Palin spokeswoman attacks Levi Johnston's 'lies'

(CNN) - A Palin family spokeswoman Monday is continuing to push back against recent claims from Levi Johnston, saying the former fiancé of Bristol Palin told an outright "lie" when he said the two were allowed to live together.

"Levi has never lived under the same roof as Bristol or any of the Palins," Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton told CNN.

In an interview that aired in full Monday on the Tyra Banks Show, Johnston said he moved in to the Palin household shortly before the birth of son Tripp last December.

"I just wanted to be there for her when she had the baby," Johnston said, adding the two were allowed to share a room.

"Do you really think the governor and Todd would have allowed that," Stapleton said in an e-mail.

In a statement released late last Friday, Stapelton was also sharply critical of Johnston for appearing on the show.

"We're disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship," Stapleton said. "It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the well-being of the child."

But in the interview with Tyra Banks, Johnston said was driven to "break his silence" after reading several news reports that were "not true."

"I have seen a lot of stuff, read a lot of things in the newspapers and news and it's time we get our story out there," he said. "I have seen a lot of stuff saying I've done steroids and drugs and cheated on Bristol and that kind of thing, and it's not true."

Johnston also described a currently chilly relationship with the Palins, saying the Alaska governor "doesn't want me around, I don't think." Johnston, and his mother Sherry, said they may go to court in an effort to be granted 50 percent custody of the child.

Johnston and Bristol Palin were thrust into the spotlight last September when Sarah Palin was chosen to be the Republican vice presidential candidate. During the GOP's national convention in Minneapolis, Palin revealed that Bristol, then 17 years old, was pregnant with Johnston's baby and the two had plans to marry.

The Alaska governor later indicated the wedding would occur this summer. But news surfaced last month the two had split.

Teen marriages don't work. Teen pregnancies based on shotgun governors meddling in their kids lives don't work. Forcing them to get married doesn't work. Sarah Palin is an idiot. I feel sorry for her grandchild.

I believe the govenor and Todd would allow their unwed teenage daughter to do anything she wanted to do, and that includes allowing her teenage boy friend to share a room with their daughter. Afterall, the cow's already been let out of the barn, so to speak.

The Palin's toted him around on their hip for the cameras when it was convenient for them to do so, why can't he take advantage of the media now also? It was never necessary for the Palin's to comment on their teenage daughter's personal life in the first place. To call this young man names for telling his story after they blabbed all his business is hypocritical.

That was a good interview and I beleive every word Levi said.

There family had no gain in coming on TV and telling the truth.

Now Sarah Palin is attacking an 18 year old boy! It absolutely amazes me what she will do to cling to her 15 minutes.

I suspect Levi has more integrity than the Tina Fey look alike.

I say let's get the whole clan together on the Jerry Springer Show and let them settle this once and for all.

You know, it's getting harder and harder to tell who is telling the truth and who's doing the 'spin control'

Who knows what the truth is in the Palin household!! Scandal follows them everywhere they go and they create a lot of it themselves.

Guy comes out and tells the truth, then he's sharply criticized for it by the politcal powers that be. I wouldn't believe Stapleton for a second!

Absolutely hilarious that this spokesperson and Palin would call Levi a liar...it's the pot calling the kettle black as far as I can tell! Hey, at least he's doing what republicans do best...guess he's learned quite well while in their presence.

This is nothing more than a "he said, she said" between the two and Gov. Palin. I am amazed that the media continue to report on every little thing that they do and say. Governor Palin needs to go back to work and serve the people of Alaska because all this is doing reinforcing the fact that she is not qualified for the national ticket. Period!

For anyone who wants to criticize this boy and his family, Bristol Palin gave an interview to Fox. You can't have it both ways. I happen to think all of them should shut up; however, my sympathies are more with the Johnstons who it appears are being kept from the baby after having been used for reasons of political expediency.

Typical Palin response, deny, attack, distort, play the victim. What a wienie.

How convenient, the family "spokesperson" attempts to discredit this young man. Let's hear the rebuttal directly from the horse's mouth....whiney, twist the truth, can't speak in coherent sentences, Sarah!

Let's get this straight. Spokesperson Meg Stapleton has been caught in multiple campaign lies as Palin's official spokesperson....and during the campaign Gov. Palin stated multiple lies in reverence to Alaska, her performance as governor, and during her campaign; however, it's all lies when Levi speaks out. Well, I wouldn't expect anything different from them all.

    Levi,

Maintain some dignity and get away from this circus. Join the military and serve your country for a while. They will be hard pressed to continue commenting on a soldier in order to further their own agenda.

so what if he lived with the Palins, is that going to change anyone's perception of the situation. They were all putting on a show for the public, everything came out in the light and they hate that. But who cares...its boring.

Seems to me Levi has a lot less motivation to lie than Palin does... just sayin'.

For what its worth I believe both families profited from the baby pictures, so for the Palins to criticize this young kid just seems hipocritical.

Does anyone really care about these people?
Palin is nothing more then a pathetic footnight in history and she and her camp are the ones that are constantly putting themselves out their for publicity.
It seems once this bunch was allowed out of Alaska they just refuse to go back and stay there... where they belong.

The Paling campaign comes off looking like bullies in this situation. To me it looks like a hyper-ambitious politician attacking a knucklehead 17 year old kid. Whether he's telling the truth or not, and I get the feeling he is, he now has the full force of Sarah Palin's resources against him.
