Limbaugh's ratings spike amid Dem attacks

Limbaugh's ratings are on the rise.
Limbaugh's ratings are on the rise.

(CNN) – A conservative media watchdog group says recent Democratic attacks on Rush Limbaugh may have given a big boost to the talk radio host's ratings.

According to the Media Research Center, stations that carry Limbaugh's day time talk show experienced a "dramatic surge" of listeners in February - the month when congressional Democrats and even President Obama publicly took swipes at the conservative talker.

"President Obama declared war on Rush Limbaugh and his ratings went through the roof," said Media Research Center's Brent Bozell. "If that's not a magnificent backfire, I'm not sure what is."

Democrats have been eager to paint the divisive Limbaugh as the de facto Republican leader, especially after the radio host's controversial statement that he hoped the president's economic policies would fail.

Obama himself warned congressional Democrats in late January that they need to "can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done."

Good for Rush. Free speech is alive and well in America. You don't have to like what Rush has to say, but he has the right to speak out and people can choose to either tune in or tune out.

Hey, mission accomplished. I'd wanna hear what all the fuss was about myself if I hadn't already heard him before.

That is because Obama and the DNC legitimized Rush's arguements by responding to him on an almost daily basis. If I was Rush, I would keep attacking the President's policies, because clearly it gets under thier skin enough to where they respond, which in turn causes higher ratings for Rush. Smart move on Rush's part, whether you like him or not.

That's only because most of his "drive-bys" listen to him in order to blog about how nonsensical he is using his arguments word-for-word against him. His views are only hurting himself, yet he persists.

Good for Rush bu who cares. We know there are folks who support Rush but the good thing is there are more hopful, independent thinking Americans who won't buy into him one-sides conservative spin.

Isn't the Republican Party is guys who where calling the Democrats a bunch of whinny victims not to long ago.

Looks like they want a turn on the victim bandwagon, and as long as morons like Limp-baugh are calling the shots they will continue to look like kool-aide drinkning lemmings – LOL

WHOOPS! Now more people are listening to Rush and actually get to hear his statements used in proper context instead of only getting the media's cherry picked distortions. Maybe this is why the DNC is trying to move on to Karl Rove as the boogeyman for their new ads. They wore out Bush, they wiffed with Rush, now they are going back in time again to get Rove (when most libs don't even know who he is or what he's even done, just that he's big evil Rove). How much longer until the DNC runs new ads against Nixon?

    Again....typical nonsensical spin.

The REAL reason that Limbaugh's ratings went up is because the garbage he spews day in-day-out acts as carthasis for Obama haters. As long as Obama is president, Fox 5 and Limbaugh's ratings will be up. The media is just plain obsessed with Obama for better or worse. Has nothing to do with democratic attacks.

There are so many people suffering in the US. Giving ears to Rush Limbaugh is a waste of time. I cannot explain how the media is giving any attention to Mr. Limbaugh. We should all be working together. We are on this ship thanks to Mr. Bush's administration NOT Obama's.

Rush rocks! Obama made a serious tactical mistake in even acknowledging that Rush exists, proving that he is NOT the smartest man in the room. If he were all that smart, he would have learned from Bill Clinton who made the exact same mistake.

I’m not sure why CNN keeps bringing up the Limbaugh story and the Octuplet mom story every other day. Some stories just won’t go away.

The pencil necked geeks that read and then make profound comments on what the daily views/listens data is saying are soooo off the mark.
These marketing chumps just don't get it – If more people are tuning into Rushblow it is because they want some belly laughs at the expense of the village idiot not because they want the "truth" of the hate-filled rants of this wacko's "political analysis"...

The "conservative media watchdog group" is the operative phrase in this article. I remain skeptical. Show me the Arbitron ratings he uses to charge for his advertising rates. If those have gone up, then I'll be convinced.

The one thing I'm certain of, however, is that the collective IQ of Limbaugh's audience remains somewhere around borderline "persistent vegetative state", even if there are increasing numbers listening to him.

I would really like to see details of who his audience is. I for one don't have 3 hours during the day to listen to that buffoon and everyone I know works and can't either. I hope he is the defacto leader of the Republicans. Here's something to think about: Rush Limbaugh is paid $40 million a year to convince people living in single wide trailers that the rich are paying too much in taxes!

I don't think that Rush's ratings being up is a surprise. If the GOP had won, what would people like Rush and Sean and Newt have to be "angry" about?

deep down, all the neo-con talk hosts are tickled to have a "target" to shoot at.

It sure beats the "love affair" that we would be watching on Fox news every time McCain or Palin would go on the shows.

Rush's ratings increase only shows how divided this country still is and how much "HATE' is still being spouted. Now please don't badger me as that imaginary "liberal left". I am a moderate who gets sick of any radical view.

Rush....keep it up......the Dems win in a landslide in 2012 with you as a mouthpiece. Wow!!!!.....ratings increase for a doped up hypocrtic adulterer.
