Oscar de la Renta thinks Michelle Obama should not have worn a sweater to Buckingham Palace.
Oscar de la Renta thinks Michelle Obama should not have worn a sweater to Buckingham Palace.

(CNN) – Michelle Obama's fashion choices at the G20 summit have drawn widespread praise, but at least one famous designer thinks the fist lady made a major faux pas in her wardrobe choice for a private audience with Queen Elizabeth II.

"You don't...go to Buckingham Palace in a sweater," Oscar de la Renta told Woman's Wear Daily regarding Mrs. Obama's decision to wear a cardigan over an Isabel Toledo-designed dress for the private meeting.

De la Renta also said the first lady - who often sports relatively affordable American brands - should broaden her wardrobe and seize an opportunity to spur the flailing fashion industry.

“American fashion right now is struggling,” he said. “I think I understand what [Obama and her advisers] are doing, but I don’t think that is the right message at this particular point."

"I don’t object to the fact that Mrs. Obama is wearing J. Crew to whatever because the diversity of America is what makes this country great. But there are a lot of great designers out there. I think it’s wrong to go in one direction only," he added.

But J. Crew is likely hoping the first lady doesn't change her style any time soon. When Mrs. Obama was photographed wearing a $300 J. Crew "crystal constellation" cardigan from the mid-market retailer Tuesday, the item sold out on the company's Web site only hours later.

A spokesman for J. Crew said the item has also  sold out in nearly all the company’s stores as well.

Too much attention is being focused on Michelle Obama's clothes. Quite frankly I don't care if she wears a potato sack or frolicks in her birthday suit. All I care about is that she represent our nation in a way that benefits us.

jj   April 4th, 2009 12:18 am ET

I see people do not have nothing else to talk about. I think she look great as a frist lady. So please stop hating. Grow up, Lets talk about how we going to get our encomy back on track or what we can do.

Sharon   April 4th, 2009 12:18 am ET

She has 4 years and many events and designers to wear. Leave her alone and let her develop her own style as she gets used to her new role. We see her as stately. However, she may see herself as regular and need some time to "get there". In the meantime, she is doing a fine job making everyday folk comfortable with her and her family.

mmm   April 4th, 2009 12:17 am ET

Finally!!! Thank you Oscar de la Renta!

Kirk   April 4th, 2009 12:12 am ET

Who cares what Oscar de La what?? thinks. How many ordinary Americans and British have toured Buckingham Palace in a sweater? I bet the Queen herself wears sweaters when she is in public (gasp!). Typical high class nonsense – the struggling fashion industry! Ha! There are all those unemployed designers and models struggling to find a decent paying job – makes my heart break. C'mon, most of them have a personal net worth that would make my income look like a paupers! Wear whatever the heck you want Michelle!

lmz0405   April 4th, 2009 12:12 am ET

I disagree! I think Mrs. Obama looked beautiful and I praise her for wearing clothes that most of America can afford to purchase. As a 27 year old woman, I am tired of our role models wearing articles of clothing that cost more than my rent. Fashion has gotten out of control. I appreciate what Mrs. Obama is doing anf think De La Renta should learn to scale down.

JayCo   April 4th, 2009 12:04 am ET

Michelle Obama should wear what she likes. It is a part of who she is.

fefe   April 4th, 2009 12:02 am ET

I think the first lady looked beautiful in her sweater, and was being her self

Maggie   April 4th, 2009 12:00 am ET

Michelle Obama has shown great capability in her style choices. She is secure enough with herself to demonstrate that she does not need Oscar de la Renta's suggestions (or criticisms) to make wardrobe decisions. Laura Bush spent enough with Oscar to support him for awhile. "if you can't say something nice......say nothing!"

BKMC   April 3rd, 2009 11:56 pm ET

Oscar de la rente is a conservative thinker who does not understand Michele's principles. He has it wrong completly. Michelle is great and a wonderful human being

Bryan Loader   April 3rd, 2009 11:56 pm ET

Are there not several more important issues facing the world today than the hurt feelings of some fashion designer? Personnaly I don't care if President amd Ms Obama wear Levis and Fruit of the loom T shirts if they help get the job done

Joe Unger, San Francisco   April 3rd, 2009 11:53 pm ET

Yeah, okay, she's no Jackie O but she'll do. So J Crewe will do better than haute couture while Obama occupies the presidency.

sam   April 3rd, 2009 11:53 pm ET

Obviously, Oscar wants some attention. I think that Mrs. Obama should wear whatever she wants–what she says is more important and she has her own style. I love that she is down to earch and doesn't wear a lot of expensive designer clothes. She is an intelligent, educated, beautiful woman and she doesn't need Oscar at all.

xyzwanda   April 3rd, 2009 11:52 pm ET

Who cares what she was wearing! She has more to offer than just fashion! Can America talk about someting else! Mr. De La Renta are you just mad because she hasn't reached out to you and the other the top designers...that most Americans CAN'T AFFORD ANYWAY!

Say It Out Loud   April 3rd, 2009 11:52 pm ET

A First Lady who wears affordable American made clothes and it's wrong because she should be spurring on the lagging fashion business?? I don't think so! IF she wore over priced fashion she'd be blasted for flaunting while the rest of country scrapes to make ends meet.

andy m   April 3rd, 2009 11:49 pm ET

Michelle looks well dressed to me Oscar.

Julie   April 3rd, 2009 11:44 pm ET

Oscar de la Renta is a horrible person. Who gives a flip about a black sweater????? She looked beautiful. There are lots of other things in this world to comment on or to worry about. How about Oscar takes all his money and clothes the homeless? Do something real. SHEEESH!

Katie   April 3rd, 2009 11:43 pm ET

Snobby!!! At a time like this when people can't afford to put food on the table we're supposed to be thinking about rescuing haute couture?!?!?

PAUL W., TAMPA   April 3rd, 2009 11:43 pm ET

Really, Michelle Obama should flaunt excess just to give the most superfluous industry of all (fashion) a boost? Have we not had enough of style over substance in this country? Eight years of idiocracy parading around as a "cowBOY" seems to me enough. A sweater for the queen seems quite alright with me.

Perusing-through   April 3rd, 2009 11:42 pm ET

"You don't…go to Buckingham Palace in a sweater," Oscar de la Renta told Woman's Wear Daily regarding Mrs. Obama's decision to wear a cardigan over an Isabel Toledo-designed dress for the private meeting.

WHO MAKES UP THESE DUMB RULES?

Caren   April 3rd, 2009 11:41 pm ET

Oscar De La Renta needs a reality check. What Mrs. Obama wore was not only appropriate but was in good taste. Not everyone needs to wear designer clothes to highten their position. She has obviously proved that!

LT   April 3rd, 2009 11:40 pm ET

I think the First Lady can wear whatever she wants to wear Oscar de la Renta. She is a reasonable woman who doesn't wear single pieces that cost as much as most people's mortgages. The Queen didn't seem to mind, case closed.

marielle   April 3rd, 2009 11:38 pm ET

Oscar....Good Grief! The Queen didn't look affended by Michelle's outfit. Our hope is that HRH is less shallow than that. I am guessing that the world's problems go beyond petty sniping about the wardrobe of a president's wife.

Kate Wintermeyer   April 3rd, 2009 11:38 pm ET

What is unfortunate is that even a $300 J. Crew sweater is not affordable to "most" of us.

Augustine   April 3rd, 2009 11:32 pm ET

Hey, Oscar, if the shoe were on the other foot, would we have heard from you? When the fox could not get the grapes, he said they were sour. Look at the first lady and weep.

patsy   April 3rd, 2009 11:32 pm ET

Oscar de la Renta has been around too long. Not wear a sweater in front of the queen? Respect isn't found in a wardrobe, but in the person wearing it. Michelle Obama shows respect to everyone she meets. She could be wearing a bathrobe and she would still be personable and charming.

Laura   April 3rd, 2009 11:31 pm ET

Her outfit sure seemed to work with the Queen, which after all was the primary purpose.

If Oscar can't compete with other designers, he should retire. He's just trying to shame Michelle Obama into buying his clothes. How unprofessional.

Michelle's doing an extraordinary job! Lay off, Oscar et al.

Ky   April 3rd, 2009 11:26 pm ET

Most Americans don't really care what Mrs. Obama is wearing. Her attire has very little to do with what's relevant in this country. After reading this news article only one word came to mind. Can anyone say shallow? Come on people, our First Lady deserves better.

Jackie McGrady   April 3rd, 2009 11:24 pm ET

In reference to Mrs. Obama. Oscar de la Ranta said the things he said because he wants Mrs Obama to pay thousands for his one of a kind clothes.

Times are hard, also because Mrs. Obama is The First Lady and a person of color, no matter what she wears she will be criticize. She is her own person, please, let her be her own person.

I did not hear anyone criticize the last first lady. Was it because she had no style? The world is in a turmoll, lets find some thing else to talk about not what some one says because he is not making any money.

Teresa Evans   April 3rd, 2009 11:21 pm ET

Who cares what Oscar de la Renta thinks? Michele Obama wears what she can afford, and what she likes. I get so tired of these designers, who by the way, the average L
"Main Street" American can't afford to even try on their designs,so please Oscar- save your breath. Michelle Obama will never act like something she is not. Michele is a down-to-earth woman unconcerned with "labels". Its her choice to wear whatever she wants, as often as she wants. Michele couldn't care less who's name is on the label, and I am so glad!!! Congrats J Crew!

Dan Brock   April 3rd, 2009 11:19 pm ET

I think the critics are correct. Michelle Obama's fashion statement is a disgrace. I think that it is only right that you exile her to our country (Canada) to be our first lady. Since you're sending Michelle here, would you mind asking the president if he'd come along, too? Dan

MsOD   April 3rd, 2009 11:19 pm ET

I agree with DeLa Renta. Sometimes Mrs. Obama is too casual and she doesn't always have to look so mid-market. She is the face of Ameriucan women abroad and unfortunately, the unchic, dowdy strereotype is still there for Americans. For meeting heads of state and dignitaries, she should be less casual. Nor does she need to restrict herself to American brands–for example, Louis Vuitton is designed by an American and fashion is a global industry. She doesn't have to go Marie Antoinette on us, but some higher end pieces are really needed- her wardrobe is too timid and safe.

eric   April 3rd, 2009 11:19 pm ET

I think Mrs. Obama is doing the RIGHT thing by not wearing top designers. With so many Americans suffering in these economic times, it would be irratating to many to see pricey outfits on America's First Lady.

Lori   April 3rd, 2009 11:17 pm ET

Her outfit looks okay to me and considering the economy why waste money on over priced clothing.

Patty   April 3rd, 2009 11:17 pm ET

There are far more important issues at hand than whether or not Michelle Obama should have been wearing a sweater to meet the Queen. Get real, Oscar. In this economy middle America can't afford to wear designer clothing. Sounds to me like you are just another elitist who just doesn't get it . . .

Jasmine in Germany   April 3rd, 2009 11:14 pm ET

De la Renta is correct. There is no argument. The First Lady should have worn long sleeves for her meeting with the Queen. (there are historical reasons for this, I have a negative opinion of Michelle's fashion advisor for this faux pas). I like Michelle, I'm on her side, but she still has a bit to learn. Michelle still flunks "Public Speaking 101" (sets a poor example for graduates of an Ivy-league School) with all those "umms" as "fillers" while she speaks (it was quite bad during during the campaign, but she as improved no doubt through the assistance of consultants).

I think that Mrs. Obama is making an impact on fashion in the way that she intends to.; to a mass audience, amd I am aware that related media concerns are still operating in the way which they have been for many years. It shows that they are not listening to Michelle's husband well enough.

Tracy   April 3rd, 2009 11:14 pm ET

I think she looked fine. It was a cardigan, but matched her outfit perfectly. It wasn't just any old sweater.

lynn   April 3rd, 2009 11:11 pm ET

I love the audacity of our First Lady's attire. I think she always looks amazing and fresh.

Perhaps Mr. de la Renta would have preferred she wear the Carol Burnett Drapes? =:0

Dave T   April 3rd, 2009 11:10 pm ET

If only the queen herself weren't already such a fashion faux pas! Does she ever appear in public without that matronly purse? And in her own home? Why does she need to carry around a purse in her own home?

Carolyn L Lindgren   April 3rd, 2009 11:10 pm ET

Yea! Oscar! I agree. What is all this talk about how great Ms OBama dresses when she throws a cardigan over everything she wears! This is not a high school class meeting! Please!

LMC   April 3rd, 2009 11:08 pm ET

The vast majority of Americans do not wear Oscar de la Renta designs or other "high fashion" designer wear. It's nice to have someone the rest of us can identify with. Mrs. Obama is not on the red carpet for the Academy Awards! If she was, I would hope she wouldn't alter her style! Would de la Renta like to comment on what the Queen wore?

Kim   April 3rd, 2009 11:07 pm ET

Her clothing was appropriate and tasteful. I love the fact that she buys off the rack at places like J Crew-as do lots and lots of American women! Perhaps Mr. De La Renta is a bit jealous. Give it up, Oscar. The days of Nancy Reagan are over.

John   April 3rd, 2009 11:07 pm ET

I have to disagree. For the average American, it is so refreshing to see the First Lady dress in clothes that are not out of reach of the average American. Maybe the fashion industry needs to follow her lead!!

Well done Mrs. Obama!!

Ben   April 3rd, 2009 11:06 pm ET

This barely qualifies as news. Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing the fashion industry go away. It has definitely done more harm than good, particularly to women. How many cases of eating disorders do you think the fashion industry is responsible for?

AZ bookworm   April 3rd, 2009 11:06 pm ET

I am not sure that this criticism of Michelle Obama is really warranted. She is a confident, intelligent, strong woman and as such she is setting her own style.

So I find it a bit demeaning to hear statements pertaining to her supposedly following solely her advisers' input for that. Besides that what is wrong with promoting American brands and retailers like J. Crew right now? Just because she does not generally favor haute couture designers, does not make her any less fashionable. She has great poise and taste but I doubt she's trying to be a Jackie Kennedy type of first lady. She is down to earth and she doesn't feel that as an educated, professional woman with executive experience she has anything to prove. Her choice in clothing is appropriate and reflects a good understanding of and alignment with our country's current economic affairs.

wellsaid   April 3rd, 2009 11:05 pm ET

you know...the queen isn't wearing anything too hot herself. are you just jealous she wasn't wearing one of your designs? geez...who cares what a designer thinks anyway?

sosdreaming@ejourney.com   April 3rd, 2009 11:04 pm ET

Who cares what "Oscar" thinks!

Michelle you looked just lovely.......a wonderful role model for young ladies all over the world.

Linda   April 3rd, 2009 11:04 pm ET

De la Renta should loosen his knickers and relax. When I went to Buckingham Palace I wore a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and cheap canvas sneakers. It isn't the clothes that are important, it's the person wearing them!

mes   April 3rd, 2009 11:03 pm ET

Honestly, the thing about Michelle Obama, who the hell cares! There's so many other things of importance: the world & u.s. economy, global warming, animal abuse, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, & Korea that I don't know why any of the "news" networks would cover Mrs. Obama. Its not only not news, its not important. Are we so insecure that we need to cover people other than the president & his policies which affect all of us. The Obama children & certainly not Mrs. Obama are really not newsworthy.

Jason   April 3rd, 2009 11:03 pm ET

Just quickly browsing Mr. de la Renta's website I see dresses for $4800.00, and blouse's for $1200. I really don't think at a time like this the First Lady should have to take it upon herself to push clothing that 90% of Americans can't afford. There is a bigger world out there with more important things right now than the health of the high fashion industry. Let's stick with affordable clothes for now and worry about getting people jobs, and better wages so maybe they can afford Mr de la Renta's clothes in the future.

BEE   April 3rd, 2009 11:01 pm ET

I think the article speaks for itself, Mr. DE LA RENTA. The average citizen does not have the money nor the occasion to wear runway fashion. However, give them J. Crew and they will come..... to stimulate the economy just hours after Michelle Obabma sports it!

Debi   April 3rd, 2009 11:00 pm ET

Personally it is nice to see the First Lady in affordable clothing. Perhaps the fashion industry should take the hint. Blue collar workers are the ones paying taxes and we certainly cannot afford Oscar de LaRenta fashions on our salaries. J. Crew is more affordable, tho most of us can't even afford a $300.00 sweater. The so called faux pax could have simply been that Mrs. Obama was not use to the cool damp weather of England and a sweater made her feel more comfortable. Not everyone is as hot natured as the models flaunting Oscar de LaRenta Fashions!

independent Jim   April 3rd, 2009 11:00 pm ET

Michelle Obama dresses like a businesswoman, which is the "American look.". She seems to be a great role model. Oscar de la Renta needs to realize that his opinion doesn't matter to most of us.

Hmmmm....   April 3rd, 2009 11:00 pm ET

I am hoping that our President and his wife do not so US American that they think they can ignore the customs and protocol of the countries they visit. I would like them to respect those who host them and one can do that by caring enough to properly prepare.

Pat   April 3rd, 2009 11:00 pm ET

Can you say sore loser? Mr. de La Renta, sorry Mrs. Obama understands that you don't have to spend thousands of dollars on a wardrobe to look fabulous. The days of thinking you simply must spend ridiculous amounts of money on clothes are gone. Mr. de La Renta needs to follow her lead. I would be willing to bet my tiny paycheck that his sales would increase if he did.

Michael   April 3rd, 2009 10:59 pm ET

It is extremely fortunate that First Lady Michelle Obama is as personavle and bright as she is. That way, when everyone is done analyzing what outfit she wore or a given day, they'll have to sit and listen when she opens her mouth to speak! She looks great!

jenny   April 3rd, 2009 10:59 pm ET

I think that is RIDICULOUS to say with the economy the way it is that she should be in a a big name designer outfit. Helloooo?? She doesnt owe the Fashion industry a darn thing. The American People are who she needs to represent, and these days, Jcrew is barely even affordable to 40% of the country if not more.
She looks great, the Queen loved her, and she did a great job representing the REAL American woman.

Rose   April 3rd, 2009 10:58 pm ET

Guess what Oscar De la Renta, I think Michelle Obama should wear what she feels comfortable wearing. She wears the clothes beautiful and a lot of a fashion choices are affordable. I know a lot of people cannot afford your clothes. Get over it.

Isabella   April 3rd, 2009 10:51 pm ET

WIth all due respect to the great Mr. De la Renta, Mrs O can where what the heck she wants to Buckingham. She also is not required to curtsy to the Queen. I applaud her keep wearing what you want, MRS O. You always look great.

paule   April 3rd, 2009 10:48 pm ET

leave that woman alone she looked great in whatever she wears and that is all that matters.I am sure there is no signed protocol about what to wear at the palace, she was properly attired and that is all that matters, too much worked up about fashion, lets hope the g20 will help this world economic issues.

Jun   April 3rd, 2009 10:47 pm ET

She represents the majority of Americans not the elite few like yourself, Mr de la Renta.
:-)

rosemary ward   April 3rd, 2009 10:46 pm ET

I agree that the sweater was a faux pas....what was
she thinking??? It looked like she was going to drive the carpool. Who are her fashion advisers??
Fire them. She was meeting with the QUEEN.

Otherwise, I like her modern, graceful look and I really really love her.

Molly Weasley   April 3rd, 2009 10:46 pm ET

It would be nice to read a substantive article about the first lady that DIDN'T mention what she was wearing.

Rae   April 3rd, 2009 10:44 pm ET

Tell Oscar Baby to mind his own business. She looks fabulous. and she can wear whatever she wants to. He's just jealous that she's not sporting his ridiculous, ostentatious, and ugly fashions. Leave her alone Oscar. Get a life!!

Honest Abe   April 3rd, 2009 10:42 pm ET

I hope the fashion industry FAILS! There will be NO bailout for overpriced clothing! How do you justify $600 pants and $1000 shirts?

rtl   April 3rd, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Sounds like De La Renta is just jealous he's not Mrs. Obama's choice. She'd rather wear J. Crew than the weird crap a lot of the other "designers" design!

LaWanda   April 3rd, 2009 10:40 pm ET

Sorry, but I seriously doubt that most American women view a $300 cardigan as "mid-market".

Missy   April 3rd, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Oscar de la Renta is right on the money. Michelle Obama is not a fashion icon and she lacks a sense of syle.

Holly - MO   April 3rd, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Ole he's a little jealous. She didn't spend thousand's on one of his sweaters. I think she look great and the choice was very appropriate. Wake UP it's the 21st century! She is the new face of our young women.

Chris   April 3rd, 2009 10:36 pm ET

I think Michelle Obama can go anywhere she darn well pleases and wear anything she wants and it doesn't have to be OK with Oscar de Jealous or anyone else. Sour grapes, perhaps?

Moe NY   April 3rd, 2009 10:36 pm ET

OMG....Oscar de la Renta....get over it. Who is listening to your corporate whine? Certainly not the jobless/homeless /people who have lost their homes, etc. in this country....the majority of the American people cannot afford your clothes anyway, even without a recession. It is about time you over priced designers where put in your place. Our First Lady is doing just fine without your outrageous price tags. Our First Lady always looks great....whether it is J. Crew or Kmart...she carries it off very well.

Steve   April 3rd, 2009 10:35 pm ET

"should broaden her wardrobe and seize an opportunity to spur the flailing fashion industry."

Come on, really?

Margo   April 3rd, 2009 10:34 pm ET

It's clear that Oscar de la Renta resents the fact that Michelle Obama is not spending $150,000 on a wardrobe from Oscar de la Renta.

Someone should remind Mr. de la Renta that the Obamas were invited to a private social meeting – to take tea with the Queen and her husband. One does not wear a powersuit to a private, informal occasion.

Michelle has an unfailing sense of classy style and does not need de la Renta's snobbish (and expensive) advice

LisaB   April 3rd, 2009 10:33 pm ET

And the winner of the Most Out of Touch with the Common Man Award goes to . . . Oscar de la Renta!!!! His opinion on this issue is ridiculous and irrelevant in the large scheme of things.

Diane   April 3rd, 2009 10:31 pm ET

Hey Oscar, maybe Michelle was cold! Why don't you back off and get a life already?

just j   April 3rd, 2009 10:31 pm ET

wear what you want.. what makes u different from all the former first ladies

frankc   April 3rd, 2009 10:30 pm ET

maybe you should run for President and then you can wear the crap styles you push. I guess you prefer Mrs. Obama to look like a bimbo hooker rather than a professional with brains.

Penrosewd   April 3rd, 2009 10:30 pm ET

Who cares what she wore? I thought this economic crisis might get us past nonsens of that sort. She was respectably dressed, period.

kat   April 3rd, 2009 10:27 pm ET

Oh please !!!!!! Enough of who should be wearing what fashion and when, where and how !!!!!! No one should have to worry about getting someones feathers ruffled because they didn't pick a particular designers clothing. I buy from JC Penney, Wal-Mart and what ever I can afford. I don't care what the label says and most everyone I know feels the same. Now that my kids are grown and have their own kids its Wal-mart or Kohls and its never full price !!!!! No more jeans or footwear from the mall.

Michelle Obama looks fantastic in what she wears. Comments have been made about her going sleeveless also. Get a life already !!!!!

SteveD   April 3rd, 2009 10:26 pm ET

Oscar get over it. There are far larger problems facing the world today, who cares what a designer has to say. No one cares what you or the Queen think. If that is all people had to worry about life would be good.

Leah DiMarco, Texas   April 3rd, 2009 10:26 pm ET

Leave Our First Lady alone!
Michelle has looked lovely in all of the outfits she has worn so far overseas.

Seriously   April 3rd, 2009 10:24 pm ET

I think most of America could care less what Oscar de la Renta has to say. We're J.Crew. Thats America.

Doug Fekete   April 3rd, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Why should 95% of the United States care what De la Renta says? People like him are out of touch with reality and only have a following by the rich and famous.

Out of work   April 3rd, 2009 10:20 pm ET

De la renta is just jealous that Michelle didn't pick one of his designs. How pathetic he has to lash out in such a nasty way.

bfusi   April 3rd, 2009 10:18 pm ET

Come on ... get a life! Michelle Obama is a classy lady and "name brands" do not make the person. Don't be so shallow!

wendy san   April 3rd, 2009 10:17 pm ET

I think Oscar de la Renta is jealous Lets face it, not too many working class can afford his clothes. I dont think Her Majesty the Queen minded at all.

Sandra   April 3rd, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Perhaps Oscar De La WAH WAH WAH WAH needs to rethink his close minded views and get off his high horse. Not everyone lives on champagne. caviar and couture (aka bent over at the knees). Who is he to say her choice of wardword is wrong and requires new directions? I think she looks classy and modern. Most Americans relate to her choice of wardrobe. This is arrogance and ignorance in one pathetic article. Speaking of the flailing economy, I'd like to know what ol Oscar the grouch is doing to contribute to the solution. Flapping his gums and criticizing sure isn't making a difference.

Mike   April 3rd, 2009 10:16 pm ET

The fashion industry is flailing because some of these designers items are far out of reach of the average american. So she wore a sweater to see the queen. Also another reason the industry is failing... cause of these snooty stuck up designers.

Boni   April 3rd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

The First Lady would look good in a burlap bag! She is a lovely woman and will make her mark in fashion history. I will be willing to bet that you won't hear any complaints from the queen.

Whatever   April 3rd, 2009 10:12 pm ET

Who cares what Oscar de la Renta thinks??? Rest assured, if she ever decides to go the "designer" route, she won't be wearing anything by him.

Apparently you Do go to Buckingham Palace in a sweater. Michelle Obama just did. Fine by me.

Pel   April 3rd, 2009 10:12 pm ET

I think the First Lady is doing the right thing. The country is in a recession and she is maintaining her contact with the common person in general and ladies in particular by not being over expensive. She is not trying to be a pretender.

Keep strutting your stuff First Lady

pam Eugene OR   April 3rd, 2009 10:11 pm ET

French fashion designers such as Oscar de al Renta have a financial stake in this discussion. J Crew is just fine for the Americans who can not afford $2000 for a scarf or a belt. It would be horrible for Michelle Obama to promote a European designer in these tough times. orry Oscar but J Crew suites US just fine.
We like her look.
Signed USA citizens

K Faulkner   April 3rd, 2009 10:11 pm ET

Was it really Mrs. Obama's sweater? Maybe the queen's protocol protectors saw her - Ack! - sleeveless and insisted on covering the famous biceps.

TJ   April 3rd, 2009 10:09 pm ET

a $300 sweater is NOT "realatively affordable." No doubt designer clothing cost much more, so I'm not surprised they are rightfully failing.

JGSB   April 3rd, 2009 10:06 pm ET

She looked wonderful in what she wore to visit the Queen. I hope Michelle continues to dress in what she likes and feels comfortable in. She has a refreshing taste in clothes that is enjoyable to see.

Amy   April 3rd, 2009 10:06 pm ET

The first lady look fab!!!!! She is a classy lady.

Sue   April 3rd, 2009 10:04 pm ET

Sounds like sour grapes to me. I thought she looked lovely.

Pete Collins   April 3rd, 2009 10:04 pm ET

Oscar's just upset because he doesn't look good in those outfits.
He should do his job better and excite the fashion industry for himself, not rely on the First Lady to do his job for him.

Barbara - Atlanta   April 3rd, 2009 10:03 pm ET

I'm sorry Oscar...but I can't afford your style. The First Lady got it right.

bobcat   April 3rd, 2009 10:03 pm ET

What a stupid male comment. These two women quickly formed a relationship based on mutual respect and admiration. They could have worn jeans and t-shirts. Get a life Oscar. Is it all theater? Maybe something actually has meaning not just show. For what it is worth – I am a married guy with a great wife and two terrific daughters. Real people do real things.

Barbara   April 3rd, 2009 10:02 pm ET

Tough words for the First Lady? Your joking! Michelle Obama is in the same class as Jackie Kennedy and Princess Diana. Sheesh

tati   April 3rd, 2009 10:01 pm ET

Michelle is a "fashion disaster" !! Before her trip to Europe she
should study a lot - all sweaters are for the gardening . Not for the
real Queen and not for the inauguration of her husband !
She is repeatedly telling us how smart she is . I'd like to see it !

Fashion in trouble?   April 3rd, 2009 10:01 pm ET

Oscar de la Renta is fuming because Mrs Obama is spurning high end designers. Anyways, too much stress on fashion has made the society become very superficial and very out of touch. Downsize the prices of your creation, encourage your models to eat and be good role models and then the country will think of bailing you out. Geez!

Karen,   April 3rd, 2009 9:59 pm ET

De La Renta's feelings are hurt because she didn't chose him as her designer.

I think the world has more important issues to deal with for heavens sake.

sean garitson   April 3rd, 2009 9:58 pm ET

Geeez, Mr. De Lorenta if she spent money on expensive clothes you and everyone else would be saying she's being wasteful in this tough economy. She is a great fashionable woman.

Ms. Dotti 8923   April 3rd, 2009 9:58 pm ET

Oscar! Oscar! Oscar! Of course there are a lot of "great designers" out there. Our greed and "MUST HAVE" of the past few years' prove that.

We charged up every credit card to its max trying to buy that over-priced "great designer" stuff. We knew we REALLY could not afford those old rags and shoes and purses – but bought them anyway and shamelessly only wore most of them one time. I'm having a garage sale to pay my credit card bills.

Now - we are all broke. We need First Lady Obama to remind us of what can look good – if we stop trying to keep up with the Kennedys, McClains, Palins and the Bushes – and stay tune within our own financial reality keeping up with the Joneses and the Obamas.

I'm sure First Lady Obama has a few "great designer" pieces in her wardrobe and has/and will wear them. And you can bet the Queen knows those 'great designers' and would NOT have been impressed. In fact the Queen may not have hugged First Lady Obama if she knew that her frock was TOO expensive to touch.

Now we – America AND the entire planet – are in a recession. And as she should – First Lady Obama is showing us how to be frugal. If Oscar had read Oprah's conversation with her in her magazine – 'O' – he would have known she is VERY VERY frugal – in fact she is borderline CHEAP – in her own magnificent looking way.

Wendell   April 3rd, 2009 9:57 pm ET

I willing to bet that J.Crew employs more people, and drives more money in to the US economy in one year than Mr. del la Renta has in his whole career. Sour, very sour grapes. I thought you were better than that but I guess I was wrong.

OSCAR IS WRONG!!!!   April 3rd, 2009 9:56 pm ET

I am sorry..I disagree with Oscar De La Renta..Who is a native born of Dominican Republic. As a fashion fasionista I think its importart for the First Lady to stay humble when choosing her clothing, this is sending a signal that she is aware of the financial situation worldwide...On her trip to Europe she looked radient, classy not over done.. She has a gorgeous body and she knows what works for her....She surpass every expectation in Europe..The queen of England was really impress, she even put her hands on the first lady, that was just an amazing gesture. Lets be clear the obamas are very whealthy but they are very well are in tune with the current mood...I also want to add that she wears very expensive clothing too!!! Her outfits range fron 300.00 for a simple sweater to 7,000-10,000. for dresses. The jewelry she wore for this were value at over 120,000 for diamon earings, bracelets ect...

Michaell keep being humble, kind, classy dont change.

Paul   April 3rd, 2009 9:56 pm ET

I feel *so* bad that high fashion designers are having trouble selling $4 worth of fabric (stitched together overseas for pennies in labor costs) for hundreds or thousands of dollars. Yeah, right.

The house of cards of high fashion has been trembling for years, designing ridiculous clothing at even more ridiculous prices. Pardon me if I feel no sympathy for them now that it's collapsing.

Christine -TN   April 3rd, 2009 9:56 pm ET

As much as I love Michelle. I'd have to agree, I thought her outfit to meet the queen was a bit too informal.

Meka   April 3rd, 2009 9:55 pm ET

I would ask Oscar De La Renta, to please show a little Grace!

susan   April 3rd, 2009 9:55 pm ET

I may be wrong, but I think most American women can't afford, and won't buy, $300.00 sweaters for everyday wear. Granted, I would spend a lot if I was visiting the Queen too. FYI even J. Crew is out of reach for many.....

curtis schmidt   April 3rd, 2009 9:54 pm ET

To Mr. De La Renta: Grow up

Tom   April 3rd, 2009 9:53 pm ET

Oscar's input about the Obamas is not needed. His designs are not needed. The fashion industry is not needed. Let's deal with things that matter.

john in minnesota   April 3rd, 2009 9:52 pm ET

I thought slavery was over with...De Le Renta apparently does not think so.To him, everyone must be a fashion slave. What a sad , narrow little world he lives in. Get a life!!!!

Asha Jones   April 3rd, 2009 9:52 pm ET

Oscar, are you mad because she's not wearing your clothes???

mary and denise   April 3rd, 2009 9:51 pm ET

we applaud michelle obama's fashion discretion in these struggling economic times. it is a breath of fresh air to see the first lady of the united states donning clothes that are more financially practical and responsible than have many of her first lady predecessors. wearing oscar de la renta and other high-end frocks would be a slap in the face to the masses of americans who could not afford such clothes even in the heartiest of financial climates. way to go michelle!

Kelsey   April 3rd, 2009 9:50 pm ET

I think its great that she's wearing more affordable pieces. Oscar de la Renta isn't exactly known for being cheap. She's showing that she has good style but doesn't have to spend thousands of dollars on a dress. I love her fashion and I definitely think she is bringing a new look to what we've previously thought of the First Lady.

Diana K   April 3rd, 2009 9:46 pm ET

With the economical direction of our country current, I think it is outstanding that Mrs. Obama is not tripping down the high end fashion lane like Mr. de la Renta suggests.

john   April 3rd, 2009 9:46 pm ET

I thought the goal was to look good. And she looks gorgeous. This guy sells overpriced pieces of fabric and wants to raise the "value" or his creations. What a sore loser.

Martin Arguello   April 3rd, 2009 9:45 pm ET

Michelle Obama, is the wife to the most powerful man in the world. She is also the first black first lady. Furthermore, she's an attorney and a mother of two. The world is looking to her for guidance. Appearances are everything right now. If she wants to pretend that's she humble, well great. However, Mrs. Obama out of anyone should know that there are dress codes for every occasion. She wouldn't show up to court in a mini skirt. Why would she show up in a sweater to the G-20. She needs to start setting an example and needs to start presenting herself as a strong leader, She needs to stop wearing these green outfits and start wearing a business suit, if she wants to be treated with respect. As a public figure and a role model to our world's youth, it is her obligation and responsiblity to represent herself in a proper fashion.

Jellybelly   April 3rd, 2009 9:40 pm ET

She looks OK to me. Maybe its a message to the people like "there are more important things", this'll do fine.

Karen   April 3rd, 2009 9:37 pm ET

Mrs. Obama needs to wear clothing that make her hips and rear end look smaller, not larger as the styles she now wears do.

Ed   April 3rd, 2009 9:36 pm ET

Coming from a man who designs clothes for women who can only fit sizes 0 to 2, I'd say he can take his advice and shove it.

Dee   April 3rd, 2009 9:36 pm ET

I think the First Lady's sense of style is great. I just wish I could afford J Crew. There are still only a small portion of women who 1) can afford a $300 sweater and 2) would jump so quick to spend that kind of money on a sweater. I'm sure Michele Obama would be the first to encourage those women to put their money to better use.

Bill_ MA   April 3rd, 2009 9:31 pm ET

Who really cares what De la Renta thinks?

Kimberly Rossiter   April 3rd, 2009 9:29 pm ET

I think Mrs. Obama's clothing selection is right for these economic times. This is not a time for high fashion and overindulgence, it is a time to get back to the basics. Frankly, I didn't notice what designer she was or was not wearing, all I noticed was that she looked great.

BCN   April 3rd, 2009 9:28 pm ET

First it's "don't touch the queen!", now it's "don't wear a sweater to Buckingham Palace". The Obamas are about change, folks – get with the program!

Kathleen McShane   April 3rd, 2009 9:28 pm ET

With all the multiple problems facing the US, what a colossal waste of time even commenting on what Mrs. Obama wears. How is this worthy of any press? Let's focus on the real issues, not the fashion "faux pas" of the First Lady.

serah   April 3rd, 2009 9:26 pm ET

I think Michelle is going for affordable fashion it is hard right now. It would draw more criticism if she went for relatively costly fashions when economy is bad. She is also just wearing what she loves and what she has been wearing before she became first lady.

Charlie in Maine   April 3rd, 2009 9:25 pm ET

Hey Oscar, I love the clothes you make. I have one of your ties and it is great. But when it comes to dimplomacy let me ask you a simple question:
When was the last time the Queen of England gave you a hug?

I thought so. So lets keep the second guessing to a minimum and not make a big deal about what she is wearing. Think about her like you are a citizen of the world and forget about fashion for a moment.

Lynn   April 3rd, 2009 9:25 pm ET

Does it really matter what Michelle Obama is wearing? Aren't the issues more important?!?! I think she is doing what she wants to do – wearing normal clothes and not wasting her time trying to appease these whiney designers when there are much more important issues to deal with.

zelda   April 3rd, 2009 9:22 pm ET

I like what the First Lady wears-I do not like her husband or their politics but I think see looks great.

I love Mishi Obama   April 3rd, 2009 9:22 pm ET

Ocar, why don't you shove your stupid comment up your own Renta.

Mishi Obama is a practical woman of the wold, she does not need to go jet setting around the world in over priced fashions. We've already seen that story played out on the world stage. Michelle Obama steps to the beat of her own drum not yours.

who cares what you think anyway? opulance is out dated and shameful to promote in this downward economy. Stop thinking about yourself and what money isn't showing up in your bank account. It's time to start giving the little guy a leg up.

ga girl   April 3rd, 2009 9:20 pm ET

Why can't a sweater be worn to Buckingham Palace; did you not see who The First Lady was standing next to and what she had on? Michelle could've shown up in jeans and still looked better than the queen. Mrs. Obama is a young woman and doesn't have to wear those old frumpy-looking clothes like the queen. She looked just fine and who made Oscar the fashion police? Those old designer clothes look no better than J. Crew - it's a mind thing just to get people's money - because those clothes are definitely not worth the price. The $6,000 get up Sarkozy's wife had on looked like a plain old outfit that came from Macy's. There was nothing pretty about it. All I can say when she paid that much for it, she for her change!

miss fritz   April 3rd, 2009 9:19 pm ET

Really? Come on Oscar. Please. She looked great. What the heck is wrong here? are we getting so that this is the most pressing thing on our minds? Dang.

Charlene   April 3rd, 2009 9:19 pm ET

Our First Lady can wear whatever she wants to...leave her alone.

Oscar   April 3rd, 2009 9:19 pm ET

Who cares what this idiot has to say about what Michelle Obama "should" be wearing.

I say line the fashion designers up against the wall and... well, you get the point.

jen   April 3rd, 2009 9:18 pm ET

Sounds like Oscar is asking first lady for a bail out of his own.

Elvia   April 3rd, 2009 9:14 pm ET

First Lady Michelle Obama – To the world you look marvelous dahlin!!! Even if it is not an Oscar de la Renta or some other uppty designer outfit. The majority of the world does not dress in designer clothing and still look good. We do not have to walk to the beat of Designers and their take of what is in or not. We have sense enough to know what looks fabulous, right for the appropriate occassion and we also know better that we don't have to be thin stick to be fashionable. Thought I'd throw that one in.

Women and their own sense of what is acceptable or non acceptable to one's self are the true designers of Fashion.

L in CA   April 3rd, 2009 9:14 pm ET

Oscar and flip his wrists and have a hissy fit if he chooses, but who really cares? Not the majority of us who can't touch the prices of his precious creations.

sprkl12000   April 3rd, 2009 9:11 pm ET

I thought Michelle looked fine the entire trip...Oscar is probably just a little p.o'd because she didn't wear his stuff...if she would have been wearing high line expensive fashions, folks would complain that she had no regard to the financial crisis people are having and is flaunting her wealth...

laurie   April 3rd, 2009 9:10 pm ET

Give me a break, Michelle Obama looks great in everything, which proves you do not have to spend designer $$ to look great! To Oscar de la Renta – maybe those days are over, get with the program.

Steven Zhang   April 3rd, 2009 9:06 pm ET

who cares?

muzik   April 3rd, 2009 9:04 pm ET

Oscar de la Renta is right. What was Michelle Obama thinking, when she wore a sweater to the Palace?? I thought the same thing. She should have dressed more respectfully for the Queen, and m ore formally. Just because she is casual, doesn't mean everyone in the world is casual.

Doug Brendel   April 3rd, 2009 9:03 pm ET

A sweater to see the Queen! It's perfect! Hooray, Michelle!

D. Kisting   April 3rd, 2009 9:03 pm ET

He's "full of crap"! That's just to put it bluntly.

Carol   April 3rd, 2009 9:02 pm ET

I was also aghast when I saw what she had on to see the Queen. Her arms should have been covered. I don't why Michelle thinks everyone wants to see either her arms or her armpits when she wears sleeveless things. So far I think her choice of fashion has not been appropriate for a First Lady on many occasions.

RutyYou   April 3rd, 2009 9:02 pm ET

Oscar de la Renra needs to get a hobby and stop his unsolicited opinion. No one cares what he thinks. Michelle Obama is a class act.

Graham Miller   April 3rd, 2009 9:01 pm ET

Yes, shame on Mrs. Obama for not wearing pointlessly lavish and expensive clothing during an economic recession. It's so damaging for the economy when the first lady wears clothes a middle class person may actually be able to afford and causes a dramatic increase in sales among the most important group in our economy.

I certainly hope this has a negative backlash on this pompous jerk's clothing line.

kate   April 3rd, 2009 9:01 pm ET

Well, it is not like $300 is a cheap sweater! For most of us, that would be a major luxury. Please don't refer to the First Lady's wardrobe as affordable. It may be less expensive than that of others in her position, but $300 sweaters are not affordable for the majority of Americans

Rodboy   April 3rd, 2009 9:01 pm ET

Oscar, is hurting what a shame. It seems that only SNOBS can be presidential in his opinion. I am sure Abe Lincoln had an idiot in the background as well.

MountainGirl   April 3rd, 2009 8:59 pm ET

Michele Obama would look beautiful in a hemp sack. I think her choice of what to wear to meet the Queen was very fashionable. I think Oscar da Renta needs to keep his opinions to himself. Times are changing and he needs to change too. I think the Queen enjoyed meeting the Obama's.

MJ   April 3rd, 2009 8:58 pm ET

Didn't seem to offend the Queen, she looked beautiful. Get over it. I am sure if the "Palace" wanted her not to wear a sweater they would have sent her a note.

Obama '09   April 3rd, 2009 8:58 pm ET

I'd like to know what Oscar has done to make this world a better place.....*crickets*..............

k johnson   April 3rd, 2009 8:58 pm ET

Cashmere would have been ok if The Queen had invited her to Balmoral.

Simmy   April 3rd, 2009 8:57 pm ET

The Queen didn't seem offended. She (First Lady) was wonderful....It's over.

Cary   April 3rd, 2009 8:57 pm ET

Oscar is now outdated and out of style.

jdquest   April 3rd, 2009 8:57 pm ET

Mrs Obama's choices show examples of the best and most honest ways to spread the wealth around. Why should someone get an outrageous amount of money for anything when the raw materials are so affordable. There are thousands of people out there who can and do design beautiful and affordable clothing. She is setting a great example to other stylish women.

hr_demon   April 3rd, 2009 8:57 pm ET

Hey Oscar, if the Queen liked her enough to put her arm on her shoulder (which apparently is unheard of) then I would guess that Michelle made a good fashion choice.

When was the last time the Queen showed affection to someone wearing one of your outfits?

global44   April 3rd, 2009 8:56 pm ET

I think that Osar should chill a bit. I think the First Lady looked
fabulous in her esemble. You can wear a beautiful sweater to meet the Queen of England. For dinner or formal event, I am sure the First Lady would wear something what... more conservative. She is young and vibrant and I am so proud. Stuff it Oscar and make something that I would buy even on my six figure salary.

Susan Baldwin   April 3rd, 2009 8:55 pm ET

Thumbs up all the way to Mrs. Obama, she looked wonderful. I'm so sick and tired of the "fashion police" serving their own interests.

Andrea   April 3rd, 2009 8:54 pm ET

Who cares what kind of top or what brand the first lady is wearing??? It's not like she showed up in something revealing or offensive, like the tacky dresses some of these Hollywood celebrities wear nowadays. And as long as the Queen wasn't offended, then Michelle Obama should be able to wear whatever brand or style she wants.

Philip Simms   April 3rd, 2009 8:53 pm ET

What a dope. The woman is wearing affordable clothing in an effort to stay in touch with the majority. The the tiny minority that can waste large amounts of money on frivolous fashion items. The fashion industry needs to change to match people's needs, not try to encourage people to wear very expensive clothes. Form follows function, and when many people are struggling no one wants to see someone flaunt their form when they can't afford function.

Wake up before writing an article like this, or you'll be shopping at the Salvation Army soon.

Susan   April 3rd, 2009 8:53 pm ET

She looked great! Back off Oscar.

Dan   April 3rd, 2009 8:52 pm ET

Give her a break. What do you want her to do? Show up in a $5000.00 outfit with unemployment at 8.5%.

Sheri   April 3rd, 2009 8:50 pm ET

Now is precisely the time for the First Lady to continue with her fashion sense! The general public can NOT afford fashions with unbelievably high price tags. So, in a time of reordering priorities, Mrs. Obama's advisers are on point! While, de La Renta is a brilliant designer, I think he's way off mark, here.

lt   April 3rd, 2009 8:50 pm ET

I can't believe we actually think this is, in any way, shape, or form, important! We are so unbelieveably shallow!!!

a f r   April 3rd, 2009 8:44 pm ET

How ridiculous! Who is he to dictate Michelle Obama's style? She does exactly as she pleases, she is making good decisions, she looks wonderful, and most importantly . . . she is a fantastic role model. I say more power to her style and her bare arms, but WHY does anyone care anyway? Focus on the fact that she is a devoted and dedicated mother, that she has warmth enough to inspire a spontaneous gesture from Queen Elizabeth, that she shows herself genuine and heartfelt when speaking to young girls, that she has arranged for an organic garden on the White House lawn, that she is completely comfortable in her own skin and her own person. With all of this, who cares–WHO?–about what Oscar de la Renta would prefer she wear!

susie   April 3rd, 2009 8:44 pm ET

I wish I could afford a $300 cardigan, but with the extra $13.00, stimulus a week, in my paycheck, it will take me a lifetime to buy it!

Bay Area Urban Professional   April 3rd, 2009 8:43 pm ET

What planet does Oscar de la Renta live on, anyway? I am outraged by his comments about Mrs. Obama's wardrobe. Americans are working hard and struggling everywhere. Mr. de la Renta's comments are very inappropriate and reflect poorly on the fashion industry. Many people already believe that this particular industry is extremely elitist and shallow, and he is not helping. No disrespect to the Queen of England, but she is mortal just like the rest of us, no better, no worse. The amount of money one spends on clothes, make-up, and accessories does not reflect his/her value to society. The Obamas are emphasizing values such as the importance of family, education, and equality. Success should result from working hard and having a positive attitude, with the belief that anything is possible. Mr. de la Renta obviously prefers to live in the past, and be subject to arcane beliefs that are quickly fading. Wake up!!

A Virginian   April 3rd, 2009 8:43 pm ET

I feel that Michelle looks great, and as for Mr De la Renta don't you think your dressing enough stars.

Mike from Shelburne VT   April 3rd, 2009 8:43 pm ET

Michelle Obama's Fashion has been a bigger deal than the entire G-20 so far...getting a little sick of it. Maybe talk about what she's doing for once, not whats she's wearing? Is it really that big a deal that an entire article has to talk about her wearing a sweater? The Obama's are pretty much celebrity's, and its good that they're being much more open than the Bush years, but this is getting ridiculous that so much of the medias attention has to be focused her outfit.

Sally   April 3rd, 2009 8:42 pm ET

Sour grapes from Mr. De la Renta! If the fashion industry is currently struggling, it's because designers like Mr. De la Renta have not come to terms with the economic realities facing Americans and adapted their clothing lines accordingly.

I find even $300 for a J. Crew sweater to be a lot. So I would be apalled if – at this time when the President has called for all Americans to make sacrifices – Mrs. Obama were to show up anywhere in a $30,000 Oscar de la Renta outfit.

Ilene   April 3rd, 2009 8:42 pm ET

Why should Michelle change her style and pretend to be something she is not. We've had enough of that already, and I believe Hollywood already wears plenty of fashion that people copy. The car industry is flailing too. Does that mean she should go out and buy one of every type of car to help.

She's the classiest Lady and best role model for women in a long time.

proud army navy mom   April 3rd, 2009 8:42 pm ET

the first lady is lovey and is doing fine,. sometimes people need to keep their unsolicited opinions to themselves.

A. Darton   April 3rd, 2009 8:42 pm ET

To this Oscar De la Renta fellow take his tough words and stick them where the sun don't shine. Mrs. Obama can wear what she wants to wear, it is not her job to fix the fashion industry. There is always another way for Oscar to have handle this matter, he could have written the First Lady and voice his concerns about the fashion industry, and how much it would help the fashion industry if she were to consider wearing some other designers. Attacking the First Lady and her choice of clothes she wears won't help, as a matter of fact it shows like of class. So to heck with this la Renta dude. I love the First Lady and what she wears.

the man   April 3rd, 2009 8:41 pm ET

she is real she wears what she wants

Bill   April 3rd, 2009 8:40 pm ET

I think that's crap... I'm ready to challenge the status quo anytime, including weather to wear a sweater to see the queen!

Ridiculous

Dealt, Lisbon   April 3rd, 2009 8:39 pm ET

Did Oscar de La Renta ever get to Buckingham Palace wearing anything?

RB   April 3rd, 2009 8:38 pm ET

Does it really matter? Seems a bit petty in times like these to talk about fashion faux pas. I don't agree with many of President or First Lady Obama's views, but give her a break on wearing the sweater. Seems about as silly as the "Michelle Obama touched the Queen" articles yesterday. One of the reasons America was created was to break down the barriers between those that lead and those that are subjected to leadership. Oh my gosh...she touched the queen (actually put her arm around her in a warm gesture) and wore a sweater.

PL   April 3rd, 2009 8:38 pm ET

Personal taste is one thing.
Traditional concept of proper attire for the specific occasion should be consulted and respected. Is there no one who is expert in proper attire for official functions such as meeting the queen on hand for her, or does she consciously choose to ignore advices?
Does that tell us her personality?
I hope she learns from this experience. Afterall, she represents us the American people.

Barb   April 3rd, 2009 8:38 pm ET

Why should Michelle change her wardrobe preferance? Unlike previous First Ladies, she did not come from affluence. De la Renta needs to understand the American people like to see someone in the White House they can relate to. Who cares that she wore a sweater to visit the Queen? Did the Queen complain? Give me a break! Much to do about nothing! Personally I'm glad she isn't wearing those stuffy ol' suits we've had to see for soooo long!

Heather in Atlanta   April 3rd, 2009 8:36 pm ET

I'm glad that Mrs. Obama is buying affordable clothing. I don't want my first lady contributing to wealthy haute coutre culture. They live excessively and should learn some restraint themselves.

nwg6011   April 3rd, 2009 8:35 pm ET

Is J. Crew a publicly traded company? Because if it is, I'm buying the stock! Thanks, Michelle!

MMD   April 3rd, 2009 8:34 pm ET

I thought he was dead. I quess he needs a shout out, its alive.

A brief comment from me   April 3rd, 2009 8:34 pm ET

A $300 J. Crew cardigan is considered "mid-market?" Sure, I know there are high-end designers out there, but in this economy, in fact, even when times were better, a $300 dollar sweater is just far out of reach for most Americans. Of course Mrs. Obama has to dress the part, but to call any $300 dollar garment "mid-market" is just way off the mark.

DM   April 3rd, 2009 8:33 pm ET

I was actually angry at MYSELF for clicking on this story- honestly, who cares what Mrs. Obama wears during a private meeting?? And furthermore- who's to say that a sweater really isn't "ok". Maybe, just maybe, wearing items that are within grasp of lots of people IS the better way to go. I want to know what they discussed, not what they wore.

AML   April 3rd, 2009 8:33 pm ET

I think she looked classy. No showy, over dressed or under dressed. Mrs. Obama wore a simple classic, black and white.

sherry   April 3rd, 2009 8:33 pm ET

please.....She dresses the way she want's....Who is he to say .....
She look's grest and does'nt have to wear designer dresses....
She wear's practical clothing and doesnt have to put on airs.

Bill Shanders   April 3rd, 2009 8:32 pm ET

Oscar de la Renta needs to get over himself! The Putts is just pissed that the first lady is wearing affordable clothing and not pawning his overpriced clothing to the masses. Nothing but greed!

Russ H   April 3rd, 2009 8:32 pm ET

Oscar, please go to sleep. She will do what she needs to do for the Amercians.

inclover   April 3rd, 2009 8:32 pm ET

Mrs. Obama should attempt to save the failing fashion industry? That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Her fashion sense is a breath of fresh air...not that it matters.

Paul Brunet   April 3rd, 2009 8:29 pm ET

"faux pas " are tomorows fashion . Vive Michelle Obama.

Ray   April 3rd, 2009 8:29 pm ET

Go get him liberals let him have it. When are these people gonna learn you can't voice an opinion like that. No matter how he feels he should not be allowed to say it. He obviously doesn't know the 1st thing about fashion...

Diane   April 3rd, 2009 8:29 pm ET

Shame shame.

There is nothing wrong with the First Lady being smart and decent, instead of stupidly over the top, in her clothing choices.

I, a person who does not choose to afford brands like Oscar de la Renta, relate more to a president's wife who dresses and shops smartly instead of flamboyantly. Leave the expensive fashion to the runways, and leave our First Lady alone. She is sending a great message - that maybe money should be spent more smartly.

Carol Gray   April 3rd, 2009 8:28 pm ET

I am glad to see that we have a First Lady, Michelle Obama, that wear clothes that people with a job can afford. The American people can not find work, put food on the table and have a roof over their head. She shows that her beauty if from within...and knows that the blue collar people do not spend thousands of dollars on the type of clothes that Oscar de la Renta sells. What is wrong with shopping at J Crews and Wal-mart? People do it everyday...try to save money on everything that can keep them in homes....
Carol Gray

PS   April 3rd, 2009 8:27 pm ET

Michelle Obama is wonderful strong smart woman! she is representing all the women in the right way! I admire her. Plus her dressing sense is classy and appropriate. So I don't really care what she wears as a cardigan over some designer dress. Her role is not to upsell the fashion industry. Her role as a first lady is to partner with the president to get this country's economy and foreign policies straighened out. So stop commenting on her fashion sense- not important!

Anonymous   April 3rd, 2009 8:25 pm ET

I think it's great Michelle Obama wears J.Crew! I love J.Crew! She looks young and fresh and dresses very well. And, I applaude her for choosing brands that don't break the bank! I hope she doesn't cave into the hype!

LindaSF   April 3rd, 2009 8:23 pm ET

Mr. De La Renta speaks only for 1 percent of the population.

Ann   April 3rd, 2009 8:23 pm ET

Michelle is beautiful no matter what she wears, a $300.00 sweater or a $3000.00 one.

PK California   April 3rd, 2009 8:22 pm ET

He's just jealous that she chooses simplicity over flashy. SHE makes the clothes. The clothes don't make her!!!!!

Kaitlin   April 3rd, 2009 8:22 pm ET

All I have to say is "LOL, Oscar de la Renta!"

Get Real!!   April 3rd, 2009 8:20 pm ET

Never mind the sweater, Mrs. Obama pretty much nudged the Prince right out of the picture! The four were standing there, the Prince touched Obama's wife and pulled her to his left. She walked right in front of the Prince (blocking him from photogs) and nudged him right out of this very shot!

phoenix86   April 3rd, 2009 8:20 pm ET

Come on Oscar, she needs the sweater to cover up a tank-top.

GeorgiaPeachforObama   April 3rd, 2009 8:19 pm ET

Apparently you can and she did.

Donna   April 3rd, 2009 8:19 pm ET

Maybe Mr. De la Renta needs a reality check. A huge portion of the population of real Americans cannot afford (nor care to wear) over-priced designers. And isn't living beyond our means what precipitated this economic mess anyways?

Carlos   April 3rd, 2009 8:19 pm ET

Who cares what this person thinks. With all the things going on in the world and in the US, this merits an article? When Oscar de la Renta is hurting as bad financially as the rest of Americans and the world, then maybe we'll listen.

Scott   April 3rd, 2009 8:18 pm ET

This is not news. We finally have a President and First Lady of substance and depth. Stick to reporting news!!

Gary Jaussaud   April 3rd, 2009 8:18 pm ET

gary's comment is:

Oscar is only mad because she does not wear anything from him, He
will just need to get over it, And lets talk about the Queen that has worn
the same style clothing for over 50 years. She is hardly a fashion plate.
I think Michelle Obama does just fine, at least she pulls things off
really well. After all Mr. De La Renta it is 2009 and a new World, I really
suggest you speak to the Queen about her clothes.

Oscar de la Renta is for old ladies   April 3rd, 2009 8:15 pm ET

Oscar has sour grapes and his designs are stale.

Dianne   April 3rd, 2009 8:14 pm ET

In applaud Michele Obama for her choice in wearing J.Crew. But, I can't afford a $300 cardigan.

jay   April 3rd, 2009 8:14 pm ET

Oh he should get lost. How many people can afford their 5k -25k clothes. it's not if MO wears any of their clothes they will fly of the shelves.

No Hillary = No Obama   April 3rd, 2009 8:14 pm ET

The Obama's don't care about some rich old white lady. Had this been an African Queen instead of the English Queen – then maybe they would have shown more regard.

River70   April 3rd, 2009 8:12 pm ET

Can't we talk about something of importance. Michelle has the right to wear what she wants and btw, why should she look dowdy like most of the others?

strong   April 3rd, 2009 8:12 pm ET

What's the matter with the sweater? It looks nice, even on Michelle.

If anything, the Queen should spruce up her wardrobe. It has always been dull, boring and dowdy.

Anonymous   April 3rd, 2009 8:11 pm ET

Oscar De La Renta has to get a grip. Economy is hurting. To bad that not everyone can afford his clothing line. Obama's represent the world. Not the fashion world.

Nicole l   April 3rd, 2009 8:11 pm ET

I understand this is a global economy, but I am excited that Michelle Obama is focusing in our economy. No one is asking the wives of other leaders what they are wearing. Go Michelle put America on the world’s map for fashion. Oscar de la Renta needs to accept Michelle Obama’s choices. She is creating a new trend. She dances to her own tune and that is what makes her unique. A true woman of the 21st century.

annick   April 3rd, 2009 8:09 pm ET

No Oscar , you don't understang. It is time for change. No more dressing as usual. Go and take care of ms Sarkozy and leave Michelle alone. She is just herself and she rocks!!!

Recessionista NY   April 3rd, 2009 8:09 pm ET

I read that WWD article this afternoon. The whole thing reads like Sour Grapes. I think the First Lady was a lovely representative inside and out in England and at the G20 events (and now on to France). I love that she wears and supports young American designers. Perhaps Mr. De La Renta should take a clue from Mrs. Obama and not the other way around. She is in touch with the times and the people (and I am a lot more interested in what is on her mind then on her back). God Bless American and God Save the Queen.

mrs b   April 3rd, 2009 8:09 pm ET

Oscar de la Renta does not understand the change that is happening here. Many women in this country consider even J Crew as not affordable. Come on designers – she is lovely. As a woman who chould not begin to afford Oscar de la Renta, I appreciate her message. I doubt the queen minded the sweater.

Laura   April 3rd, 2009 8:09 pm ET

The Queen didn't mind at all, even put her arm around Mrs. Obama in a rare display of affection. The Queen is the hostess at Buckingham Palace, not Mr. de la Renta. If the Queen doesn't care, with all due respect I think Mr. de la Renta should keep his mouth shut.

ERP   April 3rd, 2009 8:08 pm ET

Contrary to Mr. de la Renta's sour grapes on stuffy fashion taste, I say three cheers for a truly classy, authentic American first lady who showed genuine warm respect towards another classy lady, while at the same time not bowing to dépassé old world royalty.

Kevin   April 3rd, 2009 8:06 pm ET

Her Majesty didn't seem to mind. Why should Mr de la Renta?

Greg   April 3rd, 2009 8:06 pm ET

Read the rest of the story. Oscar is jealous!!!!!! Just ask the First Lady to wear some of your clothes idiot. But you probably have screwed that up now.

Don B.   April 3rd, 2009 8:05 pm ET

Oscar, you do better during Republican administrations. Mrs. Obama, like her husband, does not care about just following the same old rules. Step out of the light Oscar! Your time has come and gone.

dave   April 3rd, 2009 8:05 pm ET

fashion? FASHION? The world goes to heck in a hand basket, and we are worried about what we are wearing? "Does my life jacket match my skirt?" said the dimwit on the Titanic... Surely, we can find something of more import to consider, like how to deal with a rising "rest of the world", rather than spend energy discussing which outfits are most appropriate. what a total non-story, waste of time.

Judy   April 3rd, 2009 8:05 pm ET

Sounds like sour grapes to me, De la Renta!

chandler   April 3rd, 2009 8:04 pm ET

Oscar, you are so old, you probably helped dress the Pharohs when they were being placed in their tombs. You are not relevant anymore. Jackie's gone,so get over it. Michelle is current and hot and you are not!

linda   April 3rd, 2009 8:04 pm ET

When Mr. De la Renta starts designing affordable clothing for struggling Americans, maybe Michelle will start wearing "designer" clothing. She is an elegant and positive role model. I wouldn't be surprised if the Queen bought one of those J. Crew cardigans online and has it stashed in her closet.....

magella   April 3rd, 2009 8:04 pm ET

Sure, Oscar. And you and your fashions are relevant how?

Mrs. Obama is already being scrutinized for everything she does. The last thing she needs is to be lambasted for wearing expensive clothes (like yours) during a recession.

B   April 3rd, 2009 8:03 pm ET

Michelle Obama looks great. I'm more worried about that pink sack that her Highness is wearing.

Michael   April 3rd, 2009 8:02 pm ET

Maybe if O-d-la-R actually designed fashion for typical Americans (and I know he has clothes in the mall stores, but his primary and strongest claim-to-fame is high end celebrity style clothes) then he would have some reason to be critical; but until then, shut up.

Mrs. Obama has not just now started buying/wearing mainstream middle American fashions such as the J Crew line (although I don't think too many 'girls next door' are purchasing the $300 sweater from the other day or the $75 gloves she wore at the Inauguation); this is not just a political image thing – it's just herself being a down-to-earth sensible worman.

Maybe with this kind of mentality being demonstrated we can stop being so consumed with the labels we wear and paying exhorbant prices for them and start spending those resources on more practical and longlasting things.

Deb in Colorado   April 3rd, 2009 8:02 pm ET

Oscar de la Renta needs to get a life. Not everyone thinks clothes have to cost thousands to be stylish. There was nothing wrong with the First Lady's attire to meet the Queen. Is he pouting because she wasn't wearing something of his?

crumudgeon   April 3rd, 2009 8:02 pm ET

oh please...all the more respect for M.O. that the's 'regular' and doesn't concern herself with saving "the flailing fashion industry". Maybe it's failing because it should.

ray ray   April 3rd, 2009 8:02 pm ET

Honestly – I have always been proud of my country..... until now.

Once reputable news outlets fall over themselves getting tingly over the Obamas. What's she wearing??? His speech was magnificent!! The world loves us again!!

The media has so lovingly (and blindly) embraced the Obamas, they have a vested interest in the Obama's success.

Once a government watchdog, the media is now the White House guard dog.

Eve McGovern   April 3rd, 2009 8:00 pm ET

Give the poor woman a break. I am glad that she does what she wants , and does not try to impress anybody.

Cindy   April 3rd, 2009 8:00 pm ET

No doubt the high priced designers are hurting because of the economic bubble burst. No doubt makers of private jets are hurting too. Perhaps Oscar and Co needs to retool, like the car industry. Make a more affordable line, and Michelle may opt to wear that line, as well as J Crew.

Think about it.

cheryl   April 3rd, 2009 7:59 pm ET

To each their own, For the most part I love Michelle's choice of clothes. If it turns out that J. Crew is making money hand over fist, then so be it.

Machiavelli, Baton Rouge, LA   April 3rd, 2009 7:59 pm ET

Sounds like Oscar is trying to pick up a little business!!!

aware   April 3rd, 2009 7:59 pm ET

Michelle has nice arms but she is short waisted and broad hipped so nothing much looks great on her! :)

Jennifer Boyd   April 3rd, 2009 7:59 pm ET

She looks great in the cardigan over her dress. And why cannot American fashion industry have a booost during this tough time.

BKrause   April 3rd, 2009 7:59 pm ET

You do, now, Oscar.

Renata Nicole   April 3rd, 2009 7:58 pm ET

I think it is so dumb to waste time talking about the First Lady's wardrobe on major news. Why not leave that up for those flaky people writing fashion magazines. The are a lot more important stories to be reporting on. I don't give a rats butt if Mrs. Obama comes outside in a sack cloth, that does not make her less of a person. Why doesn't the media spend that much time talking about the suit Mr. Obama wears or his shoes. Mrs. Obama is more than her clothes!

Jack   April 3rd, 2009 7:58 pm ET

Mr. De La Renta is an arrogant, envious, boorish, fool. Ms. Obama can certainly wear whatever she deems appropriate. To hell with cry-baby fashion designers.

Michael   April 3rd, 2009 7:58 pm ET

Oh my god. Stop the presses.

sunnydee   April 3rd, 2009 7:57 pm ET

J. Crew and other retailers like them deserve as much publicity from Michele Obama's closet as the higher end fashion designers. Maybe someone should do a little digging as to where these "american" designs (high or low end) are manufactured and then support those who are supporting the american worker?

BJK   April 3rd, 2009 7:57 pm ET

When will she learn to play it safe with stretch polyester slacks like Laura???

dumbocrat alert   April 3rd, 2009 7:56 pm ET

please explain what the attraction for this woman is!!!...i give her a 3 for that and a 10 for drama queen.

Cali4nia   April 3rd, 2009 7:56 pm ET

Oscar de la Renta can stuff it. His opinions have been valued for far too long and he's becoming more and more irrelevant in today's Gen Y leaning society.

Patty in the CA mountains   April 3rd, 2009 7:56 pm ET

and I'll bet Oscar wouldn't be complaining if Mrs O was going in his direction.....

Linda32   April 3rd, 2009 7:55 pm ET

Sounds like de la Renta is jealous that the First Lady has not chosen any of his designs. He's kinda ,missing the point, so oh well.

Michelle Obama looked beautiful, the Queen was comfortable with her, and we loved it!

Patty in the CA mountains   April 3rd, 2009 7:55 pm ET

I'll bet J Crew isn't upset about what she wears....their sales are through the roof....

paul   April 3rd, 2009 7:53 pm ET

I have to disagree with Mr De La Renta on the issue of Mrs. Obama's wardrobe choices. I think she looked beautiful that day. Everything worked from pearls to the hair to the sweater and dress combo. I think she is definitely trying to show the world that no matter how far up on the world stage she goes, she is still a simple woman with simple tastes. She is one of us.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   April 3rd, 2009 7:53 pm ET

What Michelle wears is what we "freedom of choice", not Oscar de la Renta.

Jimmy the Greek   April 3rd, 2009 7:53 pm ET

How desperate are women who, like sheep, herd themselves to the store just to buy what Michelle is wearing? Or buy the latest Oprah required reading?

What a sad country.

sensi johnson   April 3rd, 2009 7:53 pm ET

Oscar should shut up! He and others like him had no intentions of ever allowing hard working and less-fortunate folks to down thier apparels. Now that the table is turning he wants to be a critique?
Maybe when he and his friends decide to design clothes that everyday people can afford, then maybe, just maybe, the ordinary Michelle O' will give him a TRY.

Jeff Spangler, Arlington, VA   April 3rd, 2009 7:52 pm ET

I'm an Old School '60s kind of Amish dude who has no use for folks who waste their time and money on the exotic creations of European poof designers, or even $300 sweaters for that matter. Comrades should adopt "Chairman Mao Chic" and work on substance rather than surface.

TED   April 3rd, 2009 7:52 pm ET

Supporting spenditure of excessive amounts of money into the high fashion industry, a bastion of unnecessary and very expensive luxury items, at a time where the countries theme is "smart spending," is hardly what could be termed a "good idea." Besides, way to go Michelle for encouraging middle and lower classes with avoidance of flaunting her position via such luxury items. Average American families really do not need another reminder of this country's economic class divide.

Peggy - TX   April 3rd, 2009 7:51 pm ET

Michelle Obama's fashion choices are just fine. Maybe she was a bit cold and felt more comfortable in a sweater. I suspect she deliberately dressed modestly for the occasion – little adornment and her colors were black and white. Maybe she did not want to out shine the Queen who looked splendid in her pink outfit next to Michelle. The manner in which Michelle exerts humility with out be self effacing is admirable.

I think Michelle is too confident to follow Oscar Dde La Renta 's arbitrary rules of the day on fashion. Frankly, it would behoove be in Oscar Dde La Renta’s to take his que from Michelle and change his approach to fashion design by providing what women want, rather then dictate to women what they should wear. He would do well to target a wider market with fun, tasteful clothes rather then try to allure only those who are so insecure that they feel they have to dress in very expensive clothes. Dressing in clothes that could feed a family of five for week is just the not appropriate in bad economic times.

jim carroll internetfreepress.com   April 3rd, 2009 7:51 pm ET

Obama got it right at G20 because he believes in The Philosophy of Mixturism. Businesses and Governments working together to meet
the needs and desires of all the people. He is the Great One.

Really... I mean, maybe Michelle Obama realizes how insane it is to be sporting insanely priced dresses and clothing in an effort to not show off that they have more money than the majority of Americans?

How much more of a slap in the face would it be if she started wearing clothes that cost more than the unemployment checks for a year of a regular American.

Good for Michelle Obama.

La Luna   April 3rd, 2009 7:50 pm ET

Oscar de la Renta is right on! MO is unsofisticated and it shows! What she wore to meet the Queen was inappropriate and way too casual. She has no fashion sense whatsoever.

ajaye   April 3rd, 2009 7:49 pm ET

First of all, Oscar needs to take a chill pill. He seems to be the only person bothered by what Mrs. Obama had on. I don't think the Queen cared one bit. We always tend to place too much emphasis on the things that don't really matter!

Honest Abe   April 3rd, 2009 7:49 pm ET

Sound quite JEALOUS Mr. DeLa Renta !!! Personally, I don't like his style either (esp. the $$$). Hollywood made him successful. Stars wear it and... all the 'sheep' buy it ('sheep' rich unpopular people who want to show everyone they are rich – or who feel like they'll look like a movie star). They're twisted in the head like Oscar.

just bob   April 3rd, 2009 7:48 pm ET

Thank goodness there aren't any important issues in the world today. Now we all have enough time and resources to spend worrying about what the First Lady is wearing.

What passes for news these days would make Edward R. Morrow want to kill himself.

She looks perfectly fine. It's materialistic people like Oscar de la Renta that doesn't realize... it's what's inside a person that matters, not particularly the clothes they were.

Tina   April 3rd, 2009 7:46 pm ET

Oh please, is this serious? By all means, if Michelle Obama showed up at Buckingham Palace in a bikini with thigh-highs and a feather boa, let's all twitter all day long about her impropriety. But it looks to me like she's wearing completely normal, respectful, conservative clothes.

And -dies laughing at the suggestion that a leader modeling extravagant spending is what we need- A three hundred dollar sweater is considered slumming it?

pipe down oscar; about time fashion went into the "affordable" column. 95% of the world's clothes are purchased there.

gail   April 3rd, 2009 7:45 pm ET

Mr. de la Renta needs to realize that Mrs. Obama is wearing what she likes and wht she feels comfortable in. The designers that she is featuring in Europe are the same designers that dressed her in America before she was the President's wife. Also, I do not think wearing high end , expensive fashion like de la Renta is the right message during a global recession. Mrs. Obama has looked confident and radiant in everything she has worn including her sweater that she wore to meet the Queen which was a nod to modesty which was evident when she later took it off for the evening festivities. Practical is what she is. Sound like sour grapes from Mr. de la Renta and his clothes aren't all that fabulous anyway. I hope she never wears anything from him.

Emma, San Jose   April 3rd, 2009 7:45 pm ET

Michelle can be forgiven any fashion criticism because she is a substantive woman who need not dress to please.

Adam G.   April 3rd, 2009 7:44 pm ET

Oh,wait... no one cares what a fashion designer thinks. These are the same people who tape feathers to stick-thin models, have them walk down a runway, and call it "fashion".

Oscar Dde La Renta can speak all he wants but I think that The First Lady is her own lady and not about to be guided by the likes of him. I think that because she wears something I do not much care for, that doesn't make it a screw up. Maybe he should stick to his own designs and not worry about getting her business.

Elenadia from NY   April 3rd, 2009 7:39 pm ET

I love the fact that Michelle Obama wears new, young designers and doesn't think that she has to be dressed bt the last century designers, e.g. Oscar De la R.enta

Andy   April 3rd, 2009 7:38 pm ET

Gee that's a really objective opinion. If I were a car manufacturer, I'd probably think the Obamas should buy more cars, too.

De la Renta should also give us all of the protocol he has learned regarding the reach around.

John   April 3rd, 2009 7:34 pm ET

De la Renta said “American fashion right now is struggling.”

This is 100% true. Textile industry of North Carolina has collapsed.

Textile industry on North Carolina needs a bailout more than AIG and the Auto industry.

Adam P.   April 3rd, 2009 7:32 pm ET

Can we get off the subject of Michelle Obama's fashion choices? No one cares. It does nothing but distract the country from real news stories that they SHOULD know about. America's problems have no sense of fashion, and they couldn't care less if she was wearing an evening gown or a bathrobe. I am now dumber for knowing Oscar de la Renta doesn't like her fashion, and the rest of America is too.

I understand she's trying to reflect everyday Americans with her fashion choices. But De La Renta is right: even everyday Americans know better, and can manage to find something better to wear when visiting the Royal Palace.

FreeNLovIT   April 3rd, 2009 7:25 pm ET

Yeah, I think she needed to be in a suit!

MLH   April 3rd, 2009 7:25 pm ET
