremist. That she is a blond white woman adds to her brand. Like most brands, she advertises herself with shorts memorable quips.

It's a free country. She can say these things and we can listen or not, or even protest her remarks. We can buy her books or not. But for a free country to be a democracy requires dialogue, not shouting matches, not propaganda, not rigid ideology–and there is no dialogue with extremists, left or right. That is where the danger is.

Gee. Did they do a story like this on CNN when Pelosi's book didn't even sell 1000 copies?

Cool Breeze   March 13th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

HA! I knew Coulter's book sales would plummet once her looks started going. Conservative men will have to find a new pinup to secretly fantasize about.

Samuel ( from Seattle)   March 13th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

Wow, you know what’s crazy? Her new book is about how single mother ruined America. Does this mean she hates Sarah Palin daughter, now she is a single mom? But I got to say, she is great to look at as long as she does not open up her mouth. That’s what the ladies on the View told me.

I hope they post this one.

Have a nice day

JL, Texas   March 13th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

She is so irrelevant and boring. I think deep down she is a raging liberal who has found out a clever way to make money. Think one logical thought but say completely the opposite when you open your mouth! (That will grab someone's attention).

MW   March 13th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

Have people finally come to their senses and learned that Ann Coulter is a big mouth looking for dollars only. She is what Rush often refers to, as a "feminazi". Poor Ann.

Sheila   March 13th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

No one, liberal or conservative, should take this woman seriously. These people make their living on the divisiveness of both groups. I am dumbfounded that a right thinking person would spend money on a book publishing hatred; obviously playing to the ignorance and base feelings of others. Her views are unchristian and uncharitable. Everyone should take a queue from me, whenever I see her on TV; I just pick my remote and change the channel.

Fred the Moderate   March 13th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

The days of the nasty attack based GOP is over. lies, obviscation, ruling by fear, smear tactics and other divide and conquare stratigies founded by Lee Atwater and Karl Rove are over. America woke up! It took the bush administration to stick a fork in it.

I will be relieved to enter an election season where I don't have to hear mud – mud – mud. Just give us your position, the facts and your solution and we will figure out the rest.

There will always be a market for writers who criticize politicans who misspend taxpayers' money. Today the local paper here in Boston is citing the Democrat governor for giving a supporter a ridiculous job with a six-figure raise and for Democratic legislators who are rigging the pension system to steal millions. As newspapers disappear we need someone to keep politicans honest, even someone as over the top as Coulter.

Klaus   March 13th, 2009 12:50 pm ET

Dumas McGee, Rasmussen is at odds with every other polling outfit. Given that he's desperately writing editorials pushing GOP talking points, he's putting his credibility into question.

Preaching to the choir is a pandemic affliction – fame and fortune for the preacher – and certainly of no use in enlightening the choir. We have a glut of such entities, and they have provided no realistic solutions to any of the challenges we now face.

Reading books that agree with your perspective is a certain way to learn nothing. Why not just read the same book over and over?

I read every view I can find, but immediately toss those that contain terms such as neocons, left-wing radicals, socialsts, Christian right and such. The use of these terms almost guarantees the perspective to be based on purely emotional elements that are of no use to me.

Frankly, I don't care how you feel about Ann Coulter or Nancy Pelosi – I care very much what you think about them. I've listened to them both, and have decided that neither could provide an objective view on much of anything.

sgj   March 13th, 2009 12:49 pm ET

You know how you get back at people like Ann and Rush... two words Bit Torrent!

Hey right wing nut jobs the internet is going to get you again. Plus the internet works on Sundays ... Ooooh!

Face it your ideas are old, your arguements are even older, "Red Scare", "Iraq-9/11 connection" scare,... and currently "Obama = Socialism" – do you even know what it means? Ofcourse not you live in your bubble and never ventured out into the world and just listened to understand why people think the way they do.

America has great strength undoubtedly but it doesnt have a monoply on answers on every issue.

The extreme rght wing is fundementally too greedy to survive in the new "open source society".

The republican's only hope is to let moderate republicans come to the forefront..... unfortunately you have a lot distrust to overcome.. but you reap what you sow.

dan   March 13th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

I would question whether she ever had any mojo to begin with? Just another hater-entertainer, who plays fast and lose with the facts, when she can be bothered. Snake oil saleswoman of this century.

Mari   March 13th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

Proudly I say: "I never have bought one of her books and have never been tempted to..."

Anna PA   March 13th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

Ann Coulter and all like her are the worst of the worst kind of person. She abused the fears and uncertainty of the American people after 9/11. Everything we knew was turned upside down after that horrible day. She is just such a disgusting person she used the situation to make money for herself by selling an idea that divided our country in two. She helped to turn countrymen into enemies at a time where we all needed to be standing strong together.

So it is really hopeful to see her sales dropping. Because hopefully that means more people see that us fighting each other is just not the answer to any of our problems. For our country to be succesfull both Republican and democrats alike need to work together. I'm a democrat but see how some rebuplican philosophies can work to improve our country. We need to intertwine the philosophies of both parties to get to the best solution.

Please, don't forget how coulter attacked the widow's of 9/11. If that doesn't say piece of crap human being I don't know what does.

Keep talkin' Ann, and we'll switch a lot more Republicans to the left.

MBFLA   March 13th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

Gosh, it's a shame her fellow righties and the free market economy folks who don't believe in corporate regulations have put a "slight damper" on consumer confidence"! I'm sure she will find a way to blame liberals and Obama for this too.

Shucks   March 13th, 2009 12:42 pm ET

I am putting her right up there with the other acclaimed nutcase Mr. Norris. People are so sick and tired of hearing the conservatives in America bash anyone who doesn't believe in their divisive, racist, terror tactics. Her interview with Matt Lauer showed just how big an idiot she really is. She is the second in command under Limbaugh when it comes to ruling the republican right zealots. I say give them all Texas, Norris can be president, Coulter can be princess, Limbaugh can be dictator, and George Bush can be the court jester. Make them a non-nuclear power, give them lots of guns and bibles, and watch them all destoy each other in a week. With egos like theirs, it would proabably be shorter.

Sea.gem   March 13th, 2009 12:41 pm ET

Gotta love all the liberal hypocrisy on here...keep preaching "tolerance and inclusion" while you spew out hatred in your comments...but I luv ya...if it were not for you it would be more difficult to define the word hypocrisy

Rob   March 13th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

I love her. She and Rush are ripping the GOP apart.

Keith   March 13th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

I'm no expert on book sales but this article seems misleading. If Coulter's previous books sold around 300k copies –total–, and this book has sold 100k –in 2 months–, isn't that on par or better than the previous books? Am I missing something or is this article just an attack piece in disguise?

Harry   March 13th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

I think she acts like most crazed liberals. People are just so suprised to see a conservative attack someone personally that its shocking. Conservatives debate the issues while liberal usually attack the person. Just pay attention and you will see it every day.

Jason   March 13th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

Schneider (D) - CA   March 13th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

I am not sure exactly what her favorable/unfavorable rankings are, but I can guess that they mirror these figures:

Obama 68% Favorable
Ted Kennedy 56% Favorable
Democratic Party 55% Favorable
even Congressional Democrats have 43% Favorable

meanwhile…

Bill O'Reilly 52% Unfavorable
McConnel 53% Unfavorable
Boehner 55% Unfavorable
Rush Limbaugh 64% Unfavorable
Republican Party 66% Unfavorable
Geo. W Bush 68% Unfavorable
Congressional Republicans 71% Unfavorable

Boehner and his congressional GOP co-horts have favorable rankings in the TEENS!!

So, yes, Mr Coulter, please keep spewing your venom talking about how the majority of the country you claim to love are treasonous, godless and liars. It is brilliant men like you that have made America a progressive, Center-Left country. Thanks!

Michael M. Noonan   March 13th, 2009 12:32 pm ET

Ms. Cpulter will be around for a long time. And regarding Ms. McCain, she is the same as her father, a Republican only, not a Burkean conservative. And what are Meghan's credentials for being a spokesperson for anything other than her blog. Sen. McCain must cringe the same way we did when he got the presidential nomination.

Panther1   March 13th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

50 years from now, I think we'll find that history will cast the far right as a group of narrow minded nutjobs. These people, and their philosophies, which undercut in so many ways the teachings of the New Testament they purport to live by, will be the object of amusement, if not disdain, but never respect or admiration. Coulter can write and Rush - what a great name for a junkie - can spew hate, but in the end, it's all just a minority, extremist viewpoint that turns off most americans and ultimately will come to be despised by our society.

Joe in Austin   March 13th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

bad economy means bad book sales. no surprise. it means nothing. McCain has it right, saying Coulter is "hateful". that means something.

DaveW   March 13th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh are both political pornographers. Their viewpoints only appeal to the baser instincts and one eventually grows tired of the repetition and lack of substance.

I'm all for an intelligent exchange of viewpoints between liberals and conservatives but the fire-breathing name-calling antics of these two has worn out its welcome.

I hope Rush doesn't take up wearing spaghetti-strapped cocktail dresses as well!

Underpaid Wonder Woman   March 13th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

To Matthew in Detroit: You ask, “Why is it the goverments job to save you.”

I would submit to you that while it may not necessarily be the government’s job to save us, it IS the government’s job to not cause us harm. The last 8 years proves that government can cause us LOTS of harm. Not everyone who is hurting today is in that state because they were lazy or expected handouts. There will always be those who want something for nothing, but many responsible, hard working Americans are getting laid off now because of our government’s negligence in protecting the people of this country from liars, thieves and cheats.

When everyone does better, EVERYONE does better.

Eric M   March 13th, 2009 12:26 pm ET

Oh no, she only sold 100,000 books in hardcover during an economic downturn. That'll teach her!!

Seriously, people who hate her but buy her books are busy buying Obama books (and there are a TON on the shelves). People who love her, they've continued to support her...and the book hasn't been out very long.

I can see the Lilberals are on a rampage today. Guess we have Ann and you guys have Rev. Wright & Ayers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rev. Wright voiced his anger at the injustice that has been committed against minorities and people of color over the course of history in this country. And as a Christian American who is not Black, I say that he is right.
Ann Coulter voices her anger at the fact that Conservatives can't exist while enjoying the blessings of their Caucasian racial birthright and bastardized European Christianity without being 'forced' to acknowledge that Minorities, Jews, Arab Americans and other global minded intellectual people actually exist in this country.
Sniffit   March 13th, 2009 12:25 pm ET
My old truck just gets AM radio, so I listen to hannity sometimes on my way home... here are my observations of hannity...
I listen to his show and he wraps himself with patriotic songs and words, even though he is somewhat hateful.
If there is even a scent of him being proven wrong, he will either argue or interrupt continuously.
He can't bring himself to come up with good ideas instead of bashing current ideas
He denies that 8 years of bush has hurt us all
He claims that the Democrats have done this to the economy in the two years they controlled Congress, even though nothing got done due to Bush.
So, WBN... you have listed three hateful people that don't listen to anyone except for their giant egos.
Vote your local Republican out!
Ernie   March 13th, 2009 12:21 pm ET
Sadly, all of the Coulterites that are leaving comments here are just spewing back the very hate-filled talking points that she creates for her books. No critical thinking here! Too much work. Just spew it out from memory, while their ditto heads bob at Rush. Can we say lemmings?
Steve   March 13th, 2009 12:21 pm ET
The reason her books sales are off is that her audience ran out of crayons. Or possibly became distracted by a bright shiny object somewhere.
Andrew   March 13th, 2009 12:20 pm ET
I can't decide who has the most unpleasant looks, voice and attitude- Ann Coulter or Nancy Grace.
Ann Coulter is a symbol of what needs to go in this country. she neither represents legitimate conservatives nor a sane point of view. She represents the lunatic fringe and her own narcissm and bank accounts. Maybe some of the lemmings who have rushed to buy her vitriol are finally getting the message that they have been used!
Dean   March 13th, 2009 12:19 pm ET
Anybody who really believes there is a liberal media bias must be getting their news from the National Enquirer. CNN is strongly and selectively right wing conservative, in case you need a hint.
Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Member   March 13th, 2009 12:19 pm ET
Big deal...her book sales are down, but it still sells more than most politically themed books. Its like trying to make news that Fox News ratings are down, but they still kick MSNBC and CNN's butts in terms of viewers. Give us some real news CNN.....for once please.
walleye   March 13th, 2009 12:19 pm ET
Well 100,000 Coulter books is not bad. I guess all these people need kindling for their fireplace. That would be the only reason to buy this hateful drivel. I think Chuck Norris may have kicked her in the head during one of his shows.
Patty in the CA mountains   March 13th, 2009 12:19 pm ET
As Keith Olberman said last night, "it's morning in America" :)
Ghost   March 13th, 2009 12:18 pm ET
Never listened to her, but her book titles pretty much speak for themselves. Another nutjob screaming at the top of her lungs about entitlement, welfare and this victim mentality.
Again, why are people so worried about some loser getting $200 a month on welfare as opposed to say.....a few million in cash being "lost" in Iraq, or politicians that come into office broke, but leave filthy rich.
My point is that there is blame on both sides. Conservatives talk a good game, but all they really do is shoot themselves in the foot. I can't stress this enough.....tax breaks are a form of socialism and corporate welfare. It's taking money from one group and giving it to another. So why are you more worried about that guy getting $200 as opposed to the company that is getting millions in tax breaks for sending jobs overseas? For keeping wages at 1996 levels while pocketing the profits? For giving CEO's millions in pay and incentives while laying off thousands? For no bid contracts given to companies for work not being done or done extremely poorly?
ZELDA   March 13th, 2009 12:18 pm ET
I agree entirely with "cnnnewser". It is incredible to me how some people listen to lies and distortions and then buy the books these propagandists write. The Anne Coulters and Rush Limbaughs of the world, like Joseph Goebbels, finally get their due – they are found out to be empty liars and evil people, and then they drift off into historical obscurity and anonymity having contributed nothing constructive to humanity; they only fill their own money coffers playing on the ignorance, fears, and prejudices of human nature.
JG   March 13th, 2009 12:14 pm ET
Ann Coulter on the View-I heard Whoopi Goldberg on Leno about Ann Coulter ....and it has some merit ....no one can be that off the mark so it is just her act . This is what she does !
Every entertainer has a schick, this hate filled rhetoric is hers, It has worked because many hate her ,some on the far right love her...but we all know her!
But what she has done to the far right cause has caused more harm than good. Thank goodness people are starting to see through her.
She deserves a come down since she thinks she is above the fray like Rush!
Steve in Louisville   March 13th, 2009 12:13 pm ET
Isn't the Coulterguist really a man?
I think there's a web site devoted to exposing this. LOL
@ WBN, who said "No liberal can interest anyone in a book (like Ann), on radio (like Rush), or on TV (like Hannity)"
Really? Why don't you look up Obama's book sales figures and then we'll revisit that claim.
Joe The Plumber   March 13th, 2009 12:13 pm ET
For the sake of the nation, Joe, please lay some serious pipe and give her a sense of calm satisfaction.
Michelle   March 13th, 2009 12:13 pm ET
It's amazing that she sells any books at all. Her followers are mostly illiterate. They probably pretend they are reading it while they sit outside their trailers eating pork rinds and cleaning their shot guns.
GR   March 13th, 2009 12:13 pm ET
Because we all know that book sales couldn't be off because of the economy. In fact, look at other book sales, I'm sure they are soaring! Hum...how curious, they are off too. /sarcasm
Fourth Stooge   March 13th, 2009 12:08 pm ET
Excellent reporting. Ann Coulter writes yet another best seller. The headline reads "Book sales off." It makes perfect sense.
Liberals need a to lighten up. The woman is funny (and sharp). Learn to laugh at yourselves.
TRUTH   March 13th, 2009 12:08 pm ET
People typically do not buy as many things during a recession. This story is clearly just a ploy to make Coulter appear ineffective. She is far more intelligent than any Liberal author and sells far more books than they do.
joel palmer   March 13th, 2009 12:07 pm ET
Ann Coulter is emblematic of the rabid right; nothing to say and plenty of venom to say it.
She and others of the same stripe are the anti-Americans who espose the beliefs of hatred, bigotry, hypocrisy, and malevolence in order to make money. They do not have a sincere or principled bone in their spineless bodies
jerry   March 13th, 2009 12:07 pm ET
That’s because we cant afford the book, with Obamas wealth distribution, my money is now going to other,
So I don’t have any money left over for books for other items.
Sean   March 13th, 2009 12:06 pm ET
People are mostly just people – "liberals" can be "conservatives" and vice versa depending on the specific view. Ann, Rush and their kind conceptually divide the country into camps and mark out the heated topics and spew hate mongering onto them to generate more heat. It is their mojo to make the divisiveness real and get people all riled up – all to make money for themselves. Only fools pay attention to them.
Sean
Uh Oh, Dow's dropping again. That has to be the longest prosperity moment in liberal times.
Insulting Democrat's intelligence might be more effective if you knew the difference between the use of 'do' and 'due'. But what should I expect from someone who uses the word 'luv'.
cnnnewser   March 13th, 2009 12:03 pm ET
You think people are finally getting sick of all the hate, lies, and innuendo spread by these right wing nitwits that have nothing but hate and anti-american rhetoric in their words? I put these people on the same scale as I put terrorist and traitors.
WBN   March 13th, 2009 12:03 pm ET
Sue   March 13th, 2009 11:59 am ET
She never had any mojo. Why, when there is so much else in the world to pay attention to, both good and bad, do people give her the attention she craves? Don't you people who buy her books and write about her have anything better to do with your time??
smart person   March 13th, 2009 11:59 am ET
datDEMOCRATdus   March 13th, 2009 11:57 am ET
To me Coulter seems like a sexually frustrated woman who blames all of her shortcomings in life on the 'evil' liberals. I think she just needs to get laid by Obama and she'll see the light and shed her cloak of anger and hatred that weighs down so heavily upon her.
San Diego   March 13th, 2009 11:56 am ET
Ann is a very negative woman, who appears to have no love in her life, that's why she is so good at being hateful and spiteful. She can say what she wants about President Obama, but he is loved and has alot of love in his life.
G-Man   March 13th, 2009 11:55 am ET
I hope she falls flat on her face , no respect for her one sided opinions especially when its just trying to sell herself.
Moe   March 13th, 2009 11:54 am ET
From her book cover, it is obvious she's not above exposing her body to try and sell books. Funny how she stoops to the commoner level to earn a buck.
Patrick Hanaway   March 13th, 2009 11:53 am ET
What refreshing news indeed! She is nothing but a viper-tongued idiot who for way too long has had the luxury of making money off even bigger idiots who absorb her bitter rants as valued commentary.
Scott   March 13th, 2009 11:53 am ET
Not surprising. There is only so many ways you can package hateful rhetoric before it gets stale and old. She offers nothing useful, no solutions, does not positive for the country. She is simply a blowhard trying to make money off criticizing others who are trying to solve some of our problems. Until she steps up to the plate and actually does something beside blow hot air, she is nothing more than a poor excuse for an entertainer.
I wouldn't buy her book or give it for a gift. Her arrogance is so appalling and her rudeness to everyone who does not agree with her is so apparent that I won't even watch a show if she is on it. She seem to be welcomed mostly on the Hannity show as he is just like her. If you don't agree with him, he interrupts you and never lets you finish your sentence. No wonder they get along. It must be tight in a room with both egos. Good thing they mostly agree with each other.
Jason   March 13th, 2009 11:52 am ET
Perhaps a sign that Americans are tired of the rightwing hate, lies and hypiocrisy. The right wing loonies need to remember that you can only fool some people (right wing losers) all the time but you cannot foool all the people all the time. McCain failed to see that and so did the horse faced leidy.
Johnny Neptune   March 13th, 2009 11:51 am ET
It don't take a rocket scientist to figure out that her books were selling well when the Republicans were running things and it was in vogue to say whatever you wanted to say, even if it didn't make any sense. She had her 15 minutes. Personally I think she's a carpet muncher and she needs to stop being a hypocrite. If Ann Coulter is a Republican, then I'm Jesus Christ and I've came back from the dead.
Rather than getting upset, I truly sympathize with Ann Coulter.
I think Ann, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O' Reilly and Shawn Hannity were sexually molested when they kids. They also were most likely treated very badly by their parents that they have this volcano of hate running in their blood.
So please dont be mad at them. Just thank God that those things did not happen to you and pray that they will not happen to your children so your children do not end up like one of the above.
Matthew, Detroit   March 13th, 2009 11:50 am ET
The REAL queston is why dont you people feel that you should take care of yourself. Why does NO one feel responsible for themselves.
Why is it the goverments job to save you.
Where are all your freedoms and liberties. Why do people not just work hard.
Bill Cosby was on the talk shows yesterday. He takes a quite a beating from some black groups and liberal left wing. He supports Barack but what he also talks about is self responsibility.
He tells black males to go out and get jobs. Take care of your families. Get married. Grow up. Stop being angry. Be responsible. Stop asking for handouts and work. He thinks that everyone should work hard and take pride in what they do.
His new book is selling higher in the republican circles than in the democrat circles. Why is that? Maybe because EVERYONE wants a handout and everyone believes they are owed something.
williamachton   March 13th, 2009 11:50 am ET
I read this book - it's just not that good compared to some of her earlier ones (e.g., "Godless"). Anyone consider that as the explanation?
I can see the Lilberals are on a rampage today. Guess we have Ann and you guys have Rev. Wright & Ayers.
***************
At least Rev Wright doesn't go around on tv spreading his ideas. All we know of him is from a 20 second clip . And whatever Ayers did was way back in the 60s. They don't affect our lives in any way. Limbaugh and Coulter are spreading hate everyday of the week. And last I heard neither of them served their country in any capacity unlike Wright...a former marine.
RAG   March 13th, 2009 11:48 am ET
The comedian Ann Coutler's brand of political porno / farce is just getting a little old. The only ones that even listen to her anymore are the sub-normals that actually thought she was for real. She is on her way to join Andrew Dice Clay, Sasha Cohen and Ru Paul in the "We laughed at THAT" Hall of Inconsequentiality.
Julie   March 13th, 2009 11:48 am ET
Sorry to hear about sales. I better go buy a few more copies to give as presents to my liberal friends who need to be reading more and voting less. So glad we live in a free society where "dissenters" like Ann can still write books. If we followed current liberal thinking (used by some writers on this thread) people like Ann would be jailed for hate speech. So much for open-mindedness and adherence to democratic values, such as freedom of speech
Dorothy in NC   March 13th, 2009 11:48 am ET
I would buy a book telling me the care & feeding of the female boa constictor before I would ever waste even a nickel on a book written by Ann Coulter. Her and Rush and Hannity should get together and leave the country. If they did our air waves would be kinder and more intereting and the hate level in this country would go down and we all would be better off. P.S. Take Bill O'Reilly with you too.
Dawd   March 13th, 2009 11:48 am ET
What seems painfully obvious is that we're in a recession. Discretionary spending is down everywhere you look. But writers and artists in general get only so many warm receptions. Overexposure is a problem.
With every title published, Anne's potential for profit diminishes. So what? She's rich, blond, and slim. She's having a good time. And as Obama's cabinet continues to blunder its way through its honeymoon, no doubt she's getting ready for the next round. I admire her sense of humor.
Ann Coulter represents everything that's wrong with this country. She claims Republican party affiliation just so she can whine about the Democrats. Even if McCain won, she'd be blasting him for everything: she needs a man in her life to take her away from all this and get her mind of complaining about EVERYTHING!!! I was thinking Kim Jung Il, Hugo Chavez, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Evo Morales: one complaint to any them and they'll treat Ms. Coulter like she deserves to be treated.
Maybe she should write a book focused on the real traitors to America – Chuck Norris who doesn't like democracy, wants to leave the union and rule Texas, and has advocated violence and talked of sleeper cells.
Bridget   March 13th, 2009 11:39 am ET
People are tired of the hate. It's time to love.
Joe   March 13th, 2009 11:39 am ET
It just goes to prove, you can't fool all of the people all of the time. Coulter is a plauge on the social policy dialogue. Her 15 minutes are up, and it is time she crawls back under a rock.
Dixon   March 13th, 2009 11:39 am ET
Just like all the rags that print what ever will sell about the stars Ann will return. Bottom feeding Journalism will always find a way to make money no matter who it hurts. It is sad to say that there are a lot of people who love to hate, on both sides.
Ken Langley   March 13th, 2009 11:39 am ET
Funny how wishful thinking can twist the way news is reported. CNN would like Ann Coulter to fade, so you report her phenomenal book-selling success as bad news.
constantly amazed   March 13th, 2009 11:38 am ET
Wow, this filled up with hate filled post hate liberal posts almost as fast as the article about Bristol Palin naming her baby. Everything is down, book sales are a luxury under the Obama depression.
Kitchen Police   March 13th, 2009 11:38 am ET
The poor economy has everyone's attention. Coulter's narcissistic nature has moved off stage. Besides people can't afford to waste their money right now.
Underpaid Wonder Woman   March 13th, 2009 11:38 am ET
Hearing that her book sales are down gives me hope that the American people are wising up to the fact that they are being poisoned by people like her. Yes there are extremes on both sides, but I have yet to find her equal on the left. She plays the victim card as though all conservatives are victimized by the evil liberals, and then turns around and accuses the liberals of being victims. That is hypocrisy by anyone’s definition. Why would anyone look up to that?
Reality Check   March 13th, 2009 11:38 am ET
She's irrelevant!
dumbocrat   March 13th, 2009 11:38 am ET
I don't read books.
Steve   March 13th, 2009 11:37 am ET
OMG. What a fake story! 50,000 books a month. That's over 1500 books a day. By this standard, Carville and Bagala have no mojo what so ever! CNN, find some real news to report rather than your kill the messenger because you can't combat the message. How's about a debate on the substance rather than personal mojo stories.
LA   March 13th, 2009 11:37 am ET
Karma.
xenia   March 13th, 2009 11:37 am ET
It's understandable to me that very few people would want to read this book. Coulter is one of my least liked persons. Next to Rush!
Karen   March 13th, 2009 11:36 am ET
Ann's doing fine. Sorry to break it to you.
Julianna, Biloxi, MS   March 13th, 2009 11:36 am ET
I cannot stand this woman and her venom. However, great hair extensions, Ann.
Honker Bob   March 13th, 2009 11:36 am ET
Book sales for this trash are low because her followers generally don't (or can't) read. They get plenty of this crap from Fox so why bother?
BJ Tolbert   March 13th, 2009 11:36 am ET
Anne Coulter and Rush Limbaugh have been singing the same tune for the past 20 years. At some point people wake-up and realize that her and Limbaugh's policies got this country into this financial mess. So now people are simply tuning her out!
David   March 13th, 2009 11:35 am ET
She's not even worth discussing. She's a bobblehead! We've already seen all her moves
scottbourne   March 13th, 2009 11:35 am ET
Here's why books by Coultergeist and other hate-filled right wingers make the best-seller list. The right organizes buyback campaigns. Shills are sent into the bookstores in major cities. They're each given $50 and told to go buy the book, then bring it back to a central location. This makes it appear that the books are "flying" off the shelves. Nothing could be further from the truth.
But for those right wingers who take some faux solace in seeing good numbers for books by "conservatives" sorry – but the vote that counted was last November and you guys got beaten like left-handed, red-headed step children. Get ready for more of the same. When you hope America fails you lose.
Norm   March 13th, 2009 11:35 am ET
Ann and Rush, what a combo. They can work the street corners after the electricty is shut off. The more she shill's, the fewer readers pay attention to her.
Perspicacious Chicagoan   March 13th, 2009 11:35 am ET
"Better headline: Bad Economy drags down book sales."
Even better headline: Bad writing drags down bad book sales.
worriedmom   March 13th, 2009 11:35 am ET
I can see the Lilberals are on a rampage today. Guess we have Ann and you guys have Rev. Wright & Ayers.
MLH   March 13th, 2009 11:35 am ET
I am one of those slanderous, traitorous, evil and just plain nasty liberals that she reviles relentlessly in her books. I am hoping the loss of sales represents the fact that while my conservative friends have many disagreements with liberals, most of them don't bother with the puerile nastiness and name calling that seems to be her stock in trade.
When conservatives have intelligent, humorous writers available to them, such as Bill Maher and P.J. O'Rourke, why do they settle for the Ann Coulters and Bill O'Reillys of the world?
MD   March 13th, 2009 11:34 am ET
Why don't a few of you liberals just get a copy at your local bookstore or borrow one from one of your conservative friends (if you have any). That way you don't have to help the economy or Coulter, but may just learn something. It's so easy to criticize something (movies, books, people, etc.) when you haven't actually experienced it.
Michael   March 13th, 2009 11:34 am ET
Does Coulter really think she looks sexy with her failed Veronica Lake look? If she was tied up on railroad tracks, the train would be looking for a dirt road!
Rafael VA   March 13th, 2009 11:34 am ET
As a Republican I really think Ann Coulter is not a help nor a good thing for our party. I think she needs to go out there and get her brains bangged by some guy. After that she will be just fine. Lately I have become very displease with her.
Ann stop being so angry and so mean. I see your points but the way you express them really are hurting you and the GOP.
mac   March 13th, 2009 11:34 am ET
Maybe, just maybe, she's gone past her "Sell-By" date. The conservative Limbaugh-Coulter hate mongering is increasingly irrelevant to the questions and problems that the United States is facing. The Republican party doesn't seem to get the message either.
R in Maine   March 13th, 2009 11:33 am ET
She has nothing worth hearing.
Jilli   March 13th, 2009 11:33 am ET
As far as I'm concerned, she never had any mojo.
She has to think people are idiots. I guess you'd have to be to spend your hard earned money on her hatefueled skreed.
Just the mention of her name invokes a mouth vomit – what a disgusting organism – the term "human being" just doesn't work for coulter.
Sam   March 13th, 2009 11:33 am ET
People are getting sick of her hate-filled spew. Are Republicans **gasp** finally realizing that being divisive, prejudiced, and evil is perhaps not the best way to win friends (not to mention elections) and influence people?
Fred L. Fraud   March 13th, 2009 11:33 am ET
Her celebrity clock just ticked 15 minutes. Buh-bye!
lovable liberal   March 13th, 2009 11:33 am ET
This may be slightly good news, but she still makes a good living appealing to right-wing hatred. That's only possible because there's so much of it to appeal to.
karen-Phoenix   March 13th, 2009 11:33 am ET
Any one with an ounce of smarts or education NEVER listens to or reads Ann Coulter!!! She awful!!!
Paula   March 13th, 2009 11:33 am ET
For every book she sells, lets go out and do something positive-contribute to a food bank or reach out to an elderly neighbor. Can American pull together like we did after 9/11 or Katrina? There will always be negative people taking advantage of our fears but each person can make a difference today.
Bill   March 13th, 2009 11:32 am ET
Poor Ann you might have to suffer like everybody else in these hard times. Please do not worry I have never or will ever buy anything you write.
Patricia   March 13th, 2009 11:32 am ET
She reminds me of a porn star who has to keep getting bigger boob jobs to stay working. One day it just doesn't make a difference anymore.
Lotta Muni   March 13th, 2009 11:32 am ET
I think she should have a Jell-o wrestling match with Nancy Pelosi. That might boost sales, plus she might slap some sense into the House Majority leader.
phoenix86   March 13th, 2009 11:31 am ET
Book sales are down because democrats want to be lied to.
rh   March 13th, 2009 11:31 am ET
I hope Ann and Rush continue to lead the Republiban Party so it will eventually shrink more and just go away.
dave from Dayton, OH   March 13th, 2009 11:30 am ET
Maybe she would have had better sales if she had changed her titles to:
"Godless: The Church of Ann Coulter"
"Treason: Conservative Treachery from a Cold and Heartless Woman"
"Slander: Ann Coulter Lies About the American Left"
lola Planner, Houston, Texas   March 13th, 2009 11:30 am ET
Maybe because she rehashes the same old stuff. The woman has no new ideas and America is tired of her.
flavoter   March 13th, 2009 11:30 am ET
Disgusting
Pat Smith   March 13th, 2009 11:29 am ET
What goes around comes around. She is another mean spirited right winger whose message is falling on more and more deaf ears. Folks are tired of the yelling, the name calling and meanness that comes from many right wing pundits. They are looking for real answers, not more hate spewing. Her time was bound to run out when American decided 8 years of the GOP got us where we are today. We are all Americans Ann and all of us need to work together through this crisis or we will fail.
Alex   March 13th, 2009 11:29 am ET
Re: demwit
No one cares about Rev. Wright's book (he has a book?). We don't see Wright giving keynote speeches to big conservative conferences or going on The View and picking fights with Barbara Walters. Coulter is so OTT I wouldn't be surprised to find out that she's basically pulling a Colbert on everyone.
Lori   March 13th, 2009 11:29 am ET
@A. Austen,
What do the mean the economy is hurting Ann's book sales? I thought you conservatives were living well (aren't you guys the same ones rejecting the President's stimulus money?). Why after 8 years of the Republicans who know how to run this country (ha! ha!) shouldn't we Americans be wealthy? I thought all those tax cuts helped our economy. Oh, that's right... those Republican tax cuts helped rich Ms. Coulter and her wealthy family not the rest of us Americans!
P.S. Tell your congressman to reject the stimulus money since it's 'socialism'. Or maybe Ms. Coulter can use the money since her sales are drowning like Republican ideas!
boynton beach, fl   March 13th, 2009 11:29 am ET
________Perhaps she didn't get the memo that says, people are no longer willing to paint each other as "liberal" or "conservative" anymore, but American with different view points.__________
a lot of republicans did not get that memo.
Rich   March 13th, 2009 11:28 am ET
Good. Perhaps we can get past the childish name calling and devisive politics and actually talk about important issues.
Lioness   March 13th, 2009 11:28 am ET
Ugh, who is still caring about this woman, anyway? I find Ann Coulter quite boring and predictable. How easy it must be for her- spew a bunch of insults to get people's attention, and make millions. Plenty more people are doing it these days, and the public eats it up. Why? Such an uninteresting individual, Ann is. Well, at least her public persona is boring- we actually don't know what she's really like...
Otto   March 13th, 2009 11:28 am ET
She is an air head, just like her buddy Rush. I am waiting for them to implode with little bits and pieces flying all over the place; as long as their scum does not hit me.
Like the Romans in the old days; it takes an internal implosion and they are certainly heading in that direction. Hear that sound? The fizzle has begun.
Rosemarie   March 13th, 2009 11:28 am ET
We're evolving....oh yeah, republicans don't believe in that either.
Joe Terrogano   March 13th, 2009 11:28 am ET
She reminds me of David Duke, the Louisiana racist, who supported himself via his hate-filled political campaigns. When people realized what an empty vessel he was, his notoriety evaporated. Get a real job Ms. Coulter, like the Americans who work for a living.
rich   March 13th, 2009 11:28 am ET
The more she talks, the less people listen because you realize what an extreme right wing nut she is. Her book sales will fall even more in the future.
Kevin in Ohio   March 13th, 2009 11:27 am ET
Adam in Indy...hey that's cool.... I do the same with the trash books from Hilary and Obama....put them right over there on the FICTION shelves where they belong.
Lynn   March 13th, 2009 11:27 am ET
Hey Ann, I'll C U Next Tuesday!
Richard L   March 13th, 2009 11:27 am ET
It is fascinating to hear her supporters compare her sales to the sales of books by politicians. The huge difference is that selling books is her JOB.
Maybe America has had enough of her mindless rants.
Althea   March 13th, 2009 11:27 am ET
Ann Coulter is just fine. CNN is simply scared. Don't forget we are in a recession, people are worried, they are not reading a lot of books. Ann's books are doing better than anything the "lefties/liars" can bring. Maybe if people on the left weren't so hypocritical, hateful , immoral and wicked their books would sell almost as good as Ann's.
J. Jonah Hexas Texas   March 13th, 2009 11:27 am ET
Not only is she an ignorant, hate-filled, divisive mouthpiece spewing emotional reactionary rhetoric, she looks like a tranny. No wonder the book isn't selling.
Ralph- - Missouri   March 13th, 2009 11:26 am ET
Ann's bashings are hurtful to so many people, and she doesn't seem to care. She rants and raves, but offers no solutions. Maybe people have finally come to their senses about her so-called writing. Serves her right.
CMG   March 13th, 2009 11:26 am ET
Maybe her next book she can co-author with Sarah....Wouldn't that be worth waiting for?
dan in Tucson   March 13th, 2009 11:26 am ET
I think Coulter's approach is confusing and misleading. She takes political satire to the personal level and it turns people off. If she doesn't get off this mission, she will eventually fade into oblivion like Rush Limbaugh. People don't want to hear hate and complaining anymore. They want to hear hope. Even though hope doesn't pay the bills, people want to think there is a light at the end of the tunnel. People have given up on fear and hate, that's why the Republicans are finished.
Molly   March 13th, 2009 11:25 am ET
When is she going to buy a new dress.
Tom   March 13th, 2009 11:24 am ET
She never had any mojo, or anything useful to say. Her sound and fury is being seen for what it is–immature rantings of a narrow mind that hopefully will reach some level of enlightenment one of these days. In the meantime, we have more important things to do, such as live our lives and get this country back on track.
Progress vs. Stagnation   March 13th, 2009 11:24 am ET
Coulter is not worth the paper her words are printed on. She spews out vile hot air in a guise of intellectual Republican babble.
We can see through this, you know. It's a tremendous waste of time.
Sniffit   March 13th, 2009 11:24 am ET
@ Dan, who said "...it was that more republicans voted for Obama because they didn't like McCain. This is still a majority conservative country people. "
Keep telling yourself that....whatever helps you sleep at night.
Suzanne   March 13th, 2009 11:24 am ET
No one should give her the time of day – I am glad Americans aren't buying her book – hope she has to get a real job.
cruiserGT   March 13th, 2009 11:24 am ET
Well, if Ann can't pay the piper... who will?
Ed   March 13th, 2009 11:24 am ET
Sales of everything is down, so why would book sales not be down also? I would guess that all book sales are down.
Lori   March 13th, 2009 11:24 am ET
I guess the 100,000 that bought her book are the number of Republicans left in this country. Yipee! And good riddance, Ann and the GOP!
Fellow conservatives....lets suspend our posts to CNN so that the liberals here can see who the true haters are.
bill   March 13th, 2009 11:22 am ET
Coulter and Limbaugh have both lost their "mojo" because they only appeal to a small number of fanatical, scourched earth at any cost, religious fanatic conservatives who are becoming smaller and smaller in number.
A. Austen   March 13th, 2009 11:22 am ET
The economy is down and CNN wonders why a hardcover political book is selling slower than other books by the same author. This is just a cheap attempt to take a shot at Ms. Coulter. I'm certain that other "political" books by members of the left are selling much more than 100,000 copies in the first two months so just tell me name so that I can go out and purchase one.
joann   March 13th, 2009 11:22 am ET
I think Ann Coulter's act is wearing thin. People are sick of the hate and screaming from both sides of the political spectrum - the extremists are all nuts, no matter which side they're on.
Doug, New Jersey   March 13th, 2009 11:22 am ET
"The age of using race and social status in order to scare people into believing what your saying is over"
Joe   March 13th, 2009 11:21 am ET
Yes, she is a polarizing figure. Not my cup of tea.
But she does sell more books than Nancy Pelosi, so what does that say?
Southwestern Guy   March 13th, 2009 11:21 am ET
Out here in the Land of Enchantment, we have never embraced her politics of hate and division. The majority here steers to the mainstream, Mainstreet, Democratic values of President Obama, not the misogynistic, homophobic, vitriolic proganda oif the radical right Republicans. Frankly, I'm surprised here books didn't sell more, since 15 million people listen to here compatriot in extremism, Southeast Missori State University dropout Rush Limbaugh. But most normal people get tired of hatemongers pretty quickly, so I'd say her karma is returning to her. By the way, Ms. Colter, I am a proud member of one of those liberal church you maligned in your 2006 book, and I am far from godless. I love God with all my heart, but just as importantly, I love my neighbor as myself.
JJ in NY   March 13th, 2009 11:20 am ET
While the Libs blame everything else on the economy if it's politically convenient to do so, how about that variable being applied here .
Aaron P   March 13th, 2009 11:20 am ET
Hm. An American tragedy, I guess. Perhaps less people are buying in to her completely unproductive and absurd attempts to 'enlighten' us. I, for one, am crushed. *tear* haha
Boisepoet   March 13th, 2009 11:19 am ET
Maybe America is finally losing its' appetite for ignorance and hatred.
3g_Cydia   March 13th, 2009 11:19 am ET
If Rush and Ann have so many solutions to our problems, If they are so ahead of the curve compared to liberals, why 1) were they not able to communicate their "truth" to voting conservatives? 2) why are they not on some federal committee or organization that will actually come up with viable solutions instead of vitriol. BTW, what would Ann have to day about Bristol Palin, seeing as Miss Coulter blames the downfall of Western Civilization on single unwed mothers. Oh wait Bristol isn't black, its OK. Conservative values forever!
Nobody Asked Larry But...   March 13th, 2009 11:19 am ET
I suggest a match made in hell, a 2012 ticket – Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. Flip a coin, prez or veep. A sure loser either way. But it certainly would be entertaining – for one night of tv. After that, shut them off- their message would be the same drivel the conservatives constanty spew – nothing new, nothing constructive.
Michelle   March 13th, 2009 11:19 am ET
Yeah, I'm a godless liberal. Proud of it. You know what would make me fall on my knees and praise the lord Jesus, though? If Ann Coulter would just freaking DISAPPEAR FOREVER. The sooner the better.
Shooky   March 13th, 2009 11:19 am ET
This is funny to me: When sales of everything in the marketplace are in the tank, it's because the economy. People aren't buying cars, clothes, cable, eating at restaurants, or spending on entertainment because the economy is sooooo bad....but when Ann Coulter's book sales are down, it's because she is evil and everyone hates her so her opinions are obsolete.
I am about halfway through this book right now and It's one of my favorites of hers. It's a hilarious & kind of scary explanation of those that claim 'victim' status and how they are used as props by the left. For all you liberals that feel like you are owed something, you may want to check it out. It's free at a library so you have nothing to lose.
JIM WHITTAKER, Hemet, CA   March 13th, 2009 11:19 am ET
Doesn't anybody else find it pathetically hilarious at all the hate-filled
venom the Loony Libs spew out when they're talking about Ann's
hate-filled venomous writing?
And isn't it odd that all of the Conservative book writers consistantly
land and spend weeks and months on the NYT best seller list?
And how to explain Fox's continuing total dominance over such drool
merchants and Chrissy, Keithy and Racheal on MSNBC? For crying
out loud, even that creepy-scary Nancy Grace beats Olberman, every
night! O'Reilly beats Olberman three or four to one, every night!
Glen Beck's TV ratings have exploded into outer space since he left that Clinton News Network for Fox.
Liberal talk radio is non-existant. Where IS Air America, by the way?
So, obviously, SOMEBODY out there likes them!
A whole LOT of somebodys!
Jy Creighton   March 13th, 2009 11:19 am ET
She is not a serious political pundit. She is a joke, but not a funny one. She is hateful and crazy.
Francheska   March 13th, 2009 11:18 am ET
Perhaps the American public that was reading her books have either become smarter or realized that Culter is only about one thing...filling her bank accounts by spewing hateful rhetoric.
Eric Winkler   March 13th, 2009 11:18 am ET
She's sort of a one trick pony in that she says something intentionally in appropriate on a television or radio appearance and hopes that will put her in the spotlight long enough to sell some books. I think people are just tired of the act. She doesn't have credibility as a journalist nor an analyst. She's just sort of skating by as a professional guest on shows that are hoping she'll say something to get them in the headlines. It's the commentator who cried wolf...
Greg Pottstown, Pa.   March 13th, 2009 11:18 am ET
Sales are down in almost every industry. Why should book sales be any different?
Anonymous   March 13th, 2009 11:18 am ET
Dan wrote: "She is the best. Liberals hate her because they know she speaks the truth, and that scares them…lol." Uh wrong Danny. Nobody hates her, and she doesn't speak the truth. Nobody does. And she doesn't scare anybody. She's just arrogant, egotistical and righteous and needs a good dose of humility and tolerance.
Terri   March 13th, 2009 11:18 am ET
I have never equated Coulter with mojo.
The One   March 13th, 2009 11:18 am ET
I bet Ann Coulter far outsells people like Alan Colmes, Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews (with that thrill).
Jeff   March 13th, 2009 11:17 am ET
There's been a lot of humorous speculation that Ms. Coulter is actually a transgendered person.
I wonder if these rumors are affecting her book sales.
barbed   March 13th, 2009 11:17 am ET
And it must kill her that Meaghan McCain is way better looking.
Tom in CA   March 13th, 2009 11:17 am ET
It seems that we've gotten tired of her rantings and diatribes.
Dan in NC   March 13th, 2009 11:17 am ET
To be frank, she's past tense. The political landscape in America experienced not just an earthquake, but a tectonic shift.
The free market hasn't gone away, but it's no longer revered with an aura of mysticism. (It's another "god that failed".) Conservatives had at least 6 uninterrupted years ('01 to '07) to prove that they could both lead and govern.
They failed utterly.
The economy is a shambles. America's world reputation wound up in the toilet. And the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have portrayed us as uncomfortably vulnerable. And the GOP today resembles the Keystone Kops.
Ann, Rush, and the gang are about as relevant today as the Missouri Compromise.
Jennifer   March 13th, 2009 11:17 am ET
Jeez, let's hope she loses her "mojo" and goes away completely. What this woman has to say that means anything or has any shred of sense to it is totally beyond me. She does nothing but write polemics without any evidence or reason to support them.
steve black   March 13th, 2009 11:17 am ET
she has already lost her mind, and ethics, so mojo would be next
Tybar   March 13th, 2009 11:17 am ET
She's nothing but a self-promoter who takes money from the sheep who follow her bell.
PNIO   March 13th, 2009 11:16 am ET
Don't feel sorry for her, like the rest of them, they made their money under questionable circumstances. She's got her nest egg to fall back on, unless she invest in Wall Street, and she's got her loyal "networks" to bring her out whenever they can't find another "counterpoint" pundit at the last minute to fill the air political void.
David   March 13th, 2009 11:16 am ET
Ann's cutting truth and barbs hurt the feelings of some liberals. Her books won't sell as well while the country searches for an alternative because Bush (the false conservative) made people look for one. Once they realize what liberalism does to our country, and how Bush was not a true conservative they will be back buying again.
tigerakabj   March 13th, 2009 11:16 am ET
Well what goes around comes around. Her, Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, and co. have had their time. Their irrational garabage punctuated by hate is boomeranging back at them and they will reap a bitter harvest. Murdoch's empire is also crumbling so that is also good news.
Coulter, send my regards to your leader Limbaugh. Tell him don't sit on the GOP too hard.
Whenever I am in a department store (Target, Walmart) I turn her book around backwards on the shelf so I don't have to look at her face.
If i have helped her book sales decline in any way, You're welcome :)
Poison stick insect posing as a real human being...I don't hate her...that would require more emotion than she is worth....I simply despise her.
no worries, she can always make money giving speeches to the KKK.
Ann's book sales off?
Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.
Jon Peterson   March 13th, 2009 11:15 am ET
Ann Coulter is not psychotic, nor is she a political genius. In internet lingo, she is simply what one would call a TROLL. She states outrageous things on purpose, looks for attention, and the more people come rolling along, whether they support her or not, the happier she is. Internet trolls take notice. Instead of wasting hours away at a keyboard trolling internet message boards, you too could be making millions if you had a hot figure that works well on TV along with a political timely message, which unfortunately for Coulter, is not the time anymore.
A little sad   March 13th, 2009 11:15 am ET
Good one!
However, unforutnately, there will always be people willing to fund hate, so the woman will never go hungry (except, of course, by choice.)
RUSH   March 13th, 2009 11:14 am ET
She is not good for the Republican party.
Jordin   March 13th, 2009 11:14 am ET
I'm relieved to hear her sales have declined. Perhaps people realize that they can put a meal on the table instead of wasting their hard earned money on her rantings. She's a hate monger, pure and simple. I think she, like Rush Limbaugh have had more than their 15 minute allottments of fame. Let's move away from the Rush's and the Coulter's of the world.
Peter   March 13th, 2009 11:14 am ET
I think the American public may have gotten wise to the fact that there is blame on BOTH sides of the aisle, that the Republicans were as free spending and full of earmarks as the Dems, and that the technique of simply demonizing of "the other party" is outdated and no longer effective.
This puts Miss Coulter at a severe disadvantage, since she is a one-trick insult pony, and does not know how to address issues instead of personalities.
Adriana RM Atlanta   March 13th, 2009 11:14 am ET
WHoohoo... Now all we have to do is drive the message home !!
Julia Byrd- Hayden Idaho   March 13th, 2009 11:14 am ET
She must have an awful personal life, she is so hateful and unhappy. Poor ann, it must be terrible to be so alone with your hate. I think she really has low self-esteem
Eric   March 13th, 2009 11:14 am ET
When you bash the president and most of the country the way Anne does, you aren't going to be very popular. I am frankly surprised she sold as many as she did.
"Republicans don't hate American, just half the people in it" ~Jon Stewart
Mickie   March 13th, 2009 11:14 am ET
When you're republican, all you do is spew hate and blame the liberals for everything that is wrong, even though the republicans were the ones in control for 8 years and got us into this mess. Democrats are not perfect either, but I don't know any republicans who don't spew hate for anyone who doesn't think like them, but those who are condemning this and condemning that because it's against the Bible, are the same ones who are out there toe tapping underneath the bathroom stalls, molesting the choir boys or boy scouts and the deadbeat dads who are bombing the abortion clinics. But whether or not they really believe in Christianity, they will be judged by the higher power as to how they lived, not how they preached.
R Greene   March 13th, 2009 11:13 am ET
If Ann were not an atractive blonde splayed on her book covers, she would sell even fewer books. The content is as inane as the commedy routines of Andrew Dice Clay. If looked at as valid political commentary, it is trash. If looked at as schtick, it might be funny to some.
Newtowner_CT   March 13th, 2009 11:13 am ET
I've never been a promoter of book burning, but she does make a compelling arguement everytime she writes one.
carmen   March 13th, 2009 11:13 am ET
She should have accumulated enough proceeds by now to get some hair colour for those dark roots and get some meat on her bulimic frame and some mouthwash for her toilet tongue. Like many noxious substances there comes a time when the level of exposure becomes toxic and people realize they should avoid being in contact with them.
Kevin E.   March 13th, 2009 11:13 am ET
Nobody cares about her anymore. It's not the hateful, paranoid, and factually incorrect tone of her remarks...there will (unfortunately) always be some audience for that. The sales are off because everybody has heard her tell the same story for the past decade, and they are tired of it. I do hope that another reason is that people have realized how destructive her brand of writing really is.
Michael   March 13th, 2009 11:13 am ET
She's starting to look kinda rode hard and put up wet......maybe people are starting the view her other "contributions" in a similar light.
john from chicago   March 13th, 2009 11:13 am ET
I don't agree with anything she says, but it is nothing more audacious or outrageous than liberal hardcores on the other side of the spectrum say
Kevin   March 13th, 2009 11:13 am ET
Home sales are down, car sales are down, sales of everything are down and you take time to note that one individual's book sales are down too? Stop trying to find news where there isn't any. Go find some real news and try to find the positive stories, as well. There are plently of them out there if you'd only look for them.
How about this one: Home affordability for first time home buyers is way up and people are coming out to the market and buying affordable housing for the first time in years.
Jeff   March 13th, 2009 11:12 am ET
The funny thing is without Liberals Ann Coulter wouldn't have the soapbox she has. I believe women's suffrage and liberation was a pretty liberal idea at the time. She should take some of her book money and get the surgery required to remove her adams apple as well.
Patrick   March 13th, 2009 11:12 am ET
Dan, how is this a a majority conservative nation when Democrats won both the Senate and Presidency this past year? And shame on you for encouraging a horrible commentator who has nasty things to say about anyone who doesn't buy into what she says.
We need to stop giving goons airtime. Rush and Ann do not deserve to get as much coverage as they do. They are not news. I'm sick of it. That's why I've devoted much of my day to following stocks instead of writing on CNN blogs. The discourse is uninformed. Just anybody can leave a comment if they really want. Dan, Liberals are not the only ones who cannot stand Ann. Let me list the people who cannot stand her:
*Real Conservatives
*People who want peace
*People who want to have intelligent conversations
*People who believes that she sets women back
*Women (especially Republican women) who do not like to be stereotyped
Fitz in Texas   March 13th, 2009 11:11 am ET
Just because CNN says it doesn't mean it's so. The liberal media have a real bad habit of only bashing people like Coulter, Hannity, Rush and others that don't agree with them. I'd have to see for myself that her sales are down. I'm not about to believe CNN on this story.
That's ok Ann, you keep writing the books and I'll keep buying them.
P.S. Jon makes a very good point. He says -Better headline: Bad Economy drags down book sales-
Most people aren't spending like they would if Obama were a bit more positive and stop telling us how much trouble we're in just to get his waste of money projects going. Plus, it appears everytime Obama speaks the DOW takes a dive. Should tell people something.
John   March 13th, 2009 11:11 am ET
Could it be because the politics of hate and division are not what people want anymore from either side? Or could it be because she's throws the word "Guilt" at liberals immediately after an insanely unpopular conservative administration and people aren't dumb enough to buy into it?
Either way, speaking for myself, I wouldn't buy an anti-liberal book any sooner than I would buy an anti-conservative book. It's not constructive and it doesn't do anybody any good, except for the greedy pigs who write and publish these books.
Claudia   March 13th, 2009 11:11 am ET
I guess she's just a victim of the "Free Market". Now if people really get a decent education, I'm sure it will be reflected in even lower book sales. She is, as is Limbaugh, an entertainer who now lacks a big audience. Her mindset is over. She needs to get a haircut, quit bleaching her hair, and get a real life based on caring for her fellow man/woman. Let's see if the money from her 100,000 books will trickle down to them.
Speaking and writing do not add to the productivity of the United States.
The Bu   March 13th, 2009 11:11 am ET
Most Americans, including myself, are tired of people who speak in order to continue to divide this country. We are sick of it. If commentators are not talking to uplift Americans then they really need to shut up. Things are bad for EVERYBODY and for people to continue to pit the "haves" against the "have nots" is ridiculous. America is better than that! At least that's what we say!!!!
greg in jax doesnt like ann   March 13th, 2009 11:11 am ET
First off, wrong! There are far more Democrats in this country than there are Republicans. Secondly, Republicans didn't vote for Obama because they didn't like McCain, they voted for Obama because they got tired of the same old nonsense from the last 8 years of idiocy. Look for that trend to continue well into the next couple of decades
Fair is Fair   March 13th, 2009 11:10 am ET
JJ Boston   March 13th, 2009 11:10 am ET
Soon the right wing churches will be ordering al large quantity of her book. Just to make it look that the sales are off the charts...
David L.   March 13th, 2009 11:10 am ET
It is amazing that she would be able to sell even 1 book. She is one of the most extreme, radical, warped, right wing nut jobs in the republican party today.
She is an example of what is wrong with America. This is why education should be a major priority in this country, so our children grow up to be mature, sane, responsible, educated and living in the real world. Coulters worldview is truly frightening and the sign of mental instability.
David   March 13th, 2009 11:09 am ET
Did the person writing this ever take in consideration people have less money to buy the book?
It's the recession, stupid.
Not Ann Coulter.
Mark   March 13th, 2009 11:09 am ET
It's a great book. The fact that CNN even published this "newsworthy" article just reinforces the absurdities of the media and liberalism in general that she describes.
Woman makes her living attacking other Americans, pitting one against the other for her own personal gain. Few occupations are as despicable. She is the poster child for the kind of partisan politics that was rejected by more than half the country in the last election, so it doesn't surprise me that her book sales are off. However, while this news gives me hope, I'm not at all sure that its reporting on CNN won't result in a spike of her sales. That's really the blood that she lives on. Better that she should just fade into obscurity.
Kirk in upstate NY   March 13th, 2009 11:08 am ET
I think I am misty eyed for missy.
First of all, Congress has the highest rating it has had in 4 years and 52 to 42 percent of Americans think Democrats and "big government" have the better answer over repubs and "smaller government". President Obama's approval rating went up to 63 and you neo-cons are at 27 percent approval ratings.
Do you ditto heads really believe the rest of America is as shallow as you? I would have thought 53 – 46 differential on 11.4 would have given you a clue.
Looks like America is no longer buying what Coulter and crew are selling.
well. no wonder , most of her target audience either know someone, are related to someone or are a single mother..... whom she blames most of this country's problems are.. and these people are afraid to read what she says, then, they too will know, that in the eyes of the extreme right, that they too, are the dreaded liberals..... or maybe they will realize that if she is wrong on this subject, that she is probably wrong on her other opinions and then their entire worlds will be turned upside down.. so they are opting to go with ignorance is bliss, if they dont read ann's hateful words, then they are true.... its really simple to understand, that is if you have a mind of your own that you know how to use.....
