Alaska lawmakers take aim at timing of Palin trip

Palin will speak at a pro-life dinner in Indiana this week.
Palin will speak at a pro-life dinner in Indiana this week.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is coming under fire from state lawmakers, including members of her own party, over her decision to spend half of the final three days of the legislative session to headline a pro-life dinner in Indiana.

"There are some concerns [in the Capitol] about the focus of our chief executive because she's taken a speaking engagement in Indiana for a 36-hour period with only 72 hours left in the legislative session," state Rep. Jay Ramras of Fairbanks told the Anchorage Daily News.

Earlier, Palin had opted to skip a number of events, including the annual Conservative Political Action conference in Washington. Her aides had cited the demands of the state's legislative session. This weekend, she defended her decision. "I'll be gone for one day. I already have been on record with lawmakers on this," she told the ADN. "I told lawmakers, you know what, 'Please, don't make me feel that I have to ask you permission, lawmakers, to leave the capital city.' "

Two thorny issues remain unresolved as the session draws to a close. Lawmakers want to accept all the stimulus money that has been offered the state, while Palin wants to reject about a third of the nearly $931 million the federal government has offered. And her controversial pick for attorney general - the outspoken Wayne Anthony Ross - has not yet been confirmed.

Haven't the Alaskan legislators figured out by now that the only one Sarah Palin cares about is Sarah Palin?

This is the start of the 2012 Presidential campaign. The State is history as far as she is concerned.

Oh, yeah, Palin is a real stable management professional. This woman is a disaster that nearly went national. It's a lot of pressure to be somewhere else when the option of becoming a national figure for the GOP is better than her Alaskan reality. Do your job Gov. Palin!

Is the kind of "leadership" the American people could expect out of a President Palin? Running off with unfinished business on the table with a passive agressive snark from her press secretary.

I guess the demands of the legislative session are not so important as she said, or is it that she realized she had lost some of her position as the moral arbitrator (or is it arbitraitor?) after it came out that not only did her daughter mess around before marraige but it occured under her own roof with her tacit agreeement? Typical radical religious rightwing idiot, I ewake up eachmorning and thank GOd that this idiot was not occupying a position anywhere near real power in our country!

Note to the residents of Alaska:
I am sure by now, most of you have figured out that your Governor, Ms. Pailin, doesn't really give a rat's culo about you. Speaking at right-wing, conservative events, keeping HERSELF in the public eye, and denying the stimulus money, which will greatly help the people of Alaska, are only two examples of her disregard for her constituents. Alaska is just a launching pad for the great (as I choke) Sarah Pailin. I feel sorry for you..........but remember, Pailin first...........state, family, yada, yada, are somewhere at the bottom of the food chain.

oooops, my bad..........I gave three examples. Probably by the end of the day, I will have over a hundred examples! Thanks, Sarah, you make this so easy.

Well she sure has her priorities straight – Career before job – but hey she'll be an excellent choice for president in 2012!!!

There she goes again abusing her power. The people of Alaska need to impeach her.

When America learns that Sarah is here for Sarah, we'll all be better off. In respect for Alaska , a super state, you are small potatoes to her now.

She isn't part of the legislative branch. She is the executive branch. Does the President stay in the White House while Congress is in session just in case he is needed?

Palin is a punch line and I am really tired of her. If the Republicans think she is the next best hope for the party then they "REALLY" have lost their way.

If Palin does make the trip to Indiana, it'll be interesting to see which of her children go with her, and what "official business" she'll say they will be on so she can charge their travel to Alaska.

She should stay home and send Levi Johnston instead.

Stay home and take care of business in the state that elected you! To put the legislative process on hold so you can start your 2012 (that's funny) run is irresponsible.

    Wake up Alaska,

She has left you all behind. Her eyes are on the White House. She's used you to get what she wants and isn't done yet. You'd be better off with Stevens as Gov. than this 'Holier-than-thou' egomaniac.

Good for Governor Palin. Either way, she will always be "darned if she does or darned if she doesn't". So you liberals here could give a care anyway. She is her own woman. As a Governor, that is the priveledge she's got! Go Away Palin bashers and look in the mirror!

God bless Palin. She's an American woman and I love her to death, but I will not vote for her for a Prez spot. She failed her first leadership rule, reigning in her daughter. I just cant trust her with 7 billion people. Please pick someone else.

You can't pay for this kind of fabulous entertainment. Its super to see Palin continue to completely disgrace herself and the Republican party. Its so much fun to watch. I predict she will be highlighting her cheap, self-serving superficiality for years to come, while she whines and fusses about press coverage exposing her hypocracy and ignorance. This should be great fun for years to come!!!

WHY is this surprising to anyone with a REAL brain?

Governor Sarah Palin is CLEARLY not serving in the "best interests" of her own state. Her constant absence is NOT going un-noticed. HOW can you govern when you are never on the JOB????

AND when you are in Alaska, you do nothing but inciting a "fight-of-words" with a teenager (Levi Johnson) in a "GOSSIP MEDIA" circus!!!

This woman is focused on her own political agenda. She's proven time and time again, her political ambition supercedes EVERYTHING!!! She does NOT care about the needs of thousands of Alaska residents, she couldn't care less. Sarah is ALL about SARAH PALIN, everyone else is just screwed!!

The very fact that she "pimped out" her own children during the campaign race is a CLEAR INDICATION of how GREEDY Sarah Palin is for political power!!

Sarah Palin WANTS to be one of the GUYS and will do everything and anything to get there, including selling out her family and the Governor's office!!

My GOD. The woman simply cannot resist an opportunity to get her face in front of people can she? Let's see, what's more important? Attending a fancy dinner to speak on an issue for which no change is going to be made any time in the near or probably even distant future- OR- be present in a legislative session during which key decisions affecting the state she's supposed to be governing will be made? I guess Sarah's kind of "over" the governor thing. Alaska can take care of itself, eh? The important thing is for her to win more popularity contests so she can try her best to ruin our country's reputation again in four years.

Palin is a religious fanatic who wants to legislate morality. So explain to me why anyone is surprised by her priorities. However, today's technology makes it possible for anyone to work and communicate from practically anywhere. I see no reason that she cannot keep up with what's happening in Alaska while she's away. Indiana isn't beyond our universe. Neither is Alaska. Lighten up.
