Last week, Laura Ingraham mocked Meghan McCain on her radio show after the daughter of former GOP presidential nominee John McCain urged Republicans to seek compromise with Democrats.

(CNN) – John McCain’s daughter Meghan has a message for conservative talk-show host Laura Ingraham: “Kiss my fat ass.”

Last week, Ingraham mocked McCain on her radio show after the daughter of former GOP presidential nominee John McCain urged Republicans to seek compromise with Democrats. Ingraham called McCain “a Valley Girl gone awry” and a “plus-sized model.”

McCain, who writes about politics and her personal life for The Daily Beast, went on The View on Monday to fight back.

“What do young women think when I speak my mind about politics and I want to have a political discussion about the ideological future of the Republican Party, and the answer is, ‘She’s fat, she shouldn’t have an opinion.’ What kind of message are we sending young women?” she asked.

“It infuriates me,” she said. “I’m a political writer on a blog, and all of a sudden I’m too fat to write?”

The View’s conservative co-host, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, called Ingraham’s remarks “a low blow.”

McCain said she felt like Tyra Banks when the model “went on her show in her bathing suit and said, ‘Kiss my fat ass.’”

“That’s what I feel right now,” McCain said. “I’m like, ‘Kiss my fat ass!’”

Ingraham quickly responded to McCain once again on her show, telling McCain that she needs to learn to deal with satire and “teasing.”

“Can I say ‘lighten up,’ or is that offensive too?” Ingraham asked.

Ingraham sucks!

Taylor   March 16th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

Laura Ingraham looks like Chris Crocker, as in "Leave Britney Alone!", remember that guy? She wines like him too. The complete opposite of Ingraham, Megan McCain has good looks and brains too.

Dan in NC   March 16th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

I'm confused. Meghan is a Republican with her own intelligent opinions, and is not afraid to tell other conservatives when they really do need to shut the heck up.

Nothing like that has happened since the day I was born.

Gotta go.. this does not compute.. I think my head is about to explode...

Lisa   March 16th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

Meghan McCain is smart enough to know that the "Mean Girls" Republican party (Dick Cheney and Karl Rove being the meanest girls) is obsolete. They're like a bunch of jocks and cheerleaders who peaked in high school and never matured beyond name-calling and peer pressure tactics.

Though I'm an un-apologetic liberal a decade or so older than Meghan, I admire her willingness to speak out and enjoy the fact that she is a young, intelligent Republican woman who is un-apologetically moderate. She's a good role model for young women today. Why does her appearance matter? Once again these talk show hosts like Ingraham need to ask themselves whether they have ever attacked the physical appearance of a politically-vocal man in the same condescending tone.

Kimberly in Arizona   March 16th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

Megan, your a TRUE Independent, and although your a republican now for your father, you are the voice of SO many young women, democrat OR republican. Your the future ingram, coulter, hannity, limpball, and orielly are the past, and they HATE IT! They are becoming more and more insignificant by the minute, that is why they are getting more and more obnoxious and ignorant. They are desparetely trying to keep their 15 minutes alive. I saw you on the VIEW, and you were awesome, and very respectful. No one knows who laura ingram is, thats why she picked a fight with you, people know you, and shes a leach, she needs you to survive..Ignore her now, dont let her get any more attention. People like her live for this, they flourish on hate and ignorance. Politically, I am not on the same page as your father, but he and your mom did a great job with you!!

chris   March 16th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

There seems to be something fundamentally wrong with Republican men. If they don't win, they want to take their ball home and let everyone suffer. They have the lamest sense of humor anywhere. I'm reminded of my now "ex" husband always retorting with "I was just kidding, don't you have a sense of humor" right after he had just humiliated me in front of the kids or guests. I have a great sense of humor, but when it gets down to bashing about how someone looks, that just too low. Ms Ingraham and Ann Coulter ought to go on a date and they can just spit at each other. Neither one has ANYTHING to offer to this country.

dan   March 16th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

Ingraham got caught using personal insults as a rejoinder to a political debate, got called on it and is now trying to cover her slippery tracks by implying that she was "just teasing."

Maybe the Fairness Doctrine needs to come back after all.

dave   March 16th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

Come on, Meghan. Why aren't you eating your young, turning on fellow Republicans, and using negativity to appeal to the base? If you want to be constructive you should really find another party.

SHIRLEY "60"   March 16th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

You, young lady, are one of the few Republicans that I have any respect for – don't let anyone change you. Your honesty is refreshing, and I look forward to your continued growth in your party. I'm glad to know that there is someone in your party with a brain, that can think for themselves! PS – You really should be a democrat (we don't mind people who don't always agree with us, in fact, we kind of like it), or at least an independent.

Meghan, have you ever thought of ditching the Republicans? From what I've seen of you, you're too bright, too rational, and too independent to march in lockstep with your Republican cohorts. You're too smart to be a Republican.

Victor Shaw   March 16th, 2009 2:58 pm ET

Way to go Meghan. The Republicans ought to realize that she is doing more to save the Republican Party from irrelevance than any of the right wing radio hosts or Congressional leadership has to date. Michael Steele has tried but he is ineffective and has an apathetic audience. That same audience will have a tougher time dismissing Meghan McCain. I gotta believe that Senator McCain is beaming with pride. Well done, Meghan!

Steve   March 16th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Michael: If you are going to insult people in writing, you probably ought to use spell check. Make sence? Not to mention the appropriate use of apostrophes.

You are right. It is not about star power or looks. I'm betting, however, that you voted twice for the "guy you'd most like to have a beer with" (like GWB would ever sit down with less than a millionaire – he had you so fooled).

We could use more people like you in the Republican party.

Al, NY NY   March 16th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

arithmetic is liberal   March 16th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Laura Ingraham's just jealous of a younger woman with more prescient things to say.

So Laura "Norma Desmond" Ingraham goes on the attack. She has her face pulled tight as a drum. And like the vampire she is, Laura Ingraham attacks young, fresh, vibrant Meghan McCain.

Funny thing is that the Republican Party only allows the "hot ones" in the spotlight, no matter how idiotic they are. Sarah Palin, Ann Coulter,... Ann's getting older and her book sales are falling. When Sarah Palin runs in 2016, no one will care because she'll be in her mid-50s.

Meanwhile, their other women who are too old or too fat langish in the background, like Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Yeah, Republicans aren't completely sexist at all...

Fat Gramma   March 16th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Yes, saying "lighten up" in that manner is insulting. Any pun about a persons weight should never happen. Next thing you know Ingraham will be talking about Meghan's sexual orientation. . . . which is also none of her business.

It's not all about look's and star power foolish people. It's about running a country….GET A CLUE (young america)"

Yeah, and the "adults" that ran this country the last 8 years did a "heckova job".
If the Republicans had spent more time running the country than being afraid of those "wacky, liberal, communist, pinkos" who "hate America", and are "terrorist apologists", they might have been successful. But when your party thrives on fear and BS, you aren't going to do so well.

It seems that Ms. Ingraham is still stuck in the "old party" mentality. It appears that she is incapable of evolving with the thoughts and beliefs of perhaps a majority of voting Republicans, and she is out of touch with the realities of the 21st century. Ms. Mc Cain appears to be reflecting the sentiment of those Republicans who don't have their heads stuck in the sand. Wake up Ms. Ingraham, and smell the coffee!! Deal with the reality of change, and the fact that your type of thinking has few Republicans confident in their party. Kudos to Ms. McCain – she didn't whine about Ms. Ingraham's nasty comments... she shot back. It appears she hit her mark!! Get ready folks... I think Ms. McCain may just be able to help make some positive changes in an otherwise stagnant political pond.

"Sorry Meghan if you put yourself out there to comment on politics you're fair game." – She certainly is – ON HER POLITICS. Criticizing someone based on their looks only serves to show that you (the general "you", not the specific) have no worthwhile counterargument. She makes enough of her opinions known to provide plenty of fodder for criticism. Choosing instead to criticize her looks essentially means she's won the argument by virtue of your inability to provide a counter on the issue.

Gigi   March 16th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

I admire her. There are few 'more seasoned' (OLD) Republicans who will be honest about the GOP. Let's face it, young people have lots to say and us older folks need to listen. The valley girl comment was just plain silly and its neither here nor there. But making comments about a womans weight is a BIG no-no and McCain's response was the right one. I liked how the response wasnt just 'Ingram is insensitive' but more of a big middle finger in her face.

As for not being news... it is news in the sense of how these ultra conservatives are treating the new generation of republicans that are moving to the center.

Anders   March 16th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

I don't agree with Republicans on a lot of things, but I applaud Ms. McCain for standing up for herself. There really isn't anything funny about calling her fat and implying she shouldn't have an opinion because of her weight. If Meghan is happy with the way she looks, who is anyone else to judge?

J   March 16th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

I agree this is not news... CNN your home for useless information and softball questions.

But Megan McCain is SEXY!

Voter   March 16th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

Thank goodness that all this is about someone who is NOT the daughter of the President of the United States of America!

Her parents must be mortified. I feel bad for both of them.

And the talk show host should be told to start looking for another job, preferably one where she is neither seen nor heard.

gt   March 16th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

good girl ... the other mental giants like oberman . mathews, hannity, and limbaugh are killing this country .... divide there little right and left wing fans and you see what narrow and close minded each side is... thanks agin ms mccain

Patty   March 16th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

Meghan McCain is the "Breath of Fresh Air" the Republican Party needs right now. Sarah Palin..........not so much. She is beautiful.

chuck   March 16th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

I will love to do what you told the VIEW.

The Last Gasp   March 16th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

The last gasp of a failing dinosaur is to attack a young bright minded individual trying to do something positive. I'm not a Republican and even I like Meghan. What kind of adult really acts like this? Even for ratings? Have a spine.

Maria May   March 16th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

You go Girl!!!!!

Jason   March 16th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

She's just a spoiled brat that needs to just shut up. Her political views are not wanted or needed, as are the Views. At least Laura has a common view with most conservatives, unlike Meagan McCain who just wants to call attention to her Blog. Why is CNN wasting time with this chick? I think that they need to spend time digging up the NY Times column and open dialog on how Bill Clinton strong armed the banks to lend money to minorities and the poor which put us in this shape. The Clinton administration knew these people couldn't pay the money back. Also, how Barnie Frank had an affair with the main man at, I believe Freddie Mack, when all this was going on. Now that is news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bleebo   March 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

Check out the Abraham Lincoln necklace. WOW.

Sniffit   March 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

As fluffy as this and the Palin nonsense is...I'll take it over watching Tucker Carlson lick Hannity's feet while O'Reilly and Rush get their self-loather groove on backstage.

Jon   March 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

Laura Ingra-who?

andrew   March 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

tjis is exactly like the neo cons of the repubs. either you listen and agree or you are going to be attacked. keep going gop you will be a non factor for along time with people like ingrham hannity limpbaugh and oreilly

chuck   March 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

This young woman definitely needs a man to give her some strong sex. She has too much of time for nonsense and not enough time to be sweating in the bed.

Lori from MO   March 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

I'm a Dem but Meghan McCain rocks. I don't agree with her on everything (ok, most anything), but at least she addresses the issues without being hateful, petty & mean (Ingraham, Coulter, Rush). Why would weight even come into the discussion? L.I. had nothing of substance to say so she resulted to name calling. How sad. That's part of why the Repubs are in such trouble now, they don't address/acknowledge the issues; rather they keep trying to crush dissent and shove pre-approved talking points down America's throat. At least Meghan offers actual viewpoints and not just bullet points.

And to Laura Ingraham: calling someone fat isn't teasing, it's called bullying and it's a major issue for young people today. You may want to look into it.

JT   March 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

YOU GO GIRLL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Obama will be proud of you.

J.Crobuzon   March 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

It's not 'teasing.' This is deadly serious. They want to get the votes to control our poor half-wrecked country again, and they will even rip up their former candidate's daughter if she goes against Rush's plans.

Michael-TX   March 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

Where is Cindy McCain (aka the Stepford Wife), shouldn't she be supporting her daughter thru all this. Guess we now know with whom the Stepford Wife sides with, the Laura Ingrams and Michelle Malkins and Ann Coulters of the the world (those 3 remind me of an old fable, something about 3 witches........)

Erick in AL   March 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

I'm starting to like Meghan. She's only saying htat the GOP should stop being rich stuck up and stubborn, and reach out to the young, minorties, and women. They don't seem to want to expand the party, but secure their "base" and that's it. the GOP is gonna go down if they don't get it togehter and stop being the party on NO and the party of America.More pople consider themselves Democrats these days, and you wonder why? People like Ingraham, Limbaugh, FOX News, and those that are too stubborn to hear what others say.

Nicole   March 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Right on Megan! These vocal "voices" (more like whining) of Laura and Ann are doing nothing to help women in politics, regardless of political affiliation.

Jill   March 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

I'm a conservative, but Laura Ingraham scares me

CF   March 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

I'm a Democrat, but I have a lot of respect for Meghan McCain, even before this. If there were more conservatives like her, people wouldnt be so turned off by the republican party. You go girl!

Carrie   March 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Way to go Meghan!!!! I did not vote for her Dad but I think this young woman is awesome ....I read her blog and if there is hope for the GOP it is with young people like her , not the likes of the old hate filled rhetoric of the talking heads that the far right loves.
This young lady is beautiful just the way she is!

Michael "C" Lorton, Virginia   March 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

WOW---A celebrity "cat fight,"--reminds me of a episode of Seinfield when Elaine and Cramer had a cat fight with Raquel Welch.

Paula   March 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Laura Ingraham, in my opinion, is an Ann Coulter wannabe...say outrageous, childish, and irresponsible things in order to get attention. One must wonder what occured in their childhoods and young adult lives that created such a strange combination of insecurity and egocentricity. I say to Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham, "At your age, high school behavior doesn't become you. Even in high school it's pathetic, but when adult women behave in such a way the pathetic-factor is greatly multiplied." Like an earlier comment, I too hope that Megan McCain and those like her are the future of the Republican Party. If so, there is hope; however, if the Republican Party's future depends on the mouths of Rush, Laura, and Ann, then the party and the country will suffer greatly.

Steve   March 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Ingraham's comment was not made in jest. It was not satire. It was not funny. And she knows it. I think it's been years since I last heard her name. She must be desperate for publicity. And I am no fan of Ms. McCain.

demetra   March 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

It's really funny how the Republicans are starting to turn on each other. Are Repulicans evil or just plain old mean?! Maybe if they would have stuck to the issues instead of how people look and such, they might have had a better chance on 11-04-2008. I'm a Democrat, (obviously) And personally, I like Meghan.

Diane Panama City Fl   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Now Ingraham wants Megan to "lighten up"? There's no room to lighten up because of her disgusting, Coulter-esque mysogynistic comments. Here's one for you to respond to Ms. Ingraham (then we'll find out who needs to lighten-up): At the end of WWII, the French shaved the heads of women like you so they could tell who had been "consorting with and giving comfort to" the Nazis.

BJ from PA   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

She' s awesome and a beautiful girl! You go girl! Will her daddy have the stones to come to her defense?

Jack   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Teasing? Isn't that what teenagers do? Laura says Meghan should "lighten up" - How about Laura "growing up?" Making fun of one's physical appearance is usually what happens when not so bright people run out of ways to attack someone. It's the verbal equivalent of punching someone when you run out of insulting things to say. Sad. I'm a Democrat but respected John McCain even though I strongly disagreed with his ideas (and his ill-advised choce for VP). But I really respect his daughter. Republicans should be listening to her if they want a future.

Arnold G. Burr S.R   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

I'm sorry i,forgot the I.The suicide

Mickie   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Isn't it ironic that Megan only speaks her mind about republicans "AFTER" her father loses the election. She's just like the two-faced republicans and now trying to make money supposedly opposing some of their views. GIVE US A BREAK – I MIGHT BE POLISH BUT I WASN'T BORN YESTERDAY!

Jody   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Good for Megan McCain, she is right, the neo-conservitives are not republicans! Instead of helping resolve our nations problems they just attack anyone who doesn't share their views. They are the ones who led us for the last eight years! They are not as smart as they think they are, are they? Megan Mc Caine' "You Go Girl!"You Are Right!

Minnesotan   March 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

Conservative talk-show hosts, like Laura Ingraham, Rush the Druggie, Sean the Fool and Bill-O the clown act more like 'enemy combatants' and traitors. It's funny that they still have any credibility at all, but then conservatives are known to avoid facts and prefer Hitler-style chants.

TJ   March 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

Well the comment was mean, but Meghan McCain is a moron. It was funny she was on Rachel Maddow, and when Maddow asked her what to do to fix the economy this bimbo responds, "I agree with my father, you have to slashe earmarks." Hell you dumb broad earmarks are only 1% of the total budget tops! Then she replies, "I keep reading about the economy, I just dont understand." WOW.............it must be nice for your daddy to open his golden roledex and get you a nice posh job writing for a politically charged blog, when you dont know the first thing about economics! She means well though I give her props for that, but she is trying to give an opinion about a subject matter she is not well verused enough in............a lot like Sarah "the moron" Palin!

lexthebomb   March 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

Ms. McCain most certainly has a way with words. Every now and then it is good to laugh; as a matter of fact, "laugh loud, and laugh a lot".
I'm sure Will Rogers is "rolling over in his grave", with waz happenin.

Roy   March 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

I CANNOT WAIT for the Bristol Palin/Meghan McCain Play-Date!!

Doug from OH   March 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

I'm confused... is she a Democrat or Republican? Does she even know?

GJP   March 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

Lighten up, Laura says, she should not have made the comment in the first place, she implied because Meghan is "plus size" or any other "plus size" person shouldn't have an opinion, that was stupid for her to even make a statement such as this! Why can't people have an opinion other than yours?

Come on Republicans, you need to wake up and support our new president.

TerryT   March 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

Lulu   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

That's the republican way–To insult and ridicule individuals they don't agree with and then when they get called out on it, call it satire.

Bill   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Meghan may be "plus size", but she is bright and at least trying to forge a future for her party. Ingrahman, like the rest of the majority of the Republican Party, is sad, old and increasingly irrelevant.

Jeff   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Note to Laura Ingraham, Meghan was just using "satire" and "teasing" when she said to kiss her rear.

BTW if Meghan McCain shouldn't have an opinion due to her weight (by the way, no way is she fat), then why do people in the conservative movement still side with the Goodyear Limbaugh?

Independent   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Megan you ROCK!!!!!!! You have more courage than the entire GOP/RNC....Anytime you stand aganist radicalism, you will be attacked by the radicals

barbara   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

I agree with Laura. This young lady needs to lighten up. She disrespects her family when she shows that she has no self control. We must keep our opinions in check now adays less we offend. No wonder the young lady can not find a boyfriend.

a southern bell   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

How typical of the conservative right. When they have nothing substantive to say, they resort to personal attacks. When they are called on it, they say that they're only kidding, and lay the blame back on the person they attacked. Is it any wonder that they've lost power?

Meghan McCain has become the new leader of the Republican party.

Dallas Gal   March 16th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

She is exposing thoughtless criticism...Coulter's relentless idiocy and now this, a tasteless attack from another female political commentator.
Our president doesn't talk down to us, we are expected to act like informed and conscientious adults...more people should follow that example, just as Meghan is doing.

I like conservative talk radio, but I do not like Laura Ingram or Rush Limbaugh.

Stick with Mike Gallagher and Glenn Beck.

Meghan McCain shows that a bright independent woman can voice the only oposition to her own party. I commend her for that. As far as the fat comment from Laura Ingram, I hope she never has to worry about her weight. And if she does, the people around her will support her.

Why some are people so mean?

Obama 08,12

Margot   March 16th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

As a life long Democrat I have one thing to say, "You go Meghan!!!" This is a very intelligent young woman who will change the face of the Republican party. She is proof-positive that you can be for less government and not be a self-centered, arrogant, uneducated, narrow-minded jerk. All the Limbaughs, Ingrahams and Coulters need to watch their backs because soon there will be a new sheriff in town.

alex   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Sure you were 'teasing', Laura! It's not good to tease someone's weight, but since you seem to think so, why haven't you teased Limbo? Maybe some needs to tease your cotton candy hair!

Jack - DSM, Iowa   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Laura Ingraham now says she was "just teasing"? Please. She is being called on the carpet by Republican women for being a hypocrit and is trying to back track.

barbara   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

I agree with Laura. This young lady needs to lighten up. She disrespects her family when she shows that she has no self control. We must keep our opinions in check now adays less we offend.

MaryAnn   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

You go Girl! Laura Ingraham can kiss mine too!

Ron   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

I'm very tired of both parties thinking themselves so high and mighty and even more so when think themselves the be-all, end-all to what ever.
Good for you Megan. While i'm not Republican, i can really respect this.

GO MEGHAN!   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Meghan – while I don't always agree with your views on the issues, I have come to respect you a great deal. You are a credit to young woman for standing up for yourself and for taking on some pretty nasty people. Keep making us proud and reminding us what America is all about.

Dubliner   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

It's a pity that Ms. Ingraham would choose this route of attack. She clearly is devoid of any political skills if all she can do is comment on how someone looks. It's another example of just how much the republican party is out of touch.
The fringe elements of this country (on both sides) are being cast adrift. Horray for those of us in the middle.

henry   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Whenever Ingram or Coulter get called out they fall back on the "It was only satire or humor excuse". When have either of these women ever been mistaken for a comedian or a satirist? Not a funny bone in either of them. It was an outright attack by Ingraham who tried to pull her punch so as not to offend John McCain. Now that the criticism is coming from within the Conservative party extremist like Coulter, Limbaugh, and Ingraham are feeling misplaced because they can't use their hate-speak on their own members.

jim - chicago, illinois   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

I am, and never will be, a Republican. But what Laura Ingraham said is totally out of line, rude and ignorant. We as members of opposing parties, can agree to disagree, fight for what we believe in, and have healthy, meaningful discourses without stooping to junior high school name calling. For Ingraham to try and claim she was teasing insults the intelligence, regardless of party. To Ms. McCain I say, YOU GO GIRL!

Cathy Brandes   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Way to go Meghan!
I do not believe for one second Laura Ingraham meant that as "satire" she meant the comment literally and is out of line. If Laura Ingraham wants to comment on the content of Ms. McCain's comments, that's one thing but to dismiss her by calling her "plus-size" is way out of line! I for one agree with Ms McCain that Republicans need to seek ways to comprise with Democrats. We have serious problems that can be solved by working together.

Joe in Austin   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Ingraham's remarks were neither "teasing" nor merely "a low blow". They were denigratory, impertinant and dishonest. Par for the course for the extreme republican blowhards. McCain is showing a natural political style that is both truthful and powerful. Ingraham is out of her league, and really needs to just let her betters talk.

Brian   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

I like this Megan McCain, she's feisty.

Jared   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Megan is hot and for God's sake, she has the ability to think rationally. The republican party would do well to increase her visibilty and others who think along her lines.

Della Isley   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

John, keep your vote, we in the Republican party don't need it. We also don't need Megan McCain.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Didn't hear any complaints when Gov. Arnold S. said Obama needs to put some meat on his "skinny legs". This is not to say I agree with name calling but how soon people forget until it happens to them.

Carl from MI   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Whether it's Rush, Laura, Ann, Bill-O the Clown or any of the other brainless conservatives in the media... they just can't help showing how STOOPID, hateful and intolerant of everyone else.

This is the reason why they've lost big-time in the last two elections... and will keep losing more elections as well. We have these people to thank for the Republcian party becoming a casualty of evolution.

Keep chasing those watermelons... just like the Dodo birds in "Ice Age".

Marsha   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Watch out Repubs!!! - This is the future of your party and She's bright!!! Way to go Meghan!!!

McCain Supporter   March 16th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

Meghan, Not only did I support your father, I support you as well. People have to talk. Look at it like this they are talking about a good subject and just letting some other poor soul rest. Keep your head up and walk tall. Walk the walk and talk the talk. You are a beautiful person inside and out and people are only jealous.

Ingraham is worse then Iuus - She's A Pig   March 16th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

Laura has the IG of donkey doo doo and the manners of a cockroach. I'd tell her to kiss my Repulican fat arse, except I don;t want her anywhere near me or my Republican Party. Whenever you see a personality like Ingraham ranting like this, it is becasue they have no talent; no knowkedge; and therefore nothing of substance to say. Ms Ingraham's limited knowledge of political issues would make a warthog sound like Einstein.

Richard in California   March 16th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

Laura Ingraham is an Ann Coulter wanna-be. Sad that anyone would aspire to spew such hateful (and frequently factually dead wrong) rhetoric. Truly one who believes the saying, "There's no such thing as bad publicity."

Attacking someone on their weight for espousing a political view contrary to one's own is the polemical equivalent of holding your breath to win an argument.

caron   March 16th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

Meghan, You have my support on this one – and I'm an Obama Mama! Laura – it's easy to say you were just joking, when everyone knows that you're not – that seems something straight out of Rush's playbook!

Laura – that comment turns off most women whose body is similar or even bigger than Meghans. So what, are all Repub women skinny? Is that the only way you can get their men to marry them? Is that why the GOP is so unhappy because they're hungry? Just wondering...

rachel   March 16th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

Felicia   March 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

Robert in Georgia   March 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

I'm enjoying how the Republicans have turned on themselves and are now eating their own. But isn't all this in violation of the Republican God and Idol Ronald Reagan first commandment? Thou shall not speak ill of another Republican. Nancy must be turning Ronnie over in his grave

Kate   March 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

The best dig was when Meaghan McCain said she "had never heard of Laura Ingraham."

PAULO CARDOMAN   March 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

Sorry to say so but Ms McCain, you are acting like a spoiled brat.

John, Brooklyn, New York   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

Laura Ingraham is an ugly, moronic, sleazy, self-hating, trailer trash hag. Was that too severe, Laura? Get over it! Can't you take satirical teasing?

Cindy   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

Good for you Maghan!!!!

Karen Tinker   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

Love you Meghan!

Donna Maness   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

I would listen to Laura Ingraham over Megan McCain anyday of the week. Megan is a flightly spoiled rich kid who has nothing to do with her time. She does not have a glue how the real world operates. It was perfect for her to be on "THE VIEW", another show full of air heads.

citizen1   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

I can't believe that Ms. Ingraham said it was teasing. Is she a third grader? I know, it's an attempt at a CYA! Wait a minute, is this entire discussion about butts?

A little sad   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

"Ingraham quickly responded to McCain once again on her show, telling McCain that she needs to learn to deal with satire and “teasing.”

“Can I say ‘lighten up,’ or is that offensive too?” Ingraham asked. "

Ad hominem attacks are not "teasing". Ingrahm needs a time out.

Karen   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

If Laura Ingraham thinks it's not offensive to comment on someone's weight, then she's got even less sense thank I previously imagined.

Laverne   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

Before it is all over, Meghan McCain will once again, change her political affiliation either back to being an Independent or yes, a democrat. She is learning quickly that when dealing with the republicans if you actually have an opinion that is different you will be treated like a step child. Maybe Meghan is picking up where her dad left off when he was actually a Maverick. I am not a fan of the McCains, but good for Meghan for fighting back and not just going with the status quo!

Ingraham and Limbaugh, what a pair to draw to. LOL

Terri   March 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Laura Ingraham doesn't know the meaning of satire....unless you are talking about her life.

I'm really starting to like this chick.

Kim, Dallas, TX   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Ms. McCain....you go girl!! Don't let anyone make you think less of yourself for standing up for what you believe in.

Laura in Atlanta   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I say, "Good for Meghan!" for speaking out in response to those rude and nasty comments. Ingraham is just another shock jock Rush wanna-be. That is not satire; it's prejudice. I'm glad Meghan called her out on it.

peter k   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Craig Nazor   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I'm NOT a Republican, but this woman is 1,000% more impressive than Sara Palin!

Mike in NYC   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

She's not a "political writer on a blog," she's a blogger, like about ten million other fools. (Looks like it's time for me to start mine.)

And acting like Tyra. Yeah, that's what I call aiming high.

Ingraham has a point, though. Meghan really is low quality.

Shucks   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

It seems that Ms. McCain is seeing how disgusting her father's party is and can be when they feel threatened by someone with a brain.

ron   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

Meghan rocks. She is a young republican with a voice and an audience. I think she has a future in the party of Abe Lincoln. She should be looking to expand her audience and reach more of the younger republicans through cable. Alot of young people are getting sick of watching old man Maher run his mouth, they could use a fresh voice that is more in touch with what MOST of the country feels like.

p   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

Troublesome for the Republicans. Pundits fighting with pundits. Especially troubling – attacking one who even suggests a reach out across the aisle. Queue death knell.

Accountability   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

It's not necessarily what Ingraham says...she is just flat out offensive as a person.

Big Ed   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

I don't agree with her father, but I respect and agree with Meghan on a lot of things. She's an attrractive young lady with a good mind and a strong sense of self. She's a winner in my book. and Ingraham can kiss my fat $%^ as well!

adprnews1   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

Good for you Meghan. Hold your ground. Democrats and Republicans both need to understand compromise is the only way for the country to be successful. Too far left or to far right serves only a pathetic little slice of the electorate.

And last, I discharge stool with more intelligence than that twit Laura Ingraham.

Oops. Sometimes the medicine you force upon others tastes like poo. Sorry Laura.

Most Repubs impress me as just disgusting human beings with sour souls, but I'm liking Meghan McCain more and more everyday. She actually seems like a decent person (I wonder how long she can actually make it in the Republican party then?).

Interested in MO   March 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Isn't that one of the mantras of the right-wing hacks?
Say something nasty and offensive, and then claim that "it was only a joke, you're too thin-skinned".
Still doesn't work.

C. Smith   March 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

I think that Laura Ingram has "run out" as far as I'm concerned. I would say that her "teasing" of Megan McCain sounds like that of a 3rd grader, but that would be an insult to 3rd graders everywhere.

Ian Minneapolis, MN   March 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

I have great respect for Megan McCain. I think she has a very bright future ahead of her.

Angie in PA   March 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Amy   March 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Meghan, YOU GO GIRL!!

Marcy   March 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

It's unreasonably optimistic of Ms. McCain to expect civilized behavior of Ingraham, isn't it? But McCain's reaction is right on in so many ways:

1) Someone's physical characteristics aren't fair game in this kind of debate. McCain is always beautifully groomed and appropriately dressed. Her appearance shows respect for her audience and should command the respect OF her audience.

2) McCain is sending a strong message to the young women of America by not getting sensitive or mincing words about her appearance. She uses the f-word casually with a kind of self-acceptance that we all should admire. "So I'm fat. It's not all I am; it's not even most of what I am. And it has nothing to do with what I say."

You go, Megan. I'm a far-lefty who will never agree with your politics, but you've earned my respect as a human being. More people like you would give us some hope to have a reasoned discourse in this country.

Todd   March 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

At least she knows what she is!!! Now, shut up fatty!

Libby, Reston, VA   March 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Like Laura Ingraham has a sense of humor?? I am not a fan of hers, nor of the Republican party generally, but it's good to see a young person out there getting involved, writing daily and telling the Rush Limbaughs, Ann Coulters and Laura Ingrahams of the world that they are out of touch with young voters. Clearly, these pundits are having a hard time getting the message!

Good for you, Meghan!

jenn   March 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Maybe Meghan McCain will finally figure out that Republicans are often not very nice.

I'm baffled by people who admire the likes of Dr. Laura, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck et al. They're just mean. Not insightful, not analytical–just plain mean. But I guess a lot of people are looking for ways to make themselves feel superior.

D Va.   March 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Why is Laura so interested in Meagan's body anyway. Maybe she should just stick to her stick-friend Ann Coulter. Now there is a woman.

Paul, Seattle   March 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Meghan McCain is great.

Joshua College Station Texas   March 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

Ingraham and other mouthpieces in the Republican party are jealous of the attention Meghan is receiving and fearful of the potential popularity of her ideas, so they want to bring her down so she doesn't destroy what they stand for.

The problem with traditional Republican ideals is, they all come back to money, and placing the pursuit of wealth above all else. But such a foundation is hollow and was always bound to fail. From the beginning we learned that those who set their hearts upon riches will eventually fail. Meghan is more of a humanist and a populist, and she believes in putting people first (to what degree she understands this about herself is not yet clear, but it doesn't matter). This is a progressive position for Republicans and will always be more effective with voters.

A new Republican platform that is genuinely more people focused has the potential to compete with Democratic party ideals. All else they have traditionally stood for has now been demonstrated to be forfeit, and will continue to fail.

george nganga   March 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

It is one thing to have wolves fighting dogs;but to see two wolves fighting EACH OTHER? That is a new one! So some in the family sees nothing wrong with the family so much as to fight other members of the family who not only think there is a problem but also gives suggestions as to how to go about fixing them.
Dysfuctional family is the one that functions DANGEROUSLY!

JD   March 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

The victimization of America continues. I'm a victim, you're a victim, they're a victim....GET OVER IT!!! Ms. McCain shot her own argument down when, in her response, she said "I was LIKE". That is a valley-girl response. Ingraham was right!

liz   March 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

Ingraham seriously cannot understand that saying someone is unworthy because they are overweight is offensive? If it is so funny then is she calling Rush a fat drug addict? After all, it is FUNNY isn't it?

Republicans love mocking those who disagree with the far right, but then if anyone criticizes their politics they are "attacking" poor innocent conservatives, like when people so unfairly questioned the qualifications of a vice Presidential candidate...

Tom Kaye   March 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

Oh . . . the right wing talk hosts are only "teasing" when they attack liberals or anyone else who doesn't tow the line.

I see . . . it's only good natured ribbing!

Anyone who listens to Hannity, Coulter, Limbaugh, et al know exactly what they mean.

Phil   March 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

I love Meghan McCain! Way to go, and way to call out the superficiality of these radio hosts.

As for Ingraham's question of whether you can accept satire....

Well, as much as we'd love to cast your opinion off to the wayside as the excrement that it is, we have seen that if not careful, radio hosts become de facto leaders of major parties.

P.S: Laura Ingraham – Ann Coulter called & she said to stop stealing her act.

Daisy   March 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

Megan. Go. Go Go.

Wayne, Greenville TX   March 16th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

Meghan –

If the RepubliKKKans don't want you any more, there's room for you here in the Democratic Party. Unlike Laura Ingraham, we don't judge people by the color or size of their skin.

chelle   March 16th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

Typical conservative "personality"!! Slamming people insteading of having an actual discussion about something. Calling someone fat is NOT SATIRE, nor is it teasing..... It is simply trash-talking. If you disagree with her blog, then debate the points, otherwise keep your opinions to yourself.

Peggy   March 16th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

Typical, let's make offensive comments about someone's appearance, and when that person is actually offended, call it satire or teasing. Sounds like Ingraham has been following the Howard Stern method of commentary.

Kris D., Toronto   March 16th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

I don't think she's fat, she's actually very pretty and apparently very intelligent. If women like Megan are the future of the party, I'm thrilled.

If people like Laura and Rush are the future, well then I'll just keep supporting Democrats.

Michael   March 16th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

Here we go. Look everyone is entitled to a say, But whem megan mccain starts blabbing about poltics, she only makes herself look like a fool. First off. The liberals need to be more down to earth with republican's. Their to worried about what the young idiot's think. Democracy is not based on star power, and who is cooler. It's about running a country, and taking care of it's people.

It really scares me to think that these idiot young voter's whom have no common sence to what's going on around them are goig to be running this country.

It's not all about look's and star power foolish people. It's about running a country....GET A CLUE (young america)

Florida Dude   March 16th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

Ingraham meant what she said and Meghan meant what she said. The great thing is that Meghan won't back down from her words like a stooge. Go get 'em Meghan. It's time people start working with common sense and not party platform....That includes the Democratic and Republican party.

RAG   March 16th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

Laura Ingram was called out and pawned by McCain. Good for Megan.

jim   March 16th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

I love this girl! I think she's hot and she's awsome and she actually has great common sense! She has a lot of potential to lead the republican party I just hope she doesn't because I hate the republicans and don't want to be tempted to vote for them. I really wish she would switch to being a democrat.

Independent Voter   March 16th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

Ingraham pokes a stick in McCain's eye and says McCain should lighten up? Jeez, these old school repugs are absolute idiots.
What pearls of conservative wisdom is next from these old GOP geezers – We should cut taxes on the rich and freeze government spending to end the financial crisis and just say a prayer for all the unemployed rather than extend unemployment benefits?

BudInTexas   March 16th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

Hey Laura, you are a skinny moron!

I love a good cat fight. It distracts from the Limbaugh debacle the GOP has to deal with. Really, the GOP needs to find the new William Buckley to rescue its party. Otherwise, children such as Rush and Megan will keep it forever meaningless.

phoenix86   March 16th, 2009 2:08 pm ET

Reality Check   March 16th, 2009 2:07 pm ET

I like Megan more and more all the time.

Darian   March 16th, 2009 2:07 pm ET

Seems like Lara Ingraham has gotten her behind handed to her by an unlikely individual. I especially loved with Ingrahm tried to play off the situation as if Mega McCain was being too sensitive. Sure your war Mrs. Ingram. Seems like Megan McCain has more to offer than being just the daughter of a senator/presidential candidate. It's good that she seems willing to have dialogue among people who shares different idealogical beliefs than she does. Good for her!!

Joshua College Station Texas   March 16th, 2009 2:06 pm ET

Good for you Meghan.

It's becoming obvious that the Republicans are tying themselves off from their next generation. They are totally out of touch with them and do not understand them or the world they live in.

'Satire' is code for, "it's ok for me to insult you". So I say to Meghan, give it right back to her! She can give it out, but can she take it? Ingraham can't have it both ways.

Actually, I say, stay above the pettiness of Ingraham. Move on with your productive, progressive ideas and opinions. Don't let the entrenched, regressive, negative ways of the old schoolers pull you down!

Carol   March 16th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

I'm beginning to like her more and more.

RickM   March 16th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

Sorry Meghan if you put yourself out there to comment on politics you're fair game.

I will grant you that it wasn't one of Ms. Ingram's finer moments but you gain far more letting Elizabeth Haselbeck and others like her defend you rather than taking a cheap shot back at your accuser.

Shirley in California   March 16th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

Really CNN this is getting ridiculous! You are worst than the National Enquirer. Who cares what these two worthless women have to say to or about each other if it is not politically related?

Jackie in Dallas   March 16th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

Ingraham needs to learn that there is a difference between satire and teasing and just flat being mean. Dismissing Meghan as a "plus-sized model' and a "Valley Girl" (and where did she get THAT - it's only 20 years + out of date!), is not satire. Nor is it is teasing. It is insulting and demeaning. It is a personal attack on Meghan, not on her political views.

I'm not a big fan of Meghan, but I think she is clearly an out-spoken young lady, with some common sense. She doesn't pretend to agree with her father on all things, and doesn't pretend to a lot of knowledge and experience she doesn't have. She writes from her own personal experience, which, as a 58-year old woman, I find kind of cool. I don't agree with her all that much, but I spent four years in the military defending her right to say it. And she certainly makes more sense than a lot of people her age do!

Tom Bruce   March 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

I'd do it in the middle of Times Square and give her a week to draw a crowd.

Ariana   March 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

Beverly, NYC   March 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

Republican chick fight, I love it. Stand up for yourself Megan, don't let those size zero wenches talk smack, you're Mama's rich enough to buy and sell Ingraham & Coulter to the circus. If all else fails you can always become a Democrat or an Independent again, you sound to sensible to be with that other crowd. Can't cure stupid !!!

Jean   March 16th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

It's amazing how a "concervative" changes their tune when called on an obviously snotty remark. Suddenly Laura Ingraham is now a satirist. I say good for Meghan McCain. She calls it like she sees it. I am an Obama supporter all the way, but cheering for the only voice of reason coming out of the Republican party. Loved Meghan calling out the other over the top obnoxious female voice of the Republican party, Ann Colture. Can't wait for Meghan to take on Rush. Nobody else has the guts to stand up to the bloated blow hard!

Anthony   March 16th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

Wow.. these Republicans really do eat their young. Meghan seems to be one of the only rational bright spots in the whole party, and what's scary is how the conservative right radio seems to still hold on to a completely backward approach and perspective on the real world, while having such influence on their base.

You Go, Girl! Keep doing' what you're doin'! Any young person who has an interest, whether it be writing, painting, medicine etc... is more valuable to America than a old person sitting behind a microphone spewing hate. Laura Ingrahm's job is to be the female version of Rush Limbaugh to attract women to the mysoginist party. Meghan Mccain's dad didn't get my vote, but Meghan sure does. Our country's future is brighter because of young people like Meghan who writes from her heart, not from Republican talking points. I'm one democratic voter who is glad to see another viewpoint emerging from the Republican Party. Thanks, Meghan and best of luck in your future!

Theresa   March 16th, 2009 1:59 pm ET

You go girl! I'm a Democrat all the way. But let me tell you this... It's women like Meghan with a level head on her shoulders instead of a giant chip that could possibly save the Republican party. I'd rather see it die a slow and painful death.

Laura Ingrahm is a sorry excuse for an American and a woman saying things like that about McCain. Attacking her weight?? Typical Republican behavior...

In Houston, TX   March 16th, 2009 1:59 pm ET

From the moment she spoke out against Coulter, to her appearance on the Rachel Maddow show, to this incident with Laura Ingrham, Meghan McCain is proving that she is not Republican. She is articulate, intellegent and her arguments seem to be grounded in reason and fact. That alone proves that she is not a Republican at heart.

TerryT   March 16th, 2009 1:59 pm ET

And let the kind gentle left show how understanding and loving to others they are.

Excuse me I was just chocking on the hypocrisy of how many on the left being kind to people they politically disagree.

Those that are not of your left leaning politics are moronic monsters correct?

Change you can scratch your head over.

I agree! I'm not a follower of either of these women's respective media outlets, but to resort to attacking someone's appearance or personality instead of sticking with the issues is just childish and brings a very ugly dimension to any discourse.

Besides, Meghan is a beautiful woman. (And, this is beside the point, but I would hardly call her 'fat'!) To ridicule her figure is to send a negative message to many, many girls, women and men that only size 2 is acceptable–and that's not a good message!

Alan   March 16th, 2009 1:57 pm ET
