Obama jokes: GOP wants me in the Amazon

President Obama jokes with reporters in an Oval Office meeting with Brazilian President Lula da Silva on Saturday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Obama took a lighthearted jab at Republicans Saturday after a nearly 35-minute press op with Brazilian President Lula da Silva in the Oval Office.

It came when a Brazilian reporter asked him whether he planned to visit the Amazon. Obama joked: "You know, I would love a trip to the Amazon. I suspect that the Republican Party would love to see me travel through the Amazon and maybe get lost."

Obama said he was looking forward to visiting Brazil, though no dates had been set.

"I will tell you that because I'm somebody who grew up in Hawaii, I felt it was very important that I at least go to Rio, where I understand the beaches are pretty nice."

Indeed, the GOP led by the Voice of the Party, Rush Limbaugh, truly does want Obama to fail... and failing that, I am sure they would like him to come to bodily harm in the Amazon or anywhere else!

This appears to be a battle between good and evil! And there is little doubt that the evil IS the GOP! They were evil in power and they are just as evil out of power... only out of power they have not seemed to realize that they are absolutely irrelevant! We voted for Obama overwhelmingly because we WANT his agenda! One of the reasons theGOP cannot come to this realization is that the Media is bound and determined to treat them as if they do matter! Such a double standard! As if WE cannot see that for ourselves!

I can guarantee you if you thought Obama was a celebrity in Europe, you can't compare how he will be treated in Brasil. There are many people of mixed ethnicities there and their politics are center-left. Obama would have to reserve a very special venue, almost like Carnival. It would be a great event to see.

What a stupid comment to make in the presence of a head of state. I guess we can look forward to more from such a errr, smart guy.

President Obama understands very well what the republicans really want to do to him or at the least have done to him and getting lost ain't the half of it. Watch your back my friend. They sure are... but not the way you would hope for.

Well, since I'm one of the unemployed that got screwed by your COBRA plan, don't call me if you get lost in the Amazon.

If Obama did get lost in the Amazon, he'd probably stumble out a few days later with a cure for cancer... Don't let the GOP keep you down, continue to allow them to keep you strong.

The "need" for President Obama to travel abroad is greatly needed due to the Bush administration's LACK of diplomacy (or more likely RECKLESSNESS).

No, Mister Obama. We want you here to serve as a bad example: a liar and breaker of promises.

Even a thirteen-dollar a week tax break doesn’t help if we don’t have a job.

Maybe he should get lost in the Amazon and then the Dow would hit the record of 14,000 again like it did with President Bush at the helm!

Obama is at it a again. He's getting his bearing right and that's nice. In Japan, we say 'jozu desu ne' when some one is doing his best and that goes for Obama.

    "Jozu desu ne!"

Bush is probably wondering why Republicans would want Obama to get lost at a book company.

The Republican party should be flattered to be treated with any respect by the President. They amount to now as useless cowards who wave the flag and brand the cross and not much of any thing else. Pathetic "Americans".
