White House approves of Cramer smackdown

Many declared Jon Stewart, right, the victor in his face-to-face with Jim Cramer.
Many declared Jon Stewart, right, the victor in his face-to-face with Jim Cramer.

(CNN) - Jim Cramer's now-infamous appearance on The Daily Show Thursday night even won the attention of President Obama, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

At the White House Daily Briefing Friday, Gibbs said he and Obama had discussed the CNBC host's grilling from comedian Jon Stewart, though he wasn't sure if the president had actually seen it.

But for his part, Gibbs said he "enjoyed it thoroughly."

"I thought [Stewart] asked a lot of tough questions, and I am not surprised that the video of Mr. Cramer's appearance doesn't appear on CNBC's web site today," Gibbs joked.

It's not the first time the White House Press Secretary has mixed it up with a CNBC host. Late last month he called out reporter Rick Santelli over his tirade against the president's mortgage plan.

"I…think that it's tremendously important that for people who rant on cable television to be responsible and understand what it is they're talking about," Gibbs said then. "I feel assured that Mr. Santelli doesn't know what he's talking about."

and don't start with the home buyers, they want a home badly and would sell all there precious things to get it

we are to be responsible, not to set people up for failure

we need to blame everyone but them

the realtors, mortagage agents, bankers, politicians, wall street

and those above should lose there jobs, have their retirement taken away and be considered for jail time

they put this country at terrible risk that will take our families futures to recover from

It was a scolding, by Stewart, a much needed one over a network (CNBC) who does little reporting and more yes men talk.

Its a shame that Stewart had to be put in a position to do something news networks should be doing. Hes a comedy man, and I really hope they dont dismiss his talk with Cramer as that. CNBC needed this, they needed this public scolding because they seem accountable to no one.

The full interview on the Daily Show website is great.

We all were laughing Mr. Gibbs. I love Jon Stewart!

Hey Republicans, the DOW is up again!!! Where is the praise and acknowledgment for President Obama for his leadership. When the DOW is down, it's Obama's fault but when the markets are up, why aren't I hearing Republicans hail the President now??? The GOP- a bunch of hypocrites!!! Ha! Ha!

    Obama administration attacking:

    Jim Cramer

... basically anyone who doesn't agree or criticizes this administration is a target. Scary!!

PS – but Obama doesn't want terrorists being called "enemy combatants"

Take down the pigs that cooerced people to buy those bogus stocks!

CNBC are complete losers...they can dish out blame to Obama, but they take no blame for their REAL responsibility to the publice.

Jon Stewart is AWESOME! I watch him every night. He may be a comedy show, but atleast he is telling the truth 24/7~ he does NOT lie like hannity and oreally, the other 2 comedy shows on cable. He calls everything like it is, and always makes more sense than the guest. AND the best part is, he usually leaves the repukes on the show without an answer..LOVE IT!

Now if only someone would grill MSNBC like that for total lack of reporting real news we might be getting somewhere.

I can't believe in this day and age we need to rely on a cable channel comedian to get an honest answer about what happened to our 401(K)'s.

    Shame on the American media.

Although the Daily Show is presented as a joke, it is in fact far less of a joke than the rest of the media.

    So the President is discussing a show that he may have not seen;
I wonder if Mr. Gibbs knows if he has seen the $timulu$ package?

Gibbs is being a real jerk. Is this what is going to happen every time someone doesn't agree with "The Chosen One". People you better start taking notice of this, Gibbs and his thugs attack anyone who disagrees with them. Gibbs cannot control himself, he will do himself and Obama in because he cannot control his emotions. I am not defending Cramer or Stewart, although I suspect that Stewart was used by the White House. Just wait Stewart, they will throw you under the bus also. Gibbs just stick to the issues and stop thinking you're funny! i suspect that Gibbs has fun getting back at people because he was probably beaten up when he was younger!

A Bib buyaah for john Stewart, although Cramer is now the fall guy for all the manipulators in hedge funds as well as mutual funds.
Despite thier high fees and comissions, they can't help themselves from taking your money.
We need an investigation of all large fund managers and of their rumor spreading as well as timely buying.
My 401K may have benefited from thier actions as well as losing from them, but a level playing field is what was promised.

Perhaps Jon Stewart got serious and took Cramer to task because Jon Stewart, like the rest of us, lost a significant amount of money from his retirement accounts. I'm furious with what has happened and I'm glad Jon Stewart is too. With only three years left before I am scheduled to retire, I will NEVER make up what I lost.

    I'm proud of Jon Stewart . . .

It's sad when enemy combatants get more consideration from the White House than US citizens who VOTED for Obama that offer criticism. This is how radicals run the country, hope you like what you are seeing because we have at least 4 more years of it.

You have some serious issues. I am not praising just because the stock market went up for 4 days. I have lost a ton of money due to your "Chosen One". I supsect that you must be very young and naive and writing down what others tell you to.

Tis White House is full of clowns, from the top on down. Maybe Obama can discuss his knowledge of the markets – oh that's right , he has none. Don't they have better things to do than wage was on journalists – like hire a staff for Tiny Tim?

Am I the only one who thinks the Obama administration should maybe focus on their laundry list of promises before worrying about what the entertainment business is doing? Gibbs and Obama have already proved to be a fraud, only 2 months in..., and I was a huge supporter, how naive I was... the media seems to not know how to report the truth, so for starters let's talk about something with substance... Obama's promise for earmark reform and bipartisanship... BS!
