Limbaugh's ratings spike amid Dem attacks

Limbaugh's ratings are on the rise.
Limbaugh's ratings are on the rise.

(CNN) – A conservative media watchdog group says recent Democratic attacks on Rush Limbaugh may have given a big boost to the talk radio host's ratings.

According to the Media Research Center, stations that carry Limbaugh's day time talk show experienced a "dramatic surge" of listeners in February - the month when congressional Democrats and even President Obama publicly took swipes at the conservative talker.

"President Obama declared war on Rush Limbaugh and his ratings went through the roof," said Media Research Center's Brent Bozell. "If that's not a magnificent backfire, I'm not sure what is."

Democrats have been eager to paint the divisive Limbaugh as the de facto Republican leader, especially after the radio host's controversial statement that he hoped the president's economic policies would fail.

Obama himself warned congressional Democrats in late January that they need to "can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done."

Limbaugh's ratings soar? You're telling me that people who don't listen to this sensationalist commentator are now tuning in? President Obama said something that the the rest of the country doesn't already know about this non-entity? Isn't the reason why the Republicans are where they are because of Bush and his biggest supporter? And let's be clear about his audience, not only do they firmly believe they have every answer, every other solution merits no consideration. Well, guess what, we did it your way and the nation is in shambles, financially, environmentally, educationally, etc. I could go on and on. You're paying the price for your greed, selfishness, ridicule and shortsightedness. People see you for who you are and it's distasteful to honest conservatives who have played by the rules and now are wondering where all their hard work went. Of course, the party needs to change some of their perspectives or they will go the way of every other political dinosaur. Let's see if the know the definition of the following word: modify

The point was for his ratings to rise. The DNC painted him as their leader, remember? They want people need to hear the garbage he is spewing because it makes the GOP look bad.

I tuned into Limbaugh out of curosity and it only took a few minutes for "The Gift from God" and his arrogance to make me want to vomit. I don't know how one person can think so highly of himself. He is arrogant, egotistical and self absorbed. One time was enough for me and I don't think there is anyone in Hollywood who thinks as highly of themselves as he seem to think of himself.

I read recently that he has been divorced 2 or 3 times and has been dating a girl in her early 30's for quite some time. Believe he is in his late 50's. Sounds like a normal Christan Conservative and member of the Moral Majority to me.

The only people who gives a hoot about Limbaugh are those who tune in to show. President Obama does not have to stoop to conquer!!!

I think people are listening to Rush to see what the real republicans are supposed to think. Love to hear the hard line repubs apologize to Rush for speaking out of turn.

When my ancesters came to this country, before the revoloution there was no Welfare State. They had to accomplish things by the sweat of their brow. However today most think we need the Welfare State as the last vote indicated.

If yor need the Welfare State Rush is not for you. However if you can be sucessful on your own then that is what Rush is saying. So which is it. Do you need the Nanny State?

I don't believe that to be true. I know there are innocently ignorant fellow Americans out there but not that many.

I think Media Research Center's Brent Bozell is as evil as Rush and is just making it up.... He knows no one has the time to actually do the research to prove he is lying.

No matter what Rush Limbaugh says, it is making millions for the fat boy and is laughing all the way to the bank. It is not that he cares about American policies or the people. People like Rush Lambaugh and Ann Coulter are the opposite of the TV evangelists no matter what side you are on, they know how to squeeze the blood of the turnip. I work too hard for my money to waste it on these radicals. I put my money to better use. To pay my bills.

And so you see the real Rush. The man who just wants to be famous and wealthy by riling people up and drawing attention to himself.

Now that we have all the intolerant fundamentalists in one place, can we deport them?

Rush is a money making man who laughs all the way to the bank. Dems should ignore him. Without an audience to play to , his numbers may receed somewhat. There will always be an audience for the hate filled commentary he offers. That just seems the American way. Divide and conquer an old and true statement the GOP and Rush live by. He is a man of little virtue thrice married and vulgar but the right wing Christian folk love em. Go figure.

This is great for the Democrats! Now more people will hear what a nut Rush is! The Democrats want Rush to keep doing his bit. It's killing the Republican party.

I think that Obama et al bit off more than they could chew going after Rush. After all the truth wins out over politics and politicians every single time.

If Rush is the leader of the GOP then thank God! He's right and the Republican party needs to get back to its fundamentals.

GO RUSH!! YOU ARE THE MAN!!!

What would you expect the "Media Research Center" to say? These so called "conservative" watchdog or attack dog groups will publish anything to further the cause of the ultra neo-con sector of the republican party. Truth never seems to enter into the equation with these groups.

I sure hope Rush popularity continue all the way through the next two national election cycles. The more he is exposed to the public, the easier it will; be for the democratic party to raise even higher.

"President Obama declared war on Rush Limbaugh and his ratings went through the roof,"

So did Obama's – his approval ratings have remained high. I'd call this a win for Obama. Rushs dimwitted hater fan base will never be enough to turn an election.

Not sure why there is such negativity towards Rush. Yes he can be dramatic, but has anyone ever examined the fact that he may be right about some things? I can not believe this country is just sitting back and letting our government spend until we are broke! When you are tight on money at home, do you spend more to get more money??? The liberal spending-spree, and the support for it, makes absolutely no common sense. What happened to everyday common sense in this country??? I am only in my 20s but even I know that its a very backwards way of thinking...

did they poll these new listeners to see if they were curious about the great and fast Rush, like maybe the same people watching car chases or a trainwreck.

It's just morbid curiosity Rush, don't get to excited.

The irony in this is that Rush Limbaugh will walk into his broadcast room, seat himself behind the microphone and proceed to make more money than he has ever made before in his lifetime, and will be doing it under a Democratic regime led by the man whose plans he hopes will fail. It isn't just Rush that is rich.

They the democrats and george sorsoe (however you spell his name) are going after the non-liberal talk show, they now are picking on former CNN Glenn Beck-i starting listening to Glen probably about 3-1/2 yrs ago, he is a guy who just wants honesty and if all you name callers (liberals) would just take the time to listen to what some of these people say you might think differently and see where this country is headed-to SOCIALISM and what comes after Socialism is Communism, i work with a girl from Russia and she is scared to death about what is going on in this country. Obama doesn't know what he is doing and i will give him credit for knowing how to convince people that he does and get them to think he is all that. talk is cheap i want to see the walk and so far he has triple the defiect compare to what Bush has done and you can't blame all the spending he is doing on Bush people even though i see it in the comments. i just can believe on how stupid Americans really are. Or they just want a hand out and have the government telling them every move to make.

Just means there are more idiots in this country than what we originally thought. After all, they have nothing better to do than listen to a drug addict/criminal spout nonsense on the radio. Not really a shock.
