(CNN) – Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday the Obama administration is working "around the clock" on the pirate situation off the Somali coast.
Asked at the end of a stimulus funds meeting what the United States was going to do regarding the capture of a U.S. container ship captain by Somali pirates, Biden began to speak when an aide shouted, "This way guys, out that door."
"We're not going to settle that here," Biden cut-in adding, "This is being worked on around the clock since this happened. I'm not in a position right now (to comment)."
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs gives details Thursday about the government's help with ship hijacking by pirates.
President Obama was also questioned by a reporter about the hostage situation following a meeting with U.S. homeowners about refinancing mortgages, but declined to comment publicly.
"Guys, we're talking about housing right now," the president responded when asked at the close of the event about the standoff.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs responded to news of the attacks Wednesday saying the Obama administration is "closely monitoring" the piracy crisis and "assessing a course of action to resolve this situation."
"Our top priority is the personal safety of the crew members on board," Gibbs said.
Obama / Biden / Clinton response:
"We're deeply concerned"
"We're deeply deeply concerned"
"We're really deeply concerned".
"We're really really deeply deeply concerned".
"We're talking with the international community."
"We're talking with the United Nations."
"We're deeply concerned."
"We apologize to everyone who may see the US as the agressor in this".
"We're deeply concerned".
You know if a real man like Mike Huckabee was prezdint, he's just call in Chuck Norris without spending all this time actually thinking and planning so much.
The VP and the President gave appropriate answers about the crisis. This is an ongoing situation and the FBI is involved in the negotiations. But something seriously needs to be done aboout Somalia.
Not much to talk about. Just send an amphibious patrol boat and some Navy Seal. Give the pirates an option, set the captain free and go home or hand to hand combat. Then sweep the waters, regardless.
No need to wait too much longer. The more we wait the worse we look.
Confront the Mother Ship.
Surrender or be fired upon.
Either way...Then wait the Lifeboat out.
Announcing a plans of what to do about those catived by pirates would endanger lives and it's just appauling that someone would ask such a question and expect an answer over the media.
Ok, I said it yestereday but let me repeat. We should immediately surrender, appologize for all past mistakes, and beg for forgiveness. We then need to open an investigation into why the crew of the US vessel did not immediately surrender but instead caused the man-induced-disaster-in-waiting to jump overboard and risk his life. If we do all of that, maybe, just maybe, the pirates will spare us future attacks and may talk nice about us to others in the world.
Problem solved, thank you very much.
The hijacking of cargo ships has become a very profitable scheme to obtain millions of dollars from owners and/or insurance companies.
I would never have characterized myself as skeptical until the last few years. Those rose colored glasses I wore gave me the concept that the majority of humans were honest, caring creatures but I now wonder if the crew members (or even higher-ups) are scheming with the pirates knowing the ransom is going to be paid, no one is going to be hurt, and the cargo will be on its way once payment has been made.
Is anyone following the money?
Hillary Clinton is really concerned, as you can tell by the smile on her face when she talks about it.
