Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm made the joke at a Washington dinner on Saturday.
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm made the joke at a Washington dinner on Saturday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm said she won't apologize to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for her crack at last weekend's Gridiron Dinner that the former Republican vice presidential candidate "really set back the cause of hot governors."

At the exclusive Washington dinner on Saturday, which was packed with top elected officials, Granholm also used the quip to needle Pennsylvania's governor. "You know where I'm coming from, Ed Rendell," she said.

A Michigan reporter asked Granholm if she planned to apologize to Palin, according to a Tuesday report in the Detroit News.

"No," Granholm said. "It was all in good fun."

Despite positive reviews for her comedy routine, Granholm said the she was a bit out of her element in the role.

"I'm not a stand-up. It was a bit of a stretch for me," she said.

Granholm played the role of Palin in Joe Biden's vice presidential debate prep sessions last year.

red33,cedar rapids, ia   March 24th, 2009 5:55 pm ET

I think Granholm would do well to keep her mouth shut when it comes to criticizing Palin, or any other governor. She has been a disaster for Michigan. Incidentally, how IS Michigan doing compared to Alaska and other states? See what I mean?

Just Bob   March 24th, 2009 5:54 pm ET

You don't apoligize for "jokes" but, you DO apoligize for inciting hate....(which is what Palin did.)

Kelly   March 24th, 2009 5:54 pm ET

Linda....Alaska does not even make the top five for unemployment, check your facts.

maria-campbell hall, ny   March 24th, 2009 5:54 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a ambitious woman lacking in all understanding. Good luck for those who think she could do anything but live in Alaska and eat moose stew. She will never get my vote –

Perusing-through   March 24th, 2009 5:53 pm ET

You did good Gov. Jennifer Granholm, we back you all the way. This "political correctness" thing has gone too far! And why should we be sensitive to Sarah “Airhead Attitude” Palin, when she still has not apologized for inciting violent rallies against President Obama during the campaign?

Pittsburgh   March 24th, 2009 5:53 pm ET

How utterly ridiculous! That reporter DECIDED she was going to have a headline. She would get one no matter what Granholm's repsonse was. Granholm could have:

1. Apologized
2. Refused to apologize
3. Answered "no comment"
4. Called the reporter out in the exact way I'm doing now.

No matter what, she gets a headline.

I hope whoever pays that woman's paycheck realizes just how empty her reporting is. There was a time when journalism meant something.

Joe In Washington   March 24th, 2009 5:53 pm ET

bahahhahahhahahahhaha this MI Governor thinks she's hot?!?! – or wait is that the joke? Sarah Palin is a much better leader then Jennifer- her state is a ghetto thanks to her. Sarah Palin has done so much for her state and God willing will be able to get us out of this casket that Obama is burying our country in.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin in 2012!

Lia   March 24th, 2009 5:53 pm ET

That is what the gridiron gathering is about – ham it up! No need for an apology.

DonnaC   March 24th, 2009 5:52 pm ET

Wow....must be the Republican's day for whining. I am amazed, AMAZED how any of you crybaby Repubs actually believe Palin is even worth talking about. Are you serious here, or just have nothing else to whine about. Get used to Mr. Obama or go live somewhere else. You just can't stand the fact that the majority of Americans are sick to death of you Republicans and your narrow-minded view of things. Your way or no way, right? Bush is back in his ****kickin' Texas where he belongs. Give it a rest! And throw Rumsfeld and Cheney in jail where THEY belong.

maria-campbell hall, ny   March 24th, 2009 5:52 pm ET

Are there any news channels available? I work with people quoting opinions aired on cable news programs. Who cares if one politican apologizes to another politican. I am worry about my 401K and gainful employment.

christi   March 24th, 2009 5:52 pm ET

Jeanne...you might want to do a little more homework on the state of Alaska before you tout how great the governor is running it...just a thought.

Caral from SoCal   March 24th, 2009 5:52 pm ET

As news consumers, we need to realize that if there is no news to report, the media will come up with SOMETHING to keep us tuned in. And, since no reporters actually understand the economics behind our current fiscal crisis – and few citizens do either – we have this fluff piece.

Great. Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Our country is snipping over politicians' looks while the debt is monetized. Sigh. Talk about taxation with representation! The children who will be paying this debt are not even a twinkle in their daddies' eyes.

Gov. Palin's decent and committed, but she hurt the cause of enlightened, educated, and professional women generally.

ayburke   March 24th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

No need to apologize Governor. What you said was funny and TRUE.

Brian B   March 24th, 2009 5:47 pm ET

I love how the "right" err I mean "wrong" like to say that Palin is doing a great job in Alaska. And of course their next statement is how Granholm is doing terrible in Michigan based on the budget, unemployment, the big 3, etc. Yea, it must be tough managing a state with a population smaller than Hawii and pure gold in OIL and land. Oh, and by the way Alaska is a welfare state. It gets more federal tax dollars per/capita than my state- MI. Yea that must be a tough gig trying to decide how to spend all the oil revenues. Granholm has real issues and I bet she wouldn't mind trading places sometimes. Palin is the joke–the only apology I would look for is from John McShame for picking her as a running mate.

James Blair   March 24th, 2009 5:47 pm ET

You stupid democrats should get off Sarah Palin back and let her get on with her duties as Governor of Alaska. When the Republicans take over the house and senate in 2010 and then in 2012 Governor Palin will be our 45th President of the United States of America we will see what you stupid dems in Michigan have to say then. The Governor of Michigan is going down the drain with the big auto companys.

CF   March 24th, 2009 5:46 pm ET

Considering all the much worse things Palin has said about people, sometimes seriously and sometimes "as a joke," theres no reason this simple humorous comment at her expense should be apologized for.

lee norris   March 24th, 2009 5:45 pm ET

I hope people aren't offended by this. This dinner is equivalent to a roast they do for actors. If Palin truly can't take a harmless joke like that.. that's her problem.

Dakota Kyle Evans   March 24th, 2009 5:41 pm ET

CQ Press' list of the 10 MOST DANGEROUS states just out:

No. 2 Louisiana
No. 3 South Carolina
No. 7 Alaska

Seems those states were in the news recently, oh yeah, the REPULICAN governors of these three states turned down some of the stimulus money that could have been used to save jobs of the police or expand the number of police.

That would be Jindal, Sanford and Palin.

All are considered to be in the running for the Republican candidate for the presidency in 2012. Just more evidence that neo-cons put the good of the repub party first and foremost and the let's the little guy fend for himself, literally!

Too bad all 3 of these governors put a higher priority on their Presidential aspirations than literally the physical safety of the citizens of their respective states.

Sad, when political posturing trumps the safety of America's citizens!

Kade   March 24th, 2009 5:40 pm ET

This is to Kate...if you had done your homework you would know that Alaska leads the country in unemployment. So your little lying darling Palin isnt all she is cracked up to be. She is nothing but a corrupt and lacking of morals to get what she wants. So please...dont think Graholm should apologize for anything. I mean come on repubs...Palin is the queen of hatred spewing and you all know it. This woman is the most inept person...now she is changing her mind on taking the stimulus money because her political ploy didnt work with her constituents...so now it is ok to take the money. Well Im sorry but if that is all it takes for her to change her mind you can have her. Least Obama sticks to his guns and doesnt let anyone change what he believes in. Palin changes her ideas like she changes her underwear. She is nothing but a joke.

Rene   March 24th, 2009 5:32 pm ET

To Ronald...California is also in dire straights...and guess who's running this state? an idiot republican! Arnold Schwarzenegger...whom i've NEVER voted for or his initiates a few years back! You repubs support the rich and spit on everyone else...you're all delusional.

Joe-what was I thinking, the democrat - ouch!   March 24th, 2009 5:29 pm ET

I don't know; are any of the democrats; including the big "One" in Washington doing anything other than joking? The reality of "Obma's Change you can believe in" is turning out to be "Change the Country May Never Recover From!" The fools in this country who elected these incompetent (Obama, Pelosi, Barney Frank, Granholm, Blegoyovich, Conyers, Cheeks-Kilpatrick, et al) professional left wing politicians to office, are ruining our world. That's the real joke, and the joke is on you. Are you laughing yet? No apoligies necessary; it's time to be afraid, very afraid. Granholm governs a state of "Haters" and "Racists". lol. These people can't be governed.
Kwamie, there is a governorship waiting for you. Your mom and your people will get your criminal butt elected and I know your family will continue to be laughing all the way to the bank. Michigan isn't completely ruined yet; but it's close. That is the sad truth; no apologies necessary; just prayers. Our way of life is dying before your eyes.

Bill Briggs   March 24th, 2009 5:28 pm ET

I did not see or hear Sarah Palin complaining. I agree, it was just a joke, made in fun at the Gridiron dinner. Pretty normal.

Another example of reporters trying to make news, instead of reporting it.

Chris Comment   March 24th, 2009 5:26 pm ET

Why is everyone is so serious? Why does everyone expect apologies these days? Say something and mean it. Stand behind it. Show a backbone. I'm glad someone is not apologizing for something they shouldn't have to apologize about. And why are all the Palin backers always up in arms. Palin was a one trick pony. The Democrats are begging her to run in 2012 because a donkey could beat her, she has already been proven on a national stage not to be worth a fill in the blank as you wish... And everyone should be concerned about Michigan, it is part of this awesome country we call America, it deserves to be treated as so and is not a joke. The pain experienced there is not good and hopefully will be contained and I pray they get things right and get out of this mess.

Piper   March 24th, 2009 5:26 pm ET

The Republican party has become nothing but cry babies.

Sarah   March 24th, 2009 5:26 pm ET

I love Granholm, and she's right not to apologize.

She is very smart and works hard for her state. If there wasn't a rule about the President having to be born in the US, I would be saying Granholm 2012. But unfortunately she was born in Canada, so that would be outrageous right? Hmmm well I guess we'll miss out on this great leader.

Roland Farrr   March 24th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

Jennifer Granholm IS a joke! She said,"I'm not a standup!" Boy, how correct can anyone be, she is not a "standup" anything! As a retired person living in Michigan, I had seen how she has plundered this State!

It will be interesting to see just how long it takes the "Liberal" voters to realize just what a mess this fiasco of an administration has gotten us into!

KG, Twin Cities   March 24th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

Why not drag the speaker at that fancy New York dinner that made fun of President Obama's big ears through the mud? Huh? Because it was Mr. Obama speaking. It's called a sense of humor.

Jeanne   March 24th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

To Scott the Independent, you may want to check your news, there's an online petition against Obama at Notre Dame's commencement. I guess not every one is so taken with him.
Back to the topic, maybe Michigan's governor could take some lessons regarding successful management of a state from Gov Palin.

greg   March 24th, 2009 5:24 pm ET

Granholm has run her state into the ground, and MI now has one of the highest unemployment rates. Gov. Palin, on the other hand, resisted democrat demand that they do on a spending spree when oil prices were high, and instead put $7 billion into savings for when oil prices were lower. Gov. Palin also forward funded eduction so when oil prices dropped and she was forced to cut her budget, education was well protected. Palin has also rejected about a third of the so called stimulus because what she rejected had nothing to do with stimulating the economy, just growing government, and saddling the states with unfunded mandates in a couple of years.

As for the joke, who cares, it is only the media making a big deal out of it, no one else. I hope Granholm isn't so delusional that she actually thinks of herself as hot.

rob verdi   March 24th, 2009 5:24 pm ET

SKB   March 24th, 2009 5:23 pm ET

People, get a grip! Why must every single word be scrutinized? If everything everyone says is subjected to this type of tyranny, forward progress is forever hampered! President Obama's appearance on the Tonight Show, for instance, showed his geniality and charisma, while one minor quip foreshadowed everything. Governor Granholm is intellectually charged and has done very well for her state, during especially tumultuous times. Listen, if we spend every second of every day bickering and bantering over a word here or a slip there, when will we ever move forward? Most of you are simply annoying and have poor knowledge of anything substance-related. Loosen up and focus your energy constructively!

It is a waste. Why not work on real news, stuff that matters, keep from turning the news further into the gossip column.

RSB   March 24th, 2009 5:16 pm ET

Why should she apologize? Palin never apologized for anything she said during the campaign. She loves spreading hate as long as it works for her of other Repubs.
And by the way, part of her campaign was to help people with special needs children. What happened to that?

William in Missouri   March 24th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

Oh and I love how people think it is Palin who "can't take the heat". It is not her that is getting upset over this "joke" it is the American, well the ones that have morals, that know this was not a, so called "joke". It was just another way to bash Palin and try to get away with it.
Yeah she may have dished it out in the fall, but that doesn't mean she deserves people cracking "jokes" at her every five minutes. Didn't your mom ever tell you two wrongs don't make it right? You would think that the democrats would have learned from other's mistakes.

All the while, she turns down monies that will benefit Special Needs so she can have political gain. I hope Alaska gets rid of her.

Meltem   March 24th, 2009 4:56 pm ET

I don't think Palin deserves an apology because I think she can take it. It wan't that big of an insult. What I have a problem with are all the ugly, mean comments that are posted. One can have differing opinions and disagree regarding how to get to the same goal but to call people names and say how stupid they are is really unbecoming. Just because one does not expreience any repercussions on the internet for saying anything that comes to your mind does not make it right to do so. When individuals express such horrible things, it makes me dislike the other side even more than I already do. Thanks for galvanizing me.

@J.S. I don't think you read – whatever it is you read – correctly. President Barack Obama will be the principal speaker and the recipient of an honorary doctor of laws degree at the University of Notre Dame’s 164th University Commencement Ceremony at 2 p.m. May 17 – has Sara Palin also been invited to speak?

@Palin 2012 – every independent and democrat really hopes she is the GOP's next pick for a presidential run – we have our fingers crossed.

@K.L – with GOD as your witness do you really believe democrats are the most hypcritical party of the two?

After the slanders of the GOP that have been on going for the past two years and after Palin's "pal around with terrorist (when the man was never convited of being a terrorist by OUR LAWS)" and no apology from anyone in the GOP for any of the lies spread why should an apology even be considered – it was just comedy. U know what they say – comedy is having a laugh at reality.

Maggie   March 24th, 2009 4:51 pm ET

Jennifer Granholm, sometimes jokes border on the ugly side. You really should appolize to Gov Palin. Have you ever felt the blunt of an off handed ugly joke? If not it is not too late you know. Things have a ways of coming back to bite the one who issued the joke.

NO need to say your sorry to Palin, "What" Palin can dish stuff out about others but when some one says something about her even in fun, she expects an apology.........maybe some thinks she is good looking (I don't) but for sure she has no brains.........so good looks might get her somewhere with a bunch of men in a bar, but with no brains she won't get far in the political world......

Ole "Granny" is up set since she didn't get any post under the new administration...she shoujld get one post though..." how to mis-manage a state.

Matthew, Detroit   March 24th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

The worst governor in the entire USA.

Singlehandedly chased, COMERICA BANK, Volkswagen, Pfizer, and

many other companies out of the state.

Trying to raise additional taxes on business. Loves and caters to unions. Can not get toyota, nissan, or anyone else to build a plant in Michigan.

She has had Michigan in a recession for 6 years now. This is THE worst governor.

She should not make jokes about anyone but herself. She is a joke.

Bill   March 24th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

Funny how no one want to judge how smart a governor is by the financial situation of her state. Michigan, like all liberal state is broke. How smart is that?

nicolesuza   March 24th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

Good for you, Granholm. Enough with the apologies ad nauseum, already! Every other quote is a freaking apology these days.

Steve   March 24th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

it was a joke...I am sure even Palin would say no biggie. EVERYONE needs to get a sense of humor.

It was funny because she was trying to tie it to Rendel and let's be honest Granholm is not the hottest governor

Ron L   March 24th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

Now in America WE CAN"T JOKE??
GET A GRIP!! Have we all become a bunch of overly sensitive politcally correct cry-babies!!
THIS IS BECOMING EXTREMELY RIDICULOUS!!

no corporate politics   March 24th, 2009 4:44 pm ET

I think it became clear during the last campaign that making fun of women and older people is "all in good fun" as she says. How about people in wheel chairs? Obama hasn't made the call on that yet....

Mike Jones   March 24th, 2009 4:44 pm ET

Governor Granholm, you were definitely in your element as a stand up comic. You have been kidding Michigan voters ever since you got re-elected (which was unfortunate). During your campaign you kept repeating that we would all be "blown away" with the turnaround Michigan would make if we would put you back in office. You have done little to nothing, and the way you straddled the Mayor of Detroit issue was typical politico. I didn't vote for you, but I still expected better than what you have done. Sarah Palin is a refreshing change of pace that was given the short end of the stick by all the main strream media because she was honest, forthright, wasn't afraid to say what she believed in, and stood behind it. And now, your cohort, (our)President Obama is taking the United States on a journey to financial oblivion.

Gong Show   March 24th, 2009 4:44 pm ET

Sad thing is if this was the other way around, the media would be all like "Palin slings mud" and the dems would be crawling over themselves for an apology.

Worried about the future   March 24th, 2009 4:43 pm ET

Shouldn't she be back at home fixing that disaster of a state she supposedly runs?

Ronald   March 24th, 2009 4:43 pm ET

Another Michigan Democrat lawmaker-what a JOKE!
No wonder that state is in financial distress!
Those rat dems, from the mayors, to the senators, to the governor bankrupt the state via taxes.
Keep voting for dems, you idiots.

p.s. Palin is more qualified as a veep candidate than the unvetted barry h. obama as a pres. candidate, and Palin hotter than this butch looking governor from Meechigan.

Pat   March 24th, 2009 4:43 pm ET

Let's see......

The economy is crumbling....

We have two wars going on....
Some corporate bigwigs just got a 164M payday, courtesy of the taxpayer.....

People are being evicted from rental properties because of defaults on mortgages by their landlords.....

More people are laid off and lose their health benefits every month....

Retirees are reading their investment statements and finding out that they may not be as well off as they thought.....

But our concern today is whether one governor hurt another governor's feelings with a joke at a Gridiron dinner......

Everyone with strong feelings about this joke....inappropriate or not.....needs to get a grip.

Everyone who has an opinion on the "hotness" of governors as opposed to their effectiveness.....needs to get a life.

Brad   March 24th, 2009 4:43 pm ET

Exactly what has the Govenor of Michigan accomplished? She runs a state that has the highest unemplyment in the country, she keeps pushing for still more tax increases and the largest employers are either leaving or on the brink of going under. Quite a resume!

alex erdeljan   March 24th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

For Governor Granholm to claim that she was, "out of her element as a stand-up comedian", flies in the face of her record for the last six years. She made the state of Michigan a national laughing stock!

David   March 24th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

I'm from Michigan and I've never really been too keen of Granholm. However, I must say kudos.

Both because she's not backing down because of hyper-sensitivity and because I hate Palin.

Well done, Granholm.

Congrats to Governor Granholm, for being governor, and being hot.

Merman Hunster   March 24th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Where does the press get off trying to put people on the defensive?

At that dinner, you are supposed to make jokes.

Just because journalists are not front and center, they must thrust themselves in peoples' faces with vacuous questions.

Get a job and get a life and stop spitting in the soup.

Aaron   March 24th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

As for the reference to the "horror" of bringing up Obama's connection to Ayers during the compaign....

Do you HONESTLY think, that if the shoe had been on the other foot, Biden wouldn't have been shouting the same refrain??

SouthernMan   March 24th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

I think Gov. Granholm is a lot hotter than Gov. Palin, so she should know what she is talking about.
Gov. Palin forgot that men are interested in a woman with a brain. (right Honey?)

Legend in my own mind   March 24th, 2009 4:33 pm ET

Holy smokes! People are upset over a joke at the Gridiron Dinner? What next, a retroactive apology from Groucho Marx's estate for his sexist one-liners??

And for you people who blame Granholm for "ruining" Michigan's economy–how about YOU try mopping up the mess left by a three-term Republican governor who decimated the tax structure for the benefit of decrepit, backward-looking rust-belt manufacturers? (Oh, yeah–and do it with a Republican House and Senate for your entire first term.)

Anonymous   March 24th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

you democrates are really a mean bunch of folks. very hypocrital in your condemnation af palin (saying she can't take the heat). you are the same bunch who back obama when he says to leave his family alone. what a double standard.

Anonymous   March 24th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

typical democratic value. refuse to admit bashing and inappropriate comments but quick yell fire when the other side is critical of their chosen.

Rene   March 24th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

Jerry,

Michigan is a "loser state"? Are you serious?
Why is the UAW a bunch of losers?

Talk about issues....

Aaron   March 24th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

There was no mention of Palin ever ASKING for an apology. Just a stupid MI reporter. I'd rather have an apology for the inference that Granholm is one of the "hot Governors" whose cause was set back. Get over yourself Jenny. You win elections here because you're a Democrat not because you are the least bit attractive or even competent. Oh and one more thing.... MOLEY MOLEY MOLEY!!!!!

Melissa   March 24th, 2009 4:31 pm ET

Not that its completely relevant here...but, Palin should never say that she is a victim of sexism. Palin blinked like a childish flirt during the VP debates, and had suggestive body language (rubbing her knee/leg) when meeting with the Prime Minister of Afghanistan when the UN was in session last year. Not to mention that it is not really culturally appropriate to meet a Prime Minister of a Middle Eastern Country while bared-legged.

The woman is not competent. She may be bright, but she is not competent.

The same goes for the Republicans.

Ann C   March 24th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Sarah Palin and the republicans need to get a sense of humor. Old white men and 1 white woman...sort of ditzy white woman at that.

Apologize...okay Sarah it is your turn you told alot of lies on the campaign trail.

Gov Granholm...you go girl!

John   March 24th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

The last time I look it was all of you republicans who are crying. And no, she shouldn't apologize...for what? Besides Sarah is way hotter than Granholm is.

Lexie   March 24th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

What Republican hasn't sought out an apology for one thing or another.

KYLE   March 24th, 2009 4:28 pm ET

Seems like every Republican is demanding and apology from someone. They are so on the offensive. Idiots.

Laverne   March 24th, 2009 4:27 pm ET

Will somebody tell me when the republican party, especially Sarah Palin and her divisiveness will apologize to the American people for trying to divide and destroy our country. If there is an apology to go out, it should be that one!

AJ in Austin Tx   March 24th, 2009 4:26 pm ET

If the roles were reversed, the media would make this an absolute scandal, and would keep repeating the story until Palin apologized.

CindyLouWho   March 24th, 2009 4:25 pm ET

Palin better get ready, especially if she still has plans for 2012. Ha!

serah   March 24th, 2009 4:25 pm ET

I salute Governor of Michigan for who she is and what she has accomplished personally and as a public servant. The lady has smart brains!!!! she was an attorney, that means she had some good college prep for that and only smart ones make it that far, Palin is good looking but her brains need a lot of work she is slow learner, not academically smart like Jennifer. Palin is Young she can take an online degree course to boost herself, she should not just seat back baking cookies and yapping republican slogans. She needs to move a step further, Does she know how many women would want to have an opportunity to continue education but lack funds?? She has the funds she can enroll in online program to advance her academic Rainbow.

simonsays   March 24th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

Lighten up people...it's a joke. Palin is hot. She knows she's hot and I'm sure she took it as a compliment.

Zephyr   March 24th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

I guess I don't have to apologize for MY joke about her new book, "Governor Granholm: The Supermodel Years".

bethi in alaska   March 24th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

Sadly the comment from Granholm is more truth than humor.
Palin gets what she evokes. She alone is responsible for all the jokes, the criticism, and in some cases the intense dislike.
In reality, Palin is a woman with below average intelligence but with a talent for bluffing that exceeds most.
In Alaska we are tired of having a mediocre and immature governor. She seriously needs to go.

Charlie in Maine   March 24th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

She is dead on and has nothing to apologize for. Speaking of apologies though: of course it is none of my business what Republican Governors (hot or otherwise) dicuss. I think that maybe, given the recent seizmic events in Alaska that Bobbie Jindal owes Palin an apology for complaining about volcano watching..... just keep'n it real dog.

Kevin   March 24th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

I feel that this joke is not funny in any sense, but I am definitely not a supporter of Governor Pain, but she should still be respected as a person

Dan, TX   March 24th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

Not an issue I care about enough to comment on. Kind of shocked that so many people want to attack or defend on something so trivial.

But America has become obsessed with trivia and China beats the hell out of us.

cpanioto   March 24th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Hey-where is there anywhere in the story that Palin even heard about the joke, let alone wanted an apology!?? Stop making news out of nothing...private dinner, joke about a rival...THIS IS NOT NEWS..you are creating the illusion of controversy and everyone is falling for it!

Brian   March 24th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Palin set back not only hot governors, but women around the world. She is undereducated to hold a high level position, preaches one thing but does another, has a run-around daughter quite happy that Obama extended the CHIP program so her out of wedlock baby has health care and so many others.

Hot or not, in politics, it's what comes out of your mouth. Palin bruised women in every aspect of public service. This was not a Dem – Rep thing.

Now if we can just get them all to smile once in a while, inject them with a healthy dose of common sense, and get them to see the errors of their ways, they might not be such an abhorrent group of sore winners.

WOW! Point, and subsequent criticism taken!
This liberal agrees: liberals need to have a better sense of humor.

If the right wing could come up with some jokes that didn't depend on racism or sexism, I'd be inclined to laugh.

I also have this crazy theory that if you got a bunch of liberals and conservatives together in the same room, they would maybe laugh at eachother's jokes.

Obama   March 24th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

Palin is one of those that cant take a joke and laugh with it.. she has to cry "FOUL"!!! IF you cant crack jokes about yourself and laugh at those that others crack about you.. then you have some serious issues. For one you have low self esteem... among others. So do we really want someone with Issues like Palin in office?? NO WAY!!

Jared   March 24th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

I can't believe some people actually think of Palin as a 2012 candidate. Actually, I can believe it. They are the same people who voted for Bush. Twice! Ignorance is bliss...

Also, we have become a country of "cupcakes" always whining about an offence–get some back bone America. Especially if Mr. Obama is going to be around for the next 3 years-the fodder for offence will be overwhelming to the faint hearted.

Texas Annie *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*   March 24th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

I'm just sitting here thinking about how Sarah Palin would have handled all this financial crisis situation if she were President.... and the thought actually scares me.

Gary Coleman   March 24th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

Jennifer Granholm wishes she was as hot as Palin. Talk about a winner in a dogfight. Granholm will win hands down!

Michigan Jim   March 24th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

I've voted against Granholm twice now. She's done zero for six years now as my state's economy has tubed. The only good thing is that, by doing nothing, she's also avoided Obama's statist policies and deficits.

Having said that, it was a joke. Also, Palin is much hotter.

Dave in Ohio   March 24th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

She's just a Palin wannabe.

Big Ed   March 24th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Sylvia, you really don't know what you are talking about. Palin can dish it out plenty, but when she gets it back, she is hurt. Look at all the trash she talked during the campaign and she's still a-yappin. And she is still playing the victim.

If she said anything of any redeeming value, it would be different. She is just a paranoid, egotisticall, loudmouthed wanna-be. You betcha!

Texas Annie *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*   March 24th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Sandra Sims   March 24th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

She is right about being out of her element. She can't compare to Palin. She should wish she could compete.

Sue   March 24th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

I believe it was a joke, folks. The only reason someone would take offense at this is because Palin has become a caricature, mostly by her own doing. You noticed how long that idiotic pseudo-documentary about the media trashing Palin stayed in the headlines...about three minutes. Palin is responsible for her family, her decisions, and the storm around her...not the media, not Democrats, who mostly stayed clear of any trashing during the fall, and not Granholm. Palin needs to take care of that group of kids and grandkids, govern Alaska to the best of her ability, and keep her name OUT of the headlines for a while.

Billy, md   March 24th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

My goodness, it was a joke. And a pretty funny one at that. Should she apologize to Rendell, too?

ED FL   March 24th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

The one good thing that can be said about Palin is that she is the most impressive looking person in the GOP. Compared to all the wooses of male GOP'ers she looks like she is the strongest in the party. The male GOP group are the least inspiring group of politicos that have ever been representing the american people. Senod most impressive is probably Bailey Hutchinson.

Greg Smith, Clifton Heights PA   March 24th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

This is what the disgusting members of the Democratic does. Defeat the opposition by getting personal. The Democratic party is going to have a big surprise in the 2010 election when the Republicans take over the House and Senate.

Well, as the PRIMARY economy of Michigan goes down the toilet I don't think she will be too far behind.
Besides, it wasn't a matter of joking...it was a matter of poor taste.
Seems to be the predominate factor of the Dems at the present.
Their day is coming....and sooner than they think.
She and Dodd have much in common....all mouth and no substance!
