In a new blog post, Meghan McCain discusses Rep. Aaron Schock.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - At 27 years old, Illinois Republican Rep. Aaron Schock is the youngest member of Congress. He's also possessed of washboard abs and has, as of late, become a favorite target of celebrity gossip outlet TMZ. And the daughter of the last Republican presidential candidate thinks he might just be the answer to the GOP's troubles.

"The first time I ever heard of Congressman Aaron Schock, I was hanging out with some friends during a girls' night in, and one of my friends yelled to me from the other room: 'Meghan, there's a congressman on TMZ,'" Meghan McCain writes Tuesday in her latest blog post for the Daily Beast. "To which I answered: 'Twenty bucks he's a Democrat.' Well, I was wrong."

"...At the end of the day, Congressman Schock is only three years older than me. Which means he can relay a message in ways my father never could," she says.

TMZ is owned by Time Warner, which is also the parent company of CNN.

McCain gives Schock high marks for reaching out to demographic groups that do not traditionally vote Republican, for his calls for greater ideological flexibility, and his decision to avoid negative campaign ads.

"As someone who has been personally attacked when I invited political discourse, I firmly believe that talking about our differences - instead of mudslinging - can only bring people closer to the Republican Party and force them to take a second look at their candidates," she writes, referring to recent public spats with conservative commentators Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter.

McCain says the "congressman-turned-TMZ-hottie" may be the cure for what ails the GOP: "If nothing else, in an Obama-crazed land, he is getting people's attention and putting another fresh face at the center of what it is too often perceived as an old-news, boring party."

Thank God we have someone running this country who is brilliant, articulate and handsome. Not like this vapid gigolo.

Ronald Lister   March 31st, 2009 1:44 pm ET

This Schock idiot actually seriously proposed giving nuclear weapons to Taiwan in order to blackmail the Chinese into agreeing with our foreign policy aims in the Middle East. He also proposes using Congressional money to aid "freedom fighting" groups in Iran and elsewhere. (Remember Oliver North, anyone?) TMZ is no cultural ambassador to be sure, but I love how closely they follow him. At this rate, he is bound to say or do something stupid enough to ruin his career...and they will be right there to capture it.

At Last   March 31st, 2009 1:44 pm ET

First they had Palin as the GOP female stand-in for Hillary, then Steele appeared as the GOP black stand-in for Obama – when will they figure out that these cardboard dolls aren't working. I'm from the left but even we know that we need a healthy balance between the two wings to fly without falling over and we aren't getting it.

gl, Pittsburgh   March 31st, 2009 1:44 pm ET

He's cute, but he is not the answer to the Republicans problems. He will find himself and some type of trouble becasue he is too young to say away from trouble – like women who would love to destroy him. He is too young to know what women to stay away from.

joeb   March 31st, 2009 1:44 pm ET

Just what we need; Palin Schock.

Richard L   March 31st, 2009 1:41 pm ET

The Republican Party, delivering more gimmicks. It shows what they think of the dignity and intelligence of the American people.

They figured we voted for Obama because he was a minority and a new face: Enter Sarah Palin. They thought we liked him because he was a black guy. Enter: Michael Steele. They thought it's just the extreme left against the extreme right: Enter: Rush. They think we just want cool hip people who get our attention: Enter this guy.

They never think we actually look at the people who can help us to get more of what we want. Affordable health care, better standard of living, hope for the environment and our children's future, excellent and affordable education, decent pay for the work we do, dignity, a better quality of life.

Nope, we just want gimmicks that look good. Wrong!

Steven   March 31st, 2009 1:37 pm ET

Republicans are so out of style, it doesn't matter how good looking they are. We already tried having a president everybody wanted to have a beer with, and look where that got us. Give me a break.

His body may be young, but his mind is old and weak.

The future of the Republican party is bright despite the claims of the liberial elite.

If you are waiting for your government to take care of you- instead of taking care of yourself- then you really need to take a personal inventory of your life and choices.
Pesonal responsibility is the Republican way and the American way.

Vern   March 31st, 2009 1:29 pm ET

It's well known and accepted around his district that Aaron is gay. TMZ is setting him up for a fall. They've been slowly introducing Aaron to the mainstream over the past couple of months to build interest and hype. They either already have something on him already or know that a scandal is coming soon. That's their game.

Indeed. If a Democrat was spewing some of the ideological dribble this kid spews, he'd be booted from the party for being a Republican.

OK, so clearly the GOP memebers have nothing to do.

Looking for Mr. Right   March 31st, 2009 1:20 pm ET

The GOP just wanders from person to [person – looking for a quick fix for the failures of their ideas ... first it was Palin – ya bettcha! The the great white hope was Bobby from New Orleans with the backing Michael Steele – who also disappoints ... now its the new guy with killer abs!

Haven't heard any great GOP ideas yet ... other than a 19 page budget with no specifics and no numbers ... its going to take a lot of real substance to really be a "a fresh view of the NEW REPUBLICAN party" ...
will he even be allowed an independent (non-base-kissing) thought?

EBC, Boyds MD   March 31st, 2009 1:20 pm ET

moderate_conservative   March 31st, 2009 1:20 pm ET

People are reading way too much into this. M McCain simply pointed out that this young congressman "breaks the mold" for typical members of the GOP and has the potential to communicate to an audience that has been missed in years past. Period.

Schock didn't seek out TMZ, they sought him out. And now we're here discussing a congressman that I didn't even know existed 15min ago.

Congressman Schock will have to prove himself overtime to see if he has what it takes to truly serve this country and possibly be a voice that Americans can relate to and support. There are a lot of voices in politics right now, but I'm still waiting for a voice that speaks my values.

Just because Schock has six-pack abs doesn't qualify him for leadership, but it doesn't disqualify him either. Would you rather our congressman have beer belly guts with zero discipline to do a situp?

andyoo   March 31st, 2009 1:19 pm ET

he is young , so what? congressman can't look good?
you guys complaining about republician just because one of their member is young should be ashame of yourself.
is that reverse age discriminiation?
yes, he come out to run, but it's the american people of that great state that voted for him.
so if you want to blame, blame americans, not republicians.

Meaghan, the PROBLEM is that the message doesn't fit America today.

That is something that you need to figure out as you take your political journey.

There is nothing special about the Republican message. It is antiquated.

Trickle down didn't work for Reagan and it won't work for the next Republican.

Join America, girl! We are hopeful that new policies will include EVERYONE, not just the filthy rich who got there on MY BACK!

@Liberals are retarded March 31st, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Looks are what got NObama elected. No reason it shouldn't be a 2 way street.

And by the way, Meghan McCain is a bigger HACK than her father. She is NOT A REPUBLICAN, she is a tool that the lib media uses to try to make the republican party look bad. She's an idiot.

Really !so it's the media that has been making the republican party look bad? Funny, I though it was their performance over the last 8 years and their choice to have McCain and Palin as their nominees.

You're right though, she can't be a real republican, because the party doesn't allow for any diversity. Your either agree with what Rush say...or you're not a real republican.

Palin was considered to be very attractive. It really did nothing for her politically once she opened her mouth. I'd have to hear what he stands for first, and if he feels it is OK to manipulate the constitution to deny rights of American citizens. A pretty cover doesn't guarantee the contents are relevant.

Democrats .... don't get cocky or complacent.

Right now, the GOP is lost in the wilderness devoid of ideas, intellect, charisma and leadership. It is where it is because they are disconnected from everyday common sense thinking. They are TOO MUCH Spin.

Dems, if you commit towards working to being more in-tuned with American public than the Republicans you can forever exhile them to political irrelevancy.

Don't give the upper hand away.

Dave in Illinois   March 31st, 2009 12:56 pm ET

And in between sips of his frooty poolside drink and having the large-breasted woman he paid to be in the photo op rub oil on his back, he leaned over to an unnaturally orange John Boehner and suggested we sell nukes to Taiwan to mess with China. "Brilliant!" said Boehner, then wrote himself a note to drown the poor fool in the hot tub later before he got the GOP in even more trouble than it already is in.

John, Brooklyn, New York   March 31st, 2009 12:53 pm ET

I am Schocked that Meagan would stoop so low as to praise vanity over substance. Meagan has lost all my respect. Are we going to select our public officials based on looks alone now? What a disgrace.

Bob   March 31st, 2009 12:49 pm ET

I am a confirmed Democrat that voted for Obama and would again. But, I also believe in a strong two party system of government. The problem with the GOP is that the old guard remains in control. Their conviction is that their "package" is the right one for the country and they need to educate the country. Young folks like this fellow and McCain realize that the party has to change to survive. To do this, the GOP has to listen to the groups that do not historically vote for it and then fashion their ideas and actions to what these groups want. Otherwise, the Republicans will continue to lose elections and the Democrats will remain (and grow) in control of the Congress and the Presidency.

Waiting for the postpartisan era   March 31st, 2009 12:48 pm ET

Jacksonville   March 31st, 2009 12:42 pm ET

Okay, it's seems to me that the Republican just want excitement within their party and not someone who could lead them to become a better party than they are. Maybe this guy excites Megan (she did say it was hard for her to get a man or date) so maybe it's about her. And let the truth be told; I will never vote for a guy as young as he is, just because I think he's cute to lead any party or even have a chance in hell to be President. Maybe later years to come but President Obama will definitely do two terms. We democrats, independences and even some republicans will make sure of that. Just as before....this will be a repeat of the best administration; weve had in years (at least 8)

Obama 2012

Baby McCain is becoming an advocate for change in the Pub's party...good for her.
I personally know many young, hip, Republicans who are concerned for the common good...yet hold the values of less government the better. There are lots of us out there....of course not all have great abs like this hunk.

Jerry   March 31st, 2009 12:39 pm ET

Cindy McCain's first cynical reaction, "To which I answered: 'Twenty bucks he's a Democrat.", tells you all you need to know about the hypocrisy of those that trade in political tribalism.

Her initial reaction was to criticize the political celebrity of the Democrats, but the second she realized it was a fellow Republican, the tune changed.

True non-partisanship will never happen while this attitude pervades.

Barry   March 31st, 2009 12:38 pm ET

Washboard abs? Tells me two things. One, he spends too much time on himself and not the country. Two, he's as qualified for higher office as Palin with her moose-skinning talents.

AP in Illinois   March 31st, 2009 12:38 pm ET

Politics is all about perception. The current perceptions by a majority of Americans of the Republican Party:

1) No ideas to solve the problems of the day
2) Sore losers. Still can't get over losing the election.
3) Disingenuous. Making up issues that don't really contribute to solving issues.
4) Uncompromising and inflexible. My way or the highway attitude.
5) Behind the times. Still promoting less government as the cure all.
6) Hypocritical. Listen to Rush. He accuses people of things he has does on a regular basis.
7) Shrill. GOP doesn't seem interested in discussion. Only talking at people.
8) Dishonest. All of the above tactics add up to not wanting to be an honest good faith player to govern as the minority party.
9) Blaming others. The GOP needs to take responsibility for their actions and words. Stop using minorities and the press as a crutch.

These are all perceptions that need to be addressed. And the Rush Limbaugh's and Anne Coulter's of the party are not doing anything to try to changes that perception.

I like Meghan McCain and much to the chargin of the Conservatives I think that she could start a renaissance of the Republican party. But I don't think that promoting the celebrity hunk image is a way to go to achieve that end. People are losing their houses and jobs and the road to success is via a young guy with nice abs?

Obama didn't win because of his looks. He won because he has shown that he has good ideas, is basically honest and can communicate with the American people. All that has been lacking for about 8 years.

HIllDem   March 31st, 2009 12:37 pm ET

Everytime Ms Mccain opens her mouth, I lose enormous respect for Columbia University's undergraduate college.

So a fresh face - Congressman 6-Pack – can take stale GOP talking points and sell them to clueless valley girls - is that the point we learn from this blabber?

What is his stance on reproductive rights/freedoms? his philosophy concerning supreme court nominations? his position on gay marriage/civil unions? civil rights stance? postion on Iraq?

The GOP already had a pretty face: Dan Quale. And then they had sexy Sarah. People are no longer buying the brand, no matter how pretty the package....

Just just throwing out lies and the other republicancrap. Maybe one day something will stick.

I believe the voters (democrats, independents and moderate republicans)of the United States elected the president by over 10 million votes over the lesser of the two candidates.

Clay   March 31st, 2009 12:35 pm ET

It would make sense The republicans have no substance, no platform and no agenda other than destroying our country, so they might just as well pick a male bimbo to represent them. They picked a female one last time and we all saw how that worked out for them. It would probably sell well in the red states which read more internet porn than news. And just when I thought they'd sunk to an insurmountable low, they top it with this one. Kinda takes your breath away.

It seems that of late all that matters in the Republican party is how the candidate looks to the American people. Forget any kind of substance. i.e. Sarah Palin.

What makes me cringe is that people like the McCain's are so loyal to party, that they can't even see past the destruction the Republicans have caused.

Village   March 31st, 2009 12:31 pm ET

Republicans just don't get it. Obama's not popular because of what he looks like; he's popular for his policies.

Do you really thing Cheney's numbers would be any different if he didn't look like walking death?

On second thought, yes Republicans, there is a cutie pie politician out there for you, and I think you should spend a great deal of time looking for him, or her.

Oaktown   March 31st, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Meghan McCain likes his washboard abs....he's young...and that translates (to her) into the future of the Republican Party. The upside to all of this is that this sort of mindset is what will keep the dems in power for a long time. Republicians don't govern and don't have any ideas except how to be the disloyal opposition.

CNN has published no less than three articles on Aaron Schock, and they have all been about his looks.

Before your organization annoints him the new "hot" Republican, can you please do some journalism and publish his beliefs and policies?

I realize that on the internet all this information is at my finger tips, but CNN is also one of the most respected news agencies in the world. I expect them to report the news and items related to it.

Carrie   March 31st, 2009 12:28 pm ET

Why is it republicans think they can cover up ugly with beauty.

They need a whole different attitude , dump the Limbaughs , Hannitys and Coulters as the leaders of policy and GOP "values" Real values are not hate filled and judgmental as these people are .

True beauty comes from within. As my father use to say "beauty is only skin deep but ugly goes all the way to the bone"!

Let us hope this handsome young man is a new breed of Republican!
Maybe his beauty will come from inside and out and be an all inclusive poltician other than just out for himself and their outdated views.

Justin Carlin   March 31st, 2009 12:27 pm ET

I'm sorry, but if this brilliant person (McCain) believes that the GOP's answer is some guy in a bathing suit (notice the sarcasm here)....well, I hope the rest of America doesn't believe her. That would just lead me to think I'm a complete moron.

A politician isn't made because he or she has a great body. If that's what you believe, get the hell out of here. I'm sick of these people plaguing my country.

Oh, and if Meghan is reading this, you're an idiot. Go back to school.

If you are a decent person who has integrity, morals, values, respect, and a desire to be fair to all Americans then you are an enemy to liberal Democrats. Just read the hate here at the ticker, I mean is there any doubt that these drone libs programmed by the leftist media feel no remorse for personal attacks, lies, and rabid foaming at the mouth hatrid?

The lib cannot debate the facts, so they lie. They cannot hold a candle to the right's morals and values, so they distort and attack. It comes all together when you compare the way people in blue areas treat people and act compared to the kind, compassionate, respectful red areas. It is time for decent Americans to question the lib hateful rhetoric and just go by the truth and facts.

Too many gimmicks coming from the republicans. I respect Mehgan but this guy is just another gimmick, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt years ago but this time around after all the pathetic gimmicks the rethugs have made, it's hard to take anything seriously from their party anymore and I honestly with another party would replace them. I am fine with a 2 party system just not the party of no and not the party that drove us this far into the ground and still hasn't learned from their mistake's.

Sure, take advantage of the young and unknowing by bringing someone who's obviously aesthetically fit...but washboard abs and good looks doesn't run the country! what a joke! We've all been in those situations where these types of individuals get through life by looks alone...palin proved that!

Conservative   March 31st, 2009 12:25 pm ET

I love how everyone is saying that the "Republicans are going to need more than washboard abs, what are they thinking." You do know that TMZ is not run by the GOP, right? This is not the repbulicans putting him out to be the next President, its TMZ and news media like CNN that are putting him as the newest superstar. He won't be running for president anytime soon. If the republicans have a chance in 2012 it will be becasue Obama's policies aren't working like people thought they would and having a new fresh face will defintely not be the answer to that.

The GOP has a substance problem. They have none. They will not get much picking folks on looks alone. Another lesson (Palin) unlearned by the GOP.

Josh Butcher   March 31st, 2009 12:18 pm ET

What a joke. The republicans are so desperate now they are going for young attractive guys? You really think the country will vote for this guy? Good luck in 2012 if you do b/c the republicans still have the same old stuff just a different person

Brian   March 31st, 2009 12:17 pm ET

Keep trotting out the pretty faces with no substance, GOP. You've got a real winner of a party there.

A 20-something   March 31st, 2009 12:14 pm ET

Meghan McCain has a point. If the GOP wants to look fresh and relevant, they need someone with charm and something that attracts young voters. And Schock clearly has some brains if he made it this far.

She's not nominating him to the presidency, just as a new face of the Republican party. Calm down.

J in Iowa   March 31st, 2009 12:14 pm ET

Is this the same Republican party that bashed Obama for being too inexperienced (aka too young) and recently for working out too much (aka washboard abs)?

dave   March 31st, 2009 12:12 pm ET

google shocks thoughts on nukes and China.... this guy is ignorant, young, and dangerous. Research this.

T   March 31st, 2009 12:11 pm ET

This is not cool at all......come on what is this world coming to ?

David   March 31st, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Here we go. It's the looks not the message anymore.

RO, Minnesota   March 31st, 2009 12:11 pm ET

If this story has any news value, shouldn't it be in the "Technology" section? This isn't new: the GOP is constantly re-engineering & re-launching these bland, perfectly detailed androids who are supposedly the future of the party - Quayle, Pawlenty, et al. They're clean & shiny on the outside and seem to work well at first, until their face plates fall off or the pull-strings on their backs get snagged and their pre-recorded stock phrases start coming out of their mouths at random ("Class warfare!" "Tax cut!" "Immigrants!" "Ditto!"). This new guy looks like he could be the new & improved "Romney 2009" model cyborg.

Los   March 31st, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Hey, if he's got the ideas to bring the GOP out of the cesspool it's become mired in, then I'm all ears. We need balance in government, and the caricature that the GOP has become cannot provide that balance.

Willie   March 31st, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Could we please stop the Meghan McCain coverage? She is beginning to look and sound a lot like Paris Hilton for politics...She really is not news worthy anymore

Joanna   March 31st, 2009 12:09 pm ET

He is hot, but i could never condone there false beliefs. Too bad!

Cindy PA   March 31st, 2009 12:09 pm ET

Wow, the Repubilcan party should be disolved. You Republicans can come up with nothing. Think about that.
If I were a Republican I would start looking at 3rd party Candidates. They may be your last hope.

President Obama Brings It!   March 31st, 2009 12:09 pm ET

Doesn't appeal to me, but hey to each his own. But is he the total package? Brains, smarts, vision, integrity.......etc. Hello?

dave   March 31st, 2009 12:06 pm ET

I don't think the Republicans need another token. What they need are policies and a vision that actually attract young people. There's too much information out there for them to rely on the old cynical model that all they need is good packaging. Of course, the real problem is that their content has very little chance of gaining widespread support amongst the populace.

Dave   March 31st, 2009 12:06 pm ET

Form over substance... that's the Republican way. Hey, it worked for Sarah Palin... up to the point that the rest of the public actually started taking a look at what she does and thinks. The Republicans still like her, though. They don't run all that deep.

yolanda   March 31st, 2009 12:05 pm ET

Kevin, President Obama is far from a know nothing. Law degree from HARVARD on constitutional law, the leader of the HARVARD Law Review is a far cry from stupid. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Democrat In Nebraska   March 31st, 2009 12:04 pm ET

@ a f r

I think your comment is right on the mark. Snarly comments do not solve any problems. Rolling up your sleeves, getting a plan, and getting to work do solve problems.

I am happy to see the younger people getting into politics; nature dictates it must happen in order to replenish any organism or organization. I hope that the youthful generation can learn to find commonality in all matters, even while standing up for their principles.

I applaud every young person who decides to enter public service, no matter who their parents are, or what their abs look like, so long as they are there for the good of their constituents and the country.

Chad   March 31st, 2009 12:03 pm ET

He has just about the same experience as Obama, but 15 years younger..

martin   March 31st, 2009 12:02 pm ET

if you read this congressman's bio, he's actually a smart guy. He graduated from a four year college in two years and he also got started in politics to get his high school to allow him to graduate high school early also. He's smart and he's pretty honest because he's fresh. I hope the politics of washington doesn't corrupt him like it does everyone else.

another really smart republican is Bobby Jindal. He's a Rhodes scholar and was accepted to medical and law school at both Harvard and Yale. he's another young guy who shows that the Republican party needs to change from the old ways.

What Me Worry?   March 31st, 2009 12:02 pm ET

Proving, once again, that show business and politics are one and the same. Image is everything and that is why democracy does not work.

I guess she hasn't heard him talk. Another lame excuse for a future politician .I'm sure he's been bought and paid for already

Palin fan...NOT   March 31st, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Now we are looking at the new Republican Pary. They are in big time need of change. The hard right wingnuts....OUT.

Debi   March 31st, 2009 11:59 am ET

Republicans: The people are looking for someone with brains and fresh ideas. Not someone with nice abs.

If we wanted nice abs Chuck Norris would be POTUS. Have all the brains in the republican party left the building?

Eric M   March 31st, 2009 11:59 am ET

Meghan McCain needs to understand that "I like Aaron Schock, I don't like Ann Coulter" is not political discourse. It's a soap opera. It's the equivalent of celebrity gossip....and it's an element of politics that unfortunately has been embraced in the last several years. Now, she's contributing to it. She's part of it.

The other side of political discourse is talking about policy ideas and the role of government. I (a conservative independent) recently had a great conversation with my best friend (who considers himself liberal), and we were pleased to discover that we agreed on most issues...and on the issues we didn't, we could at least understand the logic of the other's position.

Ultimately, we agreed that neither of us trust government or politicians, and that they should have as little impact on our lives as possible. In a perfect world, that's how it would be.

LT   March 31st, 2009 11:59 am ET

I'm sorry but the GOP is going to need more then washboard abs.
They just don’t get it.

Gis Bun   March 31st, 2009 11:56 am ET

If one of requirements to be a politician is that you have to be cute, the US would have Jessica Simpson as the President and Paris Hilton as her Vice-President. Of course the armed forced would probably head into battle wearing pink uniforms.

I don't think the US would vote for anyone to be president at lerast until they hit the 40s.

Schock [I'll assume] graduated from some university but has probably never spent a minute in a decent size company in any management position. And the GOP (or some) think he can lead?

Lefty   March 31st, 2009 11:55 am ET

We've got a house full of rookies now so we don't need anymore. Give us someone who has had to buy their own underwear instead of mom and dad buying them for them.
Your dad lost sad to say and you were never running so why don't you run and play instead of popping off at the mouth to get attentiion.

Quick2822   March 31st, 2009 11:45 am ET

What a great idea!
Lets let all the teeny boppers be responsible for who gets elected!
We can make it a reality show. With Simon and Paula, and Ryan Seacrest!
The audience can call in their votes on who is the cutest (since that is REALLY what matter in government), and we can get NKOTB and the Backstreet boys to sing.

Mari   March 31st, 2009 11:33 am ET

That's nice that the GOP has some 'fresh' blood. They need all the help they can get.

Problem is not getting new people in their party.

The problem with the GOP, is that they continue to be the party of obstruction. And hate, all you have to do is listen to the rants of Rep. Michelle Bachman (MN), who is calling for an "armed revolution". Or listen to Limbaugh the comedian spew his lies, fear and division.

The GOP does not get that America rejected their vile politics. The politics that have ..........divided our Nation. The politics that had Palin calling some of us "real Americans" and questioning other's patriotism!

America is sick and tired of the vitriolic, divisive, hateful politics that seem to be the norm of the GOP!

As a FORMER republican who voted for President Obama, these are the most important issues!!!! Will not go back until the GOP cares about middle class America!

John   March 31st, 2009 11:28 am ET

It seems that GOP is spending a lot of energy trying to find a way to fix itself. The question is why should we care about a broken party trying to fix itself when we have a much bigger job at hand – fix our country that GOP has left in ruins. Does it not occur to GOP that it's not all about the image, but that it actually has something to do with their failed ideology? And ideology is what defines a political party, so it's not like they can change it turn things around.
A party that is more concerned about its own success rather than success of the country – doesn't sound like a keeper to me.

Patrick Murphy   March 31st, 2009 11:27 am ET

Johnny from VA   March 31st, 2009 11:21 am ET

That explains more about Meghan McCain and the younger generation.... don't worry, many of them will grow out of it. But, I can see why Obama focused so much on them. Ha ha. Too bad they outgrow it or he could be locked in for years and years.

a f r   March 31st, 2009 11:20 am ET

Oh come on. Lay off Meghan McCain. I am a die-hard Obama suppoter, but I think she's cool. She doesn't slam people, she is working on critical thinking–young as she is, on evolution of her party (centrism?), and on commonality rather than divisiveness. Youth isn't a crime. She doesn't pretend to be more well-versed in politics than she is.

I sometimes look at the online newspaper from the town I grew up in. The comments I see are largely snarly, truly nasty anti-liberal comments. I hate to see some of the liberals here doing the same slamming (as well as some of the conservatives). It's childish and unintelligent, throwaway nastiness that serves no one.

We can do better.

Stupid, stupid stupid republicans.

It doesn't matter AT ALL whether the guy is good looking or as ugly as Bobby Jindal.

If he doesn't have great policy ideas and he's not really, really smart, he's not gonna get elected.

It's that simple.

Sure, Obama's good looks helped him, but had he not had a vision that inspired us all to be better Americans and to work together to fix our country, he wouldn't be President. Instead we'd have President McCain, we'd be at war with Iran, gas would cost $150/gallon and the economy would be continuing along the tailspin path set by Bush.

Oh, and Meghan McCain would be SLIGHTLY less irrelevant.

Peter E   March 31st, 2009 11:19 am ET

The Republican Party would have to show new ideas and a willingness to work with their Democratic colleagues. So far, Congressman Schock has fallen in-line with his GOP resistance.

Politician   March 31st, 2009 11:18 am ET

Way to go Meghan. You are the Paris Hilton of politics.

Meghan is not a republican. She voted for John Kerry. She was an independent until 2008 when she became a registered republican for her dad.

As far as Congressman Aaron Schock, I heard him on talk radio the other day and he sounded impressive. He is a self made man with conservative values.

Of course, Meghan didn’t mention that. She just saw abs. Ingraham was right.

Jackie in Dallas   March 31st, 2009 11:07 am ET

Mark in Birmingham,
As a woman, I resent your implication that I voted for either President Clinton or President Obama because of their looks! I'm a 58-year old woman who has been voting probably since before you were born, and I've voted my intelligence, which is obviously higher than yours, in every election. I don't vote looks, and I don't party, I vote for what the person running stands for, their intelligence, and their capabilities.

It's little snap judgements like yours that make these blogs so stupid, sometimes! You think it is cute or funny, but it is sexist, politically dumb, and insulting.

It's because of ab-admiring air-heads like her that we are stuck with B.O. for president. The only reason CNN is trying so hard to make her a celebrity is because she rips republicans. She has absolutely nothing interesting or even remotely intelligent to say. YOU HAVE TO LET HER GO, CNN!

Al, NY NY   March 31st, 2009 11:03 am ET

Jackie in Dallas   March 31st, 2009 11:03 am ET

Note to Meghan:
You need something better than star appeal and washboard abs to be an effective politician. You need a message that people want to hear, you need to have good ethics (something that all too many Congresspeople on both sides of the aisle lack!), and you need the intelligence to handle the situations facing our country. Being cute and having a nice body will get you on the cover of People Magazine, but not necessarily on the cover of Time Magazine as Man of the Year!

If he is the typical right wing anti gay, anti choice, bigot, hypocrit republican, it does not matter what he looks like – he will be rejected by the sane majority! Just like the old man with old ideas McCain and his wacky/tacky running mate Sarah were in November.

katiec   March 31st, 2009 10:58 am ET

Aaron Shock is the typical republican. Very arrogant, self centered and completely supportive of the extreme right republicans.
He won in our district because he had no competition and access to unlimited funds to spend on his campaign.
He is not change, just the old politics as usual.

Hey Meghan McCain,

I voted for your dad, but you are an idiot.

The apple really DOES fall far away from the tree.

Media celebrity   March 31st, 2009 10:44 am ET

Independent chicago man age 25   March 31st, 2009 10:42 am ET

Ok and......he's from Peoria, IL doesn't say much. Yea he's 27 and around my age but keep in mind that the people who voted for him in Peoria's district are mainly college students. So for me he's just gonna be a yes man with a cute face for the GOP. Oh and for all those people saying Obamas a celebrity politican that mixs with hollywood, well guess thats now old news.

Bafun   March 31st, 2009 10:41 am ET

Well Sarah Palin sees Russia from her house and it makes her a foreign policies expert.
Meghan's name is McCain... it makes her for sure an expert in politic.

Takeshi   March 31st, 2009 10:41 am ET

Hey sex sells. political couple coming.

Drew   March 31st, 2009 10:39 am ET

This is rediculous. No one should even considering listening to Meghan McCain. She hasn't been around long enough to even act like she knows whats going on.

We truely Love Sarah   March 31st, 2009 10:39 am ET

Action, Action!!

Democratic Party tries to help America.
Republican Party still hasn't found its hotty yet, but continues to provide no answers for America's problems.

grahame   March 31st, 2009 10:38 am ET

Oh Great. I've got abbs vote for me I will make a great president. This is getting really stupid.
George Bush. No brain but I'd like to have a beer with him.
Sarah Palin. Also no brain but she looks good--(Stupid Moron)

And this is the image the Republicans wish to present?
Well God Help them.

We need a president with brains NOT just looks.

Gimme a break

Older but wiser   March 31st, 2009 10:38 am ET

MARYANN ILLINOIS   March 31st, 2009 10:36 am ET

Yes he is ...this is coming from a life long Democrat turned Independent during the 2008 political season...truly a fresh view of the NEW REPUBLICAN party

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   March 31st, 2009 10:36 am ET

I think Meghan McCain is trying to hook up with the young congressman. She can care less about his political ambitions.

Eric   March 31st, 2009 10:36 am ET

I can see Meghan is very interested in Schock's views on the issues. Oh wait, not a single one was raised outside of his abs and age.

KJL   March 31st, 2009 10:34 am ET

Who cares what Meghan McCain thinks? Her surname doesn't make her an expert on anything, and she hasn't been around long enough to have real insights.

lynn in NM   March 31st, 2009 10:33 am ET

He's cute. He has washboard abs. Ah, but is he dishonest? That's the one quality a person needs to be a politician.
