(CNN) – Planned Parenthood Federation of America will hold a gala honoring Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Friday in Houston, Texas.

The health care provider announced it will host the awards and dinner ceremony in the Lone Star State to pay tribute to those who have made significant contributions to the advancement of women's reproductive health and rights and promotion of family planning and prevention efforts.

Clinton is set to receive PPFA's highest honor, the Margaret Sanger award, for her advocacy of "women's health and rights throughout her public service career."

"Ugly Betty" actress America Ferrera will co-host the event along with PPFA President Cecile Richards.

Hillary as Secretary of State is the strongest message that abortion should have been legalized decades ago. Maybe then things would be different today....

WAY TO GO HILLARY! AND HATS OFF TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD!

so well deserved...such a brave woman who inspires so many girls and women, and takes action where others fear to tread.

Please dont let the anti-choice hatemongers get you down. Jesus got crucified by his own people. Its the way of humans to crap on their future heros.

And you angry women who cant stand the thought of a woman having some choice over what happens to her body after crimes and/or mistakes are made, please use some compassion. Your angry venomous rants contain no compassion for the people you speak of. You speak of the quality of the unborn childs life with complete disregard for the quality of the life of girls who grow to be women in a world where procreating is not always by choice, nor necessity. Life is complicated with no simple answers.

Something tells me the same people who use the 'all life is sacred' position don't carry it through to war or animal welfare. Kill the enemy, kill the cow, rape the women...just don't dare prevent an embryo from coming to fruition regardless of the needs and traumas of its primary caregiver. Life is complicated. Stop spreading hate just because you can't stomach tough choices made by brave women in unfortunate circumstances. No woman I have ever met WANTED to have an abortion... it's about choice. We should be able to choose what's best for ourselves.

Would you want to be forced to carry a child to term by force of the law? No matter what the circumstances were? Would you want a 14 year old to be forced to? would you want to be that child? No one is asking you to have one...just have some compassion for those who do.

    Compassion please.

    And thank you Margaret Sanger.

Lesson to the uneducated (mostly southerners): Embryos are not people, they are embryos. Stick your archaic religion where the sun doesn't shine. You see, in reality we use scientific method to understand the world and not some draconian book of fiction to tell us how the world is.

Worry not fellow intellectuals, The far right will burn in 'hell' for being the bigots they are. At least thats what their religion tells them.

hmmm, the planned parenthood people I know, do NOT just abort babies, they dont abort babies at all ! what they do DO, is counsel you on your choices, and if you want to keep your baby, they work with you on health issues etc, and if you dont want to keep your baby, they also counsel you on your options, which also include adopting the child out..too many of you dont even know what planned parenthodd really is or does !!!

    Uhhhhh you are terribly MISINFORMED!

The Planned Parenthood in Houston off of Fannin Street, performs abortions EVERYDAY. How can we demand equal rights, social justices, if we allow the snuffing out of the most basic and vulnerable in our society? Like I said, many of us were UNPLANNED!! Think about that!

I knew this story would bring out the misogynists. There they are-bashing away on a leader that happens to be a woman, and a healthcare provider that happens to advocate for women’s issues, even if SOME of those issues are controversial. But do they provide something better for women?
Yeah, I’m sure they try. It’s called church. And the church has historically been soooooooo wonderful toward women…

    Patrick Peavy Dallas,TX-
America's largest baby killing service isn't Planned Parenthood.

    That honor goes to religion.

@ Regular People, who said "a healthcare provider that happens to advocate for women’s issues"

Now now, let's be clear about something: healthy, informed, educated reproductive decisions are not JUST a female issue. Planned Parenthood doesn't just deal with abortion (or course, the fundies would have us believe all they do all day is sit around eating aborted fetuses). They provide education services, reproductive counseling, etc., to both women AND MEN. The unfortunate fact is, men tend to be less responsible about seeking that kind of information and counseling.

Now this is something to be proud of, Hillary...

Kind of like lawyers giving a physician the "malpractice of the year" award.

    @ Patrick...

Naturally, if you take anything that will eventually be what an "intellectual" calls life out of the environment in which it needs to be nurtured, it cannot survive.

No different when one thins out plants in the garden. Take them out of the soil, and they will die.

And no, Patrick. I'm not a Southerner. I'm a physician in New England.

Please stay out of my Houston, TX, Madame Sec.

    Mike: A-MEN!!!!!

I cannot and have never liked this woman. She and her husband are nothing but heathern trouble makers. All they did for country was run it into the ground. They have helped big time make this country a heathern country. I have said it once and I'll say it again, so many of you say the way the country is in is Bush's fault, man you really need to go back and see what Bush had to walk into when he became president. Was he a good prez, no but there really has not been a good one since George Washington. Yep, gotta go that far back. Wait a minute, I forgot about Abe Lincoln, knew him well!!!!

    Paula March 25th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Thank Goodness for Hillary!! Until now, the men certainly weren't concerned about women's health and reproductive issues!
If I am raped, Planned Parenthood will ensure I don't have to have a baby as a result. Glad my daughter won't either. Enough with the religious crap that has taken over our country.
    ______________________________________________________
You know what, my first name is Paula also. So let me understand this, if you get raped and you get pregnant, then that BABY inside you is nothing. It can be killed because it was caused by rape? Wow, I work with a yong lady that was raped and she got pregnant and she kept her baby because she felt it was the best thing to do and now she says that baby is the best thing that ever happened to her. Even if it wasn't, she still would not have because she knew it was a BABY inside her and she would have given it up for adoption. We call it abortion, God calls it murder!!!

What about all the lowlifes in prsion that have murdered people and even though they have been convicted they are still alive. At least they had a chance to live life, aborted BABIES do not even have a chance.
