Gingrich: Focus on Obama puppy 'fairly stupid'

News of the arrival of the new first puppy has already caused a partisan split between Newt Gingrich and CNN Contributor Donna Brazile.
News of the arrival of the new first puppy has already caused a partisan split between Newt Gingrich and CNN Contributor Donna Brazile.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich weighed in Sunday on news that the first family has finally settled on a new puppy for daughters Malia and Sasha.

“I hope that the girls love the dog,” Gingrich said on ABC’s “This Week.” “I hope the family – and all the pressure they’re going to be in – finds it useful. And I think that this whole thing is fairly stupid.”

The six-month-old puppy is a Portuguese water dog that the Obamas have decided to name Bo. The dog is a gift to the first family from Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, a longtime Obama political ally who also owns several dogs of the breed.

“It’s great that they have a dog. It’s great that the kids are adjusting,” Gingrich said. “And where they got it from – who cares? It’s a nice gesture on Senator Kennedy’s part to give it to them but who cares?” Gingrich added.

Perhaps it was a partisan difference, but Democratic strategist and CNN contributor Donna Brazile had kinder words for the new first puppy.

“What’s not to like about this dog?” Brazile said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union. “He’s cute. He’s adorable. But, I hope he’s potty trained,” she joked

It's nice to see that Gingrich is still an imbecile after all these years. He's useless, ignorant and fat....and those are his best qualities. Keep entertaining us Newt.

Perhaps Newt has forgotten in his isolated castle in the Beltway, that a lot of people in this country are suffering. Bad news is everyday news.

The delight of two little girls in a new puppy is simply a 'smile' break from the "Parade of Horribles" that Newt and his grand ole GOP led by GWB and Cheney left us with.

Let's not forget the Newt who divorced his wife on her deathbed so that he could marry the woman he'd been having an affair with. So much for even moral superiority.

    Good grief.

I guess when Newt Gingrich isn't telling his hospitalized-with-cancer wife that he wants a divorce so he can marry a younger woman, he terrorizes puppy dogs and kittens.

Newt Gingrich– I love that his parents named him after a lizard–they must have foreseen the future–but "I think this (Newt) whole thing is fairly stupid." and "who cares."

Gingrich is definitely the Grinch who stole Christmas, or in this case, Easter. The man is truly loathsome.

Is anyone surprised by this whacko's comments to a puppy? When you think of the many faces of the GOP...Gingrich, Cheney, Limbaugh, Rove, Delay, Hastert....two things come to mind....obese and heartless.

Only one thing would keep these fringenuts happy....tax cuts for billionaires. that will solve, global warming, nuclear prolfiration, budget deficit, wars, healthcare, education etc etc...

Newt may not care anything about the new White House dog. I've got news for ya Newt... Nobody cares about what you have to say. You are irrelevant. So shut the hell up, and go crawl back under that rock with the other lowlifes, Bush, Cheney, DeLay, and the head of your party, Limbaugh.

If the G.O.P and their media didn't try to politicize everything the President does, this wouldn't be an issue

It isn't any more stupid than GIngrich, Rove, Cheney et al, from the former Bush administration (or before) saying anything they can to get in the news.
You know fellas, don't go away mad, just go away. And keep your mouths shut.

C'mon, it's the kids first puppy! I'm sure Newt hasn't been that excited since his first, second or third wife. Or the several other "ladies" he took on test drives while he was still married. Newt probably hasn't made his children so happy since he left their mothers(pl).

Wow Republicans don't even like puppies unless there's a tax cut attached to it.

    Obama got a puppy. Yay.

In other news, we are facing the most dangerous economic crisis in 80 years and the President and the news media find canines more important.

It is so sad to see that the Obama's forgot they said they would get a dog from a shelter. Millions of dogs are killed every year because there are not enough homes and people continue to go to breeders. The Obama's could have helped. I was wrong to believe in the Obamas. Lies!

Lighten up Newt. The family didn't cause this level of interest. Just be happy for them or is it too much for you?
