President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama leave for Camp David on Saturday.

(CNN) – President Obama turned commentator-in-chief Saturday as he addressed the performance of basketball teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

As he and first lady Michelle Obama were leaving the White House for Camp David, a reporter shouted out, ““Is the ACC overrated?”

“Apparently so,” Obama replied with a grin.

Obama’s sports commentary comes the morning after two ACC teams – Wake Forest and Florida State – were upset by lower-ranked schools in the NCAA tournament.

Wake Forest, a No. 4 seed, fell to Cleveland State, a No. 13 seed. Florida State, a No. 5 seed, lost in overtime to No. 12 Wisconsin.

Obama, however, picked an ACC team to win it all, predicting the University of North Carolina will beat Louisville in the championship game.

"Hay" M.A. Moore

Ask your self this...Would you go get a loan to get out of debt? Silly question right? Well that is exactly what Obama and Congress has just done. Smart? I think not!!

M.A. Moore   March 21st, 2009 4:39 pm ET

Hay Steve......... This man was a husband and a father before he became president, and when he is no longer president, he will still be a husband and a father, they still deserve some of his time. There is a 10 year old and a 7 year old who still need their daddy. So I guess he is suppose to give up their concerns for yours. He is doing his job, so give the man a freaking break. He didn't put this economy in this mess, never forget that. Just because he is president doesn't mean he can't have a life. And I enjoy seeing the family time. I'm happy to see a man that regardless what he is facing, or dealing with, his family is still going to be important to him too. You're always in my prayers, Obama Family.

Paul Revere   March 21st, 2009 4:31 pm ET

Obama signed into law the AIG bonuses!!! Geaux Tigers!!!

Dolores   March 21st, 2009 4:21 pm ET

Obama is doing a great job but GO PITT!!!!!

Comrade   March 21st, 2009 4:20 pm ET

Hey Andrew, you cite all the time Bush spent at Crawford but that was known as the Western White House so that wasn't necessarily vacation time as he also did a lot of work there...typical liberal trying to spin the truth to fit his purpose. Bush also wasn't seen carelessly on tv in the midst of an international crisis...how would that have looked had Bush been on the Tonight Show right after Sep 11?

lb   March 21st, 2009 4:20 pm ET

Steve.....I totally agree!
Mr Obama seems to feel 40 hour workweeks are all that is necessary. He certainly is enjoying the benefits of his title as well as taking an american monument and digging it up for a vegetable garden. 4 years it too long for this man.

Mark, AZ   March 21st, 2009 4:20 pm ET

Now we have a real President. A President that relates to our everyday needs. A President that relates to us as humans. A President that understands the plight of everyday Americans – the rich and the poor and everybody in-between. Have a nice weekend Mr. President. May God bless you. May God bless America.

Richard Manelick   March 21st, 2009 4:19 pm ET

It is good to read about something other than bonuses. That topic has been run into the ground and most of the common public who need help and do not get bonuses would rather that the News Organizations concentrate on something else. Enough is enough! No one complains that the professional athletes get giant bonuses for playing in a game.

CAW in MD   March 21st, 2009 4:16 pm ET

So far the ACC has been showing it is overrated. Wake Forest (4 seed), Florida State (5 seed) and Clemson (7 seed) all lost in the first round, two of them to the supposedly weaker Big 10 clubs.

Andrew   March 21st, 2009 4:16 pm ET

Funny how Republicans come out of the wood work to criticize Obama for going to Camp David when Bush is the all time record Holder.

Bush as President
Days Spent at Camp David: 487
Days Spent at Crawford Ranch: 490

I wish I could have 977 days of vacation in 8 years and that doesn't include his trips anywhere else.

The Bu   March 21st, 2009 4:16 pm ET

This economy was not destroyed in 3 months, so let's not all think that in any way it will be corrected in 3 months. As much as I support the President and the administration that he has put in place, there are a lot of unanswered questions, but I don't want to be as reactionary as I have seen many citizens and politicians. I am willing to give everything time. It took an entire eight years to get us where we are today.

Ohio Woman   March 21st, 2009 4:12 pm ET

All of you who knock President Obama for "spending" I ask that you kindly remember we are STILL spending $10 BILLION Dollars each month for the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld war in Iraq. That money could have fixed America's problems and we broke Iraq and we will be maintaining it for YEARS thanks to Bush's Administration. Now we must pay to mend America.

betty   March 21st, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Why would anyone think of going to Camp David as a 'vacation'? I suspect no president, even Bush, got a real vacation ,as we generally think of it. They are on 24/7 no matter where they happened to be located.

welches, oregon   March 21st, 2009 3:56 pm ET

I just LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing President Obama deboarding from Air Force One and knowing Michelle and the Kids will be with him at Camp David. This IS what we have all been waiting for!

Jimmy   March 21st, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Good job Obama. Keep giving money to AIG.

Crockett - La Habra Ca.   March 21st, 2009 3:52 pm ET

This just proves that being President , you can still relate to the rest of US...Enjoy your weekend Mr. President!

Thank You ,for all that you have done!

Rob from Pa   March 21st, 2009 3:48 pm ET

For kicks and giggles we added Obama to our Office pool. Out of 352 entries, Barry O'Bomber is currently sitting at 350.

I sure hope he has made better choices outside the basketball world.

Bemused   March 21st, 2009 3:47 pm ET

More evidence, if more were needed, that neither the left's nor the right's criticism of the media is valid. There is no left wing-media conspiracy and there is no government-media collusion. No conspiracies: the U.S. Media is simply so mired in and obsessed with trivia (be it flag pins or ACC basketball) that it has no time to research, investigate and report in any depth on those issues that have a real impact on us, individually or as a nation.

Jim B   March 21st, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Maybe more people should just give our newly-elected president some time to try to solve the numerous problems now in this country, and stop criticising every move he makes or every word he says. Could you solve a nation's problems in only 60 days?! Would you have the guts to even try to run a nation of over 300 million people? I give any person credit, no matter what political party affiliation, to occupy that office and take on that job.

patrick   March 21st, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Go obama he's going a great job trying to slove more then one problem at a time take the weekend I sure you still be working even at camp david

Yanick O'Meally   March 21st, 2009 3:41 pm ET

The president is entilted to his opinion and so what if he likes one team over another we all do

SouthernMan   March 21st, 2009 3:40 pm ET

UNC has a history of good basketball teams. I haven't followed B-ball in a long time, but without knowing anything about what teams are in the tourney I'd go with UNC.

RNC "Sit Down, Shut Up"   March 21st, 2009 3:35 pm ET

"Every team and every American will now believe they have a chance to win with President Obama in office.Thats what scares republicans the most."

–the Democrats and President Obama instilling in people the belief that they can be winners and do anything they put their mind to?! Oh shame on them, they're ruining the years of work that the Republicans put in to keep the rich, rich and the poor, poor.

Give me a break Republicans, this is the LAND OF OPPORTUNITY!

Democrat for the FAILURE of the Republican party!

kj   March 21st, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Wake loses this one game, and President Obama thinks the team is overrated? If a group isoverrated it's his cabinet if you're comparing job performances. As a Deacon fan, I'm proud of the record this group of young men had, and I would not judge them on this one game. I would imagine that probably only 2-3 of those on the team have a higher IQ than his cabinet members'combined .

Cali   March 21st, 2009 3:35 pm ET

You Libs who say Thank God for Obama, don't even believe in God! This guy is in so far over his head and you Libs just keep drinking the kool aide. Tell me, do any of you libs pay your taxes because none of your Democrap leaders do? Why can't BHO fill his cabinet and treasury post? Truly amateur hour in DC. Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are probably the worst leaders this country has seen. America will be lucky to recover. I don't hate him, and I hope for our country's sake that he succeeds at something, but you libs who believe that he is the second coming need to grow up. Pathetic how you slobber over this guy who has never done anything in his life and has now run up more debt than we can pay. His appraoch to Iran was real successful, wasn't it? HA, they laughed at him. So much for his olive branch.

Bonnie   March 21st, 2009 3:31 pm ET

to Biased: get a life and get over yourself. Just because they did not clear their social calendar with you or send you a special picture does not mean the daughters are not with their parents. Maybe, just maybe, they didn't feel the need to have them in the picture. Did ya ever think of that? you are a nut case, and you should not be that interested in the little girls. it's not healthy.

DC   March 21st, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Voterinohio   March 21st, 2009 3:17 pm ET

You are the president, you don't get free time anymore pal. Get to work. I can't get a job, I don't care about your worthless opinion on march madness. I can't get a paycheck, and here you are throwing parties in the white house every wednesday with taxpayer money and blabbing about basketball. I'm glad you are financially ok. Oh, and CNN, thank you for the useless news.

Barbara Askew   March 21st, 2009 3:16 pm ET

Since he has two young girls, I wish President Obama would recognize the Women's NCAA tournament with 1/2 the enthusiasm he has shown for the men. The women's championships include some awesome teams! Especially the UConn team which had a 33-0 season!!

Chris   March 21st, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Republicans = jealous haters

Go Tar Heels! I'm with you Barack!

jumbo   March 21st, 2009 3:11 pm ET

cant pick basketball winners or cabnet members......

stillsupportspresident   March 21st, 2009 3:08 pm ET

Come on, the bottom line is that the love an hate for the president seems to be all personal and barely ideological. Some people have accepted that he is Black (most minorities, we rarely discuss his race and talk about policy...at least my friends do) but most people have not. We hear the racist conversations over the water cooler before you know we are in the office, we hear what you say in the supermarket aisles. We know that if Rush says it, it is law to you but we don't hold a grudge. We just want him to be given a chance like you gave Bush's first term.

For those who question whether or not it is news, there are plenty of links filled with pestilence and destruction to appease your negative appetite.

Joe Unger, San Francisco   March 21st, 2009 2:58 pm ET

Obama is spending some time on this subject. I hope he isn't watching every game. The country is in turmoil, Mr. President.
And your picks are lousy.

Mark   March 21st, 2009 2:53 pm ET

Wisconsin Rocks! AAC is soo overrated just like the current celebrity in chief

Courtney of VA   March 21st, 2009 2:50 pm ET

Good choice Mr. Obama. I couldn't agree with you more. Go UNC!!!

Now get back to work and help fix this economy!!!!!!!!!

Sandy   March 21st, 2009 2:49 pm ET

Who else has a job in this country that only does their job and nothing else? We all deserve a personal life where we talk sports and everything else. Even the President of the USA. Get over it and quit being a nation of whiners!!!

Greg, San Francisco, CA   March 21st, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Cue right wing nut cases screaming about Obama not spending every waking moment thinking about the economy and daring to take a day off. Steve, by August 2003 Bush had taken 250 days off for vacation. Give it a rest.

Mike of Maryland   March 21st, 2009 2:42 pm ET

Thank GOD for OBAMA!!!!!!!!

Albert   March 21st, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Who cares about the news about Obama's weigh in on ACC? Is this CNN's priority to report this? What exactly can we get out of this reporting?

We would like to know how much he spent on the trip to Late Night show?

Tom in Delaware   March 21st, 2009 2:32 pm ET

It's not that I care whether Obama has an opinion on March Madness, it's just that it's not political news, so keep it off the Ticker.

Everybody needs to have interests outside of their work, and this is one of his, that's fine.

So I would hope that people could lighten up a little about this diversionary nonsense.

adam   March 21st, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Just so you know steve bush took quite a bit of vacation when he was in office!!! Atleast obama isn't going to a seclude ranch in tx, but somewhere he can relax and do some work!!! Get over yourselves where was bush when 911 happened?? Coming back from vacatio!!!

JM   March 21st, 2009 1:59 pm ET

Maybe he should pay more attention to filling his cabinet with qualified people who don't have tax problems rather than commenting on college basketball games and Jay Leno.

Holy TARP Money Batman   March 21st, 2009 1:57 pm ET

for eveery one who criticizes this president for taking time out and filling out brackets, where was the outrage when YOUR president took more vacations than any other president sin the history of the USA? Were you asking why he wasn't taking on four items at once. The hypocricy (sp) among the republicans is astounding

Kevin   March 21st, 2009 1:42 pm ET

Steve   March 21st, 2009 1:41 pm ET

OK, with the Country in Economic Crisis, He's been on the job less than 100 days and he's decided to go to Camp David for some R&R? Ridiculous! If I had just started a new job and then went on vacation I'd get fired! Quit worrying about the Tournament, and late night comedy shows, and Camp David get-a-ways and do YOUR Job Obama!!! I am so sick of this!!

Anonymous   March 21st, 2009 1:39 pm ET
