Obama to head to Missouri to mark 100 days

Obama will return to St. Louis later this month.

(CNN) –The president is set to mark his first 100 days in office with a trip to the the bellwether state of Missouri.

While White House officials always try to downplay the importance of such things as an administration's first 100 days, President Obama will be travelling to the perennial swing state on the 100th day - next Wednesday, April 29th.

Missouri, always considered a bellwether, went for his election opponent John McCain by a narrow margin.

Obama will be holding a town hall in suburban St. Louis "where he will give a progress report on the administration and take questions from Missourians about the administration's agenda, looking forward," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced Tuesday.

In his daily briefing Tuesday, Gibbs joked it was no accident the president would be on the road that day hoping to put his own imprint on press coverage of an administration's first 100
days in office.

The 100 day mark for a new president always receives major press coverage.

"Yes, go figure that we might wan to leave town on April the 29," Gibbs said.

An estimated 100,000 people appeared at a rally for candidate Barack Obama in St. Louis two weeks before the election.

    President Obama,

You just continue to lead this country, I am so proud of you and what you have done in such a short time. Because of you my mom received additional monies on her social security check, my 2 brothers received additional on their unemployment checks. We just needed a hand up not a hand out, and you have made it happen. You continue leading this country, and don't worry about the right wing gop.
