Gibbs takes swipe at Cheney, 'Republican cabal'

CNN

Watch Gibbs take a swipe at Cheney.

(CNN) – White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs took a slap at Dick Cheney Monday, likening the former vice president to controversial talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh.

The comments came at the White House daily briefing, during which Gibbs dismissed Cheney's statement Sunday on CNN that several of President Obama's policies had left the country less safe.

"Well, I guess Rush Limbaugh was busy, so they trotted out the next most popular member of the Republican cabal," he said. "I would say that the president has made quite clear that keeping the American people safe and secure is the job - is the most serious job that he has each and every day.”

On CNN's State of The Union with John King Sunday, Cheney defended the Bush administration's policies on the handling of enemy combatants.

"I think those programs were absolutely essential to the success we enjoy, of being able to collect the intelligence that let us defeat all further attempts to launch attacks against the United States since 9/11," he said. "I think it's a great success story. It was done legally, it was done in accordance with our constitutional practices and principles…"

Gibbs later dialed back his comments, after being asked by a reporter if the sarcasm was the official White House "sanctioned tone" toward the vice president.

Watch: Cheney questions Obama's policies

"Some times I ask forgiveness, rather than for permission," he said. "I hope my sarcasm didn't mask the seriousness of the answer…that for seven plus years the very perpetrators that the vice president says he's concerned about weren't brought to justice."

Cheney should be taken to a town square and then in front of all have his gonads smashed with a hammer. If he has any. What a piece of crap and to use a term from his youth a true " Draft Dodger" . Here is a man who has no trouble sending people to die for his pocket book but refused to serve himself. What a sorry excuse history will judge him to be a wasted and useless individual. LIke his boss the chimp.

I don't see how Bush got us atttacked. He was working with "intelligence" left from the Clinton administration.

Um, Dennis, the problem wasn't the intelligence from the Clinton administration, it was the fact that Bush ignored all the intelligence from the Clinton administration. Clinton said we had to keep an eye on that Bin Laden guy, and Bush said "Who?" Then went on vaction.

If I understand the article correctly, it seems that Mr. Cheney's concept of freedom is the freedom of large businesses to do what they want, and the Democratic Party's concept of freedom has to do with the rights and liberties of the individual.

I'd say Cheney is far worse than Limbaugh. Limbaugh has only spouted rhetoric and hatred – Cheney has delivered the country to where it is now – a financial wreck that no country on earth has any interest in helping – because Cheney and Bush made us out to be big bullies. Thanks – DICK! You really made us safe.

The idiots who are claiming that Bush and Cheney caused or let us be attacked on 9/11 are the same ones who will be blaming them when something happens on Obama's watch.

As for Gibbs, I get nauseated every time I look at him. He stands there so smug and self-righteous, mocking everyone who doesn't agree with Obama.

The horrifying dimensions of REpub stupidity is summed up in this entry by Dennis: I don't see how Bush got us atttacked. He was working with "intelligence" left from the Clinton administration.

Really Dennis? Is that the way your brain works? That President Bush can't be blamed for being asleep at the wheel on the morning of September 11, 2001 because he was working with Clinton-era intel?

I would have said a lot more after being subjected to CNN's Cheney infomercial yesterday.
CNN and John King should be ashamed of themselves. The most trusted name in news lost a lot of credibility yesterday.
New name for John King's State of the Union:
    "John King's Softball tournament"

Cheney and Bush allowed the attacks to happen on 9/11 so they could start a war and make their buddies get rich by extending them government contracts for defense. Personally I would LOVE to see congress enact a law that doesn't allow a company to profit off of war. If companies can make billions of dollars from a war wouldn't you think they'd like to see a war happen or even make a war happen?(Bush & Cheney). The last administration was all about oil and making their connections tremendously rich on the back of the American people.

Uh...Hello White House. Stop fighting radio hosts and ex Vice Presidents. PS...the 'cabal' is coming for you in 2010 and 2012. Maybe you should, like, try and govern intelligently a little before then instead of glibly yucking it about the evildoers on the right.

I love how you idiot liberal democrats never have any actual evidence on Bush or Cheney, but still insist they are guilty... of something, but you can't show, or back it up with facts. You can try to back it up with your emotional tirades and opinions on issues, but just because you disagree with Bush and Cheney, doesn't mean they broke any laws.

Of course, I don't expect liberal democrats to have a logical argument about anything. They refuse to even admit that democrats helped in the housing market crash.
