Obama daughters to get Portuguese water dog named 'Bo'

The president is finally fulfilling an important campaign promise - to get his daughters a new puppy now that his campaign is over.

WASHINGTON (CNN)– The frenzy over the First Dog is finally over. The Obamas are welcoming a Portuguese water dog to the White House that Sasha and Malia have named "Bo," according to two Democratic sources familiar with the secretive process.

The sources confirmed an account in Sunday's Washington Post that Sen. Edward Kennedy, who has three Portuguese water dogs, played a critical role in lining up the pup.

The puppy is set to be officially unveiled to the world on Tuesday after the Obamas host their first White House Easter egg roll on Monday.

Where are all of the negative comments from the hate-based Christian Republican Church Party. Don't you know you must find something negative about everything the Obama adminstration does.

Oh well. I hate to complain. It's probably the closest thing we're going to get to a WATCHDOG MEDIA.

Give me a break, people–where is Obama going to find a Portugeuse water dog in a shelter?? They had specific needs–hypoallergenic. Plus, water dogs look like little rasta men. It fits. ANY puppy needs a home. Yes, it would be nice to rescue a dog, but in their particular case, it probably would not have worked.

"News" doesn't have to consist of a war, economic problems, murders, and the crazies that create issues over the world – CNN is simply offering at alternative interest piece. If you don't want to know, don't read it. Personally, a small spot of sunshine like this in a world where Sunday school teachers murder young girls or pirates hold US military members hostage, is a small uplifting gift.

Now that is a big weight off of my mind! Finally the most important and indispensable piece of the administration is in place! Lets see if Bo can make better decisions than his new "master". I doubt that he can spend money as fast as big BO, but you never know. Actually the choice of puppy is appropriate since this country is drowning, maybe little Bo can rescue us all. I wonder how the official sponsor of the US feels about the choice? The Chinese after all have the Chow, I hope they aren't too offended, or they might stop paying our bills or even evict us from their land, you know, America land of the blind, home of the hopelessly indebted. I, of course, am happy for the girls, a puppy is great for a kid, and I hope they appreciate that there are a lot of kids who have had to give up their pets as a result of failed government policies and out of control greed.

Shelter dog fanatics: Show me where Obama made a campaign promise to get a dog from a shelter.

Shelter dog fanatics: Show some objectivity about the Malia's health and I'll show you some deference else you come off just as radical as the ignorant Right.

How disappointing. There are hundred of thousands of shelter dogs that the Obamas could have adopted, sending a strong message to the American public.

But instead, they chose to foster pure-breed-fever.

This is akin to President Obama's fiscal policy - save Wall street while the clock ticks on shelter-bound homeowners.

Get a life. Volunteer your time. Quit living such a hateful, negative, existence.

Now that the obama's have finally chosen a dog (oh, I mean had their dog picked for them by an advisory panel) maybe our 'religious' president will attend church with his family today. interesting how he has not attended church once since he took office. makes you wonder if all the i'm a christian not a muslim hoopla was just a show........

All the hate and negativity regarding this is SUCH A SHAME, Have we forgotten that at the end of the day this is JUST A MAN FULFILLING A PROMISE TO HIS DAUGHTERS? How hateful can you people get! This is a family, who just happens to have a famous address, the children are JUST CHILDREN WANTING A PUPPY!!!! How hard is it to accept that. Please America/republicans get over your hate and bitterness and just leave these kids and their new dog alone instead of trying to align their simple gift with the President not doing a good job in your eyes. I always thought kids were innocent and off limits – guess that doesn't count for little Malia and Sasha simply because their dad is hated by so many.

There is absolutely no such thing as a "hypoallergenic" dog
    Absolutely positively no such thing

All of you out there whining that you couldn't get a shelter dog because of XYZ go to petfinder.com and do a search of the breed that you bought. I guarantee that you can easily find one in a shelter. Plenty of people buy fancy $1000 dogs from breeders (generally shady backyard breeders at that) and then realize they don't want to care for them. My neighbors did just that- spoiled kids who get tired of them when they are 1 yr old and no longer look like a puppy. . .
It's just a nice way for people to make excuses to buy from breeders and not even look at shelters, but its not the truth.

Interesting that people complaining about this story and are so worried that the President is not paying attention to whatever the favorite Right Gripe of the Day is have plenty of time to read these stories and post their opinions.

If humans had more respect for animals, they'd have more respect for each other.

Obama should have stuck to his promise of getting a dog out of a shelter. That was an invaluable opportunity to send a message of HOPE for animals who are waiting to die by the millions in shelters because there are not enough homes for them all. SPAY AND NEUTER your animals!

Influence of Senators, secrets kept by staffers, political implications of any given breed... my oh my, sometimes being President seem to border on the ridiculous. Do you think General Washington was treated that way? What has become of our Republic if the President, his family, the cabinet level postions, even the staff are treated that way?

These people are elected BY us, they work FOR us, they are paid by OUR money and they can (and should) be removed at the drop of a hat. They have a JOB to do and should be judged by (and reported on) their performance doing that job. Everything else is just the media blathering about...

White House pets have always been tracked as its part of history. For all you with your negative comments, get over it. We have elected a fine man and can be proud of that.
