Alaska lawmakers take aim at timing of Palin trip

Palin will speak at a pro-life dinner in Indiana this week.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is coming under fire from state lawmakers, including members of her own party, over her decision to spend half of the final three days of the legislative session to headline a pro-life dinner in Indiana.

"There are some concerns [in the Capitol] about the focus of our chief executive because she's taken a speaking engagement in Indiana for a 36-hour period with only 72 hours left in the legislative session," state Rep. Jay Ramras of Fairbanks told the Anchorage Daily News.

Earlier, Palin had opted to skip a number of events, including the annual Conservative Political Action conference in Washington. Her aides had cited the demands of the state's legislative session. This weekend, she defended her decision. "I'll be gone for one day. I already have been on record with lawmakers on this," she told the ADN. "I told lawmakers, you know what, 'Please, don't make me feel that I have to ask you permission, lawmakers, to leave the capital city.' "

Two thorny issues remain unresolved as the session draws to a close. Lawmakers want to accept all the stimulus money that has been offered the state, while Palin wants to reject about a third of the nearly $931 million the federal government has offered. And her controversial pick for attorney general - the outspoken Wayne Anthony Ross - has not yet been confirmed.

If Palin was really worried about the massive national republican debt she would refuse all the money.

Why are her and Sanford of South Carolina accepting any of it if they are worried about the debt that last three republicans put on the American people by giving massive tax cuts to richest while invading a country half way around the world that had nothing to do with 9/11.

It is time to call it what it really is they do not want to give the poor a chance to have a decent meal, or heat, or even a place to live in a house that can keep out the weather.

It's nice to see they are finally figuring her out but heaven help the rest of us! Shame on John McCain for ever thinking putting her on the ticket. Once you have opened Pandora's box...................

They should be thankful she's out of state.
When you think about it the fact that Bush was so lazy was the one thing that kept him from screwing things up even more.

Governor Palin is only just now finding that trying to be a working public servant and an ambitious politician are imcompatible. Perhaps if she spent a little less time politicing, and a lot more time actually governing, she would build a serious reputation as an administrator that would put her in good stead for 2012. As it stands now, she is just another hack whose ambition doesn't measure up to her exerience.

  12. How did she get elected?

I think she will run for a senate seat instead of governor

You wanted her, you got her. Just get down on your knees like the rest of the country and pray she does not get re-elected. Perhaps we could just let alaska secede – it's what she really wants anyway. that way she can be queen for a day.

You go girl. Run for president in 2012. Than we can bury the disgusting, vile corrupt republican party once and for all. Yahoo.

Considering we have the most pro-abortion President EVER in office,
it's not all that horrible hearing about someone in public life who is defending the unborn!!

The whole country has John McCain to thank for this unqualifed fool~. She has done nothing but make a fool of herself and the republican party!

Sarah should stay home and get her frustration out due to Levi's battle of words, go shoot a moose or something. Right to life is a great organization but your constituents are priority one, that's why they elected her. You all know that this woman loves the spotlight and will do anything to be in it even battling Levi and his family publically. She is deserving of criticism she is the one who Paraded this boy all through the campaign.

She's the governor and she can do as she pleases at the risk of her career, but surely she must understand that making this appearance with only 72 hours left in the legislative session is going to create dissention not only in the state she's supposed to be governing but in her own political party as well. At the rate Governor Palin's going I don't see her as a viable presidential candidate for the GOP in 2012 or in any other year for that matter. She's obviously too interested in a job she doesn't currently hold and can't run for to do the job the people of Alaska elected her to do.

I can't really blame her. I mean really what ideas can she really bring over there anyway? My advice to her: sell her soul to Obama.

Why isn't this woman gone from our lives? She is the worst lawmaker I have ever seen next to W. and Cheney. Get her off the stage!

Why can't she just keep her mouth shut and disappear, she is an ignorant, ambitious woman who will take advantage of every position that she is faced with. Her family is no example to our young people in this country and she should not appear that everything is okay with the way she is raising them, maybe if she spent more time with her children instead of chasing her political ambitions her children would be better off.

Enough is enough, this country has enough problems to solve without spending time figuring what next is she going to get involved with.
