(CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele filled a key staff position Monday, naming Trevor Francis to head the RNC's communications division.

“I am excited to be adding Trevor, a communications strategist with extensive private sector, political and government experience, to my team,” Steele said in a statement. “Filling key staff positions, together with analyzing and implementing the findings of our top-to-bottom review of the committee’s operations, will help the RNC spread our message and elect more Republicans."

The selection marks the new communications director’s second tenure at the RNC. He previously worked under former chairmen Haley Barbour and Jim Nicholson. The Burson-Marsteller managing director also worked on George W. Bush's 2000 presidential campaign, later serving as a press secretary in his administration.

He might end up as Stephane Dion of the Liberal party of Canada who led the Liberal's to the worst outing in their history

Michael Steele has had a rough two weeks and I will be surprised if he lasts a year as the head of the RNC. The bottom line is this...deep down inside he is a moderate Republican, and the base of the party is extremely conservative and HATES COMPROMISE.. He just won't last.

I hope he has appointed a robot as the head of RNC communications. It is time robotic beings ruled the world.

The Republicants need to come up with a coherent and constructive message before they can start broadcasting it. Of course they'll have to get Rush Limbaugh's "I approve of this message" endorsement first.

I am thinking of all sorts of petty childish statements to make to this report. None of them are productive, though, so I will settle for an obvious one.
Good Luck with your old ideas.

So ... was the first job skill required of Trevor ... the ability to pull Steele's foot out of his mouth?

@ TerryT, who said "The Bush/Obama recovery plan to THROW MONEY AT IT will work because you say so won't it?"

WEll, if you want to play that game, we can keep adding slashes and the names of all the EXPERT ECONOMISTS who said that "throwing money at it" was the way to solve it. Yes, you HAVE TO spend your way out of this type of problem. Those who still believe in trickle-down tax-cut nonsense and the random libertarian economist barking at the moon...those are the outliers, not the norm. You even have people like Nobel Prize winner Krugman saying Obama's not spending enough and he's just set himself up for a poilitical pothole when he is forced to ask for more later...shoudl've gotten it all up front. I'd be careful of the "say so" argument...we've been listenign to the GOP "say so" for 30 years and reality disobeyed at every turn.

Is Steele still the chairman of the RNC? I thought he had disrespected Rush Limbaugh, you know, the guy with talent on loan from "God."

    Right on Sniffit..
Problem is your argument requires someone with independent thought to understand it and the severe right wingers have their thoughts directly piped in from Limbaugh and Fox. Kinda like the Matrix.
