(CNN) - Rep. Barney Frank called Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia a "homophobe" in a recent interview with a gay news website.

The openly-gay Massachusetts Democrat was referring to the Defense of Marriage Act, which says the federal government and states are not obligated to recognize same-sex marriages, even if the relationship is considered a marriage by another state. Frank was responding to whether cases involving gay marriage should be heard in the high court at this time.

"I wouldn't want it to go to the United States Supreme Court now because that homophobe Antonin Scalia has too many votes on this current court," Frank said in an interview with 365gay.com.

Scalia is no stranger to criticism over hs views on gay rights. The Supreme Court Justice dissented from the court in 2003 in Lawrence vs. Texas, a case that struck down sodomy laws. Scalia said the decision was "a massive disruption of the current social order."

Scalia is also a raciest. He should not be on the Supreme court. He is a clear example that we need term limits in our courts.

isn't it odd how some are much more comfortable with the concept of war than they are in dealing with love and affection between members of the same sex?

Marriages of ANY kind should not be recognized by the Government. The word marriage is derived from religious roots, as such, it is only for religion to decide.

Marry who you want, man or woman. But don't be seeking the government to give you special treatment for being in love. Your only reward is living with and loving. And that should be enough!

PS: I don't think there should be ANY difference in tax codes or laws that seperate a married person from a single person. Single people are the one's who should be screaming bloody murder.

Antonin Scalia is a white supremacist and a homophobe, a man carved out of the WORST traditions of the United States. Scalia would make an excellent judge in Iran since his beliefs are more similar to those of the Ayatollah Khomeini than to those of a real American.

Scalia is an über-conservative Opus Dei Catholic, VOWED to obey the POPE in ALL things.

Rep. Frank was right to call him out.

Scalia SHOULD be REMOVED from the bench and be required to register as an agent of a foreign power (Vatican City / Vatican State).

Scalia is an absolutely evil troglodyte who has no business being on the supreme court. He's worse then Cheney, worse then Bush, worse then any of the other conservatives on the Supreme Court. And he makes Emperor Palpatine look like a candystriper.

Maybe we should make things even by calling Barney Rubble a "heterophobe". It not hard to understand that, at as an admitted homosexual, he is hardly an unbiased observer.

Barney Frank should be in jail. Why people listen to this moron is beyond me. He's a disgrace to America. And throwing out the old "homophobe" label to silence critics. Yeah, that will work, Barney.

Just because someone doesn't support gay marriage doesn't mean they are a homophobe. Liberals throw around these terms that make it sound like anyone who disagrees with them are evil, hateful people. I have several friends who are gay, but I don't believe in gay marriage. I don't have a phobia of gay people. I respect all people, even those who have different opinions and lifestyle choices than mine, and shock and surprise, I also respect people of all races too. Guess that blows the theory that all conservative people are racist homophobes.

This has to be repeated. What a great post. I hope all of us start thinking this way and understand government has no business in the marriage department. Consider us equals in the eyes of tax payers, and we'll be fine.

Who cares if Mr. Frank called Scalia a homophobe!? It's Franks right as an american to state that opinion.... It doesn't mean he hates gays/lesbians...... it does mean he fears their culture.......America please..... We are letting the news media bait us into every outrage..... let's leave FOX, CNN, & MSNBC to their own opinions, and in my outlook, rebel rousing, and think for ourselves!!!

I agree with Frank 100%. Scalia is an absolute disgrace to the court, as are a few others. It is impossible to offer "equal" treatment to all, while at the same time offer "unequal" treatment to some. The Constitution grants it, the Supreme Court rejects it. I believe many people are aware of how votes are cast in the high court, with heart and not based upon the law/Constitution. Barney Frank, I believe is just bold enough to actually verbalize it.
