WASHINGTON (CNN) – Another Republican has officially jumped into the race to challenge Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd in 2010.
State Sen. Sam Caligiuri is the second Republican to officially announce a bid to run against the embattled Dodd, who has come under fire over his admission that he added a loophole into the stimulus package that allowed AIG and other companies that received bailout money to pay millions of dollars in bonuses to their employees.
"I am running to take us into the future and away from what Washington has come to represent: career politicians in power for so long, and with so little accountability, that they feel they can do – or fail to do – anything they want and still get elected," Caliguiri said in a statement released Tuesday. "Regardless of who my opponent may be, I am committed to changing Washington in ways that career politicians are simply unable to do."
Former Rep. Rob Simmons, a Republican, announced his decision to run for the Senate earlier this month. As of now, Dodd does not have any official Democratic challengers.
Recent polling shows that the incumbent may be in for a tough fight. The latest Quinnipiac University poll released March 10 shows Simmons getting 43 percent of the vote, with Dodd at 42 percent. According to the same poll, Dodd would beat Caliguiri 47 percent to 34 percent.
He's just another GOP sideshow phony. Majority of those lifelong senators are republicans. ie: JOHN MCCAIN
Time to get rid of this corrupt criminal Dodd once and for all. He, along with Barney Frank, are the architects of the mess we are in.
Haven't you republicans ruined our country enough! Please, give us atleast 30 years before any of you run again!!!
"I'm running to take us into the future and away from what Washington
has come to represent"
Are you serious? this clown is just another politician that want to get elected and hang out with that old tired GOP group and complain. If he thinks he can come into Washington and make this change, good luck the GOP are a bunch of old whinning men who have no life other than to make ours miserable. What a joke!!!!!
Chris Dodd is one of the faces of this financial implosion. Surely the voters of Connecticut will vote him out.
3 Republicans, but NO Democrat and their party is in control now??? What's up with that??
Thats what they all say. Simmon's goals are to become a career congressman. No more than a sound bite...especially from a republican.
Dodd is in great jeopardy of losing his seat! He lied to reporters about not knowing who put the clause in the legislation that would payout bonuses to AIG Execs, then recanted the next day during an interview with Wolf Blitzer in the Situation Room – adding, he placed the clause in there with the urging of Obama's treasury officials. He is also in trouble because he was a huge recipient of AIG funding last year, a nice $103,000 in donations for his failed presidential campaign.
This people like dodd have no conscience at all! He has cheated the American people right and left and turns right around and announces he will run for office again! What is really sad is thru voters not keeping informed and with acorns help he will probably get re-elected. What happened to the rules of impeachment. You would have thought if he had a soul at all he would have at least had the decency to not run again.
well, the repubs have a long list of criminals to choose from.......
To Dutch/Bad – dodd is a demmie not a republican and that is exactly what I meant in my previous post – too many voters are very much uneducated about the government and the crooks that run/ruin it.
To Rick – they will probably re-elect him. They don't even know if he is a demmie or a republican.
Know the story before you make a comment. Dodd is not the bad...
The REP., and the media want you to think he is....
You people! Read the above article – dodd is a d-e-m-o-c-r-a-t! Sam Caligiuri is the Republican but go ahead and think what you want vote for Sam. This is how we got such a corrupt government in the first place the voters are extremely uneducated.
I cannot imagine Connecticut voters would ever reelect this liar, but stranger things have happened. Dodd is a DISGRACE!
Even I once supported for Chris Dodd, nowadays, I've not found any honesty and integrity from Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd who received dirty money $200,000 from AIG and here and there. It's time for him to step down in 2010.
GO Sen. Sam Caligiuri /2010
as bad as democraps are..............this guy makes even them look good.......turn out the light Chris........time to go
ABD.
Anyone but Dodd.
Phil Gramm and John McCain provided the tools for Bush, and he led us to the edge of economic ruin. We really do not need more republicans in the Senate.
all repugs are evil and the people know it we will not vote for the GOP ever again.ever!!!
Come on Dems you have to know the Dodd is a big reason that we are in this mess. Man up its ok admit that.
all repugs are evil and the people know it we will not vote for the GOP ever again.ever!!! Dodd will not lose The GOPers are more evil then anything. Down with the Gop.
Libs are just stupid enough to re-elect Dodd. Remember what Rush says, "Voting Democrat? Your stuck on stupid!".
annie – Palin 2012 – where was your rabid hate when bush bankrupted this c ountry? Lied to us about a war? Stripped our civil rights? And btw we (us proud liberal democrats) know one thing for sure, bush was a rethuglican.
@ bj, Texas.......... SO.......... When Limbaugh calls the Americans that voted for Obama (54.6% of us) stupid, does he realize that he is insulting us? And that we will remember that the leader of the GOP called us stupid?
And GOP thinks it can win Americans vote in 2010 or 2012??
Funny.
