Palin's new legal defense fund was formally unveiled Friday.

(CNN) – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, facing a string of costly ethics complaints, formally unveiled a defense fund Friday to help pay her legal fees - now surging past the half-million dollar mark.

"For Alaskans, the time has come to end the siege on our government by political tricksters. Enough is enough. With the help of reform-minded advocates from across our nation, we will stand up for what is right," said a message on the Web site for the Alaska Fund Trust.

"Your maximum contribution of $150.00 will allow the Governor, her family, and her colleagues to retire their legal debt at no cost to Alaskans and reduce the incentive for mischief by her opponents. Together, we can help Governor Palin and future elected officials turn back the tide of overtly partisan and unnecessarily personal political attacks."

Kristan Cole, a Palin ally from Wasilla, will run the fund, which she described as "one of the most restrictive and transparent legal funds in history." The group said it plans to voluntarily release the names of donors and size of their contributions.

"We have created one of the most restrictive and transparent legal funds in history," Cole said. The group has created downloadable comparisons of the group's restrictions in comparisons with other recent political legal defense funds, including those for both Clintons and former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate continues to face a steady stream of new filings - the latest just this week, over whether she used PAC funds to travel to an anti-abortion event in Indiana.

Earlier this month, a Texas businessman launched a Web site to help defray the governor's legal costs, but Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said then that the official legal defense fund could only accept money from her official fund, which had yet to launch, and encouraged Palin's supporters to direct their contributions there.

Money for Palin? Yeah, and I'm going to give my house to Donald Trump, my car to Junior Earnhardt, and all my food to Emeril. Not! Stop acting corrup, Palin, and you won't need anybody else's money.

independent   April 24th, 2009 6:19 pm ET

i dont think the alaskans are goin to stick their necks out for this woman, making alaska and its people look bad by her idiocy, WHOA HO NO!!!!! fade away palin, she should get impeached.

joe   April 24th, 2009 6:18 pm ET

So I read about sixty or seventy entries......two of them supported Mrs. Palin. And yet.....Alaskans put her in office.... ( :) ),....um, you know – fifty five million Americans voted to put this woman in office. Regardless of what anybody says on this post, nearly half of America voted to make this woman second to commander in chief. That's not scary. To put it simply; we're doomed. The fact that she was ever on a ticket proves we're doomed. I wouldn't elect this woman to the local pet shop's board of directors.

It's all over but the cryin' folks; Obama has it, Clinton had it; but Bush has done his duty, kiss the middle class goodbye.

GOPthief   April 24th, 2009 6:16 pm ET

So the women who spent several hundred thousand dollars of contributors money on shoes, clothes and wardrobe designers during the campaign wants those same morons to now pay for her legal problems which are self inflicted?
Just how stupid does she think her supporters are? Oh, that's right, they are her supporters. Answered my own question.

Alfred E. Neumann   April 24th, 2009 6:16 pm ET

The vulgarity and offensive comments by far lefties on CNN never ceases to amaze me.

A legal defense fund for a Democrat (you fill in the name) – no problem.

A legal defense fund for someone with whom you disagree with – sick postings.

Sue   April 24th, 2009 6:15 pm ET

Do any of the Professional Liberal Bloggers(PLB) know that the reason Gov. Palin needs the legal defense fund is because the liberals are filing ridiculus lawsuits over a lot of nothing! They are trying to bankrupt her and ruin her name which tells me they still fear her.
Get your facts straight, PLB's, and earn your money from ACORN, LaRaza, and Obama "honestly".

Chris James   April 24th, 2009 6:15 pm ET

Chris in Va.   April 24th, 2009 6:12 pm ET

Perhaps Mrs. Palin should have herself a good ol' ,down home, real American type exorcism to rid herself of them there politacal demons that are haunting her and causing her to say them there stupid things, ya betcha!!!!

Torin from Georgia   April 24th, 2009 6:12 pm ET

What a joke. Sarah Palin is asking the public for funds to pay her attorney's fees for the legal entanglements she has created. That is like Bernie Madoff asking the public to bail him out for the Ponzi scheme he created that led to his indictment and guilty plea. Palin is pathetic. At least Bernie Madoff finally admitted his guilt . . . . Palin has blamed everyone herself for her legal problems.

emorep   April 24th, 2009 6:12 pm ET

Face it Repubs, Palin is burnt toast! Only losers will continute to follow a loser.

Understand this Repubs (and followers), the old values of your base are simply that, OLD and getting older and gone. You're regressing instead of progressing. Meghan McCain is the face of the new Repub party. She's looking more like a centrist Repub/Democrat, so live with it. Truth is, she's a hybrid and that's a compliment.

Suzanne   April 24th, 2009 6:12 pm ET

Sarah, I hope they foreclose on your house. And way to drag young Levi through the mud. It seems you'll throw anyone to the dogs in order to protect the 'good name' of your unwed-teen-mother daughter. You are so disgusting, it hurts.

Bernard   April 24th, 2009 6:11 pm ET

I'm not sure I want Gov. Palin to go away. For absolutely no cost to myself, I get to watch somebody bungle their personal & political life on a regular basis, live in comical & woeful denial & sound an obviously false note of indignation that she should become a victim of external forces, not recognizing the chickens are coming home to roost.

So. Here's my joke for her:

Instead of asking ordinary citizens to foot her legal bill, why doesn't she ask the GOP party for their credit card, as she did when purchasing clothes for her & her family during the campaign? Such would knock off $200K.

Okay. The joke needs work. She really is the best joke herself.

william   April 24th, 2009 6:11 pm ET

a legal fund? are you kidding me? i guess sarah really does have special needs after all. all that reforming of alaska's troubled political past has caught up with her. karma is a dish best served with a side of moose.

OBAMA   April 24th, 2009 6:10 pm ET

"i can see russia from my house!" – Sarah Palin I have been to wasilla and u can't see anything – wasilla isnt even on the open ocean its on cook inlet maybe palin was seeing the other side of the inlet shes even dumber than i thought

Amanda   April 24th, 2009 6:09 pm ET

Why is she not more concerned about the article printed earlier. There is a town in Alaska that is being flooded and sunken by the melting glaciers. The effects of global warming is diminishing this little native eskimo town.
Why is she not publically speaking out about that?

The Nerve of this woman!   April 24th, 2009 6:07 pm ET

I cannot believe this woman has the audacity to ask for other people to pay for her legal fees to face charges of fraud and corruption. She is a shameless self-promoter who gives extremely "crazy", polarizing Republicans a hard on because of her so-called "religious" standing. If she cannot stand the heat and face the scrutiny that most politicians have to endure, she has no business being in it. Obviously, her actions contributed to the inquiry. ALASKANS are smarter and better than that, she may win the war on the Press because it's always good to have news of something crazy and out of this world, she does not fool the good folks across the country. Money will be better spent getting her out of office.

Stu-Florida   April 24th, 2009 6:06 pm ET

Don't do the crimes, if you can't do the time or pay for your own defense fund.
Why would the good people of Alaska have to pay these???

seabee   April 24th, 2009 6:06 pm ET

Hell, let CNN pay all of Palin's legal exspenses......they have her on their CNN editorial roll call anyway!!!! CB

OBAMA   April 24th, 2009 6:05 pm ET

every single pro palin comment i have seen has been stupid and ill informed – "do away with the security you pay for" democrats being so decisive over the last 20 years, etcetera. Come ON America are we really this stupid?

diane ca   April 24th, 2009 6:04 pm ET

what else is Palin and her family going to do? She has done enough not only to herself, but to the Johnston's with her antics. can't she just go away?

Hilary   April 24th, 2009 6:03 pm ET

Why doesn't she take her own advice and "pull herself up by the bootstraps" instead of looking for handouts from the public?

kirk   April 24th, 2009 6:03 pm ET

This from the Queen of "political tricksters" and "personal political attackers." Wow. If you could harness audacity into energy this woman could light 200 million homes for a decade.

Jessica   April 24th, 2009 5:58 pm ET

She disgusts me. Her pursuit to murder the wolves and bears of Alaska through aerial hunting and the "bombing" of wolf dens is despicable and utterly unnecessary. Please don't donate any of your hard earned money to her cause.

Donate to the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund instead.

Go to http://www.eyeonpalin.org to learn more about this heartwrenching situation in the Alaska wild.

1,067 wolves have been killed since 2003. 244 wolves have been killed this season alone. Please help if you can.

dan   April 24th, 2009 5:58 pm ET

Oh those TRICKSTERS. They have caused poor Sarah to ask for a handout. She is the poster child for the Grand Old Phony party. When "Liberals" ask for handouts it's bad. But when Republicans ask for them, it's necessary. Earmarks are awful, unless they are for a Republican Governor. Tax raises are wrong, unless you are the Republican Mayor of a city. Sex outside of marriage is a sin. Unless your mother is a Governor. Then you are noble because you didn't have an abortion. So you didn't compound a mortal sin with another mortal sin. The press is wicked, unless I need them to get publicity to get hand outs for my defense fund. And on and on.

LARRY   April 24th, 2009 5:58 pm ET

Alaska's Voice Of Reason...   April 24th, 2009 5:57 pm ET

It is plainly and simply obvious to those who live in Alaska...

Sarah Palin was elected as Governor of Alaska because everyone wanted Frank Murkowski (the past Governor) out of office and she was the lesser of two evils. She was never even remotely qualified to be Vice President and barely covers her job as Governor. She has no chance of making it to President in 2012, and anyone who votes for her needs serious mental health therapy. I bet many murky dealings will come to light after she is done, gone, and almost forgotten...

Sarah has built a nice bank account, but does not listen to the people of Alaska and has done little to make life different for those who work hard to make the State of Alaska function. Sarah needs to close that big mouth and open those little ears so she can hear the people of Alaska and the visionary ideas they offer...

Good luck in your future elections Sarah, but you lost my vote forever and I hear that from every person I live around in Alaska. We in Alaska are plain tired of government corruption and manipulation.

Here is an idea Sarah, Pay your own freakin legal bills for your own freakin legal problems. Don't create a freebie money fund open your purse strings and be responsible for your own obligations!!!

David Newport, OR   April 24th, 2009 5:56 pm ET

Miles   April 24th, 2009 5:50 pm ET

Any time a politician pulls out the Nixon defense (i.e. Palin's "We're fighting off my political enemies."), it's time for them to go! Governing is about working for the general good, and Sarah Palin seems more interested in self preservation.

PK California   April 24th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

Anyone who has money to throw away could donate to such a fund, but I would demand to see a $1 for $1 accounting on how this money is used. My gut feeling is, it come right on the heels of Levi saying he will be launching a court fight to gain a father's right to share custody of his son! HMMMMMMMMMMMM Could it be possible that this money would be used to fight him in court??????? I wouldn't give one red cent for that purpose. Giver beware!!!!!

hjs3   April 24th, 2009 5:47 pm ET

Sorry but S/P is not a person of interest in any regard. but I wish Alaskans all the best in getting rid of her. Phew!

Are there people who really are dumb enough to pay for Sarah getting caught in illegal activity? Well, as the man said, " There's one born every minute."

Sean   April 24th, 2009 5:40 pm ET

Why is Palin incapable of ever accepting or admitting any responsibility for her actions? It's always someone else's fault – political opponents up to "mischief". Give me a break. Palin is an unethical, unwise politician who has made her own bed, and maybe some day she'll actually have to lie in it.

Anthony McMahon-Illinois   April 24th, 2009 5:38 pm ET

Is she for real? "Political tricksters?" So the Alaskan legislature that held an informal trial and found she had breached her ethical obligations are "political tricksters?" I hope people understand that this lady's idea of being reform-minded is not what most reform-minded people would deem reform. Her husband has beena card carrying member of a secessonist group; she thinks it's okay to weild power as if she were royalty (which she thinks she is); and she doesn't make any decisions until the "first dude" has his say. That's ridiculous.

JV   April 24th, 2009 5:38 pm ET

lol @ a rich person with power asking us for money.

Unimpressed in Alaska   April 24th, 2009 5:38 pm ET

I live in Alaska. I live in Wasilla. I am not impressed with Sarah Palin and a lot of other Alaskans feel the same way that I do. Sarah Palin turned Wasilla into a Giant Strip Mall along a Major Highway. There is nothing picturesque about Wasilla there nothing about Wasilla for anyone to be overly proud of as far as a City goes. We are kind of like a Big Truck stop on the interstate would be in the lower 48.

Sarah is a junkyard dog that will bite at anything and then try to justify it by blaming others.

Carl   April 24th, 2009 5:37 pm ET

Doesn't she have a plane to sell on Ebay or some snow machines? Come on GOP. This is the face of your future? I used to respect people who call themselves conservatives. Two of my four groomsmen were decorated Republican Volunteers, one a Democrat and one a Green. Now we're all Dems. The GOP has jumped the shark and even as a lifelong Dem, I can say it is dangerous for our country. Entertaining yes, but dangerous.

carolflowery   April 24th, 2009 5:37 pm ET

Sarah, we are there for you:)

msukeg   April 24th, 2009 5:37 pm ET

Anybody that uses the word "trickster" gets zero donations from me. Obviously they don't have a dictionary, nor do they play with the rules that came in the box.

sfcali   April 24th, 2009 5:34 pm ET

puh-lease, if you need more money, get a second job like the rest of us.

What patriotic gains do we make by giving her money so she can pay her legal fees? Oh, is it to 'turn back the tide of overtly partisan and unnecessarily personal political attacks"? These attacks have occurred at every presidential election...even probably in any kind of election historically. It's not new. It will never go away. She makes more money than I do, she should be able to independently pay for her own things – isn't that the American way?

No Palin in 2012. She still won't be caught up and educated by that time.

spscrunch   April 24th, 2009 5:34 pm ET

Good for her! It only ruins our democratic system if we continually force people to pay for over a million dollars of frivolous complaints.

Palin has ethic complaints because of her unethical tactics. Come on Sarah, you should have been booted out long ago, pay your lawsuits with your own money. Please, just go away.

Rich   April 24th, 2009 5:28 pm ET

I'm not affiliated to any political party and yes I do vote...but a string of ethics cases doesn't magically appear out of thin air.

If she's having to pay money for a defense then the prosecution must have something concrete against her correct?

Don't donate a dime.

Ryan J. Burgess   April 24th, 2009 5:27 pm ET

Nope. Governor Palin has a lot of problems with the legal. I don't think she needs a fund to help her pay the legal bill. Gov. Palin would waste the taxpayers of Alaska pay her legal fees...

Theresa   April 24th, 2009 5:26 pm ET

Wow, these anti Sarah comments really prove just how ugly and vulgar the obama supporters are. No wonder CNN, MSNBC, NBC and all the alphabet circus acts are falling like rocks in the ratings department.

This is a one way ticket to bankruptcy for the cult member media and obama's cult members are helping them get there fast.

I remember bobo telling his cult members to get in their faces. It appears he also told them to put on their ACORN faces and attack with vulgarity. How sad his daughters were subjected to such anti-American sermons all their young lives. This man in the WH has waged war on America and all the Sarah haters can see is their hate for conservatism.

MN gal who voted for Obama   April 24th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

"the war in Iraq was a mission from God" – as said verbatim by Sarah Palin when introduced by John McCain as her running mate to America at the RNC......anyone who agrees with that statement should give her money.......

jules   April 24th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

Too many Americans are filled with such a deep hatred they will stop at nothing to destroy another human being. These senseless attacks against Palin will continue until these people get psychological help, which isn't going to happen so I guess we have to suffer through life with the stupidity of all those that think when an American has a different point of view they are bad and must pay. Palin is a good person and about one-half of the population of our great nation agrees with most of her views. So why is the other one-half attacking her? Are they afraid of her? Of what she stands for (at least she stands for something)? We need to deal with important issues, not create distractions.

mrs. mavericky   April 24th, 2009 5:21 pm ET

As a staunch PROUD LIBERAL DEMOCRAT I would actually donate money to her 2012 campaign just to bear witness to her crushing defeat. The look on her face as mccain seceded was worth all the aggravation of listening to her shrill racists pathological lying self during the campaign.

Theresa   April 24th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

What I do like is when the palinbots state that the dem's must be scared of Palin.

I would say as a republican – I far from being scared of Palin. I do fear for those who don't read between the lines and say she should be POTUS!!! I would refer all of you back to all the speeches and interviews – especially the ones right after the election! She talked and talked and had no clue what she was speaking about. Too many run-ons for me...

I do hope she is the chosen vessel to run for 2012 – although she will not make it to the primaries because she will have to go against the others in our party – I welcome her back on stage again just for the entrainment of things. What most people do know – she was used but her little brain exploded to believing she has what it takes and now we can't get rid of the idiot? So keep reporting on her – I will continue to blog about her because it's nothing but comical in my personal perspective!

debinaz   April 24th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

what are some of you folks afraid of with this woman? what she is down to earth and just as common as the average american? what her daughter had a baby and did not get married? what the father of the child comes from a family that deals meth for a living? do you put people in to office that seem to think that they are better than you?because these folks in washington do think they are better than you...you must adhere to everything they decide that is best for you...when infact the only ones that benefit are those that are sitting in washington....they dont care what happens to you....our president will not be givlng out tax cuts next year....his agenda is what we will have to live by....some of you that are so entitled will totally agree with this agenda, but for some of us that have worked all our lives will find problem with this agenda....truely i already have 2 children to support and i dont feel that i want to raise someone elses...and as far as levi, i dont really think he cares about seeing or being part of his sons life....look at what he is doing.....that is not the actions of a concerned father.....does he support this child? but then look closely at his father and mother... palin has nothing to do with this.....

Kelby In Houston, TX   April 24th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

GO DEMOCRATS

My2Cents   April 24th, 2009 5:16 pm ET

There is no need for anyone to say anything regarding Governor Sarah Palin, as she is self-destructing herself.

It appears she cannot get along with anyone; she must really be a pitbull/barracuda.

She'll be throwing someone else under the "snowmbile" soon.

Oh, and Governor, will you take stimulus money to move those Eskimos to safety since they are being flooded out and it will cast 130 million dollars to relocate them? I'm just asking.

jules   April 24th, 2009 5:16 pm ET

Some of you will never figure it out. It is called "politics". Yes, once again, it is one party going after the other. Sen. Stevens just had his conviction overturned because of the one-sided prosecutors that were out to get him. The people that are responsible for these outrageous behaviors are those that are so blindsighted by their own shortcomings they can't see past their own noses. They proclaim to be good and honest people, just looking out for the rest of us, but they are scum of the earth. Leave this woman alone. She is not doing anything to hurt you. Or is she? Why are you afraid of her? Is she capable of doing harm to you? She has not done anything illegal that would be any different from the people you support in politics. Grow up and get over yourselves.

How is asking for $150 at no cost to taxpayers?

CC   April 24th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

She needs to pay it back herself. Have a garage sale and sell off those campaign clothes, and any other perks she recieved when on the campaign trail (and there were MANY perks it seemed to me). Thank goodness this woman never made it to the White House. Maybe SNL will hire her for a few spot walk-ons. Oops, forgot they have Tina Fey for that.

2manyhorses   April 24th, 2009 5:14 pm ET

Gag me with a moose, or maybe a polar bear!
How can anyone state, with a straight face, that this woman upholds traditional American values...she got knocked up before she was married, as did her daughter, left the town of Wasilla bankrupt, spewed hatred and intolerance everywhere she campaigned and now wants the beleaguered taxpayer to bail her out of the ethics charges she wrecklessly racked up right and left.
Yes, socialism is a threat to America and it is personified by Sarah Palin...what a hypocrite!

yeahriiight   April 24th, 2009 5:13 pm ET

Maybe if she thinks before she say or act on anything. She will not have this legal problems. Maybe if she tone down her republican rhetorics that everyone is wrong and they were the only one right. Maybe she does not need any legal defense funds.Thank God she and her party did not win. Can anyone imagine the legal mess America will be in if any of this clown from this Circus elephant party win.

David F   April 24th, 2009 5:13 pm ET

The fact that she has to start such a fund to fight "a string of costly ethics complaints, formally unveiled a defense fund Friday to help pay her legal fees — now surging past the half-million dollar mark is very troubling to me. THIS is the woman who was a contender for VP? Makes you wonder what kind of trouble she would have gotten herself into if McCain had won...

Trips to Hawaii for her family on the taxpayer's dime, I'd bet....

LMC   April 24th, 2009 5:13 pm ET

If the prosecution needs any donations, I'm happy to help out!

Vegas Barbie the Paralegal for Obama   April 24th, 2009 5:13 pm ET

She has one thing right in the statement she made quoted in this item: "Enough is enough"...enough of her and her family, that is! An albatross she was to the McCain campaign and a sinking ship she is, in her own right. Attention-getter to the extreme.

Edward Blake   April 24th, 2009 5:11 pm ET

Sarah Palin is the Paris Hilton of politics. Why are we still subjected to seeing her on the news? Her 15 minutes are over.

kaci   April 24th, 2009 5:10 pm ET

That takes the cake. Palin says, I am a criminal, pay my legal fees, so I don't have too! Okay, let's all have a legal fund, will someone pay my fees? What gall from a has been.

Eddie   April 24th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

I wonder how many of these wicked, and nasty, comments are made by PAID, Bloggers for the Dems, and ACORN. It is the only answer I can come up with, to make since of the on going attacks, on this Woman, and her family. You people are AFRAID of her, and how STRONG she is. Cause if this was one of your Liberal, cool-aid drinkin buddies, this would be the greatest thing since sliced bread. I remember BHO saying that families were off limits, for the press, and they honored it, FOR HIM. But Gov. Palin's family has been DOGGED, RELENTLESSLY, why, FEAR, and double standards. Ya know, like the Miss California thing.

sarasotasun   April 24th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Way to go, Governor Palin.

Those who decry you here are nobodies ... you're real. You have achieved. Pay no attention to the parasites who think government is god.

Wisconsin   April 24th, 2009 5:07 pm ET

Fear..I see it and feel it from all you haters! I made my donation to a powerful Governor and it felt good. This wouldn't be happening to her but since the left wing continues to try to go after her with some dumb things like violating on wearing a jacket that supports her husbands team..give me a break. She is gone but will be back in 2012 to put all of you haters in place including Republican haters. Let me guess, you've never been to one of her rallies of 20,000? Didn't think so. Peace out haters..Having a smile to my face is just great!

Jonathan Burton   April 24th, 2009 5:07 pm ET

Sarah "pass the buck to us" Palin is just looking out for number one.
She is drilling holes in her political rotting trash barge, as fast as she can. It will all sink to the bottom in a stinking mess.
She was blasted by John McCain recently, and still does not get it.
She is a complete and total joke, and has no chance of winning anything. Except for Miss Congeniality perhaps.
Anyone who supports this political pariah is doomed to her fate.
Sarah Palin is the proof that secularist politics are a no win option.

Virginia   April 24th, 2009 5:07 pm ET

Governor Palin shouldn't have burned the "McCain" bridge as she did. Maybe Cindy McCain could have loaned her the money to pay her debts.

Kelly   April 24th, 2009 5:07 pm ET

Go Sarah!!! I'm sending money and glad to do it. I actually know the secret of why Andy and JVS has so much hatred in their hearts.

Alaskan Girl   April 24th, 2009 5:06 pm ET

She has a right to form this as other politicians have. But those of you who are dismissing the complaints as frivololous are wrong. Read the actual complaints put forth from Alaskan citizens of ALL parties. They aren't liberal attacks and there are NOT politicians behind the complaints!!!!! Palin does abuse her office and she us unethical. Those of you who keep making excuses for her are blind!!!!! And anyone who actually gives money to her hasn't objectively read the ethics complaints

Bob   April 24th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

CNN, why do you keep publishing stories about this woman? She is a non-issue and you seem to think the election is still ongoing. Its not. Its over and she lost. Please stop printing stories about her.

To those posting nothing but hatred and anger towards this woman, get some therapy and medication. This type of mentality is not healthy.

rockturner   April 24th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

I truly feel sorry for the good people of Alaska.

She has tarnished their long standing good name,
their Wild and Adventureous State, and their Native
integrity.

Alaska deserves better.

MFVJR   April 24th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

Why should people foot her legal bills for she did deliberately or being an ignoramus. She is just an empty loud mouth in politicis. Just wondering how the people of Alaska elected her to be the head of the state?

Sherry for Obama   April 24th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

Sarah is the Queen of attack....She has spewed lies from her mouth.....but she doent like when someone tells a lie about her...
What a double standard

There are not words to describe this excuse for a human being. Poor baby, you are being so picked on. And you blame everyone except yourself.

Mike SL   April 24th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

"Your maximum contribution of $150.00 will allow the Governor, her family, and her colleagues to retire their legal debt at no cost to Alaskans." One of Palin's "friends" actually said this. Does this mean that they are going to raise the money from folks in states other than Alaska because Alaskans are too wise for this nonsense.

cregis   April 24th, 2009 4:20 pm ET

She must have taken lessons from former North Carolina Governor Easley and his wife. Mrs. Easley still has an extremely lucrative state job. I believe they have had to pay for their personal cars though. What a shame! I am no fan of Palin, but this kind of goughing the taxpayer is rampant on both sides of the political aisle.

Brad of IL.   April 24th, 2009 4:20 pm ET

She should get a hold of geo-pet and do like our President . I wonder what she would look like with a a-fro look . May-be she could have her pet with corn rows. Either way Sarah I will donate.

John P   April 24th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Palin has no ethics which is why she is constantly under investigation. Someone suggested setting up a Levi Johnston legal fund, so Levi can get access to his child (currently Sarah and family are blocking him from taking his child out for a day).

Jim   April 24th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Sarah, PLEASE run in 2012!!! There's no better way to guarantee an Obama second term!

rand   April 24th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

She brings the legal challenges on her self yet portrays them as the result of a witch hunt. (appropriately named but untrue). Now she is asking the public to pay for her council? I wonder if I can go something similar to pay for my car payment?

Charm   April 24th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Do contributors at least get a cookie or cupcake with their maximum donation of $150? Hopefully, we won't see her daughters sporking designer handbands after her supporters pay their maxium donation of $150 like we did during the election. O.o

Perusing-Through   April 24th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

Sarah Palin would not need a legal defense fund, if she was not so hypocritical and constantly burning bridges where ever she go.

rockturner   April 24th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Ashley   April 24th, 2009 4:16 pm ET

Mrs. Palin just wants to retired on her book deal that's coming up. She needs to drum up the stupid people who will buy her book and give her the money she needs to pay for her 1/2 million dollar home in Alaska. More free publicity.

Sounds like another Republican screaming to the far right, so you can react as she sees her bank account increases. Sounds like another Ann Coultier...

Nathan Prophet, Raleigh, NC   April 24th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

It's about time this abuser of power and Christian elitist be brought to justice. She flaunts U.S. laws as did Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld adn the rest of the neo-con club. This believer in witches with her "holier than thou" attitude needs to be brought to her senses. She is not above the law of the land.

They won't even miss the money and Rush could probably pay it right out of his wallet. Or amybe Gov Palin should just wait for her 11million book deal to come through and pay it off. Or if she can wait a few more weeks with Levi making the talk show rounds just hit him up for the cash to keep his mouth shut.

Where can we contribute to Todd's legal counsel fund?

Conservatism ... How's that Working Out For Ya?   April 24th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

An arrangement where the resources of many people are collected for the benefit of one person ... especially when that person is unwilling or unable to address their own moral, ethical and financial responsibilities is .... a social handout ... welfare ... directed in this case towards legal obligations.

Therefore Sarah Palin is not now, nor was she ever fit to be the standard bearer for the Republican Party.

LJ   April 24th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

According to FAQ No. 5 listed on the Alaska Fund Trust website:

"Is there any monetary limit on contributions? – Yes, the maximum acceptable contribution set by the terms of the Trust is $150.00. Absent this self-imposed limit, there are no limits on amounts that could be donated to the trust. Amounts in excess of $13,000.00 would be subject to the gift tax."

It would seem that the sky is the limit then regarding contributions to Ms. Palin's (and staff) personal legal debts. This is outrageous.

I will GLADLY open my checkbook for Gov. Palin!!!
You angry dems should direct your anger at Obama for trying to destroy our country!! If he wants to bring down the CIA – why the hell doesn't he just fire all the security surrounding him!! Why does he need around the clock protection??? He thinks he is doing so great at protecting the country – DO AWAY WITH THE SECURITY WE PAY FOR!!!

1) The President is protected by the "Secret Service", not the CIA.
2) Would you want your/our president left unprotected for a moment? I hope not.
3) You are an idiot, get yourself informed.
4) Read something of substance. Don't just "lie"sten to the republican talking points with out thinking.
5) Don't vomit up someone else's stupidity.

That was the most ridiculous statement I have read here in some time. You need an education.

Last but not least, it was the Bush Administration that for 8 years destroyed America. Obama is just cleaning up a mess left by self serving greedy businessmen who thought they could get hold of the world's 2nd largest oil reserves on the cheap.

The problem with those who are against you are the ones who do not count in the long run and also the ones who listen to the trashy CNN News reporters. A costly string of ethics complaints, and this woman wants to run for President? She is truly out of her mind. She has no ethics, therefore she should not hold ANY kind of public office, period.

BTW Sarah, a small town in Alaska is sinking into the ocean, what are you going to do to help these people? Oh I forgot, climate change is made up by the "liberal" media. You need to stay in Alaska and do your job, which is govern your state and stop thinking about a higher office as you are not and never will be qualified for anything more than you currently have. It is amazing that she even got elected as Governor.

What about the money she took for per diem allowance while living at home. This woman has no shame.

There's no anti-free-speach though police conspiracy. People are free to speak their minds, 'tis true. People who disagree are also free to speak their disagreement. That Palin's positions were and are consistently proven either moronic or not properly the province of government does not equate to censure. She's been free to open her mouth and insert her foot from the get-go, which she promptly and frequenlty did...and she continues to be free to do it...like she's doing right now, and will do tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, etc. And we remain free to point it out.

The rest of us hope she runs as well. Mickey Mouse would win against this charity case. The only votes she's going to get are from the racist domestic terrorists. Such as you.

Mr Pibb   April 24th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

Don't worry Sarah, you're still hot.

A little sad   April 24th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

Can we start a Levi Johnston defense fund, so that he can defend his parental rights against Grandma Palin?

Melissa   April 24th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

How funny. Palin is asking for money. Perhaps if she wasn't so crooked, she wouldn't need extra money and for the American people to pay the price of her screw up.

Say no.

Frank, Las Vegas   April 24th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

I guess she still doesn't understand that if you don't break the law, you don't need a defense fund. She's a true idiot and should stay up there in Alaska. Unless of course the fine people of Alaska vote you out of office in 2010, in which case we don't care where you stay as long as it's out of sight.

jsilver2th   April 24th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

If anybody needs a good defense it's Sarah!

But the "Alaska Fund Trust?"

Kind of misleading? A "Trust"?

Can they explain why it is a "trust."

A trust is ".where money or property is owned and managed on behalf of another."

Huh?

It's typical though of Sarah's use of English as she progresses Alaska... HA HA HA-

Keeth in California   April 24th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

Isn't there some undisclosed local that Sarah, the First Dude, Dick Cheney, and his wife and children can go to... and just stay there?!?

Helena   April 24th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

Here it is! Her very own defense fund headed by a high school buddy that was once involved in a fraud. Now she can control the money.

Steve, New York City   April 24th, 2009 1:25 pm ET

Please – why does the media keep smothering us with news about this person? Why is she relevant?

Then again, if the press could also "turn off the spigot" on news stories about Bagelovich, Spitzer and other current/former governers lke them (that clearly fall into the "loser" category), the voting public would be greatly appreciative!

Marissa   April 24th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Mike Mundy

I consider Sarah Palin a hypocritical liar one step over trailer trash. Im not a liberal, I am an ex republican moderate..... and I hope this woman is never elected again. Ask Wasilla how she left them $15 million in debt. All this woman does is spew lies........ and she and her daughter go to church while they slept around

JonDie   April 24th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Is this just to defend Sarah, or are the funds for all the various Palin family members who are in trouble with the law?

Keith   April 24th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

She could sell her campaign wardrobe to raise a few dollars...

Marissa   April 24th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

Ahhhhh Kitty still spewing your small educated diatribe huh? Obama is not destroying the country, hes restoring it after the sorry mess Bush and Cheney made......... So hes exposing torture.... America doesnt torture. Thats what makes us a moral country. I feel safer with Obama frankly and I did with Bush and Cheney.... go give your money to a losing cause.... Sarah Palin shows zero ethics within her own children....... shilling them out like souvenir packages. keep going Kitty , keep dreaming. Tuck in your white sheet , its showing

Pam   April 24th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

I recall that the Clintons had a legal defense fund.

Angie   April 24th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

@ Tom: The legal defense fund will be turned into campaign startup money. This is another lie of Palin! Will it ever stop!
Earth to Palin! You will never get near the WH. Period.

How Ironic – I was thinking the exact same thing. Typical Palin! She always thinks of herself first. Maybe one day, the handlers will come out and tell us the truth we already know—this woman is a nut case!! Details please.

Moderate Democrat   April 24th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

Looks like Sarah fully endorses Socialism. How else do you explain her complete inability to ever take care of things on her own. She uses the tax payers money for EVERYTHING. Clothes, family trips, working from home when she's not actually working, Racist Party Hosting and now her legal issues.

With rhetoric like hers, you have to wonder where the TRUE value in america has gone. Obviously it doesn't exist in her household

Ken   April 24th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

Good. She'll need a well-funded leagl defense fund....to avoid the waterboarding, and then the witch burning, at her trial.

Not right or left - Forward!   April 24th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

When will CNN realize that there are 49 other governors in states that have issues much more relevant to the problems of America? Why is it necessary to have Sarah Palin appear on CNN's website every day? Is she paying for all the publicity you give her, or is someone there just as obsessed with her as the right wingers? She's really not that hot, folks – I'd much rather see a daily photograph of Beyonce Knowles or Halle Berry or just about anyone, if you've got to put up women's pictures and have an article. Their lives are more interesting, and I'm not even counting ex-governors like Illinois and New York.

Claudette   April 24th, 2009 1:14 pm ET

Pay you own legal bills Sarah Palin, sell the clothes....Just so everyone knows she came to my state spreading hate from the bully pulpet. Palin is a hate-monger, who I would not elect dog catcher. Watch you funds Alaska, she is at your register.

Dear TV - Please Read Books   April 24th, 2009 1:12 pm ET

Ugghhh..she's so awful. "Unnecessarily personal political attacks"...hmm. Like the entire basis of her campaign for VP? She did more to incite hate in this country in a few short months than anyone I can remember in my 23 years of life. She used Obama's middle name to work her ignorant and racist crowds into a frenzy. In addition she accused him of "pallin' around with terrorists" and there was no question what the obvious result of these attacks were. She wanted to paint him as a Muslim – an "Arab" as one woman put it. At least, John McCain had the honor to try to correct that woman, though admittedly he said "No, he's a decent family man" (or some version of that) as if an Arab is incapable of being a decent family man. But like I said, he tried. Sarah Palin's entire strategy was to try to make ignorant Americans fear Barack Obama. That's still the Republican strategy – "he's a Socialist!", "he's trying to ruin the future for my child!", "he's selling us out to Latin American dictators" (who were elected actually...), blah blah blah. They're hate mongering is so tiring. Sarah Palin doesn't want the personal attacks to stop...she lacks the brains to defend herself against policy attacks. She loves nothing more than to blame ALL of her problems on someone else. As for the media, you can't expect them not to cover a trainwreck of such proportions.

Ken   April 24th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

And, of course, she will need a new wardrobe for her appearances and Todd will need new silk boxers. When does that collection start?

dmcd   April 24th, 2009 1:00 pm ET

@kevin in Ohio,

Why are you only chastising the left-leaning posts that name call?
I counted more that 20 references to "loony leftists" in this stream. That is just one name that the conservative posters are calling liberals.
If the left makes themselves sound worse than they are by name calling, what happens when conservatives name call.

You make yourself seem more like a right-wing ideologue apologist than you are by only chastising one side when both sides are clearly name calling.

Andy from CA   April 24th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

Call it what you will, "legal defense fund." I call it the old "Slush Fund."

Tom   April 24th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

I am trying to understand where the attributes of "traditional, family values" and "hard working individualist" fit an individual who made $196,531 (public record) as Gov last year, with an additional $66 grand in other income (again public record) and is now asking for handouts from the public to "help her pay her bills". I did not make 262 grand last year did you ?

Fair is Fair   April 24th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

Ghost,

It's really no different than what Bill Clinton did to offset his legal defense, now is it?

Ed   April 24th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

Maybe she can help me pay my last speeding ticket.

AP in Illinois   April 24th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

Bev April 24th, 2009 11:40 am ET – This country could not be more divided. In the last 20 years and in the past 10 especially the liberals have taken partisan politics to a level that is just appalling. It's like the Hatfields and McCoys. Both sides are guilty but 90% of it is liberal.

I could not let this one slide. If you live in a cave and have never heard of or listened to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Anne Coulter, (and that's just the tip of the iceberg) perhaps this might be true . There is NOBODY in public government or the media supporting Democrats and/or liberals that even approach the level of divisiveness and demonization of their opponents that these 3 have been preaching for years.

KC   April 24th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

WOW amazing Palin is looking for everyday people to pay her legal fees...

I guess for those that actually send money to her just proves there is a S u c k e r born every day.

Just think people BUT for the Grace of God she would have been our VP. Now this a scary thought...

Irma in North Carolina   April 24th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

Well I wonder how many people will give her money, this will tell how many people will vote for her. I think she should ask Rus, coulter and Ingram to help her, the three of them could pay off the whole thing for her.

nick   April 24th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

It is difficult to believe, that inspite of all the lies, racist comments, hateful and crude comments that have come out of this women´s mouth, there are still people who want to support and defend her.
It just proves that the Republican party attracts the most extream and ignorant among us.

AUSTIN,TX   April 24th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

Obama victim-sarah will never be potus in this life time or next. so, all the money in the world will not help her accomplish this.

Adam in school   April 24th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Who are the people out there who are willing to protect her from the things she has done? She has done many ethically wrong. She should be willing to foot the bill for any legal charges. I mean she's probably going to just keep doing things that will get her in trouble. For example the fact she charged the state for the time she spent at home. Or the whole trooper gate thing. Who still supports this lady.

Pam   April 24th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Another Republican who wants everyone else to pay for her mistakes and her new wardrobe!

Kathryn   April 24th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

If the governor was honest and ethical, this foolishness wouldn't be necessary. I wouldn't give her a dime. She dug herself into the hole...let her dig herself out.

Haven't we heard enough about Palin? I'd even rather read about the Obama's dog!

Ken in NC   April 24th, 2009 12:41 pm ET

To the never ending saga of Sarah. the sequel will be, The Sarah and Levi Story ( and she is not even married to him).

This woman is trying to run a state and run her family at the same time while wanting to run the US Government as President. It's like she is trying to walk and chew gum at the same time. All I can say is that she does not appear to be doing either one well.

With the wide open space she has between her ears our space program could save billions of dollars by firing the Space Shuttle out into the space of her head. While it is just as much of a void as outer space, it's a lot closer to earth and would be safer as far as a space rescue would be concerned.

Big Ed   April 24th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

Don't do the crime if you can't pay the fine!

magella   April 24th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

I thought one of the basic Republican values was taking care of your own problems and not asking others to bail you out–because that would be SOCIALISM.

Welcome to the world according to the GOP, where words and actions are diametrically opposed.

Billy Smith   April 24th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

everyone should donate $1.00. But do it one penny at a time. That would cost them more money to process the donations than the donations themselves.

Bogus   April 24th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

at least she didn't torture anyone, except the people who watched her try to answer simple questions!!!!

Sorry Pilan   April 24th, 2009 12:34 pm ET

Bev! Your are wrong!!! It is the Republicans that have been so very devisive over the past 20 years. And what has Palin been affective in doing? Losing the presidency for John McCain???

DSH   April 24th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

Are you freakin kidding me???? Anyone who gives this woman a red cent should have their head examined!!! Palin is just like the rest of the GOP...not a shred of decency or sliver of intelligence and absolutely no accountability!

And what's up with Cheney getting all mouthy? He's another. More of same.

The GOP used to be respected. This bunch in there now is nothing better than thugs.

Chamorrita, MD   April 24th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

Americans donating to this fund are beyond STUPID.

STUPID DOES what STUPID IS.

Gov. Palin is a MILLIONAiRE, she just signed a 7-figure book deal. WHY are you fools donating your HARD EARNED money to this woman who couldn't care less about you or your life?

Americans need to WAKE UP. Gov. Palin is laughing all the way to the bank on your dime!!

Dennis   April 24th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Steve in CT   April 24th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

The vast majority of suits are connected to Alaskan politicians trying to distroy the governer because she's been going after corruption in the Alaskan government. They're trying to distroy her before she exposes them and people are attacking her why? It's not a soap script unless you make it one people. And what ever happened to liberalists standing for letting people do, say and feel as they want? Libereralists now say "Only if the person thinks just like me or I'll distroy him/her". The true America is a thing of the past and it's YOUR doing people. Grow up or kill America.

obama/mama   April 24th, 2009 12:26 pm ET

Charlotte   April 24th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Why is this being reported as if it were news? Nobody cares. Who would give money to that woman for ANYTHING? If she is in ethics trouble she is ethically obligated to spend her own money to try and weasel out of it. Please stop talking about this ninny.

Andi   April 24th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

Where's her 'personal responsibility'? New sign for Teabagers: 'Your legal bills are not my problem'.

Gee, Sarah, isn't it kinda demoralizing to have to ask for a 'handout'? Or is this somehow 'different'? I see – foodstamps given to a poor family is a handout, $150 to a wealthy governor's legal campaign isn't?

Michael in Pittsburgh   April 24th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

Couldn't Mrs. Palin simple sell that $150,000 campaing wardrobe that she was given. Oh wait, I forgot, she donated that to charity. Right?

Moderate Democrat   April 24th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

She needs to be charged with kidnapping as well. She's holding hostage a mans baby. The man wants to see his daughter but Sarah Palin won't allow him time alone with the baby.

Sarah Palin is the most vile being in existance today. Well, besides Cheney and Rove, ok, it's a three way tie.

EDDIE   April 24th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

WOW, a repub with a LEGAL DEFENCE FUND.Go figure

PAUL   April 24th, 2009 12:21 pm ET

Unbelievable. Nominating her for Vice President at the Republican Nomination was like opening up a Pandora's box and unleashing Godzilla on the country. Let her pay her own legal fees. By the way I would humbly suggest that she sell her home which i assume is worth well over $1000000. and take the proceeds to pay for her own problems. She blames everyone else for her problems. After she sells her home whe can easily afford a trailer and live there with her brood or maybe go back to Idaho wiyh her Mommy and Daddy. She is a diservice to Alaska and it's people.

DK Murphy   April 24th, 2009 12:20 pm ET

Lady in the know – It's not Sarah per se that we are afraid of. We're afraid that there might be enough people such as yourself who would vote a dangerous half wit into the most powerful office in the world. THAT is truly frightening.

If Sarah Palin would not do anything unethical she would not need a fund to defend herself.

Let her pay for her own defense and maybe she will quit being unethical.

Any leader in my book should be doubly sure to do the right thing and not get herself or himself into situations that are questionable.

Ellie, MD   April 24th, 2009 11:43 am ET

Gov. Palin better start putting up some of that BOOK-DEAL money because she's going to need it when the Levi family takes her to court over rights he clearly has under Alaska law. I bet Gov. Palin forgot about the LAWS governing her own state that clearly states Levi Johnson has EQUAL RIGHTS to his son as Bristol does.

Funny that huh?

Steve in Las Vegas,NV   April 24th, 2009 11:43 am ET

Mooseburger may have to resort to holding a cardboard sign on a street corner begging for donations. If she had done her job and not been so corrupt, this wouldn't have happened.

Maybe she could get a second mortgage on her house to pay for her legal fees, and no, don't ask the taxpayers for help...ever!

How about a yard sale, or write a cookbook on how to prepare moose chili, or mooseburgers?

We love you Sarah!   April 24th, 2009 11:43 am ET

Although I'm a democrat, I feel our party needs to drown ourselves with holy water. I will support you and hope things work out with you and your family. As an African-American woman, I am only carrying on the mission of my hero MLK. Where do I send my check?

jm   April 24th, 2009 11:42 am ET

She wouldn't need a legal defense fund if there weren't baseless lawsuits filed against her. Hillary charged the white house for her campaign travel expenses when she was first lady campaigning for her senate seat. Where were the ethics investigations then?

Mr. C   April 24th, 2009 11:41 am ET

It's like the Hatfields and McCoys. Both sides are guilty but 90% of it is liberal. I have every confidence that if a Republican president was faced with a situation where he/she had to do something for the better of the country but to the detriment of his/her party, he would choose what was right for the country. I do not have that confidence in Democrats. In fact...I think Nancy Pelosi would sell her own mother if it were for the good of the Democratic party. The Democrats hate Palin because she's good and she's effective. They can't bring her down using her record against her so they have to be under-handed and scheming trying to sue her out of contention. Well it's not going to work. Conservative women will make sure of that.

Do you hear that taxpayers?
Because a bunch of liberal, leftists, idiots want to continue to harrass Palin instead of allowing her to Govern her state,
you the taxpayer must suffer.
The way they carry on, you'd think we were talking about Chicago instead of Alaska.

These outrageous, trivial, supposed "ethics" complaints are now costing you the Alaskan taxpayers.
Take some time and research how phony these "ethics" charges are before you judge Sarah Palin.

I'd like to know why every time an issue about Palin comes up, all the left wing nut jobs respond without knowing what they're talking about. If you don't care about Palin , or have no accurate information, why do you respond?

Do any of you have jobs or do you all work for the DNC?

Farrell, Houston, Tx   April 24th, 2009 11:34 am ET

Palin is a train wreck and is responsible for all her legal problems due to her own ignorance. Next she will ask for legal fees to fight Levi against his own son, which is totally wrong. Palin's value system is lacking in so many ways and she needs to take time to put her own house in order instead of trying to run government affairs. I would be totally embarrassed for the world to see what a mess my family is and talk about family values. She needs to sweep at her own house.

Jane   April 24th, 2009 11:33 am ET

the fact that she and her peers must go to the public to cover legal expenses for their wrongdoings, Shouts to the public that she does not have the kinda of support from big dollars to cover these expenses in the "boys club" way. it says that not only are her opponents, who of course receive the blame for all her integrity problems, don't like her but neither do those who would likely be on her side. her opponents are wise as it is the case she blames everyone for her integrity problems, she will have no problem blaming them when the time is convenient for her. She is not to be trusted.

So she needs alot of money to defend herself. Sounds like the Ex-Governor from Illinois. Crooked people need defense funds. Pure and simple. They should be calling it the Palin Ponzi scheme fund.

Mississippi Mike   April 24th, 2009 11:29 am ET

It's sad that well-funded law firms can send a lawmaker like Palin, who came from a blue collar background into deep debt, over frivolous lawsuits. The attacks on her have been to drive her into debt and distract her from her important duties as governor. It's a shame that we've devolved to this as a nation.

Krejaton   April 24th, 2009 11:28 am ET

How quickly the left wing imbecils forget Billary and White Water. When a Democrat does it, it is shrewd. When a Republican does it, it is sleezy.

Hypocrite much?

Fair is Fair   April 24th, 2009 11:28 am ET

I've never seen so much hate directed towards 1 woman. Are you people afraid of her or something?

Rob   April 24th, 2009 11:28 am ET

So can someon explain to me what the difference is between Palin doing this and Clinton doing this. She did the same exact thing, you people are such hypocrites.

George Broze   April 24th, 2009 11:27 am ET

I desperately want her to run in 2012 because I love Tina Fey so much!

Liberal and Proud of It dot com   April 24th, 2009 11:25 am ET

I say, "Go, Sarah, Go!"

If anyone can lead Conservatism to a well-deserved extinction, it is Sarah Palin. We need to encourage her candidacy for the 2012 presidential nomination. This is the woman we have been looking for all these years. And all you Conservatives need to get out your checkbooks and make a big contribution to her defense fund and her PAC. America needs her.

Barbara Independent in NY   April 24th, 2009 11:24 am ET

Strange. Why would a holier than thou right right wing nut have ethics complaints against her? Where can I donate to make her GO AWAY?

Angela Tacoma   April 24th, 2009 11:24 am ET

Hopefully all of Palin's legal problems will grow and fill her tiny world so much that she will never have time to make a public comment again...

fudge   April 24th, 2009 11:23 am ET

CNN...keep the torture coming, please stop it, she's annoying us! Pleae!

Jennie   April 24th, 2009 11:23 am ET

Legal defense fund? Seems she'll need it – the woman has problems with ethics and integrity.

Now go away.

Frank in Wilton Manors   April 24th, 2009 11:22 am ET

a fool and his money are soon parted.

chuck   April 24th, 2009 11:20 am ET

Talk about a Governor begging for cash on line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What's next for Sarah Palin?????? How LOW can anyone stoop?????? DEBTS will make you do the IMPOSSIBLE. Beg,Beg,Beg.

Shadysider   April 24th, 2009 11:20 am ET

Pay for my defense – otherwise we're charging tax payers. How about you use your stipend from living at home?

Bill Sampson   April 24th, 2009 11:19 am ET

Fools can give their money however they see fit, as long as it is not tax deductible! Maybe they can use some of that money to pay Levi to go away and stop spilling the sordid family (values?) secrets.

Lisa in FL   April 24th, 2009 11:18 am ET

Do the prosecutors in any of these "ethic" cases have a website? I would be more than happy to donate to that cause....frequently.

John-Sturgis, S. Dakota   April 24th, 2009 11:17 am ET

Palin is nothing but a filthy opportunist who uses the ignorant population to her advantage.

Ursula   April 24th, 2009 11:16 am ET

LOL – Can I giver her a wooden nickel? Or maybe some 3 dollar bills...

David   April 24th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Way tah go, Sarah! There's nuthin' like showin' yer level of acountability than by hirin' a buncha lawyers ta handle yer prahblems. Why don'tcha get yer own house in order, before ya start blamin' everyone else?

Are ya by any cheeyance raisin' money fer when Todd has an "accident" involvin' Levi? Betcha know the answer, don'tcha?

Steve in Las Vegas,NV   April 24th, 2009 11:13 am ET

Mooseburger & Dark Overlord Cheney can't seem to understand they are nothing more than a bad joke! This dynamic duo need the generous application of duct tape to shut them up.

Both are an embarrassment and are hurting the GOP by showing the divisiveness and shallowness they possess.

She must be desparate to get funds for her legal defense as she is so corrupt.

Erin   April 24th, 2009 11:13 am ET

Sarah Palin, you created your own mess, now stop begging for others to help bail you out!

Jerry   April 24th, 2009 11:12 am ET

Go back on Saturday Night Live and make a real good case for yourself. You were a joke, and you were laughed at around the country. So now you are asking for a BAILOUT from the American tax payers? Throw in a few extra bucks folks, for legal fees to keep Levi away. She managed to hide the mean-spirited persona that drives her for awhile. One big happy family. When losing was becoming a reality, she went on the attack. Reminds you of John Mccain doesn't it.

joseph   April 24th, 2009 11:11 am ET

She is smart. She knows she is not going to get anywhere in the bigger political arena so she is trying to make as much money now while she still can. There are still suckers out there, you know.

bruce morningstar   April 24th, 2009 11:11 am ET

Why does she need public money to defend her own actions. There is no valid reason for providing her with money for her defense. That is the same as establishing a defense fund for OJ Simpson or Charles Manson. They deserve it and need it more than Palin does. She makes plenty of money. She should just hire a lawyer and pay out of her own checkbook, like the rest of us would have to do if we were sued or charged, whether the charges were real or not. How about joining the rest of America, if she really is a hockey mom and not an elitist!

Larry   April 24th, 2009 11:09 am ET

Sarah

Just tell me wher to send the money so in 2012 you are ready to slam BHO back to the corrupt Chicago political sham he came from.

Roger   April 24th, 2009 11:09 am ET

I can not believe that any human being with one drop of a brain would fall for such a hoax.....I do not mean to sound rude but any one giving to this fund is ignorant.....

Razor Willy   April 24th, 2009 11:04 am ET

Any one that gives you dollars, should have spent the money on their own mental health issues...

Joe in Austin   April 24th, 2009 11:04 am ET

Vice-President of the United States

Neel T   April 24th, 2009 11:03 am ET

You must go away, Sarah Palin... Stop what you are doing. It won't end up well for you, and definitely not for us, if you are successful. I suggest you count your graces that you even got elected as a governor of a state of our great country. Return to the Aleutian Islands and patrol the Alaskan seas to defend us from Siberian Terrorists threats..

Caleb   April 24th, 2009 11:03 am ET

How can we contribute to her opponents, so they can keep up their "overtly partisan and unnecessarily personal political attacks?"

Sher   April 24th, 2009 11:02 am ET

WOW when will this end? Now she has to set up a fund to cover legal expenses? I feel sorry for Alaskans she is all about herself and does nothing for her state or the United States. She's the perfect Republican, changes laws and views to cover her actions, great justifications. Thank god people see her for who she is.... a selfish, self-centered nobody.

FAYE, NV   April 24th, 2009 11:00 am ET

Sara not the smartest in the bunch, preaching one thing and living another. She is more of a taker and thief plus she incite hatred.

I personally think she should be impeached and charged for the crime of charging the tax payers money to live in her own house. When is the justice.

Kevin in Ohio   April 24th, 2009 10:59 am ET

Where do I send my check? Its truly a shame that this woman is being subjected to the typical character assassination the left-wing is so accustomed to. If someone has opposing views, i.e. normal everyday traditional values, the full force of George Soros and the left will be brought to bear to stifle free speech and thought.

Big John   April 24th, 2009 10:59 am ET

Sarah every time you open your mouth you stick your foot in it so if you keep your mouth shut you wouldn't need defending. You had your 15 minutes. Go back to Wasilla and let someone qualified take over. You're a disgrace to our state.

Biased   April 24th, 2009 10:58 am ET

Here we go with another attack Palin comment list that will top everything posted here all week. 16 written already and all negative of course. No matter what this Governor does the dems will come out to attack full force. Why don't you people get a life and leave her's alone unless you are a resident of Alaska.

Sniffit   April 24th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Soooooo, the GOPers who complain about spending and how errant taxation is ruining our way of life see fit to ask Americans to waste their money donating to their personal legal defense funds? $150 to Sarah Palin's legal defense fund OR $150 to rebuild roads and bridges, reform health care, etc.? Hmmmm...is it just me? Am I the only one who senses just a wee bit of hypocrisy here?

Darla (Edmonton, Canada)   April 24th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Uhhhh, Governor Palin ... you wouldn't need a legal defense fund, if you actually walked your talk! People who live, work and speak ethically, honestly and without personal malice towards others ... usually, don't end up needing a ship load of lawyers and legal fees that have to be retired.

Chris Adamson   April 24th, 2009 10:56 am ET

I can't believe people were supporting her in the 2008 election campaign. I hope she goes flat broke with all of the attorney's fees.

lawyermommy   April 24th, 2009 10:56 am ET

She is doing what she has to do.

Say what you will about this spirited semi literate governor, a shrinking violet she is not!

Good for you Sarah, raise that money. Shake that fist, shoot that moose. Use what your mama gave ya. :)

Lynda/Minnesota   April 24th, 2009 10:55 am ET

Thanks, but no thanks, Sarah. I never contribute to unworthy causes.

jm   April 24th, 2009 10:55 am ET

stop crying people. Clinton did the same thing with his legal defense fund.

Jeff in Virginia   April 24th, 2009 10:54 am ET

Thank you to the gracious Americans who are helping keep Sarah Palin on the national stage.

We couldn't do it without you.

lived9lives   April 24th, 2009 10:54 am ET

Sarah -"... end the siege on our government by political tricksters. " The most recent ethics complaint was filed by an everyday housewife with NO political affiliations. She simply requested that her governor be present in the State of Alaska during the final 4 days of the congressional session. You know to finish things like the State's budget....Yes, I'm sure this complaint rises to the level of a "siege" and "political trickster". And of course Americans in the lower 48 are supposed to fund Palin's attempts to silence her constituents.
Personally I can't decide which VICTIM I should send my money to – Palin or Octumom.

lady in the know   April 24th, 2009 10:53 am ET

Me thinks that these comments duth protest too much. What is all your problems with Palin? Are you all afraid of her? It seems to me that you are afraid she will give the annointed one a run for YOUR money in the next election so you need to insult her all you can now.
She is not a sinking ship and she is not going to go away. It is quite obvious that SOMEONE is scared that she is going to gain steam and be a real threat in the next election so they need to try and neutralize her now. And all you people are falling for it. She was bashed and battered during the last election as the press wanted Obama at all costs and all you that voted for him were the media's sheep. You followed their lead and elected him, no questions asked. Now, she is minding her own business, or trying to, and the press still wants to bash and badger her. And you all are still following blindly along. Leave her alone and mind your OWN business.

Notnek   April 24th, 2009 10:53 am ET

Tricksters- Sarah- Please: The rhetoric that falls out of your mouth and the acting lessons really don't cut it any more. You , your family, and your administration are a mockery of legality and morality.

TM in CO   April 24th, 2009 10:53 am ET

Oh yeah. Find me my checkbook. I'll donate every dime I have to her defense fund. YEA RIGHT!! I would however contribute to anyone who is willing to keep this woman out of the national spotlight!!!

katiec   April 24th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Political tricksters? Reform?
What hypocrasy. Palin conducted one of the dirtiest campaigns in the history of our country, inciting hate, anger, unrest and the division of our country in her speeches.
Read where Alaska leads the list in earmarks. Also, the funds Palin is wanting to refuse includes millions of dollars for the special needs children. Whose budget she slashed prior to the birth of her baby.
If she is so wonderful why is she having to spend over a half million dollars for her defense?

Elliott   April 24th, 2009 10:51 am ET

Thanks but no thanks. Sarah, you have enough money to pay for this yourself. And don't tell me about this costing Alaska's taxpayers money either. You didn't care about that when you were charging them to work out of your house, now were you?

Jeff W.   April 24th, 2009 10:49 am ET

You can tell how intelligent someone is by looking at their eyes. Have you ever noticed how dumb this woman looks? She just seems vapid. I am so embarrassed for America that this woman is in the public eye and I'm ashamed that there are people who actually continue to support this obviously self-involved politician.

Dieter Zerressen, Denver, CO   April 24th, 2009 10:49 am ET

I see the trend: whenever a Republican gets caught with his or her hands in the cookie jar it's "political tricksters" who are trying to bring down the government. It's never those the fault of those folks, their greed, their corruption, their air of entitlement to power and privelege.

Enlightened Voter   April 24th, 2009 10:48 am ET

It's called KARMA sarah, you know like when you lied and spread false information about our President? Well it's come back to haunt you!

Craig   April 24th, 2009 10:48 am ET

I have commited ethics violations so give me money to pay for it so I can keep commiting them with no cost to my state and the people that were dumb enough to elect me.

JPC   April 24th, 2009 10:47 am ET

She's asking for people to help her defend her own unethical actions! Unbelievable! All of those lawsuits are NOT illegitimate! Sarah was engaging in some shady stuff. Look....she's going to be a millionaire once she signs her book deal.

Greg in Colorado   April 24th, 2009 10:47 am ET

Sarah,
wow you truely are a maverick. you would have been the first VP to ever be indicted and under investigation even before you entered office. YOU really need to pat yourself on the back.

Obama aka Barry   April 24th, 2009 10:47 am ET

Sorry, I can't contribute to Palins campaign. She might think I'm a socialist and won't accept my money. And I voted for OBAMA!!!

Candy West Virginia   April 24th, 2009 10:46 am ET

I truly needed a good laugh, thanks CNN! Seriously I know there is not one demented person who would even think about donating to this clueless pathological liar!

John   April 24th, 2009 10:46 am ET

Palin legal defense fund? Why? Sounds kinda socialistic.

Aren't Republicans supposed to be all about individual responsibility and taking care of oneself? Isn't asking for a donation a sign of weakness?

Thy Will Be Done   April 24th, 2009 10:46 am ET

Christians -

This post read .... "Together, we can help Governor Palin and future elected officials turn back the tide of overtly partisan and unnecessarily personal political attacks."

In her initial introduction to the nation at the Republican National Convention, Ms. Palin ...initiated a wave of overtly partisan and unnecessarily personal political attacks. She is reaping what she sowed. Seems she must not have a shown up for Bible Study on the night they taught that.

Vengence is mine sayeth the Lord. Is it possible that Sarah's troubles are God looking away from her?

Christopher   April 24th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Makes a lot of sense for someone to donate to a defense fund for a Governor that claims to be a christian but wont allow the father of her grandchild leave her home with his child. You have gotta be kidding me!!! Strangely the Plains don't even have a legit reason for that kind of behavior.

BL2009   April 24th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Unnecessary Personal Political Attacks. Is she going to give some of that money to Obama for the way she treated him during the 2008 campaign?

Bassman   April 24th, 2009 10:44 am ET

What Gov. Palin is enduring is a Nixon style dirty tricks campaign. Gov. Palin was the peoples candidate. Unpretentious in manner, and a fighter to the end. What other Governor is hit by ethics complaints for wearing a Artic Cat snow outfit, or giving a speech as she did in Indiana. These attacks will backfire.

Joanna   April 24th, 2009 10:44 am ET

Oh my goodness, now she needs a legal fund for all her indiscretions? and she blames it( like always) on someone else? Does she think the rest of the the USA is a stupid as her? She really is entertaining, but that is about it.

George- Chicago   April 24th, 2009 10:44 am ET

I'd give $1000 if she would promise to shut up and stay up in Alaska the way that she did before McCain went and got her.

Sumar   April 24th, 2009 10:43 am ET

Sarah could have a garage sale and sell some of the goodies she got while running for VP and she could have a bake sale........ I'm sure someone out there loves the wildlife she cooks up......... but someone better watch where this money goes, she maybe looking for funds that she is going to need if the father of her grandson takes her to court......she is good at obstruction, remember her x brother in law and troopgate,,,,,,,now she is obstructing the father from seeing his own son..........when does she have time to Govern Alaska......

Happy with the President   April 24th, 2009 10:43 am ET

Here are few ideas how to get the money, Sarah: garage sale, lemonade stand and moose burger sale. This will be enough, don't you think?

Tom in Alaska   April 24th, 2009 10:42 am ET

Well if she did her job right she wouldn't have so many ethics complaints. More and more people in alaska are getting real tired of her not doing her job up here. The person who needs a defence fund is Levi Johnson with his fight with the Palins over his son.

bkrbabe   April 24th, 2009 10:41 am ET

she wants us to pay for her mistakes? wow, why didn't i think of that...

will she pay my bills when she becomes solvent?

James   April 24th, 2009 10:41 am ET

Everyone should give $.01 or whatever minimum it will take on a credit card donation. Then the fees associated with the credit card transaction will eat the donation and then some up if people do so in mass volume.

Obama Victim   April 24th, 2009 10:41 am ET

sending my check today..........Sarah in 2013............it is imperative we dump this loser we have now

Valarie Isacc   April 24th, 2009 10:40 am ET

I am so scared of Sarah Palin. She is simply not a good person!

Michael M, Phoenix AZ   April 24th, 2009 10:40 am ET

What the heck does she mean "at no cost to the tax payers of Alaska?" Where does she think the money will come from? The end of the rainbow? Someone will still have to "cough up" a donation instead of tax dollars. I suppose then that Palin will allow a "tax deduction" for Alaska donors.

Ohio Man   April 24th, 2009 10:39 am ET

This is what happenes when you come out the house barking all loud and saying nothing like she was really gonna bite some 1 and got smacked with a wet newspaper.. her biggest political mistake was saying YES to McCain, now she has been exposed and all the bones are falling out of the closet as well as the 3rd grade grammer coming out of her mouth.. WELCOME TO AMERICA (the lower states) palin..

ANGIE IN PA   April 24th, 2009 10:38 am ET

Now she wants Tax Payers to Fund her Legal Fees are you KIDDING ME UNBELIVABLE I thank God everyday President Obama won!

JPC   April 24th, 2009 10:37 am ET

No way! People should not be fooled. Sarah has money. I'd rather donate to feed the hungry or homeless. It absolutely irks me when people who have money seek donations from others........this goes for the Clintons as well. Stop begging!

icculus   April 24th, 2009 10:36 am ET

So, she's asking for donations to help pay her legal fees?? This just keeps getting better and better.

SHIRLEY "60"   April 24th, 2009 10:36 am ET

The people who contribute money to this woman will never be able to really help her because with many of her actions past, present, and probably future, she sets herself up for more and more legal problems. As long as Palin remains as overly ambitious as she is, and makes no real effort to mentally improve herself, she will fail her real goal of president. She should realize that her efforts to just be seen and heard are doing her more harm than good, and that if we are forced to keep hearing about her byway of the news media, the more fatigued this country will be of her in 4 years. She obviously does get that sometimes less, is best.

The Watcher   April 24th, 2009 10:36 am ET

More smoke and mirrors to make it seem that the guy actually has opposition. We know the deal!

obama/mama   April 24th, 2009 10:35 am ET

What goes around comes around. She was a real jerk during the election and now she is looking for help.

Charlotte, NC   April 24th, 2009 10:34 am ET

Why would anybody give money to this empty-brained lady? If she has ethical problems to defend, she should pay for that herself–or just straighten up and leave the American public alone. Pay more attention to her 5 children, and let Bristol get a job to buy diapers and baby formula like other people do. Oh, I forgot, Bristol is busy focusing on her education and advocating for abstinence!! Go away Sarah Palin and family.

proud army navy mom   April 24th, 2009 10:34 am ET

i will give her a dollar if she will go somewhere and sit down.

Had It   April 24th, 2009 10:33 am ET

Uh – NO.

Stop doing bad things. Then legal fees stop too.

Mike Mundy, Houston, TX   April 24th, 2009 10:33 am ET

I'll contribute. Everytime I hear the loony lefties bash and disgrace this woman, makes me want to fight even more! God bless Sarah Palin! I would wager, that those who chastize her, are the same ones who would trample others to flee a sinking ship!

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   April 24th, 2009 10:33 am ET

If I were an Alaskan, she wouldn't get a red cent from me.

Mike O'Brien   April 24th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Sarah dug a hole.., well let her dig her way out.., however, 'not' with my money.. Mike in Montana

Nurse Ratchet   April 24th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Palin is incoherent as ever. We call that reality-challenged in these parts. Just what does her web site comment have to do with what's really going on? People who find her language convincing really out to think things through and reassess.

dennisk   April 24th, 2009 10:32 am ET

I would happily donate $150 to a fund that would permanently remove Sarah Palin from America's collective memory.

carol   April 24th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Hello?????These people are not political tricksters. Palin is. She has created all these problems, denies them. and anything that we've all heard her say, and now anyone who criticizes her unprofessional behavior is a trickster??? Anyone who gives money to this fund needs to take a reality check! Her shenanigans are right there for all to see.

indydude   April 24th, 2009 10:32 am ET

If anyone's thinking about making a contribution of one cent, thinking that it'll probably cost them more than that to process the transaction, I'd say that's probably a pretty interesting idea.

CO   April 24th, 2009 10:31 am ET

The Republicans presented Palin as a champion of government reform and ethics. Meanwhile, her own house was not in order. Glad the hypocrisy was revealed in time.

Bret   April 24th, 2009 10:31 am ET

"political tricksters". Palin should know all about those. The people responsible for choosing her as a VP candidate wrote the book.

Adrian R.   April 24th, 2009 10:27 am ET

Nice rhetoric. "The siege on our government by political tricksters". More like the siege on the irresponsible media darling/soapbox rant-and-raver, who should be managing her state instead of pretending to be "Ann Coulter: the Sequel". A siege perpetrated by folks who may or may not have a partisan political agenda, but definitely don't lack justifiable reasons to criticize Palin, all of which result from her own behavior.

If she wants to avoid criticism, she should clam up and go back to Alaska, and just do her job. And perhaps cut back on her hobby of touring the fundamentalist circuit and whipping narrowminded folks into a frenzy.

Eric   April 24th, 2009 10:27 am ET

This must be some sort of joke. I am sure it's the fault of everyone else that she has to legally and ethically defend herself so much. Just like it's the media's fault that she looked less than smart.

Oma   April 24th, 2009 10:24 am ET

It boggles the mind, the same Ms. Palin who had Pres. Obama palling around with terrorists, among other insinuating and yes, at the time hate-provoking remarks, is now speaking of political tricksters?

Teresa   April 24th, 2009 10:24 am ET

Please CNN, make Sarah Palin go away. She is just a delusional underqualified politician that should never have been brought in to the public eye.

sharon   April 24th, 2009 10:23 am ET

I'll donate to any fund that takes her out of the public view. I'm sick, sick, sick of her and her Jerry Springer coverage.

Joyce Becker   April 24th, 2009 10:22 am ET

Foolish Alaskans to want to pay for Madame Palin's legal defense, she got herself into one mess after another she should pay for them herself. Not one dime of tax paying struggling Americans should contribute to any legal fund she sets up, the best thing would be to boot her out of office, she is one sham of a governor.

chris   April 24th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Please just go away Sarah and take Cheney with you.

George   April 24th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Sarah, have a bake sale too.

John   April 24th, 2009 10:20 am ET

So when she refers to unnecessarily personal political attacks, does that mean accusing your opponent of 'palling around with terrorists' and saying enough about her opponent that her crowds start chanting for violence and hate? Please Sarah, explain how your world is squeeky clean and everyone else is dirty? Please explain how it's perfectily fine for you to do 'X Y and Z' yet for anyone else to do so, then it's tricksters, liars and such.

Sarah, I won't give you a dime for your legal defence...but I will give you money to go back to school and get an education.

itbeme   April 24th, 2009 10:19 am ET

"For Alaskans, the time has come to end the siege on our government by political tricksters. "

Does that mean the half baked alaskan is giving up the Gov's job????

Wonder how much of the money will go towards the fight to keep Levi away from his baby.

GOPer   April 24th, 2009 10:18 am ET

Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas. Now you want taxpayers to fund your lawsuits? Is this woman for real?

Paul   April 24th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Is there a theme running here... I think the moto of the Palin group sould be " stupid is as stupid does" why to these people take up out time...

PULEEEZZZ!! lets tell some truth   April 24th, 2009 10:17 am ET
