Gingrich: Focus on Obama puppy 'fairly stupid'

News of the arrival of the new first puppy has already caused a partisan split between Newt Gingrich and CNN Contributor Donna Brazile.
News of the arrival of the new first puppy has already caused a partisan split between Newt Gingrich and CNN Contributor Donna Brazile.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich weighed in Sunday on news that the first family has finally settled on a new puppy for daughters Malia and Sasha.

“I hope that the girls love the dog,” Gingrich said on ABC’s “This Week.” “I hope the family – and all the pressure they’re going to be in – finds it useful. And I think that this whole thing is fairly stupid.”

The six-month-old puppy is a Portuguese water dog that the Obamas have decided to name Bo. The dog is a gift to the first family from Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, a longtime Obama political ally who also owns several dogs of the breed.

“It’s great that they have a dog. It’s great that the kids are adjusting,” Gingrich said. “And where they got it from – who cares? It’s a nice gesture on Senator Kennedy’s part to give it to them but who cares?” Gingrich added.

Perhaps it was a partisan difference, but Democratic strategist and CNN contributor Donna Brazile had kinder words for the new first puppy.

“What’s not to like about this dog?” Brazile said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union. “He’s cute. He’s adorable. But, I hope he’s potty trained,” she joked

Newt and the rest of the now-irrelevant GOP demonstrate their "being out of touch" for the world to see.

How sad that there are such unhappy people in this world that have to take time on this beautiful Easter weekend to make such a sarcastic comment about two little girls getting a puppy.
If Gingerich wants attention why doesn't he make a positive statement and see what attention he will receive. The press would be so shocked they might be afraid to print it.

Actually, Newt, it's YOU who are stupid and no one gives a rip what you think about anything!!!!!! For the rest of us, this is a delightful story, which brings a smile at times when the ways of the world and much of its evil ways cannot. Kindly keep your hateful comments to yourself and your disgusting Republican cronies!!

Gringrich would criticize Obama or anyother democrat for that matter if they could wave their hands and eliminate the massive republican national debt, make immediately Iraq a democratic government with all ethnic groups coming together and working together to solve any and all problems the country faces.

It they include Afghanistan in the mix and all the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and other terrorist would come and surrender their arms and go home to plant food crops to support all the people of the country and also elect a unified democratic government which they all would back one hundred percent.

We're out of things to attack Obama about so let's gripe about the dog.

Unfortunately, I am stuck with David Letterman's comment about this dog's pedigree when he referred to it as a "waterhead".

I agree it's no where near as important as letting Bin ladin getting away , killing thousands of Iraqis, wrecking the global economy and driving up gas prices over the past 8 years..............

"Who Cares?" what Newt Gingrich thinks about anything? He's ancient history.

I'm quite sure the former presidents had plenty of hype surrounding their pets over the course of their terms. Wasn't there 3 days of news over Bush's dog biting a reporter not too long ago? Is the Obama puppy important to how the country is run? No. Is it a pleasant thing to see such a good family welcoming a new member. Yes.

I totally agree. This country, the news outlets, and President Obama I am sure have more important things to worry about.

We have been hearing of the White House dog since the election so let's move on!!!

  20. Too True For You

"Who cares?" Newt is still singing the party line. They said "Who cares"? when they trashed any remnant of bipartisanship with hi Neocons and the win-at-all-costs Republican Revolution. They said "Who cares"? when the conservative capitalists rolled back financial regulation after regulation and led us into this mess. They said "Who cares"? when Bush repeatedly lied to America and the world about WMDs and committing American lives to a war without strategy. They said "Who cares"? when they allowed Bush to finance all of it off the budget. They said "Who cares"? when when mysteriously Cheneys firm Halliburton won no-bid contract. They said "Who cares"? when they violated ethical standards and federal laws in politicizing the judiciary. They said "Who cares"? when Bush appointed unqualified toady after toady to offices that eventually led to Katrina, the mess in the Middle East, the failed judiciary, and the financial crises. They said "Who cares"? when rabid right wing nut jobs where threatening Obama at Palin rallies. They said "Who cares"? when their 2008 VP had nothing going for her but looks and gender.

So, "Who cares"? about the Obama's dog? You set the bar so low, Newt, that even a story about the First Families dog is a heck of a lot better than any of the garbage you and your factless right legacy has been shoveling for past 25 years.

We knew this day was coming; the day when the media would be singing psalms about Obama's dog.

Why are people still interviewing losers like Newt?

What nobody cares about are his failed ideas and policies.

Can someone please tell these antiquated political hacks it's time to move on?

    Thank you.
