Palin spokeswoman attacks Levi Johnston's 'lies'

(CNN) - A Palin family spokeswoman Monday is continuing to push back against recent claims from Levi Johnston, saying the former fiancé of Bristol Palin told an outright "lie" when he said the two were allowed to live together.

"Levi has never lived under the same roof as Bristol or any of the Palins," Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton told CNN.

In an interview that aired in full Monday on the Tyra Banks Show, Johnston said he moved in to the Palin household shortly before the birth of son Tripp last December.

"I just wanted to be there for her when she had the baby," Johnston said, adding the two were allowed to share a room.

"Do you really think the governor and Todd would have allowed that," Stapleton said in an e-mail.

In a statement released late last Friday, Stapelton was also sharply critical of Johnston for appearing on the show.

"We're disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship," Stapleton said. "It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the well-being of the child."

But in the interview with Tyra Banks, Johnston said was driven to "break his silence" after reading several news reports that were "not true."

"I have seen a lot of stuff, read a lot of things in the newspapers and news and it's time we get our story out there," he said. "I have seen a lot of stuff saying I've done steroids and drugs and cheated on Bristol and that kind of thing, and it's not true."

Johnston also described a currently chilly relationship with the Palins, saying the Alaska governor "doesn't want me around, I don't think." Johnston, and his mother Sherry, said they may go to court in an effort to be granted 50 percent custody of the child.

Johnston and Bristol Palin were thrust into the spotlight last September when Sarah Palin was chosen to be the Republican vice presidential candidate. During the GOP's national convention in Minneapolis, Palin revealed that Bristol, then 17 years old, was pregnant with Johnston's baby and the two had plans to marry.

The Alaska governor later indicated the wedding would occur this summer. But news surfaced last month the two had split.

Don't the Palins realize how silly this sounds? "Do you really think the governor and Todd would have allowed that," referring to them living together. They obviously already have been quite intimate, so I think it's a little late to be worrying about their moral image. Whatever. I thought this family had their 15 minutes of fame months ago.

why would he make that up, if they never did so?

He isn't lying; it is obvious that Stapleton is. What motive would Johnston have to make up that story? On the otherhand, Sarah Palin has a lot to lose politically in terms of perceived values, if what Johnston is saying is true. It likely is. That is why "Stapelton was also sharply critical of Johnston for appearing on the show." What happened to all the protection they were offering Johnston during the campaign when they were talking him up? Suddenly they don't need him because he could potentially cause political damage?

I guess Sarah and Bristol's continuing interviews with Greta are not at all a "quest for fame, fortune, and attention," nor the Governor's reported millions for a book. They two 'had plans to marry' when it was politically expedient for Sarah. I feel sorry for them, and, frankly, I believe Levi. Why would he lie when he knows the Palins will come back with guns blazing? This is a sorry situation, and one that was avoidable had Sarah just said no to her ambitions for a year or two. We wouldn't even know her name, yet alone intimate details of her dysfunctional family life.

Apparently the Palin family is not burdened by a sense of irony.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see why the Palin's are so outraged. First, I don't doubt that he did end up moving into their home. And possibly even sharing a bedroom with Bristol. She was already pregnant with his child, so where's the scandal in them sharing a room? Also, they were engaged to be married at that point. I realize that they want to reflect their "traditional Christian values," but don't you think those were kind of blown out of the water a while ago?

I'm certainly not judging the girl for getting pregnant. These things happen every day in this world and it could have happened to any of us. But let's get over it now, shall we?

He looks like a fine upstanding young man. Perhaps he just wants to clean his name after being associated with the scumy Palins and their lies.

Are we REALLY surprised by this? It's Trooper-Gate all over again: the Palin Family is blameless and the Big-Bad-Mean Others are all liars. Sarah, get over yourself. You and your family are just as manipulative and fame seeking as Levi and his family are. Better yet, get out of your daughter's, son's and grandson's lives and let them grow up to be thinking, rational and emotionally healthy individuals.

It is funny how Palin was willing to manipulate and exploit this young man when she was running for President. They are the ones who exposed him to the media, put him in the spotlight and created the image of a loving, committed relationship between two teenagers. Now that they cannot control him, they try to destroy him. Typical hypocrisy from the Palins.

Whose exploiting who in this deal? Looks to me like the Palin clan will do and say anything to get elected into the White House. The more they talk, the worse things look. What an upstanding group of folks!

Like snow through the hourglass, these are the Alaska redneck days of our lives....
Gay marriage is a sin and should be outlawed; marriage is a sacred institution under God between two unwilling, uneducated teenagers to save political face. If only "not real America" could understand that.

I guess it's just OK for the Palin family to comment like Bristols interview with Greta Van Sustrin, I think we all knew that the wedding would be off after the election, unless McCain won. ( What a horrible thought.) At least I was sure of it. Personally I believe him. He has no political motivation.

"We're disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship,"

Sounds like he's taking a page out of the book of Gov. Palin. Isn't that what she's been doing since McCain plucked her out of obscurity?

    Why is this even news?

LOL! Did anyone notice they have a BABY??? Making a fuss now about whether or not they stayed in the same room is just so much closing the barn doors after the horses got out. I am SOOOOO relieved they are not playing out their little soap operas anywhere near the White House!

Sarah... Sarah... pardon me, but we already know you're not exactly the most truthful person in Alaska, and certainly you're no different than so many other "christians" who all think my rules are "negotiable." If you think anyone is going to believe your "disappointment," imagine how I feel about you.

I cannot express an opinion either way because it is jus plan easy to do so but only if this Sarah P had been a lot more matured than rash about the whole thing, at least these embarassment would not have been a material for National consumption...

I believe this kid, he never was rude or dissrespectful, but Palin sure fired back trying to hurt and defame him on every level...

Really shows the maturity and rationality of the Governor..

Thank God she is not our VP!!!

The Palins are lying, they allow this type of behavior to happen under their roof. Be honest about the issue, I've notice a theme with them, "It's Always Someone Else".

What is the big deal about sharing a room when evidently they shared sex organs enough to produce a offspring....so what is the Palin motto? Our kids have premarital sex but they do not shack up! Doesnt make any sense.
