Alaska lawmakers take aim at timing of Palin trip

Palin will speak at a pro-life dinner in Indiana this week.

Palin will speak at a pro-life dinner in Indiana this week.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is coming under fire from state lawmakers, including members of her own party, over her decision to spend half of the final three days of the legislative session to headline a pro-life dinner in Indiana.

"There are some concerns [in the Capitol] about the focus of our chief executive because she's taken a speaking engagement in Indiana for a 36-hour period with only 72 hours left in the legislative session," state Rep. Jay Ramras of Fairbanks told the Anchorage Daily News.

Earlier, Palin had opted to skip a number of events, including the annual Conservative Political Action conference in Washington. Her aides had cited the demands of the state's legislative session. This weekend, she defended her decision. "I'll be gone for one day. I already have been on record with lawmakers on this," she told the ADN. "I told lawmakers, you know what, 'Please, don't make me feel that I have to ask you permission, lawmakers, to leave the capital city.' "

Two thorny issues remain unresolved as the session draws to a close. Lawmakers want to accept all the stimulus money that has been offered the state, while Palin wants to reject about a third of the nearly $931 million the federal government has offered. And her controversial pick for attorney general - the outspoken Wayne Anthony Ross - has not yet been confirmed.

Palin first, Alaska last. If Alaskans haven't figured this out by now they are doomed. Indiana sure doesn't need her and Alaska falls in the same category.

Again, when is the media going to cut the cord? Gov Palin is doing "by any means neccessary" to remain a headline item. The media should realize that she is not ever going to be President, so please let her go.

This is why her kids were able to run wild in AL. She is more concern about staying relevant in the political community, thank actually doing her job.

It can also be that all the stunts she has played are not turning out as she planned and now she has to actually work. Putting Levi out there to complete her daughter's wholesome image, well now Levi is speaking out.....Stating that she is not going to take the stimulus money, but filing the necessary papers to get it after pressure from people in her state. Then there is the little matter of criminal family members that are stealing from the same house twice. INTERESTING.

Repubs is she still the prize that you thought she was or a walking disaster/time bomb?

I am surprised about all those ranting about the governor leaving for 36 hours, when they said diddly when most of the legislature left for 10 days to visit DC IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SESSION WHEN THE GOVERNOR WANTED TO INDTRODUCE SOME NEW BILLS TO HELP ALASKANS! Unless you read more than just the lamestream media, you don't get the real picture. The governor wanted to introduce energy legislation, but the legislature complained that they did not have time for it.

To all the folks acting so astounded and dismayed that Palin is in the news again or that so many people seem to take an interest, I have a question: When was the last time YOU turned away from a hideous accident on the side of the road? This disgusting corpse is just too entertaining.

So, she uses the "demands of the state's legislative session" as an excuse to not participate in one event in Washington, but when the legislative session REALLY needs her she leaves it for a dinner in Indiana? Also

I think Sarah Palin has a lot of courage when constantly confronted with those who do not respect life. They want Palin out because they are afraid of her standing for the truth. She has a lot of common sense that most of the world doesn't understand. Most are out of touch with reality.

    Give her a break.

Bobby Jindal and Palin in 2012 the only hope the GOP has. Sarah you keep shaking it and flashing them winks babe. She has the moves and Bobby knows the countries volcano needs. What a pair Alaska and Louisana have a couple of governors who have real conservative virtues that can not be jeopardized. These states will protect there unemployed from federal money. These governors can say NO to the president. They have real republican values, they will side with all the republican senators who voted against help the amercian people. These governors stood with the senators as they voted to send billions of more dollars to Iraq. Because they are real Patriots, the ones who will send our tax dollars to foreign countries for infrastructure. While our taxpayers at home suffer from transportation, housing, energy, labor, and health needs.

This blatant and unwarranted hatred towards this woman is pitiful. The woman accepted the nominee for VP and from that moment on it has been the zealous pursuit of media and democrats to trash this woman whenever they get the chance. I am disgusted with this vendetta no matter what the Governor does to paint her in the worst possible light. This sick obsession with making sure she is somehow ridiculed at every moment is deplorable.

I'm not sure where Republicans are getting the idea that us liberals are scared of Palin! I'm praying EVERYDAY that this woman gets the 2012 Presidental GOP nomination!! There's no better way to ensure an Obama VICTORY!! She's a joke – and the nation knows it! The more she stays in the news the worse she looks!

    Please Sarah RUN RUN RUN!!

    Go Obama 2012!!

The left is not scared of Palin; she's good comedy, sort of like watching Seinfeld and seeing how they continued to screw things up and get themselves in hot water! So we watch her, cringe at her stupid remarks and wait with baited breath for the next serious faux pas! She is soooo history but we can't stop watching her antics! No one takes her seriously anymore and I am from Alaska!

Hey, liberals that fear and love to hate Palin (i.e. 100% of you), how do you explain that she has the highest approval rating for governor in the USA? Don't you think that these attacks against her just.. might... be politically motivated? What do you think about the uniter Obama being rated the most polarizing president? Enjoy your time in the sun... it won't last.

The conservative right need to understand that Palin is NOT the answer to their prayers in terms of leadership. Nothing this woman says or does seems to convince people she is capable of any government job outside of Alaska. And now, after all these excuses as to why she can't attend DC events for the people she wants to be supported by, she goes to a dinner in Indiana for pro-life despite pro-choice being the law of the land.

Governor Palin is unfortunately not qualified to be Governor . She is too busy pushing her agenda regarding birth control. The republicans would be better off without Gov. Palin on their national stage.

Last fall, Sarah Palin was the victim of the most despicable hit job in U. S. political history. Her crime? She was a pro-life woman selected as the running mate for a great patriot but unfocused and poor campaigner. I can hear the Obama team now: "She is a bigger threat than McCain. We we will just have to destroy her." And so they did. And keep on doing. It demonstrates the mean-spiritness at the heart of the Obama operation (Rahm Emanuel, David Plouffe, Robert Gibbs, and David Axelrod). Don't these gentlemen now have more important things to do?

As an Alaskan I am completely disgusted with our Governor who has completely abandoned her AK constituents (no I did not vote for her) for her ultimate dream goal of being President of the United States. Alaska needs this stimulus money and she is playing queen, saying the stimulus should replace the allocated budget $. Her incompetence and hunger for power is sickening. AK needs the stimulus money as much as any other state, and she'd rather go and play queen of sheba to the Rush Limbaugh's of this country, than to stay and do her job. Palin, your self serving agenda has not gone unnoticed, and I cannot wait until you are not longer Gov.

Wasn't this Stimulus package now to be voted on the very same one that only a few weeks ago Palin was in the press adamantly opposing and squawking about at the top of her lungs (to get the cameras attention)? Yea, way to go "hardworking and dedicated governor", show that determination to do what is best for the citizens of Alaska-run baby run!!!!!!!!
