Liz Cheney: Obama doesn't 'stand up' and defend America

(CNN) - Liz Cheney, former State Department official and daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, defended her father's string of tough comments aimed at President Obama, telling an interviewer that the former VP believes the new president is taking the nation down a "dangerous" path and that he has an "obligation to stand up."

"I think he is concerned that some of the things that we have seen President Obama do, particularly on his overseas trip in terms of not taking the opportunity to stand up and defend America when Daniel Ortega delivers a 50-minute screed against the United States [during the Summit of the Americas]," she told MSNBC in an interview that aired Thursday.

"I think that there's a real concern. I mean, the message that we saw coming out of the last few foreign trips - I mean, forget Republican and Democrat, as an American it concerns me when I have a president that doesn't stand up and say, 'Wait a minute, you know, I'm going to defend the United States of America because we are a beacon of hope for people all around the world,'" she said.

"The vice president thinks it's very important, when you see the country go down paths that are concerning and dangerous, and when you see the current administration making decisions that really do have the potential to make us less safe, in those circumstances I would say the vice president doesn't think there's an obligation to be silent - in fact, I think he believes the opposite, which is there's an obligation to stand up..." she said.

Former President Bush has said publicly that the new president deserves his silence. Cheney said her father had not sought the former president's approval for his recent comments. "He doesn't need permission," she said.

The former vice president has been increasingly vocal in his criticism of the new administration, telling CNN in an interview last month that Obama's decisions had put the country at greater risk of a terrorist attack.

The problem is we have a president who happens to be "Anti" American. Americans refused to believe this during the campaign and they still refuse to acknowledge it. Obama can fool some of the people some of the time. He can'f fool all of the people all of the time.

    He's just a fraud!

Liz Cheney is correct. The U.S. isn't perfect but is still the best country in the world and Obama is whittling away at it. Perhaps he thinks it should be more like Kenya or Indonesia.

Listen, , you and your chickenhawk daddy made the country less safe. Not Obama. Restoring our international image does not make us less safe. Adhering to the laws and principles we claim to uphold does not make us less safe.

Your daddy and Bush made the US a beacon of TORTURE for the whole world. There were people in other countries, perfectly innocent people, who were afraid to travel to the US because they could be whisked off to a secret detention facility and tortured. And they could be. And it happened, repeatedly.

If there is any justice in this world, Cheney will go to jail for war crimes.

    Liz,
You are too close to the evil one to give us anything but a biased look--that's all you see, all your psyche lets you see.

You've hopefully said enough about this; now, you should be able to feel you did right by your own family. Leave it at that, for your own sake.

There's a fine line between mannered diplomacy and defending the biggest free nation on earth. Sitting back and listening to public criticism like Ortega will eventually lead to others dong the same thing.

Bye BYE LIZ. It is nice to defend your father, but it would be better if you were both correct. Obama has made more off shore friends than you dad made offshore eneimies. That is quite an accomplishment. Sorry
Liz but your dad is a spoiled CEO and a disgrace to America. How can
I respect a war criminal? Can"t do it Liz. SORRY

Sorry, Liz. The name Cheney is now associated with corruption, torture and war. Good luck getting any credibility with what you say.

The only one whose opinion I care less about than Dick Cheney is his daughter. Being appointed to the State Department through nepotism doesn't make you an expert.

Of course he stands up for the country! He stopped North Korea and their insane leader from getting nuclear weapons! Oh wait, he didn't.

Totally disagree with her. What do that want Obama to do to other leaders beat them up. He has been a perfect gentleman. Killing them with kindness and understanding. Empowering them of sorts. But if the need to put them in their place he will. He has the backing of the US Military. So people need to chill and not be so sensitive to every issue. Think before you act. Haven't we learned anything from this President. See what the last motor mouth got us in.

"Beacon of Hope" ? Is she kidding? This typifies the cluelessness and provincial outlook of the previous administration.
Egad, if Obama had said "beacon of hope", he would have been laughed off the stage.

Liz Cheney needs to ask her father why didn't he stick up for gay rights and stop worrying about giving her useless opinon on President Obama? THEY(The GOP) are making the U.S. less safe by openly criticizing the President on the national stage so that the terrorist can see the weakness in America's unity against them. Just like her father, this chick needs to shut up!

Do we really care what his daughter has to say. I don't believe anything Cheney stands for was beneficial to the US, it just made us more hated. Can the risk be anymore higher than an actual attack which happened on her father's watch. A lot of good their belief did to prevent that. You all are "FOMER" for a reason. Go away, be quiet and let the elected officials do what you cowards were to arrogant to do and that is think about the PEOPLE.

And we care about her why? There is lots to be proud of about America. But there's lots we should be sorry for, and her dad brought most of it on. You're 15 minutes are up.

Way do the cheneys feel the need to keep opening their mouths. your father made ths country more un-safe than anything else. so please go away and stop giving your opinion because we the people with an IQ over an hundred choose not to listen to the garbage that comes out of your mouths.

And for the idiots who keep saying bush-chenney kept us safe for 7 years with their methods and illegal behaviours, well guess what, Bill clinton kept us safe, the first bush kept us safe, i mean actually, you would have to go back to 1945 to when something of the magnitude of september 11 happened in this country. to keep this country safe, no other president or vice president had to break the law or stoop to the low level bush and chenney did. go aways chenney, its time for a change in policy and ideas, you know, ones that work.
